Chapter 9
Hilde reached out and felt Duo’s warm body next to hers. She gently caressed his back to wake him. He rolled over and reached for her pulling her body next to him. She sighed as their skin touched . She felt his hands began to roam and touch her in the ways she loved. She did the same exploring his sensual places and making him groan. It was no wonder she was pregnant. They made love constantly, And this early morning rendezvous was no exception. After the act was over and they lay panting in each others arms Hilde sighed and kissed him softly. Then she spoke.
“Duo, has any one ever tried to invade your mind?”
He opened his eyes and looked at her. “Once a long time ago.”
“Really? Explain.”
He rolled over to his back and looked up at the rock ceiling above him. “It’s hard to explain and it was painful, but I know it can never happen again.”
“Oh, you don’t have to tell me, Duo, I understand.”
“No, I have to. It was like a violation, some one pushed in and tried to take my thoughts. Weird feeling but my mind retaliated and pushed them out. I mean really pushed them out. By extreme force!”
She nodded. ”How did you stop them?”
“I don’t know . Wu Fei told me I have a natural blocker. No one can get in , unless I let them.”
“Oh.”
“Hilde,” he said to her as he rolled over to his side and looked at her. “Try to get in. I know you can do it.”
She swallowed and looked into his eyes and let her thoughts enter his. He allowed her to enter . She felt a blush as he let her read what he had thought of the act they had just performed. She could feel his body reacting to the actions as was hers. She pulled back and opened her eyes.
“Now try it.”
She nodded and did the same procedure again, but this time met a brick wall, or so it seemed.
No matter how she tired she could not enter his thoughts.
She felt him probe hers and she knew he had found her secret and the dream.
Duo pulled back and said. “He was in your head. When?”
“Last night.”
“And you’re pregnant. Where you going to tell me? ”
She nodded.
“When?”
“After this was over. I didn’t want you getting all over protective on me.” She explained softly
He reached for her and drew him into his arms., then chuckled.
“Good. We can finish this quest and settle down. Make love all day long and raise our children. As far a s Treize getting into your head . You can stop him, you have the skills. I felt them, Hilde, they are there.”
“How do I use them?”
His hand moved to her belly and his finger tips caressed it softly. His mouth moved to her mouth and they kissed.
After the kiss was released he smiled. “Oh you’ll know if and when he tries it again. It’s a subconscious thing. When He tries to invade., You’ll know and it will happen.”
She nodded, trying to understand what he meant. She lay there thoughtful for a few moments until Duo rose and padded bad to the bath Noin had shown them. She heard a loud splash and then rose to join him.

Noin sat waiting quietly as her two guests rose and made their way to her main chamber. She was in no hurry to leave although she knew it was time. Besides she had a lover to find. She was tired of being alone. Finding her true love would break the spell fr free her. This was her home and it felt a little sad to leave this place. She wondered if things would work out for her. She sighed. There would be many adventures before that she was sure. . She sighed as she moved across the large chamber to her catches of gold coins. She put several into bags and set them on the floor beside her. Each would put a bag in their packs. Should they get separated they would be able to go on. The quest had to be completed, no matter the cost. Treize had to be stopped before he destroyed everything. The world was all ready falling into the darkness. She glanced at the catches of gold and silver. She should bury it and then come back to find it. She went and fetched a few more bags. She wasn’t greedy but she wanted to take most of it with her. She was going to share with her new friends also. She filled a few more bags and placed them with the others. She nodded see the pile of bags. She hoped it would be enough. She heard her guests and new friends approaching
She turned and smiled as the two came into view. Duo was a handsome as she remembered him and still as viral as he was at 16. He hadn’t wanted her then and she knew why. She looked over at the strong woman at his side. She was very pretty with the deep blue eyes and the blue tinged hair. She was his soul mate, even Noin could see it. it radiated from them both. Hilde literally glowed as she carried his child. A child that would be extremely gifted. A child touched with wild magic. She wondered what this child could bring to this world and if the dark wizard Treize knew yet. If he did there would be grave trouble for them both. She acknowledged as they approached her .
She nodded then pointed to the bags on the floor. “Take those. If we get separated we can continue on. Take half each of you.”
Duo ked ked at the bags, then reached for one.
Hilde looked up at Noin and asked, “Are you sure? After all it is your treasure.”
Noin snor “W “Where do you think I got this treasure? It was stolen. Dragons steal to get their treasures.”
Hilde nodded, and reached for some bags also.
“By me giving it to you it helps release me from this curse. Dragons are greedy creatures and like to hoard their treasures what ever they may be. “
Hilde smiled and stuffed them in her bag. Duo did the same.
“Are we ready?”
Both nodded in agreement and proceeded out of the large cave and into the daylight.
Noin took one look back and swiftly pulled the hood of her cape over her head, covering her face. Most all her skin was covered, so to disguise that she was a dragon. No reason to get undue attention. At least not yet.

