Chapter One - A Meeting of Sorts

Rei stood at the sink washing the oil off his hands.
His last customer for the day had left and now it was time for him to pack up and go home.
A knock sounded at the door interrupting his train of thought about what he intended on having for dinner.

“Come in,” he called out turning off the water and grabbing the hand towel.

Max, a good friend and fellow masseuse, walked in hurriedly.

“Rei, buddy, I need a huge favor,” Max said walking over and taking a seat on the massage table.
“What’s up Max?” Rei asked hanging up the hand towel and walking over to his blonde friend.
“Mum is sick in the hospital and Dad says I need to get over there right away but I have a customer due in five minutes,” Max said looking at Rei with his pleading blue eyes.
“Okay Max I’ll do it,” Rei said sighing.
So much for getting home early that day.
“Thank-you so much Rei. I owe you one, big time,” Max said before running out of the room.

Rei sighed and looked out his office window for a bit before he went out to the reception area.
He walked over to Emily, their receptionist, who handed him a file.
Rei flipped through taking a quick look at what the patient’s problem was.
Though he and Max did the occasional ‘just a massage’ for someone they were a medical firm that specialised in massage to help people who had been in horrific accidents and had physiotherapy constantly. Massage could relieve a lot of tension and Rei and Max were often called to the hospital to fill in for physiotherapists on leave.
Rei also had a degree in psychology.

Suddenly the front door of the clinic jingled. Rei turned towards the door and watched as what he assumed was his patient walked in shutting the door behind him.
Rei took a good look at the guy. He looked to be about twenty-two and had hair two different shades of blue. His eyes were crimson and he was well muscled which was exposed by the black muscle shirt he wore. He obviously worked out. The guy was also wearing baggy blue pants.

Rei walked up to him and extended his hand.

“You must be Kai Hiwatari. My name is Rei Kon. Unfortunately Max has been called out on urgent family matters so I will be filling in for him. If it is okay with you?” Rei asked.
Kai eyed Rei up and down. Seeing that he looked weak he took Rei’s hand and shook it.
“If you’ll follow me we’ll get started. Now if you’ll explain your problem I’ll be able to proceed quicker,” Rei said walking towards his office.
“Rei,” Emily called and threw a bottle of oil that Max used especially for Kai at Rei.

Without even looking up from his quick skim of Max’s notes Rei caught the bottle in one hand and kept walking.
Kai saw this and quickly became uneasy.

“So” Rei asked closing the door behind Kai who had followed him in, “It seems an unspecified accident happened and now you have a problem with your back, shoulders and legs.
Kai nodded at this.
“Can you tell me more?” Rei said, “Like what kind of pain it is and where it is specifically?”
“It’s a sharp pain. If I walk it hurts, if I sit it hurts, if I lay down it hurts,” Kai said gruffly.

Rei shivered at the sound of Kai’s voice it was deep and definitely bordering on erotic.

“So in other words,” Rei said holding out the towel that Kai was to wear, “It hurts all the time. Does it hurt even after you take pain killers?”
“I don’t take pain killers. I refuse,” Kai stated firmly heading for the fold out screen so he could change.
“I can understand that,” Rei said rolling up his sleeves.

Kai came out and lay down on the special bed. Rei almost gasped.
The word ‘Yummy’ went though Rei’s mind as well as a few other things, even with the large scar that ran from his right shoulder blade down his back around his side over his hip and continued down past the towel.
Kai’s back and stomach was littered with scars. Some were large and angry like they were new and some were old, very old.

“Well,” Kai growled when Rei didn’t start the massage right away, “Go on ask about my scars. Every one else does.”
“I’m not everyone else,” Rei said huffily then he said a little softer, “I know from personal experience that a lot of people don’t want to talk about some things.”
“I saw your degree over there and thought you’d try and get into my head,” Kai said slightly ashamed he rolled over to look at the raven-haired man, “Hang on. Personal experience.”
“As much as getting into your head would be a wonderful challenge,” Rei said grinning, “You came here for a massage not a ‘Sit down and tell me about your horrible childhood’ session.”

This brought a small grin to Kai’s face.

