“Now, tell me again. I can’t put together the information I was given and the information I was just told.” Lord Koga paced in the Hokoru family’s doctors’ room (that’s a mouthful ><), where Vegeta was healing.
Vegeta sighed. He really wanted to get some rest. He hasn’t slept all night. “It’s like I said, Master. The samurai seems to be the target of the Doumei clan. When their assassins attacked, they went after me as well. Even after I told them who I was.”
“Why did you bother to come back if you didn’t complete your mission?” Lord Hokoru interrupted as he studied his son.
Vegeta glared at his father. “Because it wouldn’t be wise to kill someone that is already a target of another clan.”
Lord Koga nodded. “True that it sounds like the Doumei’s business, but it’s safe to say that we shouldn’t stay out of it.” Vegeta perked up at this as his Master stopped pacing. “First of all, the Doumei clan is our ally. We must aid them if we can. Second, even though this changes a few things, it certainly doesn’t change the samurai’s intentions. He’s in our territory now. There must be a reason why he’s here. ”
Vegeta scoffed. “To get away from his enemies. What other reason could there be?”
“Well, he could be after one of us. After all, he’s killed many nobles-”
“Ever thought that maybe they were assassins sent to kill him?” Vegeta interjected. He couldn’t believe he was stupid enough to think that this was enough information to leave Kakarot alone.
“Why are you being so defensive with the samurai? You don’t even know him.” Ookami stepped into the conversation. Supposedly, he came in the hopes of seeing if his fiancé was alright…if anyone believes that.
Vegeta sighed to keep his anger in check. “I’m just picturing what it’s like in his point of view. There are thousands of people being deceived everyday. What if this is one of them?”
Silence ensued for a moment as Lord Koga studied Vegeta. “Ookami’s right. You do seem to be quite defensive with the samurai. Is there something you’re not telling us?”
Vegeta growled. He must calm himself and think things through before speaking. “I interrogated the samurai after we were attacked.” He lied…sort of. “The look in his eyes said he was telling me the truth and the tone of his voice was sincere-”
“What else have you done with this samurai?” Ookami interrupted as he watched his fiancé defend a stranger. He knew him better than that and that’s something he’d never do.
Vegeta tried not to look guilty as he put on an annoyed expression. “Now, now Ookami. Let’s not jump to conclusions. Vegeta was simply doing his job. He went to plan B when the situation changed.” Lord Koga defended his best assassin as he turned his attention back to him. “Where were your comrades while you were interrogating the target?”
Vegeta’s expression became cautious. “We dispersed to cover more ground-”
“I told you to stay together.” Lord Koga’s tone of voice showed some of his anger, but managed to stay calm.
“Well, we weren’t given a specific location and Edo is a large area. If the mission was going to be accomplished, it should be done in one night.” Vegeta countered as he calmly explained his motives.
“Staying alive is much more important!” Lord Koga shot back.
“I’m an assassin! Failure isn’t an option and when it is, death is the right punishment!” Vegeta’s voice rose, not willing to give in to the argument.
“That rule doesn’t apply to you!” Lord Koga’s voice rose along with his, but stopped himself as he sighed in annoyance and studied Vegeta a bit longer. “It’s late. We shall continue this conversation when you’re better.” He headed out of the room and came up to one of his guards. “Immediately let me know when Vegeta is better.” The guard affirmed the order and escorted his Lord and Master to his carriage.
As soon as Ookami joined his father in the carriage, it was his turn to ask questions. “How do you know what you’ve just heard is the truth?”
Lord Koga looked sternly at his son. “We have compared the cuts on Vegeta to the Doumei’s assassin blades. They match.”
Ookami narrowed his eyes at the answer. “It still seems like he’s hiding something.”
Lord Koga kept a calm exterior. “Indeed he is, son. Indeed he is.”

Vegeta couldn’t sleep. Not with the pain in his chest and not the shame that ate at his mind. He could’ve done better than that. He’s a pro at keeping his sincere mask on, how come it crumbled this time? Was what he did really so horrible? The noble sighed and closed his eyes. He didn’t know. What happened just…happened. Was it attraction or envy that made him act on what took place? What if it was neither? Or both? Vegeta sighed in frustration as his hands covered his eyes. He didn’t know why it happened. Kakarot probably didn’t even know why it happened. Kakarot. As soon as he sees him again, he’ll probably get another lecture on how wrong that was. How come the man was predictable in his words but not in his actions? Another question he’ll have trapped in his mind.
