My Honest Opinion on Beyblade: I had only seen the first couple of episodes of the second version of Beyblade before I wanted to tear my eyes out and stuff my brain in a blender. I personally think that Beyblade was a good series before the second series came out and should have been left the way it was. Thus this songfic takes place during the first series, just before the Russian tournament and Kai\'s switching sides.
Summary: Kai and Rei have been secretly having an affair on the side for the past three months. But Kai has been getting distant and Rei\'s noticed. This is what happens when their pride gets in the way.

Wall, entertainment center, door. Door, entertainment center, wall.
This was the path Rei had chosen as he paced the floor in the bedroom he had been sharing with Kai since they had arrived in Russia. He was watching the digital clock on their bedside table carefully as he moved, his robes fluttering around his feet as he turned sharply away from the wall. He felt his hair whip his calves and back angrily as if protesting with his every turn.
But he ignored his hair and cloth\'s protests as he moved about the room. It was nearly midnight and Kai hadn\'t returned to their room yet from his sudden midnight stroll around the town.
Rei had protested the idea of Kai going out at all at this time of night but of course Kai wouldn\'t hear of it. Kai hadn\'t listened to him at all since just before they had arrived in Russia, so why should he have listened then?
Rei growled in frustration as he rounded the entertainment center again. Kai had been so far away from him since the last time they had enjoyed sex that it wasn\'t even funny. Rei\'s appetite for the slightly older blader was easy to see, but Kai\'s once intense desire for Rei had dwindled to a pitiful spark. He rarely got in bed with Rei anymore and he didn’t even seem slightly interested in sex now.
//He stayed up all night and cried into his pillow
And fought off the urge to just break down and call
Last night to find the fault seemed so darn easy
But now who\'s to blame don\'t matter much at all//
Rei finally quit pacing and flopped onto his bed, his heart feeling as if it had been run through a meat grinder. He grabbed his pillow and covered his head with it to try to shut out his own thoughts of just what, or who, Kai was doing right now.
The past few nights Kai had muttered a name in his sleep, one that Rei had hoped he’d heard wrong. But Rei wasn’t stupid. He knew that Kai’s past would return to him someday, and with his past possibly a new love.
He sat up on his knees and threw his pillow hard against the wall. He looked to the side table again and rolled his eyes at the cell phone that he had gotten as a present from Tyson. It matched Kai’s and had his number on speed dial. But right now he just didn’t want to break down and call Kai.
If Kai cared, he’d come back to the hotel.
//He thinks if he calls him, it just shows weakness
So the hurt goes on with every tear he\'s cried
Ain\'t it sad to see a good love fall to pieces
Chalk another heartbreak up to foolish pride//
He rolled over on the bed and groaned as he looked at the clock again. He watched it flash 12:57 a few times before getting up and retrieving his pillow. He brought it back to the bed and set it down before undressing and sliding into the cool sheets that waited. He tapped his fingers on the mattress beside him and stared the clock down, daring it to turn 1.
When it did turn one he did the same thing again until it turned 1:30, then he got up and grabbed his robe, pacing the floor again. He picked up his cell phone and gave in, calling Kai’s. After one ring it directed him to Kai’s voice mail. He hung up instead of leaving a message.
//Turn out the lights, the competition\'s over
The stubborn souls are the losers here tonight//
And while the bridges burn
Another hard hard lesson\'s learned
As in the ashes, passion slowly dies
And this romance goes down to foolish pride//
Across town in a dingy hotel Kai sat on the bed and stared at the phone. He contemplated calling Rei whom was no doubt worried about him right now. He grit his teeth and shook his head.
He wouldn’t call Rei. Not tonight, or tomorrow, or the day after. He refused to let himself wonder as he flopped back on the bed whether Rei was waiting for him or sleeping. He rationalized that, knowing Rei, he was up and about pacing the floor for him. He looked at the side table as his cell phone buzzed and picked it up. He knew the number that had shown up by heart and quickly pushed his voicemail button.
The last thing he wanted to hear was Rei’s voice nagging at him to come back. He was tired of it all. The argument that had led to him going for a walk in the snow earlier was still too fresh and he was damned if he was going to give in and be the good guy that Rei kept trying to make him into.
//He relives every word they spoke in anger
He walks to floor and punches out the wall
To apologize to him would be so simple
But instead he cries, \'I\'ll be damned if I crawl\'//
A knock on his door brought Kai out of his thoughts. He got up and went to it, peeking around it carefully before opening it all the way to let Tala in. Finding the red head had been easy in comparison to most of the things he had been through. Convincing him to have a one-nighter had been even easier.
Without words the two went to the bed and undressed, and within moments Tala was on his knees, his ass up in the air and his head resting on his arms in front of him. Kai quickly moved up behind him and slid in, his body shivering with the pleasure of having his first again after so long.
They fucked hard and rough, their only thoughts on pleasure, both knowing this wasn’t going to happen again. It was going to be their secret and no one else had to know anything about it.
After all, for Kai, this was just about trying to enjoy someone without having to fight with them about it later.

So he wrestles with emotions that defeat him

Rei sighed as he finally gave up at 5 in the morning and turned in. He blinked away tears and cuddled Kai’s pillow, not wanting to admit he knew the truth. Kai had probably found what he had searched for that evening, and was most likely sleeping it off somewhere.
The door to the room opened and Kai walked in, not bothering to be quiet. He slid his clothes off and to the floor, keeping only his black boxers on as he slipped into bed and lay facing away from Rei.
Rei was about to speak when the cold crisp scent of Tala hit him and he shut his mouth. He bit his lip roughly to keep from choking and crying and closed his eyes, giving into the inevitable.
Kai was gone from him, and he didn’t have the pride to fight to get him back.
