::: Honor :::
It had been three months since Frieza brought Renjiamori onto his ship. Frieza decided to give Renjiamori his own living space before he put him with a group of other warriors. Dodoria was to report on how his assimilation into Frieza's private army went. It was an honor to be amongst those traveling with the tyrant, (those who stayed close to him were less likely to be killed by him) but Renjiamori spent most of his time alone when he wasn't involved in missions and the mischievous acts of his fellow "comrades."
Quiet but with intelligence that couldn't be hidden, Renjiamori became a popular subject among the ship. The crew heard rumors that his powers were very different from the majority of Frieza's choice men, but none knew exactly what his powers were. He only went on missions with Dodoria or Zarbon.
Even though he tried not to, Prince Vegeta noticed himself staring at the older man whenever he saw him amongst the soldiers. He didn't think much of it, but he still avoided talking to him at all costs. He found him interesting, he supposed, but he could find no reason to talk to him. Renjiamori would often catch Vegeta looking and in turn he gave a curt nod. Each time Vegeta looked away, fearful of the other man coming up to him because of it, but each time Renjiamori decided not to pursue him.
One night Rejiamori saw Vegeta in the training rooms, Zarbon was watching his progress. Something brought Renjiamori closer to the screen and before he realized it, he was standing next to Zarbon, his gaze bent wholly on Vegeta's fighting form.
Zarbon turned to him and asked him why he was there. He answered, "I've never seen him fight," still looking at the monitor, "I can't believe how powerful he is."
Zarbon chuckled and smirked handsomely, his golden eyes gleaming as he said, "He's strong, yes, but not invincible, even if he may like to think it."
Renjiamori realized that he could be punished for loitering too long where he wasn't wanted, so he bowed and stole himself away quickly, turning back one more time to look at Vegeta as he tore through his enemies mercilessly.
It wasn't even a week that went by before he decided that he would finally try to talk to the younger man. He bought his time, waiting for Vegeta to return from a mission, and when he did, he cornered him as he emerged from the healing tanks. He knew of no other way: it would be a grievous mistake to seek him out in front of others.
"What are you doing here?" Vegeta growled as the tank opened up, "Who do you think you are coming in here like this?" Renjiamori held a blank stare impressively and Vegeta could only wonder what he was thinking. He added quickly, not giving him the chance to explain as he stated, "I'm naked and you're just staring at me. Have some decency and hand me those those clothes! I don't need your assistance with anything else." Vegeta saw that Renjiamori's eyes, though, were not threatening, nor was the look in them that of lust or anything predatory.
"Yes," Renjiamori smiled, as he grabbed the training suit set out for the prince and handed it to him, "I hadn't thought about the fact that you'd be naked, still, I've seen you like this before. You have nothing to be embarrassed about."
Vegeta did blush, though, and he snatched the clothes from his hand and put them on as quickly as possible. He demanded, "So you have something to say to me, then, is that why you're here?"
Renjiamori didn't speak immediately. He didn't know what he'd planned on saying exactly, he just wanted to talk, so he answered with, "I've been wanting to acknowledge you."
Vegeta finished putting on his gloves as he asked, "What exactly does that mean?"
Renjiamori was a more tactical speaker than Vegeta knew, and it would be years before he started to understand Renjiamori's ways of conversing, so when he finally did answer, Vegeta only felt more obliged to respond as he listened to him say, "We have a prior knowledge of one another, and I've seen you around on multiple occasions, as I'm sure you've seen me. I didn't want you to think I was deliberately ignoring you."
Vegeta scoffed, "What if I had been ignoring you?"
Renjiamori still held a motionless face as he answered, "I don't think we could avoid one another if we wanted to, and besides, I'm sure I'm not of that much importance to you. We barely know each other."
Vegeta pondered what he could mean suspiciously, but said nothing in reply.
Renjiamori changed the subject, "I'm sure you're hungry."
"And?" Vegeta bit back, not knowing how else to respond.
Renjiamori smiled, "I'll leave you to get something to eat. I'll be around whenever you decide you have something to say."
Vegeta watched as Renjiamori went quietly out the door but his eyes seemed to linger on his long after he had turned away and left the room. Vegeta wouldn't realize until much later that he was feeling things he'd never felt before, and he didn't know how to handle those emotions, much less what to call them or think about them.
Renjiamori was so diverting to Vegeta and he couldn't understand why. His eyes were sad and beautiful and in them Vegeta perceived a strength far greater than most men. His posture is impeccable and his manner, from what Vegeta saw, was very commendable. He stands his ground and talks some, but never says too much. Vegeta found himself attracted to the way he has with words and the way he seemed intangible, like a vision or a ghost. He always remained focused on his training, but could spare a moment or two in thought to Renjiamori in his spare time.
It's a month later when Vegeta finally approaches Renjiamori, utterly unable to help himself. He waited until Nappa and Raditz had gone onto another side of the ship for a drink before going out in his search. He found Renjiamori in one of the training rooms he figured he'd be in. He watched him walking around by himself before he silently entered.