The young noble tried to clear his mind as he concentrated on sleep. It worked for a while, until his sleep turned into naps at odd time intervals. When the sun made it’s early morning colors, he gave up on sleep and decided to wait until someone came to wake him for breakfast. When the time came, the doctor came in to check on his wounds while servants came in and out, preparing his breakfast for him to eat in bed. “How are we feeling today, Your Highness?”
Vegeta sighed. “A bit sore, but I’ve had worse.”
The doctor eyed his wounds. “Yes, I know you have.” It was a good thing he didn’t return with the bandages that Kakarot had wrapped around him, otherwise, people would’ve been suspicious. Instead, he returned with what looked like fresh wounds and he was bandaged up again as soon as he returned.
The noble watched as the doctor gave him some more medicine and changed his bandages. “How long will I have to be bedridden?”
The doctor took a moment to respond. “I’d say a week at least.”
“A week?! I’ll go mental! Surely another day would do.” Vegeta almost jumped out of bed at the answer.
The doctor didn’t argue. “It all depends on how you feel.”
“I feel fine. In fact, I think I’m already healed.” He tried talking himself out of staying in bed for a week.
“I don’t think so.” Lord Hokoru stepped into the room and interjected into the conversation (as he’s so good at doing). “Do what the doctor says. That’s what he’s here for; to get you better. We don’t want you to die before your ceremony, do we?” Vegeta didn’t answer as he thought about it. “Do we?” Lord Hokoru asked more sternly when he didn’t get a reply.
He sighed in defeat. “No, I suppose not.”
His father narrowed his eyes at him, but let the subject go as he moved over to the bedside to see what the damage was. “What’d you do anyway? Let your guard down?”
Vegeta sighed in annoyance. He just couldn’t leave him alone, could he? “For a moment.”
“You thought they’d actually listen to you if you told them who you were?” He pressed on.
Vegeta growled. “I wasn’t paying attention at what was above me.”
“You should be aware of everything around you. That’s what you were trained for-”
“Master has already lectured me! Now, would you please stick to what you normally lecture me about?!” The doctor got out of the way once the argument started and left the room.
Lord Hokoru clenched his hands into fists, but held himself back. “Watch yourself, boy. Just because you’re injured, doesn’t mean you’ll get special treatment.”
Vegeta sneered. “I know.” Like he ever got that anyways.
Both noble’s stared at each other until Lady Hokoru came in. “How are you feeling, dear?” She came over to stand in front of her husband; a sign saying it was time for him to leave.
Vegeta sighed as his father left the room. “I’ll live.”
Lady Hokoru came over to sit at his side on the bed and touched his face. “You need to be more careful, sweetheart. I don’t want to lose you.” Vegeta tried not to sigh at his mother’s expression. He knew how much being in this line of work affected her, but it’s not like he had a choice.
“I know, Mother. But don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere…unfortunately.” He mumbled the last word so she didn’t catch it.
She sighed. “That doesn’t make me feel much better.” However, she smiled softly and stroked his hair before kissing him on the forehead. “But I’m glad you’re alright.” He didn’t say anything as she stood and headed for the door, then paused. “Your Father cares about you, you know that don’t you?”
He tried not to grimace. “If expressing it in a way where he only cares for my wellbeing because I’m going to marry into another clan for his status is his display of ‘affection,’ then I know.” He replied sarcastically.
Her expression became kind. “It’s because he acts like that that he cares about you. In fact, he seemed really worried. He just…doesn’t know how to express it. If you were married to him as long as I have been, then you would understand.”
“Well it’s a good thing I’m not.” He grumbled as he looked out the window from his position.
She sighed again, then looked at his untouched food. “Eat so you can get better.” She paused. “Do everything you’re told and you won’t have to lay in bed for so long.” A hint of a smile made its way to her lips as she left the room.
Vegeta grimaced at the command and eyed his food, then quickly ate it so everyone will be happy.

A week had passed until Vegeta’s wounds were finally healed. Even though he was fine a few days before, he was still forced to stay until he was completely healed. He sat on the edge of the bed as he put on his shirt, then stood to finish dressing in casual wear. “Sire,” A servant welcomed himself in the room, “Lord Koga has asked for your attendance at his manor. He expects you in an hour.” The servant bowed slightly as he waited for his Master’s response.
Vegeta sneered as he stared at the servant. Right. “Fine. I’ll be ready soon.”
The servant bowed a little more. “A carriage and six guards are waiting for you out front, Sire.” This time, he didn’t wait for a response as he simply left the room.
