Vengeance
Vengeance
A short piece based on the fan-comic “Vengeance” by DeviantArt artist ~Cofie.
Disclaimer: FMA is not mine. The character Pride (Edo version) belongs to the creators of the fan-game Bluebird’s Illusion. The character Vengeance belongs to ~Cofie. Deviant ~Cofie, your fan-comic kung-fu is best. WORSHIP ~COFIE-SAN! WORSHIP, YOU PEONS!
Notes/Warnings: Slightly AU. Oh, and disturbing. Very, very disturbing. Seeing as only nine pages of ~Cofie-san’s fan-comic are up on DeviantArt so far, I will probably have to branch off in my own direction with this story after I reach that point. I sincerely hope the artist does not mind. If she does mind, she may feel free to contact me via my own deviant account, and assist me in hashing out the details I’ve missed. On with the fic!

“Al....”
“I trust you, Niisan.”
The words were all but whispered in the darkness of the Rockbell home. The lights had been shut off due to the storm outside; neither of the Elric brothers had wanted to risk a blown bulb distracting Edward from what he was about to do.
“You sure?”
The older brother’s voice was strained as he knelt, hands together, ready to place them on the chalk lines of the transmutation circle.
“You can do it. Only you can do it.”
Unlike his sibling’s, Alphonse’s words were spoken calmly. He trusted in his brother completely. He believed Edward could restore him the way he had promised.
“Al, if something goes wrong, you should know....”
“Nothing will go wrong, Niisan.”
Edward slowly lowered his hands toward the white lines on the floor, noting with unease how they shook. What if he had miscalculated? What if he did it wrong, and he lost Al forever? Just like mom.
“Al....”
He touched the circle, unleashing the alchemic power that would bring his brother’s body through the Gate.
The reaction seemed to last forever, growing so bright that Ed had to close his eyes and turn his face away. Silently he prayed to anyone who would listen: let it work. Let Alphonse be whole again. Please, please let it work!
The light began to fade, and Edward could open his eyes. As the darkness flowed back in, he just barely made out a figure inside the circle. Two arms, two legs, the gleam of human hair and human eyes—no twisted, misshapen creature of Hell, this, but a human being! Joy rushed into the alchemist known as Fullmetal, flushing his cheeks and making his eyes sting with tears. He lunged forward and threw his arms around his brother’s neck—warm human skin, soft human hair against his cheek—and clung for dear life. Human hands came up and lightly touched Edward’s arms.
“Silly little alchemist....”
Ed stiffened. Slowly, he raised his head to look into his beloved brother’s eyes. “Al…?”
The hands on his arms tightened cruelly around his biceps. The warmth of the alchemic reaction faded, leaving cold flesh in its wake. Outside lightning flashed, illuminating the room, and Edward’s eyes widened in shock and horror.
Black hair, black clothing, and hard, amethyst eyes in a once-familiar face. Alphonse dug his fingers into Ed’s arms and grinned the grin of the damned.
“Now look what you’ve done!”
Edward screamed.

Somewhere far away, the homunculus Envy leaned out over a balcony and stared into the distance. “A new Sin was born,” he murmured.
Lust looked over at him, curiosity rippling across her placid expression. “What makes you say that, Envy?”
Her elder “brother” did not even glance at her. “There are things I just know. I’m old enough.”
“Ah.” The female Sin uncrossed her arms and leaned away from the wall she had been standing against. A delicate hand came to rest on her hip. “Should I?”
“No.” The other’s reply was sharp, belying the carelessness in his next words. “I’ll bring him here myself. I was bored anyway.”
Envy moved away from his vantage point on the balcony, and fixed Lust with a meaningful look. “Meeting at the usual place in three hours. And don’t do anything stupid.”
“What if I get hungry?” Gluttony, the corpulent Sin next to Lust whined.
“Then you starve, Gluttony,” Envy replied disinterestedly.
Then, like a flicker of shadow, he was gone.
~*~*~*~*~*~
What am I?
The question lingered in the air for a moment, until a semi-buried memory bubbled to the surface as an answer: “Homunculus. Homunculi are created by the alchemists. They are the result of a failed Human Transmutation.” Just like a textbook quote, the words were crisp and clear inside the newborn creature’s mind. A sneer curled the thing’s perfect lips.
“Stupid alchemists…I hate them all....”
Black-swathed feet crossed the floor, leaving crimson footprints in their wake. A hand fingered the equally crimson cloak thrown over the back of a chair, and a smile came to the homunculus’ face. “But I like this cape. I’m not even sure why.” A finger traced the black sigil on the back of the garment almost lovingly.
There was a rustle of heavy fabric as the being once called “Alphonse” pulled the cloak onto his shoulders, slipping his arms into the sleeves with relish.
“A bit small,” he mused. “But feels so good.” He lifted a section of the red cloth to his face, rubbing his cheek against it like a cat marking its property.
With the cloak wrapped snuggly about his lithe form, the new Sin opened the front door of the Rockbell house and strode out into the night, a trail of bloody footprints trailing after him.