He come closer to him without being noticed and startled him out of his thoughts as he announced his presence, asking, "What is this room for exactly?"
Renjiamori looked at him for a while, all previous concentration fleeting from his face. Finally he answers, simply, "Simulation."
Vegeta walked closer to him proudly and didn't respond hoping that maybe he'd explain himself so he wouldn't have to admit he'd never actually been in this room before.
Renjiamori said, "It's the only place on the ship I can practice my skills."
"What are your skills?" Vegeta tried to sound distant, like he was asking more out of boredom than out of intrigue.
Renjiamori didn't notice in his own distraction. He didn't exactly want to talk about it but he had his chance to speak to Prince Vegeta now and he didn't want to let it go. He admitted, "I manipulate atoms at a basic level. I can't manipulate anything that's living, but I can move the natural forces in worlds at my will. Forces like rock, wind, water, air, fire, and sometimes, energy."
Vegeta was surprised by what he heard to say the least, but he hid it as best as he could.
Renjiamori turned away from him and thought better of saying anything else, lest he reveal a secret.
Finally, in order to not seem "silently impressed," Vegeta asked, mockingly, "Is Frieza finding you useful?"
Renjiamori frowned and retorted, a sour note in his voice, "Should I care?"
Vegeta smirked and in his arrogance he revealed, "That depends on how afraid of him you are." Renjiamori looked at him strangely, but before he could speak Vegeta said, "Frieza seems to like you, whatever you're doing for him. You're the least of his worries, though. Remember that."
Renjiamori thought of a million things to say, but went with the number million and one thing he thought of, saying, "You're a very busy fighter. I've never seen more determination in another. Do you enjoy your work?"
"Yes," Vegeta smirked.
Renjiamori, though, saw a tell in him. He wasn't sure how he knew that Vegeta was lying, but something in him told him that Vegeta thought of nothing but his own disposition- his personal struggle and anger- Renjiamori knew he used everything in his life to fuel it. The older man revealed, honestly, "I would be lying if I said the same, but I am new to this life."
Vegeta was put off by his response but didn't say anything immediately.
Both men shared challenging looks but kept silent for long moments. Renjiamori refused to let it end and instead of shutting down the conversation he offered smoothly, "I was thinking of going back to my quarters for a drink after my training. I'll go on ahead and end it now if you're interested in joining me."
Vegeta's heart pounded but he barely noticed it. He shrugged nonchalantly, and said, "Fine, I've nothing else to do."
After a silent walk to Renjiamori's rooms in the giant ship they arrived at his door. As they entered, Vegeta found himself explaining without being provoked, "I walked by and I saw your name on the training card. I didn't expect you to stop completely when I interrupted you."
Renjiamori laughed a little to himself, heading straight for the liquor on the counter. He said, "I'm glad you did, I wasn't getting much done, anyways."
Vegeta "humphed" and Renjiamori handed him a drink as soon as he made the first one, then he made one for himself.
Renjiamori ignored Vegeta's bad manners at not having thanked him and instead only said, "Every day is certainly new."
Vegeta felt embarrassed by his gaze, confused by everything he said, and entranced by what was to come next all at the same time. He replied, quieter than he'd meant to, "Good." If Renjiamori knew what he meant by that Vegeta would be surprised because he didn't know why he'd said it himself.
Renjiamori drew closer to him by the moment and, after what seemed like an hour, he said, "We could play a game, if you're anxious."
"What makes you think I'm anxious?" Vegeta said, somewhat angrily, and somewhat playfully, not realizing he was revealing his guilt.
Renjiamori said, "I want to relax right now, myself, don't you? I don't care what we do, but I don't know what type of a mood you're in so I'm trying to find out."
Mood? Vegeta wondered to himself. Again, the intensity of Renjiamori's smoldering forest-green eyes were more alluring than anything else, and Vegeta found himself more and more interested in him than he'd first realized. He didn't feel uncomfortable with his gaze so intent on him, instead he couldn't help but stare back, wondering what to do next. Finally he snapped out of his trance and said, "I don't care what we do."
Renjiamori suddenly realized that they had closed most of the distance to one another Vegeta first walked into his room, now they were merely inches apart, staring into one another's eyes, quiet and confused, but at the same time aware and resolute. After standing in silence for too long Vegeta turned away from him and began to explore his surroundings. After a few more slow minutes Vegeta insisted he needed to go and left quickly, setting down his untouched drink. Renjiamori lost his opportunity that night and he wouldn't find another one for another three months.
Chance finally came. Vegeta was alone and would be for three shifts. (Each "shift" is roughly a "day." Every time the men go on a mission, it's accounted for by the amount of days it will take up- some take one, others may take longer.) Raditz and Nappa were on a mission of their own that Vegeta deemed beneath him. He had planned on picking another purge while they were gone.
He was looking through the options when Renjiamori walked in on him. Vegeta glanced up and watched him take longs strides his way. He looked back down, intending to not allow for a full conversation with him, especially after how awkwardly he'd run out on him before.
