Hot Summer Nights

Title: Hot Summer Nights
Summary: It\'s a hot summer night and Fesitval time in the city.
Rating: PG-13 (some Lime)
Pairing(s): Royai
Feedback: Much appreciated!
Author\'s notes: Inspired by the song Hot Summer Nights by Meat Loaf and the weirdest mental image I got of Roy singing it to Riza...The fic came about as a way to work the opening dialogue to the song into a fic. Oh, yes, it\'s from the song. I just couldn\'t resist myself. It\'s changed a bit to fit the fic but I owe the whole idea to Meat Loaf. The image wouldn\'t go away until I wrote it, and now here it is.

No spoilers for anything. Just a side story to...fit it in anywhere you like.

Warnings: MAJOR fluffage. Extra flouride treatments may be in order after you read this. It\'s a feel-good fic because I haven\'t been feeling good and wanted to write something fun.

Other warmings: Edwardus Interruptus and armor!Al. :snickers:

Disclaimer: Roy, et al, belong to that guy. Song lyrics belong to the other guy. Neither belong to me. Fic belongs to me.

It was a hot summer night and the full moon rode the sky, pearlescent and silent, watching from her ebony home high above the city, hanging so close that someone could reach out and take her if one were to just stretch out one\'s hand, thought Riza as she gazed upwards. It was like a giant pearl, softly glowing and turning everything to silver. A cool breeze blew in off the river, stirring the light summer dress she wore, twisting the light cotton around her legs. On a night such as this, with the bright lights and the lively music of the Summer Festival filling the city streets, and the gaily colored buntings fluttering in the breeze, she could almost forget the world was far from the picture of carelessness that it presented at this moment.

A hand grabbed hers and she found herself pulled off the street and down the steps to the riverwalk, close to the water. With a laugh, she ran along behind Roy Mustang while he lead her a merry chase through the throngs of party-goers until he found an area that gave them a bit of relative seclusion.

\"Roy,\" she gasped as he stopped and pulled her to him, arms going around her waist as he held her close. He gave her one of his sly grins and leaned against the railing and just looked at her.

\"What?\" she asked, feeling only slightly self-conscious at his gaze. At least in the moonlight, he couldn\'t see her cheeks go pink.

\"You,\" he said, still grinning.

\"Why are you looking at me?\" she asked, looking into the shadows where his eyes would be. Her smile was challenging.

He let go of her to reach into the inner pocket of his jacket and pulled out a single rose: A blonde rose still in bud of the kind was so fond of giving her. In the moonlight it was more silver than gold, however. He laid it upon her cheek and stroked it gently. \"Because I like to look at you.\" He trailed the delicate bloom down her throat to rest in the shallow dip at the base, a place he loved to kiss. \"You have a beautiful throat.\"

\"And you, Roy Mustang,\" she said firmly but with a smile to soften her words, \"are a terrible flirt.\" She took the rose and inhaled its delicate fragrance mostly to cover the fact that she had to be glowing. She certainly couldn\'t keep herself from grinning ear-to-ear.

Looking a little put out, Roy leaned his elbows on the railing. \"I\'m not. I\'m a good flirt.\"

Laughing, Riza turned to him, her eyes full of mischief. \"That\'s not what I meant. I meant that you\'re terrible because you flirt constantly. I saw you when you bought this,\" she said, holding up the rose. \"You bought two and gave one to the girl selling them.\"

Caught, Roy rubbed his neck to cover his embarrassment. \"Well, she was pretty, but it\'s not what it seems.\"

She looked at him sharply. \"Oh? Isn\'t it?\"

\"No. It was a thank you for having this particular color rose here tonight. So I *could* buy them.\" He leaned over and winked at her.

Riza, now the one caught in her trap, looked away with mock petulance on her face. \"You\'re still terrible. You\'re...you\'re like one of those...what do they call them? In the radio plays? A wolf. That\'s it. Always flirting and chasing skirts.\" She half turned away from him to lean on the railing.

Pushing away from the railing, Roy moved behind her and put his hands on either side of the railing, trapping her there. \"Oh, I am, am I?\" He peered into her face from the side; his lips were twisted into a sly grin. The grin that simultaneously made Riza go weak at the knees and want to smack him for being so smug and confident. \"If that\'s so, then...\" He leaned forward to plant a kiss on her shoulder where it joined her neck. \"On a hot summer night like tonight...would you...\" He trailed his lips along her throat to just under her ear. \"Would you offer your throat to the wolf if he gave you roses?\" His voice was a low whisper of breath upon her skin.

Riza gasped. The touch of his lips was like electricity upon her skin. She shivered; there was no resisting Roy when he was in a mood like this. Not that she wanted to resist, but those moods were becoming increasingly rare and moments like this were harder to find and thus both were more and more precious to her each day. She fully intended to make each last as long as she could.

Gathering her voice, she laid the rose upon his cheek. \"This wolf...the one with the roses...\" Her lips curved in a slight, secret smile. \"What would he offer me?\"

Roy ran his tongue along her shoulder. \"Ask.\"

Riza thought quickly. \"Would he offer me his mouth?\"

He responded by laying kiss after kiss upon her shoulder, working up towards her neck. \"Yes.\"

\"Would he offer me his...teeth?\" Riza asked, tilting her head to the side to let him have better access to her throat.

