Stargazer

Author’s note: Heya! ^_^ Some of you might know me, as I review quite a bit of stories on AFF. I know that I will never be able to compose fanfics with the same intensity, beauty, or all around awesomeness that many of you out there do, but I promise I’ll try my best. If this doesn’t really gain any interest I guess I’ll try something else. Reviews are very much appreciated.

Disclaimer: I do not own any aspect of DBZ in any way, shape or firm, but them we all know that.

Chapter one

He padded silent and as a shadow through the deep blackness of a forest dipped in velvet midnight, his form completely swallowed by night. The air was thick, heavy. A threat of rain. The man paused and turned twin pools of liquid obsidian, drowning deep, skyward. He stared up through the dense covering of leaves bathed in silvery moonlight held up by black, twisted limbs and watched as a thin wisp of cloud drifted overhead. He hoped the clouds delivered, for rain was one of his favorite things on this planet, a small sapphire blue speck in the entirety of the universe.

The lithe saiyajin studied the intricate stars netted above with a calculating precision, toying idly with the idea of taking flight and once more traveling among them. That was his life before here. It was who he was. The saiyajin no Ouji was not meant to be confined to a peaceful cerulean planet such as this to live out his days a spectator as those stars died and faded from sight, one by one.

At least when he was in space, hurtling past through frigid black oblivion, he could be a part of it. Open his eyes as he raced past a massive nebula and witness it go up in a tremendous explosion that still was light years away, marveling as glittering stardust was pitched out into the emptiness that separated the worlds and drifted, the last remaining memory of what once was. How he would stare at those fragments as they curled and reached out into space like the phantom fingers of the star, watch them reaching, expanding to fill the void around what once was. He remembered looking out of the window of his pod during a smooth, lengthy flight and witnessing worlds being born and ancient planets die. It was as if by merely watching, he was somehow a part of these phenomenons.

With a barely audible sigh, the prince lowered his gaze and began to walk once more through a hush that one could only find at such an early hour.

The slight man flowed easily though the growth with a feral grace and ease, knowing just where to step and where to turn and where to twist, contorting his body and slipping effortlessly through openings only felt and never seen. He walked confidently, trusting the forest as he had learned to long ago.

Unconsciously he blended himself in perfectly with his surroundings as he crept towards the heart of the wood, a flash of perfect bronze skin seen here and there as a stray bit of moonlight hit just so upon his person. Hard black eyes gleamed with two pinpricks of some dark inner light, searching, studying, never missing a detail. Upswept, untamable locks flamed above him in a wild but neat flurry of spikes, a trademark feature that he was fond of. Let others see a fire burning outward as the inferno that was his rage and his unspoken suffering licked at his soul and ate away at his heart like acid.

Another step. Another minute. Time was of no obstacle, and he had centuries more to go before he was allowed release from this earthly plane of hell.

Quite suddenly the saiyajin stopped as if a switch had been thrown. He stood with shadows wrapped around him, standing impossibly still. So still, in fact, that you’d have thought he wasn’t even breathing. Almost involuntarily the man slunk deeper into the velvet cloak of night, reaching out with his acute senses, feeling about for a presence he could have sworn was there a moment before. White teeth flashed through the darkness as he smirked, shaking his head slightly.

‘Hn. I should have known...’

Satisfied with identifying the other’s presence, he continued on, slowing his pace a little so as to better hear over his own footfalls. He penetrated further into the forest, overhead the covering of broad leaves and sturdy branches thickening to weave a dense tangle that scarcely let in the light of those stars, however dim it was.

Over the soft, dry whisper that his passing made over the rich Earth beneath his heel, Vegeta heard another sound. footsteps, that echoed his own. Heavier and not as silent as his own. He rolled his lower lip under and considered speeding up, leaving the other struggling to catch up through the trees and nests of roots, for he would be very much mistaken if he did not know the reason for the other’s appearance. Deciding to have a bit of sport, he did indeed quicken his steps, amusement curling within the pit of his stomach as the echos of his own also increased their pace. He loved giving chase..
.
With a wicked smirk the ouji was off, bounding forward with a blurring speed. If he wanted to talk about it again, fine. But he’d have to catch him, first.

