Ed and Al entered the Rockwell’s, bracing themselves for Winry’s attack, but it never came. They walked about the house calling for both her and Pinako, but to no avail.

“Perhaps they’re in the workshop,” Al suggested, and Ed agreed to go check.

When they entered, Ed couldn’t believe what he saw. In his corner of the universe, the only sanctuary he had, stood Colonel Roy Mustang.

“What the hell are you doing here, Mustang?!!?” the 16 year old yelled.

“My presence here has nothing to do with you, Fullmetal,” was the calm reply.

“Why else would you be here?”

A scream was head from inside the workshop. The colonel looked a bit worried.

“Oh. You brought someone here for automail.”

“Brillant deduction, Fullmetal.”

“How long have they been in there?” Al dared to ask. More screaming.

Nearly a half hour,” the colonel replied, looking a bit paler than normal.

“Brother’s took over an hour.”

“She is here for one limb, not two.”

“Arm or leg?” Ed asked nonchalantly.

“Right leg.”

“Hmm. Leg took longer, but I would think they’d be done soon.”

Sure enough, Pinako emerged from the room after several more minutes of uncomfortable silence. “You can go in now, Colonel,” she told Roy.

With a brief ‘thank you,’ he was inside the room.

“Oh, hello boys, welcome back,” she greeted the brothers.

“Hello Aunt Pinako,” Al greeted the woman.

“Who’s in there?” Ed asked.

“Brother!”

“It’s good to see you boys again,” the woman laughed. “Colonel Mustang introduced her as his niece, Nadine.”

“Ed!! Al!! ” Winry came galloping towards the two at full force. Peeking over her shoulder, Ed saw something he thought he’d never see. Mustang was... smiling. He couldn’t see the girl, she was facing away from him, but the colonel was looking down at her and... smiling. His eyes were not domineering and sarcastic. It was almost as if a completely different man had taken Mustang’s place. The stern colonel Ed knew didn’t smile like that. It was the same way Hughes smiled at Elicia.

As soon as Winry released him, Ed tried to duck by her and run into the workshop. Winry caught him by his left arm and pulled him back.

“Ed,” she said. “I know you’re curious, but remember how out of it you were the first time your automail was attached? Let them be for awhile, ok?”

“Besides, Brother,” Al added. “We have to get you fixed, anyway.”

“Fixed?!? ” Winry’s grip tightened. “What did you do to that beautiful automail this time?!? ”

“Easy, Winry! That’s my real arm!!” Ed squeaked.

“I know!! Do you think I would out my precious automail through this kind of pressure?!?!?!”

“Winry,” Al said. “His hand’s turning purple...”

“Good!!! More automail for Ed!!!”
