A lie or the truth?
Something for April Fools'.
Title: A lie or the truth?
Pairing: RoyHughesRoy (indeed it is)
Rating: R-ish
Disclaimer no. 2: None of this is mine, I just wrote it for fun.
Word count: about 2600
AN: Takes place during the military academy. A moderated version of the story called 「嘘か誠か」 (Uso ka makoto ka) which is in a doujinshi by Colorless (sorry, can't read the title of it!).
There was an envelope on the desk. Hughes couldn't remember seeing it there before he had gone to bed last night so it must have appeared there in the morning. However, it was still very early. And on top of that, Roy was already gone which was almost a miracle as it was such a drag to get him up nearly every morning.
Musing such things still half-asleep, Hughes took the envelope in his hand and read the characters once again, this time with his glasses on. Yes indeed. It was addressed to him, with a rather messy handwriting it said "Hughes". And since it was okay to open it, Hughes tore the envelope to pull out the piece of paper inside it.
Come to the yard before the first lesson. Roy Mustang
And that was it. For a while Hughes could merely stare at that one single line and scratch his head. He didn't have the slightest clue of what his roommate was thinking, only that he was acting very strangely all of a sudden.
Better go and check out what's gotten into him, Hughes thought to himself and quickly finished getting dressed before he left the room.

"You're late, Hughes!" Roy said angrily turning to face him as soon as he had heard his footsteps.
"On the contrary you're early, Roy. And that's really unusual," Hughes said lifting his hand to greet the other boy.
"That's enough. There's no time for chitchatting," Roy said with such a grim face that Hughes thought it was better to listen to what he had to say.
"Hughes, the thing is…" Roy started then, his expression changing completely as he spoke.
"Yes… What is it?" Hughes asked noticing how his tongue had suddenly gotten so thick and dry that it almost got stuck to the roof of his mouth. His whole body seemed to be getting quite tense as he was waiting for Roy's following words.
"Hughes," Roy said with such a gentle voice that Hughes could hardly believe that he really had the ability to talk like that, too. "I like you. Will you go out with me?"
"W-wh-whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!" It certainly was a whopping shock to hear him say that, it was nothing that Hughes could have expected. As far as he was concerned, he wouldn't have guessed that a guy like Roy would say such words to anyone. Vice versa, he was the one who was asked that question over and over again, wasn't he?
Although Hughes was undergoing something so exceptional that his brain was currently in serious malfunction, he could still grasp a brief memory of how he had talked about the matter with Roy once some time ago. Like what kind of a person were they interested in and what it would be like to date someone. But that time the conclusion had been rather harsh for them both: there was already enough to do with the military academy and on top of that Roy had extra studies for becoming a state alchemist in the future. Therefore, it had been obvious that there was no time for girlfriends anytime soon. So what the hell was this then?!
"Erm… Ummm… Well…" Hughes tried to buy time because he really didn't know what to say.
"Whatever," Roy interrupted him. "It's fine for you think about it, as long as you give me a proper reply during today."
And with a suspicious and even somewhat smug smirk on his face he began to walk away from Hughes, towards the closest door of the school building and the first lesson of that day.

For a few hours Hughes couldn't think about anything but Roy's words. Thus the lessons and time passed by but Hughes hadn't taken any notes, not to mention paid any attention to what they were supposed to do for homework.
Eventually, after lunch he went into another classroom where a couple of his closer classmates were talking about something. Hughes greeted them and sat down in a chair to listen to what their story was about. At that point he was abundantly desperate and wanted to forget about Roy, at least for a while.
The guys were talking about an accident that had happened earlier that day to one of their professors. It had been something so bad that he had been taken to the hospital immediately.
"Honestly?!" Hughes was surprised to hear the news.
"Oh man, get real!" The other boy said and began to laugh loudly. "You should see your own face!"
"So you really didn't notice what the date is today? Well, we kinda thought so and wanted to fool you since you're always like that, hahaha," the boy with freckles added laughing.