Zechs rode in the front of the group of men he was leading into the heart of the enchanted forest. This forest was said to haunted , possessed by demons, or some silly crap like that. He didn’t believe in such things. He had his feet firmly on the ground, and he planed to keep them there. He could feel the nervousness his men felt as soon as they entered here.
“Be aware men, what ever doesn’t look human slay.”
There was the sounds swords being drawn and soft mumblings of the men. Zechs sighed. It was going to be a long journey.
He pulled his horse into a trot and rode a head of his men, being watch full for *things*. He didn’t know if things existed but he wasn’t going to take a chance. He had to find that damn dragon and it’s two companions also. He was to slay the dragon and the others. Treize wanted it, so what Treize wanted he got, or you faced the consequences. But Zechs wasn’t happy about it, not at all. Treize’s demands were getting more and more of a insane man. He knew that he anted this land terribly but he was unsure why he wanted it. He only brought death and destruction here. Zechs was tired of all the wars and death. Too many people had died for this quest of Treize’s, what ever that happened to be, he wasn’t sure if even Treize knew any more.
The ride into the forest was getting routine as they traveled farther into the depths of it. It seem to get darker and more eerie. The first few nights they were in the outer edges and it didn’t seem so forbidding. As they traveled deeper things began to happen. Men screamed in terror as they were touched and tugged at. Yet nothing could be seen. Zechs made the men build huge fires at night to keep the unwanted creatures away, He took a torch and moved away from the camp to gather a few more branches for the fire when he heard a high pitched waling coming from what sounded like his camp. He turned on his heel and ran back as quickly as he could navigate the darkness. What he met there made him cry out in shock as he dropped the torch to the ground. He was in shock for only a millisecond as he drew his sword and began to join the fight was all ready lost. The creatures had attacked the camp, killing several of his men by surprise. The blood and gore was unbelievable. He hacked and slashed his way through the mass but in the end it was to no avail. He felt something slide through his side, something sharp and unforgiving. He looked at his attacker with a shocked expression as he dropped his sword and his knees buckled. The creature in front of him could not be described . It was a mix of several creatures , including a bit of human. It was like it just created it self from bits and pieces. The last words he heard were “ Leave this one alive, devour the rest.”
It seemed his luck wouldn’t change.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Noin stopped looking around the terrain. Something was wrong.
“Hilde! Duo! Your swords!” She cried, “Draw them. “thinthing approaches. Something evil. I can’t fight it!”
Duo and Hilde drew their swords at the same time and stepped in front of her. The creatures that stepped out in front of them were magic made . The power they welded was enormous.
Hilde glanced over at Duo who in turn glanced at her . He nodded as a huge grin appeared on his face.
“Ready, babe?”
She nodded and grinned , holding back any thoughts that would kil the the spot. She would save those thoughts for later. They stepped up and began to battle the beasts, cutting them with the swords. The blood and gore was unbelievable. Noin couldn’t believe her eyes! They were so swift in taking out their enemies.
Hilde stepped back, viewing the carnage, and smiled. “We weren’t given our nick-names because of what we wear. “
Duo grunted as he wiped off his sword. “let’s see what they have just come from shall we?”
They pushed through the dense brush and came across the a mass of bones and flesh.
Hilde looked through the carnage and grimaced. “These were humans. “
“Any one alive?” Duo asked, looked over the mass.
Hilde stepped closer and almost answered no when a movement caught her eye. “Yes! Over here!”
Duo and Noin hurried over to where she was pointing.
As Duo got closer he frowned. “It’s marquise!”
“No shit?” Hilde asked as she came closer.
“Yeah. Ah, man. We have to save our enemy.”
“Yeah. I guess so.”
They pulled the wounded man from the mess and the two of them carried him away to the side of the trail.
Noin stepped closer to the wounded man. “Zechs” she whispered.
Duo knelt beside him and placed his hands over him.
“Duo! What are you…”
“Shh.” He said softly.
“Duo, be careful. Don’t over tax yourself.”
He looked up at her and winked. “Nope, just a quick push and I’ll be done.”
He raised his hands and closed his eyes sending a stream of white energy to the man below him.
Zechs glowed for a few seconds , then the light faded. Duo dropped back and sat hard on the ground. “there. My good deed is done for the day. ”
He looked over at Hilde and smiled weakly. “You got something to eat, Hilde, babe?” he aske he he closed his eyes and passed out from the effort.
Hilde hurried to his side and pulled out her skin of water. She tilted his head nd gnd gave him a small drink, knowing he would swallow and open his eyes.
He coughed and did as she had thought.
“Sorry, babe. I forget how much that takes out of me. “ He sighed as he leaned against her. “Still got something to eat?”
She grinned and handed him a piece of jerked beef. He took it gratefully and began to chew on it. They watched as Noin hovered over the recovering Zechs.
