I have to give them credit, as angry as Duo was and as... hurt as Wufei was, both set their issues aside for the night and I was immensely grateful. Heero really wasn't feeling as well as he pretended to, but he hid it as best as he could and I allowed it. There would come a time when he couldn't hide anything. And I dread it.

Duo sat back from his plate. “Man that was good.”
Heero smirked at the empty plate that had been full not five minutes earlier. “Not that you should know. Did you even bother chewing it?”
He grinned. “Nope, it's quicker if it goes down whole,” he joked.
Quatre shuddered. “I hate to think of the condition your digestive track must be in.” His eyes fell to Ronnie's plate and he gaped. “Okay, Duo I'm used to, but that's just ridiculous.”
Duo followed the blond's gaze and nodded, amusement in his eyes. “You ate enough for two.” She started and her cheeks turned pink. All eating stopped. “Ronnie? Are you eating for two?”
She huffed. “Well, crap. I was gonna wait till Trowa was here to tell y'all, but, yes, I'm pregnant.”
Quatre quickly gaged her expression. The girl hadn't seemed the type to want children. “Are you happy about it?”
She chuckled. “When I first suspected it I was about ready to castrate him.” Duo grunted a laugh as she continued. “But the more I thought about it,” her face became wistful. “The idea of a little Trowa running around sounds cute.”
“The idea of a little Ronnie running around sounds frightening,” Wufei quipped, grinning to show her he was joking.
“Well, congratulations,” Quatre beamed. “How did Trowa take the news?”
“He's a little shell shocked. I told him right before he left, so he's probably passed out on the floor of the terminal right now.”

Preventers Harding and Williams stared down at the prone form of Barton and exchanged wide-eyed glances. “Did he say what I think he did?”
“Depends. Did you hear something about diapers?”
******
“Um, Commander?”
“Yes?”
“Wasn't Agent Yuy supposed to be on leave?”
She raised an eyebrow. “Yes.”
“He's in his office.”
Une pushed from her chair and went down to said office, entering without knocking. Blue eyes turned to her; he was somewhat pale and, if she wasn't mistaken, a tad thinner. “What are you doing here?”
“I work here.”
“You're on sick leave.”
“We agreed I would take off the first week to see how I handled it. I won't ask for any missions, but I can do planning and investigations.”
“What about your treatments?”
“I'm taking them before I come.”
She studied him a moment. “I want you on half-days.”
“But-”
“I will not risk your health, Yuy.”
He turned from his computer and leaned his elbows on the table. “My health is already at risk, in case you haven't noticed, J made sure of that. All I can do is make the best of the time I have left.” Some of the heat left his eyes and his brows drew together. “Une, I need to be doing something. I can't just sit at the house all day. I promise, if I need to leave, I will. If I'm not up to coming in, I won't.”
She sat in the chair across from his desk. “Does Winner know you're here?”
He grimaced. “Not technically, no.”
“Technically?”
“I left a note, but he's not home so he hasn't seen it yet.”
“His staff would have called him.”
He shrugged. “I snuck out.”
She rolled her eyes. “Why am I not surprised? Why didn't you just tell Winner you were coming no matter what? You're usually good at bullying people. When he finds out you're not there he'll panic.”
She raised a brow as his face tinged pink and he looked to the side, mumbling under his breath. “What was that?”
“We had a... discussion about it last night.”
Discussion? This was getting interesting. “You fought with Winner?”
He squirmed in the chair. “No, we talked ardently with opposing views.”
Both eyebrows raised. The sight of Heero Yuy squirming with a faint blush on his cheeks as he claimed he'd had a non-argument with Winner was interesting. There was something going on and, contrary to popular belief, Une kept tabs on the office gossip.
“What's going on?”
“My personal life is none of your business.”
“Making sure one of my top agents is well taken care of is my business, though.”
“Quatre is taking very good care of me.” A flash of something ran through his eyes and his blush darkened further.
Her jaw dropped as she put two and two together. “You and Winner are together?”
“Um...”
“How long has this been going on?”
Heero raised an eyebrow. Was there a... yep, that was a hint of fan girl delight in her eyes. He sighed. It was inevitable for the truth not to get out with Duo and Ronnie knowing, so he figured there was no point in hiding it. “Just this passed week.”
She found that a little sad, wishing the two had more time together. She squelched the thought. There was a chance Yuy would survive.
“Half-days, if you feel up to taking anything home, that's fine.” She stood and made her way to the door.
“No one knows, do they?”
She glanced back. “About your health?” He nodded. “Outside of me and Sally, only those you've told.”
“All right.” He turned back to his work only to be interrupted five minutes later.
“Should you be here?”
He glanced to Duo. “I'm fine.”
Duo held up his hands to stall any argument. “Okay, just asking. I can't imagine the fight you and Quat musta had over this.”
Heero said nothing. Duo stared at him. Heero dropped his eyes. Duo dropped his jaw. Heero's cell rang and he jumped, grimacing as he saw the number on the ID. Duo smirked.