Renjiamori asked quietly, looking over Vegeta's shoulder from a distance, "Is it ever enough?"
Vegeta cursed himself as he couldn't help but ask, "What?" and he looked up from the screens at him. This time he noticed that Renjiamori was frowning a little.
Renjiamori pointed to what Vegeta was looking at, the logs of all of Frieza's planned conquers, and he said, "This fighting- Frieza's empire- Will it ever be enough?"
Vegeta answered, "No one agrees with Frieza's ever-growing empire, but no one speaks of it except for you. All of the men just do what they're told because for now they have no choice."
"So... you don't like it, either?"
"What? Killing off thousands of races and destroying planets just to sell them?" He smirked, "Maybe I do."
Renjiamori didn't necessarily believe his claim but he wanted hear what he would say of his point of view, so he asked, "Are you not just doing what you're told like everyone else?"
Vegeta answered, "If Frieza wasn't the tyrant of these worlds, someone else would be."
"Someone... like you?"
Vegeta laughed, still smirking, and replied, "Why not? I was born to rule, after all, why just rule one people when you can rule thousands?"
"I was born to rule, too, but I can't say I agree with you."
Vegeta stopped smirking and stared at him. He thought of things to say but he couldn't decide what he wanted to say first since he wasn't sure what Renjiamori meant.
Renjiamori shifted his weight on his feet, then tilted his chin up and licked his lips before saying, "There's more to ruling than having everyone fear you. Fear is not the foundation of a solid kingdom."
Vegeta replied, "When there is a man with power there follows the people in fear. It's an inevitable part of leadership."
"But true leadership cannot exist on fear alone, it requires respect from one's subjects, and their fear will then be transformed into something better; reverence," Renjiamori's eyes shone keenly as he added, "Otherwise strong men like you may one day decide to overthrow a corrupt ruler."
Vegeta almost smiled. He said, quietly but sternly, "Yes, so I decided long ago that I will not waste my time wondering how things might have been. I'm going to do something about the things that happened, so that it can never happen again." He grew suddenly surprised at himself for opening up so much in that moment and looked away.
He heard Renjiamori answer softly, "I often think to myself, 'What now?' since I'm still here."
It dawned on Vegeta that Renjiamori was opening up to him for a reason. He wasn't just talking to him to pass the time, he genuinely wanted to hear what Vegeta had to say because Vegeta went through the exact same thing, and although Renjiamori is older, Vegeta has dealt with this hurt for much longer.
The wound is still fresh in Renjiamori's heart, and as he spoke to Vegeta, he realized it would get better, but it would never fully heal. Accepting that truth would be hard, but necessary. He respected the younger Prince but couldn't bring himself to tell him.
Vegeta found himself saying, "There will come a time when all of this will change, and Frieza will become a thing of the past."
Renjiamori smiled sadly at him.
Vegeta added, a different note in his voice as he changed the subject in renewed confidence, "I've been training all day. I'm going to spend the rest of the night relaxing, especially since I don't have to deal with Raditz and Nappa for a little while..."
Renjiamori asked, leaning closer, "Are you against my company for the night?"
"No," Vegeta let slip before he could change his mind. If he had been less forward and confident, Vegeta might have turned him down, but he couldn't- he didn't want to.
"Okay," Renmjiamori released a breath he was holding in and said, "I'll follow you."
Vegeta's heart beat wildly as they walked the distance from their current location to his quarters. Renjiamori remembered every turn and in the end covering the distance seemed to take no time at all. They entered the Saiyan's rooms and Vegeta quickly went to grab something for them to drink, as Renjiamori had done for him. Renjiamori thanked him and for a while they only drank small sips of mixed liquors and were both discontent in the silence.
Vegeta stared at Renjiamori out of the corner of his eyes and Renjiamori pretended not to notice. Finally Vegeta broke the silence, turning to him as he said, "You'd be better off going this journey alone, you know." Renjiamori looked at him and Vegeta figured he didn't know what he meant, so he explained, "There are no allies on this ship. No one will save your life in the end, and if asked of them, they would try to kill you for any reason."
"Do you live with constant fear, then?" Renjiamori's deep voice seemed to be filled with many emotions at once.
"No," Vegeta said, "I live with pure adrenaline."
Renjiamori pursed his lips before saying, "I should hope to live with knowledge and wisdom over anything else, should I have to make a choice."
Vegeta told him, "You have to make a choice."
"Then it has already been decided," said Renjiamori firmly, "but that does not answer all of my questions." He focused his eyes on Vegeta's as he took another drink and asked, "What will become of us if our professions are limited to obligations and not choices?" Vegeta didn't have an answer, so Renjiamori went on to add, "I refuse to stop being who I am while accomplishing what they want from me."
"What do you mean?" Vegeta wondered.
Renjiamori replied, "If I want to seek out companionship I will. If I want to acquire a hobby of some kind I'm going to do it. I do not see my needs or desires interfering with Frieza's plans."
