Author’s Note: I have altered the song “Tiny Dancer” to fit the pairing. The only change made, ‘she’ becomes ‘he’. If you count rhythms and such, it still fits. I hope you enjoy!
Welcome to the Band
Heero worked on tuning his guitar. His messy chocolate bangs fell in his face, and he lightly shook his head to get them out of the way. The band he’s in, “Outer Range”, was in between gigs at the moment, so he had time to work on his guitar on the tour bus.
He barely glanced up as Trowa, the bands bassist, stepped onboard. “Hey Heero, you gotta check out this new seamstress Artie got us. Does a wicked job on costumes.”
With s resigned sigh, Heero stood. He knew no matter what he said to protest, Trowa would drag him to meet the latest member of the entourage anyway. It wasn’t often that Trowa asked him to do something, so this really must be somethin’ else.
They both approached the wardrobe trailer. Trowa lifted his fist to knock, but paused when two angelic voices sang out inside. One was obvious, the lead singer for their band, Quatre, but the other, the other was unknown.
Heero’s heartbeat sped up. Whoever was singing had a true gift.
Blue jean baby, LA man, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must've seen him, dancin' in the sand
Trowa knocked twice and then they entered. Quatre was singing happily from a seat off to the side, and the other voice was coming from a boy who was currently taking pre-calculated measurements and sizing up cloth.
Quatre was the first to notice the two entering and stopped singing, but still had an elated smile. “Hi guys! This is Duo, our new seamstress.” Heero and Trowa turned to look at Duo. Heero’s breath caught. The man was…beautiful. Lean body, around 5’6”, chestnut braid that touched the backs of his thighs. And what he was wearing! A tight black tank top and black cut off short-shorts. To his amazement, when the boy turned and looked at the two and then smiled, he had the most amazing violet eyes.
“Name’s Duo Maxwell. Pleasure to meet ya! Always loved your music,” the braided boy gushed as he shook Trowa’s hand, and then Heero’s.
“Welcome to the family,” Trowa said with a nod. He looked at Heero and then nudged him.
“Yeah,” Heero mumbled. To his surprise, his cheeks warmed with a slight blush.
Duo’s smile broadened. “Thanks fellas!” With that he spun around, braid dancing behind him, and went back to work. Heero found himself watching the tip of that braid, fidgeting to and fro across a very nice ass while Duo worked. Both he and Quatre resumed their singing as Trowa led Heero from the trailer.
“Very smooth man,” Trowa said as he headed for the tour bus.
“What?” was Heero’s intelligent response. Troubled by his reaction to the new wardrobe assistant, Heero decided he needed to go for a walk and figure things out.
Now he’s in me
Always with me
Tiny dancer in my hand
Walking along the side of a dirt road, about a mile away from the rest stop where the band parked, Heero was lost in thought. It was dark, and only the stars lit his way as he walked along, thinking about that boy. The image of him, smiling so easily at him, plagued him every time he closed his eyes. An eerily familiar voice shook him from his thoughts.
“Howdy stranger.” Looking up, surprised, Heero’s gaze landed on Duo, lounging on an old wooden bench. He had a handful of rocks, and was tossing them one by one at an old, rusty bus stop sign. His hand relaxed and the stones slid through his fingers. Swinging his legs over, he sat up, that same easy going smile on his face. “Fancy meetin a guy like you in a place like this.”
Again, Heero was frozen in place. He didn’t know how to respond, what to think. All he could do was stare helplessly into those amethyst gems. Duo stood and approached him slowly, casually. It wasn’t until the braided boy was nearly pressed against him that he realized he had even moved. “What’re you doin out here Heero?” Warm breath tickled his ear. The voice was low and sultry.
Something warmed in Heero, and as if his brain shut down and his heart took over, he reached out and pulled Duo flush against him. The boy didn’t protest, even went as far as to wrap his arms around Heero’s neck. Lowering his mouth to those plump, tempting lips, Heero took them in a greedy kiss. Everything seemed rough and rushed in the beginning, tasting one another for the first time. Slowly the kisses turned into leisurely meetings of the mouth, and then regrettably parted.
They each stepped back, Duo’s soft hands gliding down Heero’s muscular arms. Heero’s cobalt blue eyes were half lidded as he stared at Duo. He barely knew the boy, yet he felt so drawn to him. “There’s something about you…” Heero trailed off.
“Yeah, a lot of people say that,” Duo laughed lightly. For the first time since Heero had met him, Duo’s smile disappeared. A frown took its place. “Sure, I’m good at fashion design, but that’s not the reason why I took the job.” With that said, that casual smile came back.
“Why did you then?” Heero wondered aloud.
“I’ll give you one guess,” Duo said, that low, sultry voice back. His eyes glazed over and he stared intensely at Heero. With a smirk, he sauntered past the guitarist and headed back for the warm lights at the rest stop.
Heero spun around and watched him go. This was gonna be one hell of a tour.
