Chapter 9
My first victim was Wufei.
He was – shockingly – dancing with Sally towards the middle of the dance floor. His costume was of a more royal nature, with fine fabric and the Chang family crest embroidered on the back of his tunic. He was every inch the proud warrior of a noble family, and I suppose that just this one night a year he really allowed himself to dress and feel the part. And in some ways I felt sorry for what I was about to do to him.
Ok, not so much.
Sally and Wufei had been dancing around each other for awhile now – no pun intended – I suppose its very similar to what Duo and I were doing. We all knew how she felt, we all knew how he felt, they both had an idea that perhaps the other had feelings for them, but neither were very sure. It was all very complicated and ridiculously simple at the same time. Ok, so it’s almost exactly like Duo and I, sheesh, kill a guys last hope at denial!
Duo had taught me a long time ago some of the more, lets call them “unstructured”, dance moves, so he and I headed out to the floor and made our way over to Wufei and Sally. The song had a great beat and we danced close to them for a while, Wufei glancing our way periodically, brows furrowed together in confusion. I could see him whispering to Sally, who was shaking her head earnestly, but with a small smile on her lips. I caught Duo’s eye and smirked, angling my head in Wufei’s direction. He laughed and nodded.
He lead us right next to the two of them, let go of me, and snatched Sally from Wufei, tossing a “Mind if I cut in?” over his shoulder as he angled himself in front of her, leaving Wufei floundering. Sally was laughing over Duo’s shoulder at the look on Wufei’s face, but I didn’t leave him hanging.
I grabbed Wufei’s hand and turned by back to him, leaning up against his chest. I moved a bit provocatively, snaking my spine and hips, but not fully rubbing up against him, knowing how uncomfortable he would be with that in a normal situation. He completely tensed up and leaned over my shoulder to say to me: “I’m not really comfortable with this.”
“Just relax, I don’t bite,” I said back to him, keeping my voice slightly raised. He stayed rigid. I grabbed his other hand and raised them both in the air. “Come on,” I tried again. “It’s just a dance.”
He became slightly less rigid, but his discomfort still pouring off of him. We danced silently for a few moments before he finally spoke up again. “I know you, don’t I?”
I looked at him from the corner of my eyes and he had a grimace on his face. I chuckled and nodded. “We only see each other every day,” I informed him. “I would have thought you’d remember me,” I sighed and pouted my lips.
“I do,” he insisted, getting a little more relaxed and moving more fluidly. “I just can’t place you.” He paused thinking. “Besides, everyone is in costume, you probably look a lot different at the office.” He grinned slightly, thinking he’d won on that point.
I laughed, tipping forward slightly with the force of it. “You wouldn’t believe how different!” I emphasized, decided that it was time to get the reaction I was looking for. I spun around, staring him straight in the eyes. He looked intently at me for a moment, before a look of complete uncertainty settled over his features. So I smirked at him and said in my normal voice, “Come on Wufei, don’t you recognize me?”
He gasped, jumping backward, obvious horror etched across his face, which only made me laugh again. Duo and Sally hadn’t gone far so they were laughing too, watching the entire exchange. He turned to look at them, then back to me, before “Heero?” he whispered, that shocked look still in place. I smirked at him, then flung my arms around his neck. He tensed up on me again, but I whispered in his ear, “Relax. Oh, and keep this to yourself, I’m not done having fun with this.” I sashayed over to Duo, wrapping my arms around his shoulders, the two of us smirking at Wufei while we took up where we had left off in our dance. Sally went back over to Wufei who still had a look of astonishment on his face. I raised my brow at him and he nodded back to me.
On to the next victim.
Author\'s note: I hope to get the next two chapters up fairly quickly but with finals coming up - no promises. Feedback is loved!
