Nightmares
Chapter eight;
Nightmares
Last night Zechs couldn’t sleep because he was too angry with Une, with Sally, even with the other gundam boys. He had always thought that the five pilots were good friends, and the fact that Une didn’t even pick up her phone and dialed one of their numbers made him even angrier.
Why would she not want him to stay with them?!
He was angry with Wufei too. For letting himself get hurt by a pack of street rats. He was a master of martial arts for God’s sake! He shouldn’t have been that easily overpowered!
But mostly he was beating himself up for not being mad at Wufei at all. Well, he was upset that he had to act as a babysitter for the annoying brat, but in reality he didn’t mind having a houseguest, even if it had to be Wufei.
He didn’t like to come home to emptiness.
Though it wouldn’t have hurt if the man he was supposed to take care of was interested in more than just being a house guest.
And not fighting all the time.
And not being named Chang Wufei.
A smile crept upon his lips when he thought about yesterday. The boy really was too stubborn for his own good. Zechs only hoped that that and last night’s event would be enough to prove to the dark haired beauty that he was going to help. Asked or not.
Beauty?! When had he started to think of the boy as beautiful?
He frowned, but his forehead soon let go of the small lines it had made.
It would have-
No, it must have been right after Wufei had jerked away from him earlier that day, when he accidentally brushed his hands a little too close for being a friendly touch or maybe it was when the young Chinese had fallen asleep while he still was sitting in his lap earlier.
He smiled.
The youth had nice legs too, but it had to be that expression the boy had had over his features that had lured his mind, so pure and so innocent…
Or maybe it was because he had been a little too lonely lately and starting to see things that wasn’t really there. But this night he didn’t feel the need to hold onto all that hate and anger.
He hadn’t had a lot of sleep ever since he had found out that he was forced to take the Chinese agent in. He had barely been able to close his eyes lately, so tonight when he felt that things might not be as bad as he had thought, he figured that he would stay asleep for as long as possible, but no…
No, tonight the youth next to him had promptly decided to re-live, what Zechs thought to be some of the worst parts of the war days. The boy was thrashing around in bed, kicking and whimpering in small sobs, and he had been for some time now. But it had never been really loud, and Zechs would have been able to fall asleep even if Wufei moved around a little.
When the first small sobs had started about half an hour ago the tall blond had ignored it. It wasn’t in his place to keep those nightmares at bay. The boy was strong enough to pull himself out of it without any of his help.
Just minutes later Wufei had started moving, kicking him, thankfully without any strength behind it or he would have crawled into a fatal position long ago. He didn’t think much of it. Both Noin and Treize had done the same several times.
Except from that they hadn’t been injured at the time.
…Then those small sobs broke out into pained whispers.
He had kept telling himself that it wasn’t his job to calm the dreams. He didn’t know what they were of, and he surely didn’t have the boy’s permission to do anything about it.
But now, after waiting for, what it seemed like, an eternity for those marring memories to ease down so that the young Chinese could get some decent sleep, and he knew that if he didn’t do anything soon he wouldn’t even get a flicker of sleep himself.
Zechs rolled over and reached out a hand to shake his sleeping patient’s shoulder, but stopped at the sight that laid before his eyes.
The small Chinese almost looked like a broken porcelain doll with those dark shadows hollowing his face. The youth’s little mouth was trembling slightly and his eyelids pressed tightly shut in inner pain.
“Chang?”
His fingers had only brushed by Wufei’s skin before his chest was pushed back by a hard punch.
“Chang!” He muttered hoarse and took a hold of both of Wufei’s wrists. “Wufei,”
The Chinese youth froze as those hands encircled his wrists. His whole body tensed and his face was drawn up in fear.
Somebody was touching him and he couldn’t pull away!
He felt himself being pushed down hard against the mattress. A small inaudible whimper passed between his lips as he tried to wheedle out of the large man’s hold.
“..mn..no..”
“You’re just having a bad dream,” A harsh voice whispered soothing.
The small agent shook his head violently and forced the other man’s large hands away from his body.
He didn’t want anybody to ever touch him again!
That same voice whispered those same words again, and again, telling him that it wasn’t real. That it wasn’t happening…
He refused to believe those words, he could feel hands on his body, holding him down.. Warm breath hovering over his face, he could feel the heat from the body next to him. All that could not be imagined.
So he kept fighting. He wouldn’t let that man near him. He couldn’t…
“Wufei calm down! You’ll only hurt yourself if you struggle like this!” Zechs voice tried to break through the foggy dreams. “Please, it’s just a bad dream Wufei... It’s just a dream. Dreams can’t hurt you...” He murmured over and over again, wishing that this small china doll would wake up from his torment.
The voice came closer to Wufei and suddenly soft silken strands of hair brushed against his cheeks. Hair as soft as an angel’s...
…Safe? His mind wondered. An angel wouldn’t hurt him, would it?
For a short while he hardly even breathed, but then… He didn’t know why, but he lashed out for those strong hands that had held his just moments ago and pulled himself closer to the blond man’s body.
…Yes, safe…
Zechs had to blink several times before he could grasp reality.
Chang Wufei was lying on top of him, using him as a pillow.
And he was smiling! As if the nightmares never had breathed over his features.
Zechs sighed and moved his hands to peal off Wufei’s.
Having another body against his felt more than good, but if they were to awake like this in the morning there would be a fistful. Especially from the young Chinese cuddled to him.
But it wasn’t as easy as Zechs had thought to move the small man off him. As soon as the young agent felt that somebody was trying to move him he dug his fingers deeper into the man’s pale skin.
“hnnm.. no…” He muttered and moved his legs around Zechs’s own, locking their bodies together.
“No, Chang let go.” Zechs said and tried once again to peal the small hands off his body. But as it seemed it would be impossible. Whenever he tried to move the youth off him, Wufei just clung even more so desperate to him. He wouldn’t be able to separate them without one, or both of them getting hurt in the process.
He sighed and let his head fall back onto the pillows. He had fought too many battles to know when he was in a losing one.
And there was no mistake that this was one of those battles. He just had to learn how to deal with it if he was going to be able to get some sleep tonight.
He just had to do the best of the situation…
And a good start would be to rearrange the sheets around them so that they wouldn’t wake up in the morning with lines over their whole bodies. While he with one hand hugged the small agent closer to his chest the other pulled the bed sheets out from under the boy’s body.
That made them lay skin to skin.
Somehow during their struggle Wufei’s nightshirt had managed to slide up over his chest. Zechs couldn’t help himself and caressed that naked skin.
It was just as smooth as his legs had been.
Zechs smiled and let his eyes travel over the sleeping form. Wufei had released his hair from its usually strained ponytail and the dark hair laid spread all over his chest, framing the young Chinese’s face.
The youth really looked beautiful like that, relaxed and in peace. He wasn’t like that during the days. Then he had always some kind of stern expression over his features, hiding away that beauty he possessed.
He lifted his head and looked down at the young Chinaman lying atop of his chest. It was the boy who was cuddling up against him, wasn’t it? Then Zechs wouldn’t be doing something wrong if he held him? Touched him?
Right?
