A Saiyan Alive
Return to Base, part 2
Chapter Six: Return to Base, Part 2
//Ten minutes to landing. Hibernation off.// A computerized voice sounded, waking Raddi and Hawk to their imminent arrival on Planet Frieza 246, formerly known as Dunlaht-sei.
The small round pod and her two passengers crashed onto the springy docking pad, bouncing two or three times before stabilizing enough for Raddi to open the hatch. She emerged, gesturing Hawk to do the same. While the other girl climbed out of the pod, looking around at the base, Raddi clicked on her scouter.
"Yes, Commander. Mission status: complete. Requesting leave period of one year Standard Empire time. No, off-planet. As soon as possible. Yes, Commander. Over." She clicked the button again, ending the transmission. Turning to Hawk, she said, "Come on, this way to the mess hall. Hibernation trips make me hungry. We leave for Earth in two days."
Hawk followed Raddi, scrutinizing the base as they walked through it. To the left were officer's quarters and what appeared to be a medical wing. The landing bay was behind them, and to the right were barracks for regular purge soldiers. Ahead was the mess hall, where the girls were now headed. Beyond that, sounds of clashing metal, fists on flesh, yells, and explosions led Hawk to believe the training grounds were there. Raddi led her ally toward a counter filled with covered dishes.
The Saiyan grabbed several plates piled high with rice-like grains, some kind of fowl in a red-brown sauce, and what looked like toasted lizard on skewers. She balanced them expertly as she walked to an empty table, leaving Hawk to get her own food. Taking considerably smaller portions, Hawk filled her own plate and went to join Raddi.

"So…" Hawk's voice broke through the haze of sleep, and Raddi's eyes blinked open. "Exactly what possessed you to spar when we leave for Earth tomorrow?" Copper fire swirled around Hawk's cross-legged figure as she worked a healing on the Saiyan's broken wrist.
Raddi smirked weakly. "It's the Saiyan way…" she muttered, wondering why she wasn't in a regen tank. Right now that didn't seem to matter; Hawk's wildmagic seemed to work better, in any case…