Vegeta disagreed with him but didn't say so. Renjiamori slowly started to take a few steps towards Vegeta, closing the distance efficiently. He put his free hand up, to warn off all bad intentions as he leaned further. He said, "I cannot follow the stars in hopes of finding an adequate road to the Heavens for my dwelling is on the planets, therefore I must travel the whatever ground there is before me, first."
Vegeta, standing fixed in his shock at Renjiamori, was now clear on what he wanted, and asked, breathily, "What are you doing?"
"I'm going to kiss you," he answered, and grabbed his chin, pressing their lips together firmly. Vegeta held his drink in one hand and, surprised by himself, he grabbed onto the back of Renjiamori's head, fisting his hair in his other hand and he took in his scent and this new sensation. Renjiamori wrapped his other arm around Vegeta and let go of his chin to grab onto the back of his neck as their mouths opened and their tongues played for the first time. It was all passion and impulse. Vegeta growled into the kiss and for a moment Renjiamori stopped, unsure of what that meant, but when he looked into Vegeta's eyes he saw many emotions he'd never seen before, but anger wasn't one of them. He quickly put his lips where they had been before, and kissed him even more fervently. After a while Vegeta bit his bottom lip gently and pulled away.
They stared at one another, both taking another drink, neither knowing what to do next.
"Why did you do that?" Vegeta said, his voice came out in almost a whisper.
Renjiamori was unaware of his innocence and he replied, "I wanted to." He leaned down again, and slowly touched lips with Vegeta's once more for good measure. Vegeta allowed it, but didn't understand. He'd never been touched so gingerly. Renjiamori asked, "Where's your bed?"
Vegeta hesitated to answer as a heat coursed through his body he knew wasn't coming from the drink. He liked the sound of that question and the way Renjiamori's breath felt on his face and neck. He was staring at his lips as he heard him say, "I want you."
Vegeta didn't question it anymore, he knew his body well enough to know he wanted him, too. He didn't know how they could go from barely speaking to this, but it felt right. He kissed his lips back tenderly, at least Renjiamori thought so, he didn't realize it was timidness that Vegeta acted with.
Renjiamori asked again, taking a break from Vegeta's lips, "Show me where your bed is."
Vegeta took a drink while he slowly led him through his quarters and back to his room, not taking his eyes off of him when he could help it. He closed the door. Both men took a minute to completely finish their drinks, standing beside the bed, touching one another's arms, chests, and torsos over their armor. Neither said a word as they set their empty glasses down. They undressed a little quickly, each man watching the other with great desire, reaching out now to touch bare skin and pulling each other closer.
When it came time to remove their under ware, Vegeta could already see the erection Renjiamori was sporting, and he couldn't hide his own from jutting out proudly. Renjiamori's strong hands immediately grabbed it and he smirked down at Vegeta as he began to pump it through the cloth. He pushed Vegeta lightly, guiding him to lay on the bed, as he crawled on top of him. Vegeta climbed backwards, further onto the mattress, and Renjiamori kissed random parts of his body as he moved, still holding onto his aroused cock.
"Should I suck your dick or should I tease you a bit?" Renjiamori asked, and Vegeta had never heard him sound so sexy.
In spite of the fact that sex wasn't completely new to Vegeta, he couldn't remember having ever had his dick sucked before, and even though he was not calm at all, he wasn't as uncomfortable as he felt he should be. He couldn't find an answer quick enough, though, so Renjiamori pulled the last remaining garment down and went to work anyways.
Renjiamori wanted Vegeta so badly, he couldn't say exactly why or explain it. The last thing he wanted was to leave Vegeta feeling unsatisfied or used. As Renjiamori took Vegeta's girth into his mouth, he took extra care to pay attention to Vegeta's reactions. He found it was the easiest blow-job he'd ever given, not only because he was into it, but because Vegeta made it so easy on him, in spite of his generous size. He moaned and held onto the back of Renjiamori's head as Renjiamori hummed all around him, and used his hips to pump into his hot, willing, mouth. He tried to hold off, but he couldn't stall it for long, what with the older male's talented tongue, he could feel the head of his penis touching the back of his throat and it was driving him crazy. Vegeta didn't know if it was the drink, the new experience, or Renjiamori, but he'd never felt such pleasure before, and he'd never cum so hard.
Renjiamori tried to swallow it all but he couldn't, and he ended up finding a towel and wiping himself off before wiping down Vegeta. The prince panted, eyes closed, and chest heaving. Renjiamori noticed his tail unwrapped from around his waist laid out on the bed, swaying, he'd never seen him like that before, and couldn't help but stare at him, lustfully.
Vegeta felt a rush of panic as he opened his eyes, but once his mind registered that it was Renjiamori and not Raditz he calmed down. He knew it was his turn and although he was nervous, Renjiamori's small smile made him feel more at ease.
