The young blond lay sprawled out along the floor, a text book covering his face, as he apparently slept. The room itself was dark and cool. The curtains had been shut, a small light by a table was the only light in the room. It was the middle of the day, a hot day at that, but the blond slept comfortably on the cold stone floor. The quite tranquility of the make shift bedroom was shattered by a knock on the front door. The blond sat up straight, the book covering his face flying halfway across the room. He stood up and walked across the room, opening the door to the study. As he walked sleepily down the hallway toward the front door, he wiped some drool from the corner of mouth. He opened the door to see someone in a military uniform standing there.
"Hello Mr. Elric, we have a letter for you," said the military man. Edward stretched some, yawned and scratched his side before taking the envelope from the soldier. The soldier just saluted and walked off, leaving Edward on the front porch. Ed yawned once more before turning back inside, closing the door behind him. He sat down on a small couch in the living room, sliding a finger delicately along the top of the envelope. He pulled out the piece of paper inside, reading it over.
" Fullmetal, the date of your re-entry exam has changed to Wednesday. Be on time."
Ed read the letter and reread it, before attempting to throw it across the room, but much to his frustration it just gently fell back to earth. "Shit! Damnit Roy!" he yelled to the letter. He ran a hand through his hair contemplating his new situation. Today was Monday, giving him only another day to study. How had he gotten himself into this situation?
Three years ago he crossed over in through the gateway. He successfully managed in retrieving his brother's body, once again sacrificing his own. When he came back through Alphonse was back in his own body, Ed on the other hand was weak and sick, his body a mess. After spending so long in the hospital, he and his brother returned home to Risembool. Then after 2 years of healing and living with Winry and Pinako, the both decided to move back to Central, going their seperate ways. Al now 18 worked for a private research facility, living on the east side of town. After a year of jumping from job to job, Ed now 19, decided to rejoin the military as a State Alchemist, living on the west side of town. Little did Ed know that rejoining meant retaking the Alchemy Exam. A more difficult one to pass, than the one he had taken as a mear child, which brought him back to his current predicament. How was he ever going to pass the test with this short amount of time?