Vegeta jerked at the explanation, or more like ‘intended order.’ Six?! He grimaced at the increase in useless protection. Was it because of what happened to him a week before? Or was it because he wasn’t trusted? When it came to situations like this, Vegeta would speak to his father about his outrage, but knowing his efforts would be futile. So, he decided not to fight it and just be on his way. He paused before leaving the room, wondering if he should put on his robes or not. Maybe he should, better be safe than sorry, but he’d just feel silly since he was just injured and surely his Master requested his presence just to lecture him some more. Whatever. He left his room, without his robes, and met with the carriage and six useless guards out front. He avoided his father’s office on his way so he wouldn’t get another lecture from him. Once outside, his guards’ expressions showed shock at his lack of respect in attire, but didn’t comment as they set off towards the Hara’s manor.
When they arrived, Vegeta sighed as he glared at the inevitable, then approached the familiar entrance; doors opening before he approached them. “Vegeta-” Lord Koga greeted him, but stopped short when he did a once over on his soon-to-be-son-in-law’s attire.
Vegeta didn’t resist rolling his eyes as he sighed at his Master’s reaction. “I didn’t want to spend the whole day on formal attire since you wanted to see me in so little time.” He crossed his arms.
Lord Koga recuperated and coughed. “Yes, well…this way.” He stepped sideways and waved him over so Vegeta could walk side by side with him. When Vegeta reached his side, he draped an arm over his shoulders as they headed toward his office. “I hope you are feeling well?” Vegeta tensed from the touch and nodded. “Good. Now, the reason why I called you was so we can go over everything that happened in your last mission.”
Vegeta stopped walking with his Master as his expression became annoyed. “But…I already told you everything.”
Lord Koga studied his pupil’s expression. “I don’t think you have. Your story seems a bit…out of line.” His expression became cautious when he said this.
Vegeta stood with shock. “Are you saying you don’t believe me? Why would I lie?”
His Master’s expression became a bit more cautious. “I’m not saying you’re lying, I just think you’re hiding something.”
The young noble couldn’t keep it together much longer. “How much more do you want to know? Did you want me to explain in detail in how I got injured? Do I need to explain everything step by step from when I left the manor to when I came back?!” His anger finally became evident in the last sentence.
“Well, yes.” Lord Koga replied meekly.
“Yes what?!” Vegeta didn’t know what his Master wanted. He was seconds away from a tantrum.
“Yes, I want you to tell me everything.” His Master answered more sternly.
Vegeta sneered as he glared at his Master. “Oh, Vegeta! You’re better!” Ookami decided to make an appearance, his servants surrounding him as he broke away from them and went over to Vegeta and embraced him. Vegeta stiffened at the gesture and didn’t respond. If the hug wasn’t enough, then the handling was as Ookami made a display of checking over his healed injuries in a worried gesture. After a few moments, he stopped and held his fiancé’s face in a loving way. “I’m so glad you’re well.” Vegeta tried not to grimace at the gesture as his fiancé leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek. For some reason, Vegeta suddenly missed Kakarot at that moment. He wanted to be with someone where he wouldn’t have to pretend. His expression became saddened, but Lord Koga and Ookami took it as a mutual emotion that Ookami was expressing.
Vegeta came back to the present as he realized both Lord Koga and Ookami were waiting for a reaction. “Yes, well the injuries weren’t too serious.”
Ookami smiled at his response, as if he was pleased to hear that. He then looked over Vegeta’s attire as if looking at it for the first time. “What happened to your robes?” Vegeta tried coming up with an explanation, knowing his Master was wondering the same thing; he probably didn’t believe his answer, but was stopped before he could. “Never mind. You look dashing in them anyway.” He adjusted his thin white shirt and his blue pants as if to try and make them look better on him, but Vegeta knew he liked them better than the robes. He could see it in his eyes. After all, the robes were too big to tell what kind of figure he had.
Vegeta glanced at his Master, who scrutinized him. He coughed, “Thank you. I didn’t have enough time to get around.”
Ookami smiled mischievously as Vegeta blushed lightly. “Well, son. If you don’t mind, we have some business to take care of.” Lord Koga intervened.
Ookami turned to his father. “Oh, in that case, I’ll be off.” He turned from his fiancé and back to the circle of servants waiting for him.
After Vegeta got over Ookami’s surprisingly believable acting skills, he glared at his back as his Master motioned him over. “Come on, Vegeta.”
Vegeta faced his Master again, the glare still fixed on his face.

Uh oh. O.o *sings* Vegeta’s in trouble, Vegeta’s in trouble…*giggles* So, I couldn’t come up with anything else for this chapter. :/ It wasn’t yet time for Kakarot and him to meet. Though, they should meet soon, or else Kakarot might leave. O.o