Renjiamori stood up by the bed and pulled his hard cock out of it's confines, holding it for Vegeta to take. As Vegeta crawled over and began putting it in his mouth, still no words were spoken between the two. Vegeta had done this part before and knew fairly well how to manage. Renjiamori's penis left nothing to desire, though, so it made it harder than taking in Raditz but he was lustful and willing and allowed Renjiamori to choke him with his cock more than once before finally getting him off.
Renjiamori moaned and pushed Vegeta back on the bed as he finished riding out his orgasm. He kissed him and Vegeta kissed back, then he heard the smaller male say, "You can't stay here."
Renjiamori replied, "That's fine, but I'm not leaving yet, and I'm definitely coming back."
Vegeta looked at him strangely but didn't say anything because Renjiamori was already pressing their mouths together again. After a half an hour Vegeta kicked him out, unhappy about the idea of anyone noticing their time spent together. He didn't realize then how much more difficult it would get for them in the future.
::: Vague :::
Goku and Vegeta didn't talk at all during their lunch, which lasted the majority of the break the Council- the Progression- were allowed. Neither man knew what to say to the other and since Amori left to see about Jeremel there was no one else there to spur on a conversation. Every other member of the board was either on smoke break, or having a cup of coffee elsewhere, or doing whatever it is their kind does, though few passed by, none said anything to the two men. (They were all probably too shocked by their eating habits.)
Goku's mind was focused on the delicious food, but Vegeta was troubled. He hadn't thought this whole thing through from the beginning of it. All he heard was "reward" buried with secrecy, he should have known it would be an ordeal. Now that he's here, with Kakarot, and his past is coming to the surface, he didn't know what to think.
The two men finished up and were summoned to the room. After a few minutes they approached the large door. Goku turned to him and asked quietly, "Hey, what was that with the tail thing? What if they wanted to see it?"
Vegeta unwound his tail from around his waist and said, "They wouldn't have dared ask me to prove such a thing, and besides, we both have our tails now, right?"
Goku couldn't believe he hadn't noticed before. It must have happened when Vegeta left the room earlier. He reached out to touch it but his hand was swatted away. Vegeta wrapped his tail back around his waist while Goku mumbled, "Okay," but said nothing else about it. He couldn't deny, though, that his thoughts were more fuzzy now than earlier this morning. Just the realization that they both have their tails again turns his mind to other, more private things. He almost didn't want to wait until later to explore Vegeta in this whole new light.
They passed through the door and Goku was reminded of the more important matters at hand. He felt an odd presence and looked around the room. Everyone in the council was seated except two. There was a new man standing up next to Renjiamori and it could be guessed who he is.
"Prince Vegeta, Goku, this is councilman Jeremel," Renjiamori introduced them in front of the Progression. "Jeremel, it's my pleasure to introduce these two gentlemen to you. You may have the floor whenever you are ready," with that Renjiamori took a seat.
Jeremel is no taller than Goku, but bigger and broader. He didn't look like any type of public figure, instead he looked like a warrior. His black hair was disheveled and short, his dark eyes looked sharp, his skin was far more dark than Vegeta's, and he had visible scars on his neck and his face, and probably his entire body. Though he wasn't ugly, he wasn't an inviting looking man, and, actually, his smile was more unsettling than welcoming. He looked almost Saiyan, somehow, but he wasn't a Saiyan at all. Still he smiled on at them, particularly at Vegeta.
When Goku heard his voice he was surprised, it was full of emotion and humor as he said to Vegeta, "I wish your father could be here to see you now. Ah, well, that was a different life. I'll do all the talking from here, you and I can catch up later." He nodded at Goku and gestured for them to have a seat.
"As you all well know I was late, but Master Renji has updated me on our progress, so I will reiterate what I know and we can move on from there.
"You have all agreed that this man, Goku, is Kakarot, Son of Bardock, and that he is the one who defeated Frieza, and freed our realm." No one responded so he kept going, "You have also agreed that this man is Prince Vegeta, of King Vegeta?... May I ask why the council did not go further?"
One man answered, "This is a case that you worked personally, and we felt you ought to be here to witness the settling of the account."
Jeremel looked at Renjiamori and whispered,"Good answer." Both men chuckled. The council always spoke so fair to Jeremel.
A woman added, "We would like to make sure your input is shared and duly noted."
"Well," Jeremel huffed in mock agreement, "My input is this: King Vegeta was a friend of mine. I respected him and he respected me. I was on the outside of Frieza's army, while he was on the inside of it. Both parties wanted the same thing. He and I had an understanding."
There he paused for a long time. He seemed to be contemplating something, but then it passed and he said, "I'm convicted in my duties and my decisions. Prince Vegeta and Kakarot will have their rewards, and Prince Vegeta, will have his freedom."
No one argued, though some looked somewhat displeased.
Jeremel added, "Vegeta committed crimes under a warlord's rule, that rule has been lifted, and he has committed no crime since. The same could be said of Renjiamori. Let us now sign the papers and prepare for the ceremony. Renjiamori and I will discuss the details of the money transfer. Everything has already been put into place and the transaction will occur later in the day." With that, Jeremel signed the documents himself and told them, "Toast to yourselves, we will meet again in a week to celebrate the finality of one of our biggest endeavors."
