Brief Description: What happens when Edward and Alphonse encounter a powerful new alchemist traveling the countryside?
Note: This does not follow the actual FMA story. I have kept somethings the same, but have changed somethings too.

Chapter 1: A Crossing Of Paths
Edward was on another mission to find the Philosopher's Stone when him and his brother happened to arrive at their destination. A thick overgrown forest where mysterious things are said to have occurred. In the past, many thieves have used the forest as cover to surprise their helpless victims but lately there have been reports of strange alchemy occurrences stopping the thieves from attacking.
Ed and Al were sent to investigate the strange alchemy and report back to Colonel Mustang. Lieutent Hawkeye had given Ed a set of pistols after he had finished his firearms training with her and he has become an excellent marksman, though he rarely needed the guns because of his automail arm and leg that had earned him the name FullMetal Alchemist.
Though both boys were great alchemist's, Ed was on the border of being the greatest alchemist in modern times. As they approached the forest, Ed looked back at the sun, knowing it would be days before he saw it again. This forest stretched miles and the boys had to find the source of the strange alchemy.
"Ed, I have a bad feeling about this." Alphonse said, his voice shaking from fright. Ed got the strange feeling that someone was watching them. He looked in every direction but couldn't find the source of this feeling. As Ed turned around to start walking again something attacked him from behind. Al turned just in time to get a kick in the face.
"So, your still on that useless quest for the Philosopher's Stone? When will you just give it up and accept your fate to live in those bodies? After all, you've been doing pretty good in them for the past three years." Said a very familiar voice. Ed turned his head towards the attacker to see Envy looking at him.
"YOU! The most disgusting sin of all." Ed looked at Envy with hatred.
Envy looked at Edward with confusion. "Gluttony's here too?" Envy asked looking around.
"I'm talking about you, you disgusting piece of shit!" Edward shouted as he got on his feet. Ed transmuted a blade from his metal arm and charged Envy. Envy easily dodged Ed's attack and hit Al as Al was getting back up. Ed charged again only to miss Envy and run straight into a tree. Ed turned around and got punched by Envy. Envy grabbed Ed and threw him at Alphonse.
"Your getting rusty, Edward. Have you been polishing your automail?" Envy asked with deadly sarcasm in his voice. Ed tried to get up but had a deep cut leading from his right thigh to his waist. "Aw, is it time to finish our fun already? I guess I'll make it quick." Envy taunted the injured alchemist. Just as Envy was getting ready to attack, someone kicked him in the middle of his back, sending him flying.
Envy looked back at a young boy, approximately fifteen, with spiked, blond hair and deep green eyes. "Who the hell do you think you are??? Attacking the great Envy like that!" Envy screamed at the young boy.
"Who I am is of no importance to you." The young boy replied calmly. "What should be of importance to you, is walking away from here with your own two legs."
Envy charged the young boy in rage and punched at him but the boy dodged with almost no effort. After a few minutes of Envy's futile attempts at hitting the boy he decided to return to his original task and finish off Ed. He charged at Ed and got three feet away only to get a foot to his chest and fly backwards into a tree.
"Who the hell are you! No one can attack me with so little effort!" Envy yelled, still frustrated. Envy ran towards them and threw a smoke bomb at their feet. When the smoke cleared, there were two Edward Elrics.
"Brother!" Al screamed shocked.
"Do you really think such an old parlor trick shall defeat me?" the boy said as he walked towards the Ed farthest from Al. "By the way, my name is Luka," the young boy said as he attacked Envy and forced him to transform back into himself.
"H-How did you do that?" Envy asked shocked.
"I'm not an alchemist, or not just anyways. I'm also an elemental, meaning I can control the elements. You can fool the eyes but not the elements." Luka said. Envy got up and ran as fast as he could.
"Come, I shall take you to my cabin and tend to your wounds." Luka lead the two boys through the forest, Al carrying the injured Ed.
~~~half an hour later~~~
"THIS is your cabin?" Ed exclaimed as he seen the building where Luka lived. "It looks like a mansion!"
"Well, most of it is just training space, and a very large library. It has many books on every subject." Luka explained shyly.
"Every subject? Does it have information on the Philosopher's Stone?" Al asked innocently.
"Actually, I think it does. It would be the most accurate information anywhere." Luka said proudly, gazing at the two in shock.
"Luka? How did you come about all these books?" Ed asked, curious as to the origins of the books.
"That is rather difficult for me to explain. I'm not entirely sure myself." Luka replied, looking at his feet. He led them inside his home and showed them around.
"Alphonse, you may go explore. I am going to tend to your brother's wound." Luka said as he had Al lay Ed down on a bed. As Al left Luka began to explain to Ed that his clothes would need to come off since it was such a big cut. Hesitantly, Ed agreed. Ed noticed that Luka had a gentle touch, despite whatever fighting skills he possessed. Once Ed's clothes were removed, Luka rubbed a mixture on Ed's cut. The mixture was unusually cool.
When Luka was finished, he gave Ed a blanket and they sat and talked for a while. Ed asking about Luka's life in the forest.
"So, what did you mean earlier? I asked how you came about all of your books and you said you weren't sure yourself." Ed asked, intent on learning as much of this boy as he could.
Luka sighed. "Well, I have many abilities. I'm not even sure where I got them from. I grew up in this forest by myself. I taught myself to read and since then books have just kept appearing in the library. As far as I can figure, every book ever written is in this library and I've read them all."
Ed gaped, "You must be a fast reader to read all of those."
Luka looked at him with a small smile, "That's another one of my abilities. I can read a book in less than a minute. I absorb the knowledge from the book." Luka smiled wider at Ed's face. "I can also heal just by touching and control the elements. Tell me, why do you hate your automail? It makes you a lot stronger than you would be if you had your normal limbs."
Ed looked shocked, "My automail makes me feel...inhuman. How did you know I hate my automail?" Ed asked, as an after thought.
Luka smiled at Ed's shocked face, "I can read minds and emotions. It comes in quite handy. That's how I knew you were being attacked and that's how I defeated your attacker. Would you care to tell me more about him? There are only certain things I can read."
Ed frowned as he searched for an answer. "He is a sin of man. He is a homunculi. There are seven of them. Each with their own goal. That one was Envy. He has the ability to change his form."
"...Interesting." Luka thought for a moment. "I shall let you rest. I recommend you stay in bed for a few hours. I will be back to check on you. Now, I should find your brother. Let's hope he is not lost." Luka gave Ed a smile as he made that comment. Luka left the room, closing the door behind him, to give Ed some privacy. Ed is the first human that Luka had actually spent time with. Luka had a strange feeling for the new boy. Since he has never been around humans before he doesn't know what this feeling is. Maybe he'll do some research on it as soon as he found Alphonse.
He found Al in the study, going through books. Luka watched with interest as Al read through book through book. Al finally stopped, growing frustrated trying to read all the books. Luka smirked as he asked, “What's the matter Al?”
Al faced him. “How could you have read all these books? There must be over a thousand!” Al exclaimed.
“Actually, over five thousand.” Luka responded amused. Luka walked over to Al and pricked his finger on the spike on Al's head.
“Why did you do that?” Al asked as a trail of blood ran down the front of his helmet.
“Pick up a book, put your palm on it, and concentrate on the book.” Luka commanded. Al did what he said and was shocked to find that he had read the whole book in a second without opening it.