A dark chuckle escaped him as he heard a crash somewhere at his back and an angry hiss follow the noise. Sounded like Kakarotto tripped. Interesting. He must have been more out if his element than usual to let a slip like that happen. Gaining some ground in the second it took the other to regain his feet and start after the smaller saiyajin again, Vegeta glanced back over his shoulder into the curtain of blackness he was running through. He could sense the Earth saiyajin’s ki right behind him and was a little annoyed that he was being persistent. Why was the matter so damned important to him?!

Almost too late, the prince came to an abrupt halt to keep from crashing into said saiyajin, who had grown tired of the game and simply IT’d himself to the other.

A frown appeared instantly on Vegeta’s features, mirrored by a similar one upon Goku’s face. Now why did he have to go and spoil his fun? He was just beginning to enjoy himself. The slighter male crossed his arms over his chest and unconsciously sank into his usual cocky stance, glaring up at the taller man before him with his eyes lost in shadow.

Goku sighed as he watched the display Vegeta put on, shaking his head.

“Vegeta...” he began, motioning at the way he was standing and the annoyance he exuded. “Can’t we just-“

”No, Kakarotto, we cannot.” the Ouji broke in, cutting the younger saiyajin off. “I have told you many times already.”

“Why can’t you just explain it to me, Vegeta?! Why can’t anything ever be anything other than complex with you?”

The prince sighed and rubbed his temple as the dull throbbing of what promised to be a nasty headache later began. “Kakarotto,” he breathed remaining silent for a few heartbeats, “if I could... I- well...” he fumbled, struggling to put into words what he was thinking. Angered at not being able to eloquently state his opposition, he turned his back on the larger saiyajin. “We have been through this, Kakarotto.” he snapped, and a sleek, slim furred appendage unwrapped itself from around his slender hips to whip through the air behind. “If you did not understand the conversation the first three times, then you are just shit out of luck, aren’t you? Besides-“ he added nastily, “I don’t know why I’m wasting my time trying to explain my life to an idiot such as you. My God, you-“

”Stop it.” Goku spoke quietly.

“You want me to stop now, is it? Why didn’t you tell me that before when we were-“ he snarled as he was once again interrupted.

”Just quit it, Vegeta! Don’t do this to me again, don’t belittle me. What we did.” he said, his words losing their venom and his tone softening once more. “Please...”

Sighing, the prince bit back the flood of stinging words and insults. It wasn’t only the other he was upset with, but he was such a convenient target for his frustrations an inner turmoil. He clenched and unclenched his fists, rotating his neck in an attempt to relieve some of the pressure that was building up within him. His temple gave a warning drum and he cursed colorfully under his breath, finally turning to face his lover.

“Thank you.” the Earth saiyajin murmured, grateful for the cooperation that was promised, however difficult the next few minutes were going to be. But he hadn’t followed Vegeta here just so the feisty Ouji could parade his head around on a stick and leave after a last cutting remark. No, he was determined to get some answers out of the enigmatic man that he could understand. He got the feeling, and he suspected strongly that he was right in this, but he believed the other made things so difficult on purpose.

“Hn.” Vegeta snorted and cast a sideways glance at a fallen log through the nearly solid blackness. Deciding that he might as well make himself comfortable, he seated himself and crossed his arms, leaning back and waiting for the other man to start.

Goku watched all this and he felt something tight and ugly around his heart let go. This would be the argument. Good. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he make his way over to his ouji’s resting place and settled down next to him, casting his gaze off into the trees as he made a mental run through of all the questions he wanted to ask. There were just so many of them...

“Well?” the growling tone of Vegeta’s voice startled him from his thoughts. “What else do you wish to discuss, Kakarotto?”

‘Here goes nothing’ Goku thought as he turned to stare levelly into the other’s piercing obsidian eyes.

“Well...”

End of chapter one! Whoo! ^_^ What did ya think? Sorry that it’s so short. I am aware that it is random and difficult to understand, but all will reveal itself eventually– that is, if I get a little feedback.

Down here is also where I will respond to any questions readers have, as well as thank you’s and recognitions and such.
