Chapter 8
The next morning Vegeta woke up alone, and the cold sheets told him he’d been alone for awhile now.
With a growl of annoyance, the prince climbed out of bed and quickly dressed in his usual training armor, then he threw open the bedroom door and followed Goku’s ki, which led him outside to the garden the younger man had made with the plants ChiChi had sent him.
Vegeta stopped a few feet away from the other man and studied his appearance. For once he wasn’t wearing his orange gi. Instead, he wore baggy gi style black pants and a white muscle shirt. Apparently he wasn’t planning on sparring today.
The prince snorted in annoyance, which caught Goku’s attention. The younger Saiyajin stopped what he was doing and looked up at Vegeta from where he was kneeling on the ground.
“Kakarotto, what are you doing out here?”
Goku blinked and held up his filthy hands. “Digging in the dirt.” he said simply.
Vegeta rolled his eyes. “I see that, baka. WHY are you digging in the dirt?”
The younger man shrugged. “I was bored and couldn’t sleep, so I figured I'd finish up out here.”
The prince eyed him for a moment. Obviously Goku wasn’t going to tell him what was really bothering him; but he was sure it had something to do with the night before.
"I assume you won’t be sparring today?”
Goku shook his head as he stood and brushed the dirt from his pants. “Nah. I just want to relax today.”
Vegeta couldn’t help but smirk. “Oh, really? I think I can help with that.” he said as he moved forward and wrapped his arms around the younger man and stroked his tail gently.
Much to his annoyance, Goku only squirmed uncomfortably and gently moved out of the prince’s grasp. His hand moved to the back of his head as he chuckled nervously and walked past Vegeta. “I was actually planning on hanging out by the pool today.”
“Hn.” The prince frowned and folded his arms over his chest as the other Saiyajin hurried away. Obviously no one had ever shown Kakarotto any real affection or had even tried to 'woo' him before. That meant even simple touching would be strange and uncomfortable for the younger man.. No matter. He could be patient when he needed to be.
-------------------------------------------------------
Goku sighed in content as he hoisted himself out of the pool and rolled directly onto his waiting towel. This quiet day spent swimming was exactly what he needed. Goku folded his arms and then rested his head upon them, closing his eyes as the sun heated the cool skin on his back. Most would have thought he was asleep, except his tail was lazily flopping from one side of his body to the other.
He hadn’t been laying there for more than five minutes when the sun disappeared. Goku frowned in annoyance and poked one eye open to find the source of the problem.
“Vegeta?”
Sure enough, Vegeta was straddling his back and smirking down at him, blocking out the sun. “Mind if I join you?”
“Uh… no… I don’t mind…”
Goku was forced to close his eyes again when the older man moved way, allowing the sun to shine down on him again. However, the peace didn’t last long before the Saiyajin suddenly found himself in the pool again.
“Vegeta!” Goku shouted as he surfaced and glared up at the laughing prince.
“I guess I should have warned you, Kakarotto. I play rough.”
The younger Saiyajin didn’t even have a chance to respond before Vegeta did a cannon ball into the pool, causing another huge wave of water to wash over his head. When the water settled again, Goku looked less than amused as Vegeta floated by on his back, squirting a small fountain of water from his mouth.
“Relaxing, neh?”
Goku frowned. “Yeah, real relaxing.” The younger Saiyajin's eyes followed the older man for a moment before a devilish grin spread over his face. Vegeta barely had time to see the sudden change in expression before Goku pounced at him and shoved him beneath the water. The prince didn’t even have a chance to retaliate before the other man shot off through the water.
It was war.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Several hours later and gallons of inhaled water later, the two worn out Saiyajins pathetically dragged themselves to the shallow end of the pool and sat on the stairs they found there, each gasping for air.
Vegeta stuck his finger in his ear and tilted his head in an attempt to get the water in his head to drain out. “I need to relax now.”
Goku shook his head to rid his hair of the water weighing it down, effectively, not to mention purposely, spraying Vegeta in the process. “I thought we were relaxing.”
The prince grunted as he stretched, popping his spine before he leaned back against the pool’s edge. “I don’t think you know HOW to relax, Kakarotto.”
“Sure I do!” Goku protested. He paused for a moment. “How do you go about relaxing?”
An almost evil smirk appeared on Vegeta’s lips as he leaned toward the younger Saiyajin and ran his finger up Goku’s submerged thigh.
“I’d have to SHOW you.”
Goku laughed nervously and quickly jumped out of the pool. “Heh, I don’t know about you, but I’m starving!”
The younger man quickly grabbed a towel and high-tailed it to the house, leaving a very annoyed Vegeta behind.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Gone again.
Vegeta mumbled angrily to himself as he stepped out of the gravity chamber. Kakarotto was gone again, just like he’d been everyday for the past month. He had no idea what the baka did all day, but it certainly didn’t involve him. The younger man would leave early in the morning and then return late at night.
Goku was avoiding him.
Vegeta was still mumbling under his breath as he entered Capsule Corp and threw open the fridge door.
He knew his advances had been a bit strong--- ok, really strong--- but he wasn’t a subtle person; never was, probably never would be, but he thought his fellow Saiyajin would have known him well enough to realize it wasn’t just his body he was after.
Vegeta paused just before taking a drink from a bottle of water. Maybe Kakarotto just didn’t want HIM.
The prince sat at the table and pondered this possibility for several moments before snorting and finally taking a sip of his water. Impossible. Who wouldn’t want him? Besides, he’d seen the looks the younger man threw his way when he didn't think he was looking.
He just needed a few more pushes in the right direction.
----------------------------------------------
“So this is where you’ve been.”
Goku paused in the middle of his shadow boxing and looked up at Vegeta, who was sitting on a branch in a nearby tree.
He blinked his green eyes. “How long have you been there?”
The prince frowned and jumped down to the ground, slowly stalking up to the Super Saiyajin in front of him. “Too long. You should have sensed me the moment I arrived here. You’re distracted and you’re avoiding me.”
Goku’s hand went to the back of his head and his eyes darted to the ground. “It’s not you, Vegeta.”
The older man raised an eyebrow. “Oh? What’s the problem then?”
“It’s not a big deal.”
“Kakarotto!”
A blush spread over Goku’s face and he continued to rub the back of his head. “It’s Neil.” he mumbled.
If not for his Saiyajin ears, Vegeta wouldn’t have caught it. “That ningen?”
The younger man nodded. “He found out I’m staying at Capsule Corp… I suppose ChiChi told him.” he said with a hint of bitterness. “He started calling, and I’ve seen him outside the building several times now, so I figured if I spent time away from there, he’d think I’d gone somewhere else and stop coming around.”
Vegeta folded his arms over his chest and scowled at the ground. That ningen had the audacity to continue to torment Kakarotto, even after his threats. Some nerve.
The prince’s scowl was replaced with a smirk. “I can make him disappear.”
Goku blinked before shaking his head. “No. I can take care of this myself.”
“Oh, and you’re doing a fine job too.”
The younger man stomped his foot in irritation as his tail lashed behind him. “It’s not so easy, Vegeta!”
Vegeta raised an eyebrow. “What’s so difficu---,” He paused as a thought hit him. “You… you aren’t actually worried about this ningen’s feelings, are you?!”
Goku frowned and shuffled his foot. “You don’t understand.”
The prince grit his teeth as a surge of jealousy suddenly swept through him. “How exactly do you feel about him then, hn?”
“I don’t…I don’t love him if that’s what you’re asking!”
Before Vegeta could say anything more, Goku raised two fingers to his forehead. “I’ll take care of this right now if it bothers you so much.” With that, the Saiyajin disappeared.
