Links Says: This started off as a sort of short one off thingamabob after I heard this song at work. It’s my first fic so if it’s bad don’t blame me, everyone needs a starting point. It ended up as a two part story so far thanks to Lele-chan. ^_^ Please feel free to leave a comment, critisism (constructive or otherwise) is also welcome.

You Raise Me Up Part One

When I am down and, oh my soul so weary,
When troubles come and my heart burdened be,
Then I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit a while with me.

Wufei lay on his bed in the darkness of the safe house. All alone with nothing but his thoughts to keep him company, the rest of the household was asleep. He rolled onto his back, eyes searching the blank ceiling for something to take his mind of his thoughts of the past. It was almost as though someone had pressed replay on the images that had haunted him since the day his colony was destroyed. They kept going around in circles.

Death, aloneness, undeserved life. Death, aloneness, undeserved life. Death, aloneness, undeserved life.

Why was he the only one left? Why couldn’t he have died with them? Why was he still alive after everything had happened?......... Why………..

Peace time was proving to be more trouble for the Chinese boy than it was worth. He really felt like there was nothing to live for.

The silence around him felt thick and he tossed around, restlessly, on his bed. He knew that sleep would be a long time coming from the state he was in.

Untangling his bed sheets from his heavy limbs, Wufei dragged his weary body across the room and into his bathroom; sedatives were the only thing that would give him a little peace.

You raise me up so I can walk on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas,
I am strong when I am on your shoulders,
You raise me up… to more than I can be.

Searching hopelessly in the dark for the switch, Wufei squinted as the light flickered into being. His dark eyes drifted over the mess on the counter. Those damned sedatives were nowhere to be seen. Tired eyes kept searching, and came to rest on a hairbrush. Was that his hairbrush??

He blinked and reached for the object in question, a smile spreading slowly across his face as he picked it up. Leaning against the wall, he found himself laughing quietly as he fingered the chestnut locks occupying the bristles of the hairbrush that was undeniably his.

“Bastard didn’t even ask.” He whispered affectionately into the silence.

There was nobody in the world that could make him laugh with such ease. Wufei found it easier to admit to the silence, the feelings he had for the braided boy, than to himself. He kept trying to convince himself that it was wrong to have feelings such as these for anybody, let alone his fellow pilot.

He closed his eyes, clutching the hairbrush tenderly to his chest. The feelings he had for Duo could not possibly be wrong. He made him feel like he had never felt before. Duo made him feel alive.

You raise me up so I can walk on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas,
I am strong when I am on your shoulders,
You raise me up… to more than I can be

Still clutching the hairbrush, Wufei flicked off the light and padded silently across the room towards his bed. Sighing he lay back down and pulled the sheets up around him, the hairbrush still clutched in his hand. Another smile played on his lips as he remembered some of the highlights of the previous day.

Duo falling down the stairs in a rush to get to breakfast. Duo flicking a forkful of pancake at Heero for not letting him have the T.V. remote. Duo falling to the floor in hysterics as Heero danced around swearing to shoot the boy as soon as he was cleaned off. And that was just breakfast.

He laughed out loud when he remembered Duo and Trowa juggling eggs in the kitchen. Not one of the classier acts he had ever witnessed, but definitely one of the most entertaining. As was the image of Duo teaching the other pilots to toboggan down the stairs atop flattened cardboard boxes.

He was enough to drive a person to insanity, but, you really just couldn’t help falling in love with the braided boy.

The images of earlier had been lost to these happy thoughts. Sleep had finally come.

There is no life – no life without its hunger,
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly,
But when you come and I am filled with wonder;
Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity.

“Wuuu-feiii”

Wufei was sitting in a field of daisies, the breeze caressing his face.

“Oi, Wu-man. Hellooo”

Where was that voice coming from? He could have sworn that it was Duo. But hadn’t he left Duo back at the safe house?

“Wufeiiiiiiiii would you wake up!”

The world began to bounce.

“Mmmmfff” Wufei opened his eyes slowly.

“God it’s about freakin’ time” Duo pounced on Wufei, almost knocking the wind out of him.

“Gah! Duo!” Wufei struggled up form underneath the other boy. “Must you wake me up like that?” He grabbed the chestnut boy by the arms and forced him down onto the bed.

“Wahhhhhhh! Ouuuuuuch!!” Wufei recoiled; blushing at what he knew was under Duo’s back.

“What the hell is that?!?!” He reached underneath himself and pulled out the hairbrush.

“Wu-man, I’ve heard of guys sleeping with stuffed toys but Dude! This is ridiculous!!” His laughter deepened the blush on Wufei’s cheeks.

“So there it is, I was wondering where that had gotten to.” He hoped his reply would distract the braided boy from the colour in his cheeks.

Duo’s smile faded as he looked up at Wufei, “Sorry Wu-man, I didn’t think you’d mind.” He was the picture of innocence.

“Yeah, next time just put it back ok.” It had worked. “I think breakfast is ready.” Wufei started towards the door.

As he walked past Duo, he felt the sharp sting of the hairbrush connecting with his butt cheek. He whirled around ready to pound the offender, and found himself nose to nose with the grinning braided boy.

“What was that for?” Duo’s smile was worrying.

You raise me up so I can walk on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas,
I am strong when I am on your shoulders,
You raise me up… to more than I can be

“It was because I DID put it back!” Duo grinned and kissed Wufei firmly on the lips before running off towards the door laughing like a hyena.

Wufei couldn’t move. Duo had just kissed him and he couldn’t move.

“C’mon Wu-man breakfast is ready and I want to show you the new trick Trowa and I have been practicing” Duo was dancing on the spot. Wufei didn’t move. Duo began skipping across the room towards him.

“God Fei, anyone would think I just grabbed your balls in public or something!” Wufei found himself nose to nose with the braided boy once more.

“I…I…You…” He was stammering and he felt Duo’s hands on his cheeks.

“I kissed you. Yep.” Duo’s grin never faltered, his confidence almost intimidating Wufei. “Truth is Wu-man, I think I like you. Y’know, as more than a friend.”

Wufei closed his eyes as he felt Duo’s hot lips cover his once more, this time he responded to the other boy. This kiss was longer than the first and much sweeter than Wufei remembered kissing to be.

He felt Duo grin again. “So I’m kinda guessing that you feel the same huh?!”

Wufei couldn’t help but grin back at Duo, who had now grabbed his hands and was pulling him towards the door.

“Now, can I please show you the trick Trowa and I have been working on??” His eyes lit up as he looked at Wufei.

“Yeah, sure.” His voice was almost a whisper as he closed his eyes again, relishing the tingle in his lips from Duo’s last kiss. He wanted to remember this moment forever.

Suddenly, he was lifted skywards, apparently on Duo’s shoulders. Wufei instinctively grasped for Duo’s head.

“Duo I don’t think….”

“S’ok, Trowa and I have been practicing up and down the stairs. You won’t fall off, I promise.” Duo headed for the door, “let’s go get breakfast, I’m starving.”

“Duo…..Duo I don’t.” Before he could get the words out, his head collided with the doorframe.
Wufei clutched at his aching head, trying to muster a glare for the braided boy who had dissolved into another fit of laughter.

“I’m sorry Wu-man, I forgot about the door.” Duo only just got the words out.

Once again Wufei found himself laughing openly. He tackled the other boy, pinning his body to the floor and began to tickle.

Both boys ended up in hysterics.

You raise me up… to more that I can be.