"Today… Isn't it… April 1st, right?" Hughes muttered.
"Yeah, that's it. And today's the day when it's okay to fool anyone," the freckled boy pointed out with a wide grin on his face.
That grin and those words brought back the memory of what had happened with Roy in the morning. His goal must have been just to fool Hughes and make him feel very awkward. And obviously he had succeeded perfectly. After all Roy knew his target well enough to actually carry out such a plan. But why did it make Hughes feel sad and even worse than he had, before he had been told about the lies that people might tell to each other during the day? And why did he start to devote a considerable amount of his energy to only one single thought: is it a lie or could it really be the truth? He couldn't understand it at all.
Although the next lesson had already started, it wasn't something that Hughes could concentrate on. Because in his imagination he could only see Roy in front of him, asking the same question again, with that gentle, soft voice. But now his eyes were different from before. When Hughes looked into them, he saw the pleading within them and noticed how a tinge of red had appeared on Roy's cheeks.
Hughes… Roy pleaded his voice wavering a little.
It was almost as if he was in a dream but abruptly Hughes startled and made himself to wake up from it. There was absolutely no way that Roy could have been serious. He couldn't have meant what he had said. But why did Hughes still want it to be the truth? And why did he feel so very nervous about confronting Roy later on that day? Gradually he began to hope he wouldn't have to say anything and that the matter would just subside on its own.
-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-
Eventually the day was coming to an end when Hughes opened the door to his dormitory room that he shared with Roy.
"Welcome back, Hughes," Roy greeted him completely normally, just like he always did if he was in the room before him.
"I'm back," Hughes said rather nonchalantly, merely thinking about how to get in bed without getting into something weird.
"So how about the reply?" Roy added immediately with that same smug smirk on his face.
There had been hours and hours to think about it. But it had still been really hard to come up with a witty reply as Hughes wasn't quite ready to fall into Roy's trap. Even more than that, he had gotten scared of his own feelings that, in spite of all, had implied that he would have truly wanted Roy's words to be the truth.
"What if I told you that I like you?" Hughes said after a passing silence.
"Wouldn't it mean the feelings are mutual?" Roy remarked still smirking.
Hughes couldn't help but wonder what Roy was truly thinking about. Somehow he would have to find out, as soon as possible.
"Roy," Hughes started as he moved closer to his roommate. "Now that we know the feelings are mutual, why don't we kiss?"
When Hughes stared into Roy's eyes, he noticed how the smirk disappeared somewhere and was replaced with a slight bit of nervousness that showed on his face. At least that was how it seemed and thus Hughes thought the foolishness was going to end right there. But then…
"…go ahead," Roy said with quite a straight face.
Right then Hughes felt so pissed that he decided to go for it, simply stopped caring about whatever the consequences might have been. At least now he had this one exceptional chance to have Roy's lips for himself, taste them and feel them with his own lips for a while.
So far Hughes hadn't been kissing that much in his life, only a few times, so he wasn't sure how it would go in the end. Especially, since it was with another guy, on top of that with Roy, his roommate. But the truth was that it was basically Roy's fault that they had gotten into this strange situation in the first place, and therefore he would just have to deal with whatever was going to happen from now on.
Slowly Hughes cupped Roy's face with his hands and brought their lips together. It was supposed to be a gentle kiss, one that would last only for a short while, just that their lips would brush against each other. And at first it was pretty much what happened. But when Hughes had decided to pull back, because there was no way he was going to show how enthusiastic he could be about a mere kiss, Roy was drawing nearer expressing clearly his urge to continue kissing with him. Hughes was so taken aback that he didn't know at all how to react until Roy's tongue was brushing and licking his lips, teasing them to make him open his mouth. He couldn't have guessed that Roy had actually wanted a proper kiss. Naturally Hughes didn't have anything against it and thus he let Roy slip his tongue into his mouth, and shortly get entangled with his own tongue.
