short fic of the night. I really should be working on NaNo, but I needed a
break to think through my ideas. I think this is fluffy, but I can’t be sure.

He’s getting used to it.
To the heat on his side, the arms clumsyly thrown around
him, the slight puffing of breath on his shoulder as he wakes up. To finding
his papers messed up with, his meticulous order broken by the sudden
appeareance of scribled arrays and random notes on napkins. To the sound of
mocking laughter and the pleasured hiss of completion. To the blasted feeling
of fingers massaging his scalp and silky hair sliding through his fingers.
He’s getting used to it, and as he watches the sunset,
tinting the city in reds and goldens, he berates himself for it.

He’s craving it.
The roughness of their struggle, the muted cry of delight
when he eventually wins. The fluttering in the pit of his stomach when the
golden eyes glint in a mix of madness and need, the shiver that comes when the
promise is fulfilled. The tedious game of jibes and poking as they pretend to
ignore each other, the wicked smile of triumph when he gives in. The stunned
silence when he arches and just begs like a common whore.
He’s craving it, and as he watches the clock ticking
away, minutes dragging until dawn, he’s questiong himself about it.

He’s wanting it.
The actual words and the concequences that come with
them. The knowledge and security that will eventually damn them both to hell.
The right to call him his, to wrap his arms around him and don’t ever let him
go, because he’s his. The tenderness as well as the cruelty, the
everything that makes up perfection in his mind. The sneer and the smirk and
the smile and the pout and the glare and every expression that he can conjure
up in his face.
He’s wanting it, and as he swallows up another unsaid
truth, watching the darkened streets that swallow him up, he screams at himself
for it.

He’s feeling it.
The unmistakeable feeling that turns his insides upside
down whenever he steps into the room. The consuming heat that threatens to melt
his very bones if he doesn’t do something about it. The desperate yearning for
something he can’t quite name, but which is standing right before him, smirking
and talking nonsense he doesn’t understand. The loss of control over his
methodic life, the startling realization he doesn’t care about it.
He’s feeling it, and as he’s pushed back on his – their –
bed, not really sure what caused it this time, he’s hating himself for it.

He knows it.
How horribly wrong this will end. How terribly hurt he’s
going to be. How much he’s going to hate him for this. How sad and
broken he is already, and how oblivious he is, and how asbsurd it all
ends up being, when he thinks about it. How utterly stupid he will feel, when
the other shoe drops, and he’s too content in his own cloud to notice. How
unfixable this mess is going to leave him, and how much it’s going to cost him
when it does. But he can’t but whisper the words again, leaving him
flagbastered and awed.
He knows it, and even if his promises are going to fall
through and his heart is going to be broken like a child’s, he’s already
pitying himself for it.
