Red Light
My first real attempt at anything hardcore yaoi so please be patient with me! The pairing is TyKa so if you don’t like it, maybe you shouldn’t read this. Don’t even know where the idea for this came from, cos it‘s very AU. Oh well…
Disclaimer: I own nothing associated with Beyblade. It’s all owned by its respective creators, publishers etc. I’m in University, I’m meant to be broke.
One
Everything isn’t always what it appears to be.
Something that looks so strange can be wonderful, and something beautiful can be deadly.
It’s like they always say: every rose has its thorns. If it didn’t, what kind of flower would it be then?
My name is Tyson Granger. I’ve lived here in Bay City my whole life. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Moving away is always hard, as I was to find out. I should have been happy about being accepted to the Tokyo Daigaku. It is, after all, one of the most prestigious universities in Japan. The idea of moving away, however, had made me incredibly nervous. I didn’t want to go.
Now, your mother is always the one that tells you what not to do. Well, my mother isn’t around much, so I have my grandpa. He’s always telling me how I should live my life, but one thing he always told me was not to get involved in Tokyo’s underworld.
Yeah, Tokyo has an underworld. Most places do. That’s the general term my grandpa gives to anything relating to prostitution and drugs. One thing you do learn, however, is that you shouldn’t always do what you’re told, because sometimes you can find the most beautiful treasures in forbidden places…

Tyson stood in front of the four-storey building with a look of unease on his face. A large bag over his shoulder and a suitcase in his hands, Tyson hesitantly walked into the building and began to ascend the stairs. Stopping on the landing of the second floor and resting his bag down, he went into his jeans pocket and fished out a small plastic card, which was in between a folded piece of paper. He studied the letter carefully then picked his things up again and walked through a door. Behind this door was another small landing with two doors facing one another and the doors for an elevator on the wall facing Tyson.
“Room 203...” Tyson frowned slightly and checked the numbers on the door to his left. It was room 203. Relieved that he had found the room without too much trouble, he shifted his things towards the door and put the small plastic card into the slot on the door. Upon seeing a green light and hearing a soft click, Tyson pushed the heavy door open and began to drag his things into the hallway.
Upon the door closing, Tyson noticed that the two walls either side of him had doors on them: two to the left and two to the right. The hallway carried on down into what Tyson assumed was some sort of open plan living room and kitchen. Letting out a small huff of exhaustion, Tyson began to check the doors to see which one was his.
“Aha! Door C!” Tyson smiled triumphantly, putting his plastic card key into the door’s slot and walking in, his luggage in tow.
The room was simple enough, a single bed up against the left wall, a desk with room for a computer at the right wall, and a door to his right just as he entered which was, no doubt, his bathroom. His stomach still feeling jittery, Tyson set his bags down and flopped onto his new bed. It wasn’t as nice as his bed back at home, but he’d have to make do. This was where he’d be living now.
“I wanna go home…” Tyson mumbled sadly. Upon saying this, he heard a loud thud outside his room. His curiosity peaked, Tyson picked up his card key and left the room, heading down the corridor to the living room. There was no one there, and it wasn’t until a squeal was heard coming from the kitchen that Tyson was sure he actually had room mates.
“There’s an ice dispenser!” the voice squealed excitedly, causing Tyson’s heart to race with the shock. “Ray! There’s an ice dispenser in the fridge!” Tyson suddenly noticed another young man in the room, with long raven hair tied back in a ponytail and a red bandana wrapped around his forehead. He was dressed in Chinese attire, which gave Tyson some suggestions as to where he had originated.
“That’s nice Max,” Ray rolled his eyes and fixed his amber gaze on Tyson. “Hey, you must be the new guy we’ve been expecting. They told us down at the desk we’d be getting some kind of young prodigy staying with us this year.”
“Uh…yeah,” Tyson half-smiled, noticing Ray’s almost cat-like qualities. “I’m Tyson, by the way.”
“Ray Kon. Pleased to meet you Tyson,” Ray smiled, extending his hand for Tyson to shake, which Tyson did. “Mr Excitement in there is Max Tate, and you’ll run into the Chief eventually.”
“Huh?” Tyson asked, puzzled.
“Kenny Dion. The Chief!” Max’s blonde head popped around the kitchen door, a beaming smile on his face. He skipped to Ray’s side and examined Tyson. “You’re the prodigy huh?”
“So everyone keeps saying,” Tyson smiled, despite it being false.
“His name is Tyson, Max,” Ray sighed.
“Oh! Sorry!” Max put a hand on Tyson’s shoulder in apology. “I’m a bit of a goof at times!”
“I have to ask, Tyson,” Ray began, his gaze still focused on the bluenette. “How is it that you weren’t around for Freshman year? Why’d you show up for Sophomore year instead?”
“Well, I didn’t have the cash to come here at first,” Tyson started off, his gaze shifting down to his feet. “But this guy at the BBA said that I had talent and sponsored me to come here for Sophomore year through Senior year. He thought I had enough talent to have skipped the first year.”
“Wow!” Max exclaimed, his smile appearing to be permanent. “You must be on the Beyblade major, like we all are!”
“It’s a popular major here then?” Tyson inquired.
“You bet! Well, with the guys mostly,” Max grinned. Somehow that smile could get bigger and brighter, and Tyson had no idea how.
“So, everyone in this room is doing the Beyblade major?” Tyson asked, hating to sound so inquisitive but feeling the urge to know all the same.