Noin looked down at the blonde man and sighed. It was her Zechs. After all these years she finally found him. She looked at herself and knew he would reject her, because she wasn’t the same person he knew. She was a cursed person, a dragon. His enemy! She stepped back and turned to The two on the ground.
“I must go before he awakes. He can not see me like this until he is ready to believe that I was once his wife. Only then will this curse be broken.” She looked again at the man, who was starting to stir. “I shall meet you at the inn at the end of the forest.” She looked up, toward the sky. “Yes. I’ll be there .”
She moved away and transformed into her dragon form. She spread her wings ros rose into the sky.
Duo and Hilde watched in awe until she disappeared from sight. They then focused on the man in front of them.
“Duo, perhaps we should go. He does want to kill us. Let’s not give him the opportunity. He doesn’t need to know you saved him. He won’t care that you did. He is just that way.”
Duo nodded. “I know , babe. Besides we do have to be some where. I’m sure he’ll follow us to the inn. We can confront him later.”
Hilde got to her feet and pulled Duo up. He was still weak from his lifesaving efforts. “Man I like saving lives but it sure takes a lot out of you.” He laughed as he leaned against her. She smiled as they moved down the path and out of sight.
Zechs opened his eyes and saw the demon bodies around him. He groaned and sat up slowly. He frowned as he tried to remember what had happened. He remembered the demons sparing him, but why? Then something else came in his mind. Some one touching him slightly and a warm form of magic engulfed him. He touched his chest where the feeling lingered. He wondered if the feeling would always be there. It was likes someone had placed a little bit of them selves there. Then he remembered a voice from the past. Who was that voice? He tried to place the voice with the memory but could not. It was right on the tip of his tongue but could not be recalled.
He rose. Someone had saved his life, gave a bit of themselves to him and well, it was time to start over. No longer would he be a part of Treize’s evil plan. It was time to become who he truly was.
He was a king, and it was high time he acted like one.
He knew what he had to do, but he had no army. Perhaps a few helpful friends would be just the right way to do this. Time to call in some old markers from people who owed him.
Quatre was still angry with the fact that Relena was so close to Dorothy. He knew his cousin was something evil but yet he could not put his finger on it. And in his heart he knew she held no malice toward Relena. But it still griped him that she was so close. She still was quite dangerous. He hoped someone would keep an eye on her while he was away. He sighed as he let those thoughts drift away and new ones enter. The long arc inn. That’s where his next stop was going to be. Duo and Hilde would be there soon. And he had to be there to help them on the next leg of this journey. Relena wanted them back in the kingdom, but Quatre was still leery of her motives. She didn’t seem like a deceiving kind of person but most people do not. Humans really couldn’t be trusted. They were too emotional. Everything was feelings to them from ate to love to even lust. She could still have underlying feeling of hate and distrust of her one time friends. She may not even know that these feeling exist. Sometimes the hold of magic was hard to break. Relena was a good Queen but she trusted people too easily and that could be her down fall. Quatre sighed. He should put a little warning in Hilde’s ear, but Hilde already distrusted her and well he didn’t want to fuel the fire. They had to get through this before those old hurts were brought up again. Telling Duo would be a waste. He didn’t believe there was any malice in Relena’s request. Sometimes he was just as trusting as Relena. And he may be right but Quatre had a bad feeling about all of this . He sighed. It was getting late and he needed to get to the inn. There was someone there he wanted to see again.
Catherine looked out the door of the inn as she wiped her hands on the towel she held. The sun was beginning to set and the cold night air made her shiver. Would there ever be a time that it would be warm again. The snow on the ground would not go away. It seemed to be an endless winter. The magic that was protecting this world seemed to be fading with each new day. She knew there was trouble brewing she could feel it in her bones. Trowa had said nothing but had given her that look. The one that he too could sense the impending doom. She wondered who would survive all of it. The crowd at the inn had become larger as the days past, whether people were afraid and just going off to other parts or whether they were just curious to see what all the ruckus was about . Someone had even stated a dragon had been seen lately. She snorted as she closed the door and moved back toward the little nook she used as a kitchen.
“Dragons, indeed.” she murmured as she pulled a boiling pot of water from the flames. She poured the steaming water over several tea leaves and let the pungent odor fill the small room. The meals here for the most part were simple. They consisted of potatoes and a slice of what ever kind of meat was available. Sometimes if Trowa could get there was a vegetable or two. But the season had been very short and the patrons were lucky to get meat. not much of a diet.. Ale and meat. she sighed and bushed her hand over her forehead, looking up from the fireplace as she heard her name being called. Trowa stood in the doorway ,motioning her to follow him.
“There’s some one here you may want to see, sis.”
“Oh?”
He nodded and stepped away from the door so she could step out into the main floor. Her mouth dropped opened and she almost squealed in delight.
