I can vaguely remember a time
long ago

When the moon shone brightly
in the ebony sky

Yet the rain came down hard

And the wind howled in the
midst of storm

Lightning crackled in the sky

Making it glow in an awesome
flame

I remember how you could make
me smile

Just by calling out my name

You would run and laugh

Around me in circles

And I would run with you

To just learn my your spirit
went a flame

How was I to know that on one
bleak winter morn’

You would be gone

Away with the fading light of
dawn

I remember how your eyes
would light up as soon as you would see me

Always so at peace with
everything

And why you sang and rhymed

I guess it should have been
obvious to me

I was too blind

And you had to pay the price

Next time I see a light shining
amongst the dirtied alley’s walls

I’ll grasp it with these
calloused hands

Instead of letting it fade
into the desolate night sky