“That’s right,” Ray smiled softly. “So you’re in good company.” a thought suddenly entered the neko’s mind. “Hey, you want a campus tour? The ToDai is pretty big, and you’ll need a guide just to find your classes!”
“ToDai?” Tyson tilted his head in confusion. He hated being like this.
“ToDai, it’s the nickname we tend to give this university,” Ray replied, starting to move out towards the door. “You want a tour then, Tyson?”
“Yeah sure! That’d be a big help!” Tyson smiled, pleased and grateful that he had such nice room mates. Ray beckoned Max to follow them and the trio went out of the dorm building and down into the main campus area.
They showed Tyson where the main classroom buildings were and where he had to go to get a computer. They even showed him where the library was. Towards the end of the tour, Ray and Max brought Tyson to a long stretch of street with tall buildings on both sides. It didn’t feel claustrophobic, but something about it told Tyson that it wasn’t a good place to be.
“Do we have to Ray?” Max looked over to the Chinese almost pleadingly. “Red Light is a really creepy area.”
“Red Light?” Tyson raised an eyebrow, looking over to the street.
“That’s Red Light,” Ray pointed. “We don’t know how it happened, but a whole load of pimps, whores and drug dealers started operating down that street. Unlucky for us, it’s the only way to the grocery stores and the clubs.”
“Bummer,” Tyson blinked, trying to hide his amusement.
“You don’t want to get involved in that crap, Tyson,” Ray assured him. “The people that make their living down there are nine miles of bad road. There’s one guy that operates down there who’s particularly bad: Tala Ivanov. He doesn’t even attend this university, but he still has the largest gathering of whores at his disposal. He markets out men and women and most of the people he employs are getting money for their insatiable drug habits.”
“Yikes,” Tyson gulped, unsure as to whether he even wanted to go down that street, fearing that he’d implicate himself in some scandal.
“Well, let’s get this over with,” Max sighed, starting down the street with Ray and Tyson following. Tyson did his best to keep his eyes to himself, but he couldn’t help gawking at the people who were just stood there, waiting to be picked up, smiling at him in hopes that he’d pay up so they’d put out. His nerves building the further he walked in, his gaze finally fell on the figure of a young man. He was leaning casually against the wall of one of the buildings, a spotlight above him illuminating his figure. He was tall and slim yet quite well built, with two-tone dark hair and intense amethyst-coloured eyes. The moment Tyson’s gaze locked with that of this other man, his head started to feel light and his stomach tightened. No matter how hard he tried to look away, his gaze refused to leave the other man’s eyes. The two were just staring at each other, until the other man gave him a small smile before walking away. Noticing at this stage that Tyson had stopped, Ray and Max walked to his side.
“Who was that?!” Tyson asked, his stomach still knotted.
“That’s Kai Hiwatari. He’s a sophomore too. Doing our major as well, if I recall,” Ray replied, following Tyson’s gaze as Kai walked out of sight. “He tends to keep to himself, no one really knows what he gets up to outside of class. Virtually every girl in sophomore year has a crush on him, and half the guys do too, though none of them will admit it.”
“You think he’s into guys?” Tyson asked, still looking at the place where he had last seen Kai.
“No one knows. Some people claim they’ve seen him in intimate situations with guys, but there’s never been any evidence.”
“Come on guys!” Max wailed. “I have to buy cookies! I’m all out!”
“Max! You bought some this morning! Where did they go?” Ray exclaimed.
“Uh…I ate them?” Max grinned sheepishly and the pair carried on walking. Tyson remained where he stood, smiling.
“Kai…” he said softly before turning and running to catch up to his two friends. In his heart, he hoped he’d see him again.

Sitting impatiently on a short wall that fenced the Gym, Kai was waiting for a friend of his to arrive. Well, the person he was waiting for wasn’t really his friend. He’d never thought of him as a friend. Just his employer. Within minutes a red-haired man came into view, breaking out into a jog until he was at Kai’s side.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Kai asked blandly.
“Calm yourself Kai, don’t make me remind you who works for who,” the young man scolded, a smile on his pale face.
“I’m not in the mood tonight Tala. Just give me the job and let me go.”
“You’re awful touchy. Maybe I should raise the commission I have on your ass Kai. You are, after all, my biggest earner.”
“Can the shit and just tell me where I need to go.”
“Fine then,” Tala reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. “I got a call from another Post-Graduate. Goes by the name of Richard. He tells me that he’s heard of the work you do and wants you for tonight. He’s paying for a full works here, Kai, so you’d better put out.”
“Don’t worry I will,” Kai replied, extending his hand for the piece of paper. He read over the details quickly. “C Block, room 404. When does he want me?”
“An hour from now. He’s a Post-Grad Kai, so he’s got the cash to throw at you.”
“I’m not putting out for anything he hasn’t paid for. I don’t do freebies, Tala.”
“Not that kind of whore are you Kai?”
“Just shut it,” Kai frowned, pulling himself from the wall on which he was seated and beginning to walk away. As he made his way back to his dorm, he could see an angelic face with deep brown eyes burning in his memory. He stopped and turned back, noticing that Tala had left and that the person he had pictured wasn’t there either. “What was it…about him that I can’t forget?” Kai wondered out loud. Checking his watch, he realised he had no time to ask questions, so he picked up his pace back to his dorm to get ready for this evening. Sure, he was a whore, but he got paid for it.
That’s chapter one. Did you like it? Got any advice for me? It’s all helpful! See ya!
