Summary: Saddened by Heero’s coldness, Duo leaves. After almost being seen, Heero reveals that he has feelings for Duo as well.
A/N: I have not completed this story. Basically, my thought process hit a brick wall. So either I’ll add on to it at a later date, or I’m allowing other authors to build off of it as well. Hope you like it!

More Than Hope

“It’s almost over,” Quatre constantly reassured. However, that reassurance had been holding true. It seemed the resistance was progressing, and soon the war would be over.

Duo pulled the needle through the fabric again. With a sigh, he looked up from the shirt he was mending.

The others sat around the open room. Their latest safe house was slightly my luxurious, though a little cramped. There was one large room that held several couches, a piano, and a mini fridge. Off to the side was the bathroom, and beyond that was the front door. Currently Wufei sat cross-legged on a love seat, reading a book. Quatre and Trowa were huddle close on another couch, speaking softly about what they wanted to do once the war was over. Furthest from Duo was Heero, who was tapping away at the piano. Soft music filled the room.

Heaving another sigh, Duo went back to fixing Wufei’s shirt. Unbeknownst to him, the other’s looked toward him, due to the fact that his anguished sigh was heard over Heero’s piano playing. Everyone looked on with a different degree of concern, though Heero and Wufei concealed it well.

Finished, Duo looked up to see everyone staring at him. “What?” he laughed nervously. His smile faltered as he looked around and no one would speak. Growing frustrated, he tossed Wufei’s shirt over to him. “There, done,” he stated with an uncharacteristic bitterness in his voice as he stood. “I’m going for a walk.” Without waiting for a response, he left the room.

Heero walked quickly down the beaten path. Duo had been gone hours, so Quatre had insisted someone go find him. Slightly fearful of having to deal with an angry Deathscythe pilot, no one offered. So with a sigh of his own, Heero ceased his playing and left.

Approaching the beach, Heero heard soft instrumental music playing. As his feet touched the sand, he looked to his left, spotting speakers with an iPod connected to them. Looking about, he suddenly felt taken aback.

Duo stood in the center of the beach, between the woods and the water. Softly he swayed to the music, and slowly his legs and arms moved with practiced grace. He fluidly moved to the music churning out of the beat up speakers. His hair was loose and flowed about him as he turned, eyes closed in bliss. The quiet crash of waves added to the surreal scene.

Careful not to interrupt the other, Heero made his way out onto the sand. Opting to not disrupt the other, he instead walked to the water, allowing his bare feet to be dampened by the ocean.

“What are you doing here?” Heero didn’t even flinch as Duo’s voice washed over his back.

“Quatre was worried,” he answered simply. Turning to face is fellow pilot, he instantly took in the sparkling amethyst eyes that gazed upon him with such scrutiny.

Each moment that Duo spent alone with Heero, he felt his heart break a little bit more. The other watched him with such indifference, always speaking to him in such a detached manner, he knew the boy before him could never return the feelings he had harbored for so long.

“Well he can worry then,” Duo mumbled, turning and stalking away from Heero. He grabbed his speakers from the sand and dropped them by his duffel bag his had hidden in the grass by the woods. Once the music was gone, the only sound on the beach was the crashing waves.

“Why?” Duo jumped out of his skin as Heero’s voice asked from directly behind him. He whipped around, prepared to tell the other how dangerous it was to sneak up on the god of death, when Heero practically tackled him into the bushes.

“Heero?” he squeaked before the other covered his mouth. Looking about, Duo spied some teenage girls, no older than they were, strolling along the beach.

Once they were gone, the Wing pilot removed his hand from Duo’s mouth and sat up, but made no move to leave the other boy.

It started as a chuckle, then turned to a laugh, and soon Duo was practically howling.

“What?” Heero barked, irritated by the others reaction to such a serious situation.

Sobered by the others anger, Duo kept the smile plastered on his face as he explained, “They were teenage girls Heero, not OZ. They wouldn’t have thought a thing of us being on the beach. Sure they might have giggled and talked about how cute we are, but they wouldn’t talk to us.”

Scowling and turning away from the braided boy, Heero released a sigh. “We’re still Gundam pilots Maxwell. They could have easily recognized us.”

Hurt flooded Duo’s eyes and heart. Heero still refused to call him by his first name. “After all we’ve been though,” Duo sorrowfully whispered. Standing shakily, he left the shelter of the bushes. His feet carried him from the shady forest to the warm beach. “I don’t understand,” he said softly to himself as tears rushed to his eyes. No longer caring what the other though of him, Duo staggered a few steps and fell to his knees in the sand. Burying his face in his hands, tears poured forth as his heart broke.

Confused by the others actions, Heero stood and followed at a distance. Soon, he realized what was happening. Duo was crying. The boy who he secretly cared for was so upset… It hurt him greatly, but he didn’t know what to do. His training told him to solely focus on his own well being, but his heart…

Striding towards the other, Heero felt purpose in his step. Once he was directly in front of the other, he reached down and caught the boy around the midsection and pulled him up, hugging his lithe body to his own powerful one.

Shocked, red tinted violet eyes looked up to him. Cool cobalt met the gaze, and in that moment, everything fell into place.

Slowly Heero leaned down, giving the other time to protest. When none came, he gently claimed Duo’s lips in a soul-searing kiss.

A/N: I really didn’t know where to do from here, so if anyone would like to add on, I’m leaving this up for grabs. I feel badly, because I know this fic has such potential. The only two things I insist upon from this story is, please follow my style. I’d hate for it to have such a drastic change on tone in the middle of it. And please continue to incorporate the song Tiny Dancer. It’s a personal favorite. Thanks! I hope you enjoy.
