Six Months Down the Road
Chapter 8: Six Months Down the Road
Vegeta had resumed his work as a warrior of the Alliance. He had done many missions working for the Argent Crusade, the Kirin Tor, the Knights of the Ebon Blade, and the Wyrmrest Accord. He had not killed a Horde since he had met his little elf. And he had not seen or heard about her in over six months. Today he found himself wandering through Sholazar Basin. He had gotten bored of his missions and was taking a break from the constant drama of Northrend. He came to a lake with a waterfall. He hadn’t had anything to drink since he had left Dalaran hours before. He decided to stop for a drink.
He knelt at the waters edge after killing a few vipers that wanted to ruin his drink. He took a good handful of water and drank it in. He heard a rustle not far from him. He heard what sounded like pained groans. The sounds were female. He pushed his way through the jungle foliage and was met with a very interesting sight. There fully clothed, was a shadow priestess, an elf, sitting on a rock underneath the waterfall. His eyes widened when he saw that she was VERY pregnant. She looked as though she could burst any moment. He nearly jumped when she let out a very loud groan and clenched her hand on her belly. She looked as though she were in a lot of pain. It dawned on Vegeta that the poor thing must be in labor. He looked around. There was no one around, what on Azeroth could she have been thinking, being so far along and all alone out here?
Vegeta slowly walked towards the waters edge. “Woman, do you need help?” Her eyes were tightly clenched. She started slightly but did not open her eyes. “What do you think asshole?! Do I look like I’m having fun?!” Her voice was laced with the thick shadow magic around her, but somehow her voice was familiar. He snorted. “Well if you’re going to be rude, I see no reason to help you.” He could see angry tears spilling from her eyes. Her eyes shot open to reveal thick shadow magic spilling from them and a bright green glow behind the black energy. Dear god she was a blood elf. Upon opening her eyes however the angry aura around her seemed to dissipate and she looked at him in shock. “Dear Azshara…” Vegeta looked at her confused for a moment and was met with a very nasty surprise when she dropped her shadow form.
He was met with sky blue hair and glowing blue-green eyes. He nearly fell backwards. It was her…underneath a waterfall…trying to give birth. He stalked into the water, until he was face to face with her. “What in the hell is wrong with you woman?! Do you want to die out here?!” She just stared at him completely shocked. She didn’t know what to say. “Well?! Where is that smart ass attitude I was getting just a second ago?!” Next thing Vegeta knew he was covering his sensitive ears as a scream of pain washed over the woman. Her contractions were very close together. How long had she been out here alone? She looked up at him pleading. “Help me…”
Vegeta sighed. He needed to get her someplace safe and dry. At this rate she and the child would not survive. She could get sick from the water or a wild beast would catch her in her vulnerable state and kill her. Vegeta reached down and carefully tucked his arm under her knees and around her back. Bulma immediately wrapped her arms around his neck as he lifted her out of the cold water. Vegeta quickly got her out of the water and whistled for his mount. He would take her to the Oracle village. They wouldn’t be much help but at least she could get into some dry clothes and have a bed to lie in. Bulma cried out as another contraction wracked her body. Vegeta swallowed hard. Could he get her there in time? A large hippogryph came flying down and landed. Vegeta pushed her onto the creature climbing up behind her and the beast shot into the air at lightning speeds.