The men and women clapped and signed the papers and carried on.
Jeremel smiled to himself and Renjiamori rolled his eyes. He looked Vegeta in the eyes as if to say, "It really was our relationship that bothered them- or they're all brainwashed." Vegeta heard every word within the light of his eyes and had to hide a crooked smile.
Jeremel chimed in before Goku could catch on, "So, I bet you're wondering who I am?"
Vegeta looked at him blankly and asked, unabashed, "Are you going to tell me?"
Jeremel chuckled and Goku's arm twitched at the sound.
"Later, yeah, we can discuss all those things," Jeremel said, "but right now I have more work." He nodded at them both and they all watched him walk out of the room through it's large double doors.
"Well," Renjiamori said, "Congratulations! You are free, Vegeta," he smiled at him, "and you, Goku, are well honored here and everywhere because of your deeds. I do hope your wife is happy with the reward money. You've earned it."
Goku laughed and scratched the back of his head, saying, "Thanks!"
Vegeta made no reply, so Renjiamori added, to stop the silence, "If you'll come with me I'll show you the account I've set up for both of you, all we need are some signatures and the money will be transfered to you in the currency of your location on Earth, to make things simple."
The next few hours were dull, traveling back and forth, signing this and signing that, but after it was all said and done both men felt better for it. Goku finally felt like he did something right for Chi Chi, she would never run out of money, even if she bought everything she ever wanted. He was also happy for Vegeta, maybe he could feel like things righted themselves for once in his life.
Vegeta felt good about the pardon more than anything, though he knew it could only mean so much. People all over the universe cower at his name, and he still likes it some of the time. He was proud to be able to give Bulma the inheritance of his people, too. Now he's able to set her and their posterity up for endless generations, and for her to work on any project she has in mind without the worry of her company's involvement, she will be thrilled about that, at least. The money itself made him sad to think about.
Renjiamori turned to Vegeta after everything was through and sighed.
Goku noticed a change in the air, like he sensed their emotions.
"Goku," Renjiamori shook his head, "I-"
"I want to talk to Renjiamori alone," Vegeta interrupted impatiently.
Goku grew a little weary but nodded and said, "I understand," and then he turned and walked away.
It wasn't until he left the building entirely and flew off that Renjiamori spoke, saying, "You never go the right way about getting what you want."
"I still get what I want," Vegeta retorted.
Renjiamori laughed but hesitated to reply. The two Princes took their time leaving. Once they walked outside of the building, Vegeta turned in the opposite direction that Goku had headed, Renjiamori followed beside him.
"Can we go anywhere private?" Vegeta asked, his tone all business.
"I think we should go have a drink. I know a good place- no one will pay attention to us."
Renjiamori led the way and they walked for quite some time in a comfortable silence. Once inside the bar, they sat across from one another in a booth out the way and picked their drink of choice. The waitress knew to keep them coming in silent service.
Finally Renjiamori said, "I'm a little disappointed in you."
"Oh?" Vegeta scoffed, "What else is new?"
Their conversations were always so challenging, and Renjiamori couldn't help but smile as he said, "You haven't changed that much, have you?" Vegeta braced himself as another conversation he never expected to have began. Renjiamori admitted, "You gave me the hardest time I have ever had."
"Really?" Vegeta's undertone was sensual with a hint of amusement.
"Haha-" Amori laughed, but continued in seriousness, "Well, I haven't forgotten you." He smiled and then looked at him squarely. "You never expected to see me again, did you? Did you think that when you were first leaving?"
Vegeta usually wouldn't have batted an eyelash at such a question but he felt his blood pressure rising and so he took a drink to calm his nerves. He answered, "Yes and no."
Amori waited for a better response he doubted would come, so he said, "You just... left. Left me on the ship thinking you would return, left me thinking we were still together. Left me with Frieza and the mess that had only just begun..." There was a long pause before he continued, but eventually, after taking a few drinks himself, he said, "Some time went by before I heard what you had done, refusing to return when asked. I wanted so badly to hear your true reasoning for leaving the ship after Raditz! I knew it had to be something else." He took a deep breath, "After a while I heard about the dragonballs and I finally understood and then it was me who thought I'd never see you again. It was funny, it almost seemed like Frieza was glad that you left, like he was allowing it. Then, after a year or so, I heard all about Namek and the battle against Frieza won by Kakarot, and what really happened to Nappa and Raditz."
"How did you get out of Frieza's guard?" Vegeta asked curiously, shifting the focus onto Renjiamori.
"When Frieza left for Namek himself, he only took so many men. He never thought of the threat that may await him, only of the prize of the dragonballs. It was easy to disappear from his men, but harder to escape his domain. Eventually people of Nartal had mercy on me. All focus of the men on the planet was towards the war on Namek, as were my own meditations. I became more useful to them than I had ever been to Frieza.