“He's gonna rip you a new one.”
Cold blue eyes glared at him as Heero answered the phone. “Hey.”
“Where are you? Nancy and Marty are frantic!”
“I'm at work.”
Quatre groaned. “I thought we decided that was a bad idea.”
“No, you decided it was a bad idea. Weir said it was all right if I felt okay. And I do, Quatre. I'm only working half a day.” He turned in his chair so his back was to Duo. “I need this. Try to understand.”
Quatre was silent for a long time and then he sighed. “All right. I'm sorry for trying to push you, I'm just worried.”
“I know, I'll be fine.”
“Okay. Love you.”
Heero smiled softly. “See you when I get home.”
“Okay.”
He hung up and turned back to Duo. “He understands.”
Duo understood, too, but just because you understood why someone did something, it didn't mean you stopped worrying. “If you need anything, let me know.”
Heero nodded shortly and Duo stepped out of the room, pausing as he saw Wufei talking with Ronnie at the end of the hall. Onyx eyes were crinkled with a smile as they spoke and Duo leaned against the wall. He missed that soft smile. Missed it being directed at him. He wanted to run down the hall and beg Wufei to make things right. But at the same time, he wouldn't have minded punching him either.
He had the right, didn't he? He'd told Wufei to stay away from the man, but Wufei just brushed off his warnings. His lover never took anything he said seriously. Well, nothing outside of work, at least. For some reason, he trusted Duo's opinion on the job, but not in their personal life.
He pulled from his thoughts to find Wufei watching him, hope clear in his eyes. Before Duo could decide how to respond, a crash behind him had him running back to Heero's office. He didn't see Heero at first, but he heard vomiting from the other side of the desk and moved around it.
Heero was on his knees, emptying his stomach into a trash can. His chair overturning as he scrambled for the can had caused the crash. Wufei and Ronnie ran in. She took one look at the situation and ran back out. Wufei knelt on the other side of Heero after righting the chair. The vomiting lessened to dry heaves and, after he settled, Wufei and Duo lifted him to the chair. His eyes were squeezed shut as he took slow breaths.
“You all right?” Duo asked softly.
He nodded.
“Are you sure you should be doing this?”
He opened his eyes and looked to Wufei. “I have to,” he whispered.
Fine, black brows drew together. “Heero-”
“I'll be all right once the nausea passes.”
Ronnie returned to the room with a glass of water and a wet paper towel. He rinsed his mouth, spitting into the trash can before she whisked it away to dump and clean it.
“If you have to do this, why not move the chemo to the end of the day?”
He shook his head. “Then I'll be dreading it all day and won't get anything done.”
Duo sighed. What could he say to that? “All right.”
Ronnie returned and set the clean can down before looking to Heero. “Better?”
“Some. Thanks.”
She smiled softly. “I know what it feels like for your stomach to rebel on a regular basis.”
“Party at Yuy's? Why weren't we invited?”
They turned to see Zechs and Noin in the doorway. The blond man smiled. “You look like you got ran over. That must have been one heck of a bug.”
“You've no idea,” he groused. “But Une's letting me back on half-days.”
“Was it that bad?” Noin asked, concern coming to her face. “We thought it was the flu.”
He firmly held his expression neutral. “It wasn't... exactly the flu. But I'm fine.”
Zechs eyes narrowed and he moved further into the room, closing the door behind Noin. “What was it then?”
“None of your business.”
“Heero,” Ronnie chastised gently, “everyone's gonna find out sooner or later. Zechs and Noin won't tell anyone.”
Noin's concern had deepened to worry. “What's wrong with you?”
He ground his teeth, glaring at Ronnie. But his glare didn't last long and his face paled. He swallowed and Wufei snatched the can again.
Zechs and Noin stared as he heaved a small amount of water. Duo rubbed his shoulders, glancing to them. “It's the chemo.”
“Duo,” Heero warned weakly in a gasping breath.
Zechs' jaw dropped. “You have cancer?”
He sat back in his chair and drained what was left of the water. “Yeah.” He stared down at the empty glass in his hands.
“What kind?”
Heero bit his lip and Wufei cleared his throat. “Leukemia.”
“How long have you known?”
He took a breath. “I knew they suspected it three weeks ago, we found out for sure two Friday's ago. Started chemo the next Saturday.”
Noin took in their grave expressions and the fact that Heero wouldn't raise his eyes. “We'll keep it to ourselves. Let us know if you need anything.”
She pulled Zechs out into the hall. “Oh shit,” she whispered.
“What?”
“It's bad.”
He nodded. “I know.”
She bit her lip. “Zechs, I've seen those boys angry, frustrated, happy, bored... I've seen them with every emotion, but never fear.” She pointed at the door. “And they are terrified. I can only think of one reason for that.”
He took a breath and released it slowly. “They don't think he's going to make it.”
“He will!”
They turned to see Quatre Winner nearing them and aiming for Heero's office. “He's not going to die,” the blond hissed before disappearing into the room.
They exchanged glances. Maybe with Winner at the helm he did stand a chance.