They arrived at the Oracle village within only a few short minutes. Vegeta wasn’t terribly fond of the slimy creatures but they had their uses. He cringed realizing he’d have to deliver the baby. The Oracles were egg layers, they would have no clue what to do. They lead him into a private tree hut and found a nightgown for Bulma. Thankfully it was designed for female trolls so it was slightly big on her. He quickly got her out of her wet clothes and laid her in the bed. She was very weak… He ordered the slimy creatures to give them some privacy and shut the door behind them. He had checked her and despite how close her contractions were she still needed to dilate a little more. He walked over and sat next to her on the bed. He placed a hand on her cheek. She looked up at him, sweat gleaming on her forehead. “Of all the people to find me like that it would be you…”
Vegeta glared at her angrily. “And what if I hadn’t found you?! What if no one had found you?! You could have been left out there to deliver your child all by yourself and possibly die during the birthing OR get killed by some wild animal while you were weak and unable to protect yourself! What could you possibly have been thinking being out there all by yourself in your condition?!” Bulma couldn’t help but smile at his concern. “I was on a mission. It was an easy one, just had to collect a few ‘shinies’ for the Oracles here for their offerings. I can handle the creatures out here easy enough…” She paused to work her way through a contraction. “I had made my way to the river and saw the waterfall. I haven’t had a bath in weeks being out here in the basin so I thought I’d run some water through my hair at least. I had gotten in the water and was rinsing my hair out when my water broke…I figured I had plenty of time to get back to the village so I tried to finish up. But the contractions started coming almost immediately. I couldn’t walk so I pulled myself onto that rock and I had dropped my whistle to call my mount…”
Vegeta sighed. “You shouldn’t have been on any missions…period. You’re very foolish.” He pushed a strand of hair out of her face. “I had better check you…” He lifted the blanket so he could check her dilation. “How do you know how to do this?” He chuckled. “I’ve had to deliver more babies than you’d ever imagine. My home on Teldressil is sacred among night elves. It is considered a blessing to deliver inside that cottage. It is believed that Malfurion himself blesses the birth. It being my home and my status, it is only proper I deliver the babies and bless the birth in Malfurion’s place.” He pushed himself up and looked at her. “You’re ready.”
Bulma swallowed and nodded. He helped her position her legs. “Alright when I tell you to I want you to push understand?” She nodded. Vegeta seemed to be waiting. Just as Bulma was wracked with pain from another contraction Vegeta shouted. “Push!!” Taken by surprise Bulma screamed in pain and started pushing for all she was worth. After about 10 seconds she stopped and took a breather. Vegeta waited again. “Its nice to see you didn’t miss me too much huh? Moved on pretty fast.” Bulma was shocked at the hurt hidden in his voice and extremely angry at his insinuation. She laughed bitterly. “You sir are a complete and total fool…” Once again she was taken by surprise at Vegeta’s order to push just as she was hit by a contraction. She stopped, feeling as though she was making no progress. They had been at it for over half an hour now. “What do you mean by calling me a fool?” Bulma glared daggers at him. “You’ve only been gone six months…” With that she pulled the side of her gown aside the reveal the very bite mark he had left in her skin.
Vegeta looked at the mark and let her words sink in. He lost his concentration and had to hurriedly tell her to push as a contraction hit her. His mind was reeling as her words continued to run through his head. The baby was…his? Vegeta looked up at her. “Alright one more good push and this will all be over.” She nodded in determination and when he told her to push, she pushed will all the force she could. She felt a release as the head pushed through and finally all the pressure was gone as the shoulders made their way through. Vegeta grabbed the baby and pulled it the rest of the way. The baby started screeching immediately. Vegeta used a towel to clean it off and determined it was a boy. He had lavender colored hair, misty green-blue eyes, and his skin was a strange ripple of violet and peach. His ears came to distinctive sharp points becoming of a night elf…
Vegeta swaddled him in a blanket after cutting the cord, looking down at him. He looked up at Bulma questioningly. “He’s mine?…” Bulma opened her eyes slightly, having dozed off. “Of course he is you idiot…” A small tear escaped her, rolling down her cheek. “I was only entering my third moon when they found us…I had been waiting to tell you, but after you were captured I figured it was best if you didn’t know…” Vegeta walked over and sat down next to her on the bed. He handed the boy to her so she could feed him. He ran his hand through his hair and looked back at her. “You should have told me…I’d have never left without you if I had known. Why didn’t you terminate? Haven’t your parents disowned you by now? Pregnant by a Night Elf who raped you…and a shadow priest to top it off?”
Bulma smiled at him bitterly as she fed the baby. “You’re right. My father hates me…I haven’t spoken to him since I came back from Ratchet that day. We had a huge argument about me terminating the pregnancy. He was almost willing to forgive me a few months ago, trying to convince me to at least give the baby up for adoption. Then he found out I was going into the shadow practice…We haven’t spoken since. I still speak to my mother every now and again, I’m supposed to let her know when I have the baby so she can see him…Even she didn’t want to be there for the birth…” Bulma felt an angry tear slip down her cheek. “Would you believe...Kael'thalas insisted I come live with him...wanted me to train in the arcane arts. I'm no fool. He wanted the baby. To train him as an apprentice like my brother had been. You know I found out my brother serves the Lich King now...”