She nearly collapsed when he applied his teeth ever so delicately and deliberately to the pressure point in her neck. \"Yes,\" he said softly, baring down.

Several breaths later, Riza found her voice to continue their banter. \"And would he offer me his...jaws?\" She trailed the rose along his jawline.

The man behind her straightened, leaned forward and with one hand under her chin he pulled her face around so he could kiss her, long and hard and deep.

\"Yes!\" his reply, when he released her, was more urgent this time.

By this time, Riza was feeling extremely aroused. His touch, his voice, their teasing wordplay...They all combined to make her feel a need--a hunger--for him that bordered on desperate. She could tell it affected him the same way: His hands were roaming over her body, bunching up her dress and pulling her hips back against his. His arousal was easily felt through the light material of his linen slacks and her cotton dress. Riza was feeling particularly warm in areas she longed for him to touch...

With a ragged breath, she leaned her head back and looked up at him, searching his eyes. \"And does he offer me his hunger?\"

Roy\'s breath caught. He laid his hands flat against her abdomen, intimately low, fingers brushing the place her legs branched out from her body but not quite touching, and thrust forward with his hips. \"*Yes*!\"

Gasping, Riza\'s eyes flew open and she felt him, hard and hot against her backside. She twisted one shapely arm up behind his neck and turned her face to him. \"And will he starve without me?\" she grated out. God, she so wanted to be someplace with Roy and a bed right now...

\"YES.\" His voice was desperate, pleading. The two of them moved together like that, unconscious of the world around them, surrounded by the darkness with the moon shining down and for a time nothing else existed. The mist from the river drifted in and surrounded them, adding to the timeless feeling. Without really knowing what she was saying, Riza whispered in a voice so light as to almost be the mist itself:

\"And does he love me?\"

Arms tightened around her to hold her close to him, if that was possible. Several timeless moments passed in that mist-filled, silver-lit world they had created with just their words and their voices and their heat and their desire, but when he spoke, his voice, too, was barely a whisper upon the breeze, a breath, a wisp of night fog upon her neck; felt rather than heard.

\"Yes.\"

Riza\'s heart jumped and her breath caught in her throat. She licked her lips, smiled and whispered, \"Yes. I would.\"

And they stood way for an eternity, just listening to each other\'s hearts beat, to each other breath, feeling each other\'s presence, enjoying the closeness. The moment, stolen from the chaos their lives were spinning into, was too precious to interrupt. However, try as they might to forget the outside world, the outside world would not forget them as the sound of one of the Elric brothers calling for them in the distance revealed. With a small sigh, Roy put his mouth to her ear and whispered, \"Would you offer your throat to the wolf who gave you roses?\" His arms kept her pinned tightly against his chest.

Smiling, Riza nodded. \"Yes.\"

Looking above her head, Roy grinned savagely. He tweaked her ear with his teeth before whispering into that delicate shell:

\"I bet you say that to all the boys.\"

\"Ye--What?\" Riza twisted around, pushing against him as he released her and danced away out of arm\'s reach. \"What the hell does that mean?\" She made as if to smack him with the rose she held.

\"Ah ah!\" he scolded, catching her wrist and saving the delicate flower.

\"What did you mean by that crack?\" she demanded, trying to pull away from him.

\"Nothing, my lovely Riza. Nothing at all.\" Laughing, he pulled her to him and with a hand on her hip, pinned her to him so he could kiss her.

It didn\'t take long for her sag against him into it. When he pulled away, she looked up at him with eyes gone soft again. \"You\'re horrible.\"

Roy grinned in the darkness. \"I know.\"

From almost overhead, came an all-too-familiar voice. \"COLONEL! FIRST LIEUTENANT! YOU\'RE GOING TO MISS THE FESTIVAL!\"

They both winced as Edward Elric\'s strident voice ripped away the last vestiges of their isolation. Riza lowered her head to Roy\'s chest and groaned, but Roy laid his cheek upon Riza\'s golden hair and laughed softly.

\"That boy...\"

\"Is so dead,\" Riza finished for him, laughing into his shirt.

\"Hey! There you are!\" Ed leaned on the wall above them and glared. \"Come on! There\'s food!\"

\"Brother! Stop!\" Al\'s voice came from behind his older brother\'s form and they could hear him tugging him away. \"Leave them alone!\"

\"What? They are! They\'re just standing down there!\" His voice grew more distant.

\"You have no sense of--Oh, you just have no sense at all!\" There was a metal clang, followed by a *thud*.

\"Ow! What was that for?\"

\"Just for.\"

Roy sagged back against the railing, silently shaking his head and laughing. \"I suppose we should get back before others come looking for us.\"

\"Do we have to?\" Riza asked, uncharacteristically reluctant.

Searching her face, Roy raised an eyebrow at her. Then he took her hand and pulled her along the walk back towards the stairs. \"Yes. Because, you, my dear First Lieutenant, haven\'t danced with me yet.\" -

\"Roy!\" she exclaimed. \"You know I can\'t dance!\"

\"Then it\'s about damn time you learned, isn\'t it?\" He stopped, gave her a quick kiss, then they were gone, up the steps, leaving behind the river, the mist and the moon in her ebony home high above.

On a hot summer night.