"Nartal was one of the only planets that had ever survived an attempt at take-over, and the battle had been very recent. I helped them rebuild their planet back to a stable balance in the geology. I have done so for hundreds of planets across the Universe, though some refuse my offer," Amori frowned, and the defeated look on his face was all too familiar, "It's never enough, of course. Anyways, I'm happy to see you."
Vegeta smirked, "You haven't changed that much, either. You avoid the topic at hand just as much as I do."
"Probably more!" Amori said, "I at least think about it." Vegeta didn't answer so Amori was forced to keep talking and he offered, "You didn't tell Goku about us. You should have told him."
Vegeta was quick to reply, "You didn't tell me it was you who orchestrated this whole thing! How was I supposed to know I needed to tell him?"
Amori paused, but answered, "If I were in a relationship with someone I would have mentioned my ex's at some point in time, so that if I came upon one, my lover wouldn't be shocked or angry."
"You don't know what type of relationship we have!" Vegeta said without thinking, referring to more than Renjiamori could possibly know about Kakarot's personality.
"So you're saying you're not together?!" Renjiamori grew angry.
"We are together but-"
"So what then?" Amori's voice suddenly grew soft just as they were beginning to get loud. He shook his head and folded his arms over the table. Eventually he took another drink and then spoke, because Vegeta would not, and said, "You're right, I don't know what kind of relationship you share with him, but I know what kind of relationship we had and our problems were simple problems that became complicated."
Vegeta grew tense as he continued, both men drinking their drinks. Amori confessed, "I don't know what I thought was going to come of the future, back then, when we were young and reckless. I guess all I saw then was the here and now, and now that we're in the future and I'm seeing you again, I feel like I'm stuck here and now, all over again."
Vegeta couldn't deny he found the same confusion within himself. He said quietly, "I wish you would have contacted me personally... Sooner..."
Amori shook his head but wouldn't say anything in response to that. He did say, "I looked up what it means to have a 'wife,' then I saw that you have one, too. I honestly can't believe in all of my thoughts of you I never thought about whether you were single or not, and yet, you act as though you expected me to... what? Show up on the doorstep to your families home like some... when you're already seeing another man! I followed my instincts on that one, and I'm glad I did. I'm already a little embarrassed at not having known about you and Goku prior. I'm so confused," he laughed, "and I just..."
Vegeta grabbed his hand in a moment of weakness and said, "Now's not a good time."
Renjiamori leaned in squeezing his hand gently, and argued, "There's no such thing as good timing in mending broken relationships."
Vegeta replied, in a quiet and easy tone, "I didn't leave for Raditz . I had to find a way to beat Frieza- You have to understand."
"I do understand that," Amori nodded and Vegeta let go of his hand. Amori persisted, "My intentions are not to break you and Goku up. I only thought of seeing you again." He couldn't help but add, "You look amazing. So strong and so grown up."
Vegeta replied softly, "You, too."
After that Renjiamori could find no way to spur him into saying more so he simply remained quiet.
Vegeta knew he would have to say something eventually, so he began with, "Kakarot and I..." but he couldn't find the right words to end with.
Amori guessed, "I see that you must care for him a great deal. There is something between the two of you that you want in your life and you're..."
"What?" Vegeta demanded to know the rest.
Amori hesitated but answered, "You didn't tell him because you never thought you'd have to, but even if I were dead you should still explain to him about me and about Raditz," he paused, then added, "You don't ever talk about your past do you?"
"I told him once what Frieza did to my people. I have shed my fair share of tears in front of him," answered Vegeta, bitterly.
"That's not enough, Vegeta."
"Yes it is," he claimed and found himself adding, "I don't even know what made me tell you everything."
Amori searched between his eyes. He leaned in and said, "Circumstances," as he shrugged. "You're too hard on yourself."
"How would you know?" Vegeta crossed his arms.
Amori laughed sadly at their conversation. He answered, "I know you, Vegeta."
Vegeta changed the subject, "What about you? You're not exactly an outgoing man yourself. You rarely talk about what's going on with you, though you still seem to be quite popular, as always. Am I to believe that you're not seeing anyone?"
"No," Amori shook his head, "No, I've been focused on my career more than anything."
Vegeta waited for Amori to say something else, then he realized he would have to say something if he wanted this to move forward. He explained, "Things just happened... Over the years, I didn't realize what was happening until it was practically done. I... I chose to stay on Earth after Frieza's defeat."
Amori smiled, "Yes, you started a family, and stayed in one place for once."
Vegeta only nodded, but at Amori's insistence he went on to say, "I had found a new obsession; defeating Kakarot because he defeated me. He had mercy on me, and then killed my personal nemesis. After years of failing to over power him, I grew to admire and respect him." The way Vegeta looked away when talking about Goku made Amori wonder, still Vegeta went on explaining himself in his own odd way, "When Kakarot first came to me and showed me other interests of his I turned him down. He persisted."