In the end Hughes didn't know for how long they had been kissing, brushed the inside of each other's mouths with their tongues, sucked each other's lips, and exchanged a lot of saliva, but before long they had had to let go to gasp for breath. Feeling Roy's hot breath right against his face was something Hughes had never felt before, not with anyone.
"…Ummm, your lips are much softer than I thought," Hughes managed to mumble.
"Don't say such disgusting things!" Roy snapped back at him although Hughes had meant it as a compliment.
"But Hughes…" Roy continued when Hughes hadn't said anything in return.
"What is it?"
"…nothing," Roy said turning his back to Hughes and walked straight out of the door leaving the puzzled boy all by himself in their common room.
After the door closed behind Roy, Hughes shook his head for a while and sighed. What a day it had been and it wasn't like that kiss would have settled anything. In fact it had made things a lot worse but it took a while before Hughes realized what exactly had happened to him. The distance from his brain to his crotch shouldn't have been that long, but all the same he had been standing there motionless for over a minute before the message finally got through to him.
When Hughes bent forward, he could easily see the overgrown bulge between his legs. No wonder he had been feeling somewhat uncomfortable. Now that Roy had left the room, there was no time to think about it since it was better to act and get over it as quickly as possible.
Hughes tossed himself on his own bed and crawled under his blanket. Lying down with closed eyes he brought back the memory of the kiss, like that it was easier for him to recollect how it had felt, what it had been like. Just a firm grip of the waistline of his trousers after unzipping his fly and a fierce tug at his underwear to remove the unnecessary clothing, was what it took to free his growing arousal from its cramped recess.
What stunned Hughes the most was how different his erection was to its usual state. It wasn't the size or the stiffness but the stickiness. With his other hand Hughes lifted the blanket to check up on whatever it was. If he hadn't known better, he might have thought that he had peed in his pants or experienced a premature ejaculation but it didn't seem to be either one of them. There was just an excessive amount of precome covering nearly the whole of his length.
When he thought back, he remembered pretty well that lately there had been no time to jack off. That might have been one of the reasons why his cock seemed so lively, but… At least a part of it must have been Roy's fault. The kiss must have awakened the sexual urge of a healthy young man which Hughes was very much indeed. And now, more than anything, he craved for a quick release for he didn't know when Roy was going to return.
Under his blanket Hughes took his erection firmly in his fist and started to stroke it gently, and shortly those strokes became faster and harder thrusts into his hand. It was really good but for a few seconds he thought it would have been even better if Roy had been there, if it had been Roy's hand, if Roy's lips had still been on his own… All of a sudden he stopped and panted heavily.
What the hell am I thinking about? Although… Roy did mention "going out"… Hughes thought while he was trying to catch his breath. If he's like that… And he sure is like that, I'd certainly go out with him!
For the rest of the time that it took before he came all over his hand, clothes and blanket, Hughes allowed himself to fantasize what it would like to be with Roy more intimately than they had been before as roommates. The way how all of it was something that must have been highly illicit, imagining a sexual situation with another boy who was familiar to him, made Hughes feel even more excited than before, and all the better when he finally reached the climax and shook all over after the orgasm. Deep within he wished he wouldn't have to leave the warm and cozy nest that his bed had become, but he knew it was useless to fight. If Roy came back to see what he had just done, everything between them would get even worse and that was certainly something Hughes didn't want to happen.
-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-o-x-
In the middle of the night Hughes could only toss and turn in his bed, although he had had a refreshing shower and changed the sheets before Roy had finally come back to hit the sack as well. The only thing Roy had said in the dim room was "good night". And naturally Hughes had replied by saying "good night, Roy", but it was so different than before.
Once again Hughes sighed and shut his eyes to force himself to get some sleep. But nothing helped, no matter how much he tried. When the alarm clock went on in the morning, Hughes hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. Throughout the night he had only been thinking about Roy and worried about their relationship.
Yawning loudly Hughes forced himself to get up and was about to turn to Roy to wake him up like always. But little did he know that the other boy hadn't slept at all, either…