“I like you,” Kai said, “I don’t like many people but you’re different. So you said personal experience. What does that mean?”

Rei sighed and unbuttoned his work shirt turning around to show Kai the scars on his back.
Kai reached out and ran a finger along one of them sending shivers up and down Rei’s spine.

“I didn’t think anyone would know what it was like to go through the pain I have but it’s obvious you have,” Kai said touching another one.
“Well,” Rei said pulling away and doing up his shirt, “Being neko-jin you get used to this.”

Kai nodded.

“Well let’s get back to you,” Rei said grinning.

Kai nodded and rolled over onto his stomach.
Rei applied some oil to his hands and started to massage Kai‘s shoulder muscles.

“You want to know how to get rid of some of the pain?” Rei asked.
“Yeah,” Kai sighed enjoying the massage.
“Stop taking muscle relaxants,” Rei said.

Kai was stunned for a second.

“How did you know?’ Kai asked gruffly.
“Your muscles are relaxed in an unnatural position. That is what is causing some of the pain. Also your muscles are heated which means they’re inflamed from maybe an injury. You’re not resting to let things heal,” Rei scolded.
“I don’t have the luxury of relaxing,” Kai said simply.

Rei started to worry. Kai had lost all emotion in his voice.

“Why?” Rei asked softly.
“If I told you then I’d have to kill you,” Kai said.
“Okay,” Rei said, “Don’t tell me but I mean it. You’re going to have some real problems if you keep going on like this. Take a holiday to some nowhere place.”
“Mmmm,” was all Kai said.

He was slowly falling asleep because of Rei’s soothing touch.
Rei couldn’t help but smile.
Kai soon fell asleep and when Rei finished he didn’t have the heart to wake him.
Rei went out to the reception area.

“Go home Emily. I’ll lock up for the night,” Rei said to the woman.
“What about Mr. Hiwatari?” Emily said.
“Don’t worry about it. Go home to Kenny. I’m pretty sure he’s missing you right know,” Rei said.

Emily smiled warmly grabbed her bag and left.
Rei went back into his office and went over to his desk. He did some paperwork and looked over Kai’s file more closely. Every now and then he’d look up to check on Kai.
At about quarter to one in the morning Rei looked up to find Kai staring back at him.

“So you’re awake,” Rei said leaning back in his chair and stretching his arms above his head.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” Kai asked flatly.
“You looked like you needed the sleep and I didn’t have the heart to wake you,” Rei said looking Kai straight in the eye.
“Thank-you,” Kai said softly a blush flooding across his cheeks.
“You’re welcome,” Rei said yawning, “God paper work is so boring.”

Kai couldn’t help but grin.
He liked this guy. He was honest, funny and had one great looking body.
At this thought Kai blushed even darker causing Rei to tilt his head to the side cutely.

“Well I’d better get going,” Kai said getting up and going over to the fold out screen he got dressed throwing the towel he used in the huge washing hamper like the one he’d seen in Max’s office.
“Yep and I had better get walking,” Rei said grabbing his knapsack from under his desk.
“Walking,” Kai said, “No way I’ll drive you home. I’m the reason you’ll be late home your wife will be having kittens, no offence.”
“None taken and I’m not married,” Rei said, “And you don’t have to drive me I’m fine walking.”
“I’m driving you and that’s that,” Kai said with a ‘Don’t even think about arguing tone’.
“Okay, okay,” Rei said holding up his hands in ‘I Surrender’ gesture, “You’re very domineering aren’t you?”
“You have no idea,” Kai said smirking.

Rei looked at him oddly.
Rei locked up the clinic and followed Kai to his sleek black Ferrari and climbed in.
Kai started it up and got moving.

“So where we headed?” Kai asked.
“Galeon Apartments,” Rei replied.

Kai nodded.
After about five minutes he noticed that Kai had picked up speed and was constantly looking in his rear view mirror.

“What’s up Kai?” Rei asked.
“A very big problem. See that car behind us,” Kai said and seeing Rei nod he said, “Let’s just say it doesn’t have very nice people in it.”
“I see and what are you going to do about it?” Rei asked.
“Hold on,” Kai said to Rei leaning over to him and tightening his seatbelt.