Amori knew that may be true, but he also knew that if Vegeta truly wasn't interested, he would have never given him a chance. He found that he didn't want to talk about Goku anymore, he couldn't help but feel jealous. He would never have a chance to kiss Prince Vegeta again, never have a chance to lay him down and give himself over to him again. All he wanted to do at the moment was get closer to Vegeta and he didn't see it happening.
"Kakarot is..."
"It's alright," Amori stopped him from continuing, "Really. You're right, I should have contacted you sooner, then the shock of our reunion wouldn't have been so strong."
"Why didn't you try to get in touch with me before?" Vegeta asked, and then wondered, "And how is it that you don't know Jeremel when you are a part of the same council?"
"These meetings don't always work like this, with everyone attending every time they have something to discuss. Usually they are few and word gets spread around through other means. I have been in collaboration with Jeremel but he and I have never met or had direct contact before today. We just have some knowledge of one another."
"Why didn't you send word to me sooner about my file?"
Amori admitted, "I wanted to bring you good news, not an insignificant hope that would cause you any more drawn out pain."
Vegeta frowned, but saw his side as honorable and made no response.
Amori licked his lips in hesitation but still confronted him with, "I know you left for more than just the hopes of meeting Raditz's little brother."
Vegeta grew angry and crossed his arms over his chest.
Amori shook his head at him and said, "To deny that our relationship had problems would be a waste of time, but I have always cared for you, and I figured that if you really wanted out, what else could I do but just let you go?"
"It would have been foolish of you to have followed me, anyways," Vegeta huffed, avoiding admitting anything.
"Our lives are not fairy-tales, Vegeta. Obviously I couldn't follow you across the universe in hopes of you finally realizing that I loved you. I had my own skeletons to face," Amori frowned, becoming increasingly frustrated with him, he added,"You're not the only one with problems."
"Is this how you expect to solve things between us?" Vegeta scoffed at him, with half a mind to be offended.
Amori almost sneered as Vegeta pretended to be put-off, but he kept himself calm as he replied, "You're self-centered and conceited, Vegeta, and you know it. To this day I can see that you still never use your time to consider others around you. Maybe once in a blue moon you show some rare side of yourself that keeps your suitors coming, but everything else is just whatever bullshit head game you feel like playing that day. It grows old."
Vegeta's jaw dropped at what he just heard Amori say.
Amori didn't stop there, "So many times we left words unsaid between us. So many years we spent struggling to communicate, even though we knew it would be so simple to do. If you think for one minute that I'm going to hold back now you are mistaken. I have finally learned how to be forward and honest, even if you have not. I am no longer afraid of losing you because I already have."
Vegeta shook uncontrollably at this point in time. It was far less time than he thought it would be before he suddenly burst with words he'd never heard himself say and he raised his voice, "What business is it of yours?! You thought I could start a life with you and we could forget everything just like you always pretended to? You live in the past! I live in the future! My future! Who should I worry about but myself and why should I drop my desires to consider anyones else's?! I had to be strong! I had to find a solution and I did! Even if I wasn't the one who killed Frieza! I was there, trying to make it happen! You were somewhere else, trying to create a non-existant blanket of safety for everyone else who did nothing about their impending doom!"
"You were reckless and proud!" Renjiamori's voice bit back at him, though he spoke much quieter and with forced control, "I may have been more withdrawn than you were but I was not ignorant nor was I idle. You may have been part of the force to kill Frieza, but I was part of the force of hope behind Goku's strength and Frieza's death. I helped give others courage and strength to prepare, even in the event of it all going ill.
"There is much you do not know about the deeds of those who surround you on that tiny planet out in the middle of nowhere. You are being watched very closely. Everyone knows of your toils on Earth. Evil seems to follow Kakarot like his shadow and yet he doesn't even seem faded by it. He has a true purpose in life and, whether you realize it or not, you are a part of it. Do you not see that you have just been cleared of all your wrong-doings- all the bad you've done in more years than you've lived on Earth?"
Vegeta grit his teeth, pissed, why exactly he could not say, but for all his anger he would not lose his temper. He held nothing but respect for Amori and would have to settle for considering this conversation in full, later.
"You have grown," Amori swallowed hard, and added, "I see how some things have worked themselves out."
Vegeta whispered, quelling, "What do you mean?"
Amori never answered him that night. Instead a look came unto his eyes that Vegeta found so familiar and still alluring, he had to look away. Amori put a lot of money on the table for the tab, pushed his drink away, nudged for Vegeta to follow him, and headed for the door smoothly. Vegeta finished the rest of his drink in one gulp and then followed, both men acting as though there was no one else in the whole restaurant.
Once they'd stepped outside Renjiamori said, "I'm going to ask you to do something for me." Vegeta felt like a response wasn't necessary and listened intently. Amori finished, "But not right now."
Vegeta still had nothing to say. The two men walked side by side in a strange comfort, still not having talked about everything, but knowing that at this point, what had been said was enough.