Vegeta stared at her listening to her story. Seeing her feeding the newborn was unreal to him. He couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that the boy suckling on her was his. He had a son...an heir. He was brought out of his thoughts when the woman cleared her throat to get his attention. He looked up to see her staring at him. “Vegeta...” Hearing his name on her lips made his stomach do a strange sort of flip. “Would you...would you name him?” Vegeta was surprised by her question. “Why?” Bulma's face was red slightly. “It just seems right for you to name him...after all its' my fault you didn't know I was pregnant...its' only fair you get to name him. Please?”
Vegeta seemed to think for a moment. “Trunks...for my mother. She used to have a garden that she tended to for hours when my father was away at war. One rare breed of flower she had was called a Trunks Lily. It was called that because the stems were very thick like a tree trunk. It was an incredibly large flower and seemed to have a mind of its own. When I was a baby some days she would put me to sleep and lay me in the blossom while she tended her garden.”(I know lame but I couldn't think of anything better >_<) Bulma was very touched by his story. She knew better than to say anything. It would only ruin the moment. She looked down at the lavender haired boy and smiled. “Well hello Trunks. Glad to finally meet you.”
Bulma laid her hand on the boy's cheek. He was so beautiful. A perfect combination of her an Vegeta. He had his father's hard face but her exotic colors. His skin was a beautiful mesh of both their skin tones. The most astonishing feature was his eyes. One eye was a bright glowing gold of the ancient night elves and the other was the eerie green glow of the mana starved blood elves. Bulma couldn't help the happy tears that sprang from her eyes. “He's so beautiful...I just wish my parents could see passed his heritage...people managed to look past my father's...he's such a hypocrite.”
Vegeta was at a loss of what to say. He felt so strange seeing her again. Seeing his child in her arms...seeing him through her eyes. She loved the boy, despite how he came about...despite what HE had done to her. Her words to him on the ship still rang in his mind since the day they had gone their separate ways. Her heard her whisper the same words to the tiny boy in her arms. “O fudo osa little one...” Vegeta's stomach clenched again. He was trying not to speak much. He wasn't sure where to go from here. Would she want to stay with him? Would she want to go back home? He wasn't even sure what he wanted. “Woman...we have things we must discuss.”
Bulma smiled without looking at him. She just couldn't take her eyes off Trunks. “I know Vegeta...but not now. I'm exhausted.” She looked up at him. “Would you like to hold your son?” Vegeta was taken back. The child was so small and fragile. His son...the sound of that made him feel sick to his stomach...but not in an unpleasant way. Bulma looked at him with a raised brow. “You sure to be thinking about a lot.” She held the boy out to him. Vegeta very carefully took the child from her. He had delivered many babies but he had never gone so far as to hold one for longer than necessary. He made sure to support the boy's head in the crook of his elbow. His eyes were very overwhelming when you first looked at them. It was as if he was looking into your soul.
Vegeta took the time to call some of the Oracles inside to help clean up the room and get Bulma some clean clothes and sheets for her bed. Vegeta shuttered when they asked if they could keep the placenta. Typical reptiles to say the least. The village elder even came in and blessed Trunks with an Oracle ritual and assured Bulma they would offer a few shinies to the god's for his safety and well-being. Bulma thanked them for their hospitality and generosity. It wasn't long before they were alone again. Trunks had fallen asleep in Vegeta's arms. The Oracles had been nice enough to bring in a make shift bed for the baby. It was a simple fruit basket but it would do in a pinch. Vegeta laid the sleeping child in the basket before sitting down on the edge of the bed again.
Bulma had fallen asleep before the boy had. She was truly exhausted. He could understand. He had delivered enough babies to know that it was a very taxing process. Vegeta reached up and pushed a stray hair out of her face. He would let her sleep for now. She deserved it. She wouldn't get to sleep long as it were. He didn't know about blood elves but night elf babies were typically very needy. They only slept for maybe an hour at a time and had to be fed every 1-2 hours. She was in for a rude awakening...
