Kiss of Death

Wufei locked his door as quietly as possible. He hated when his parents heard the lock click and would come to check up on him. He would get fully aroused, start playing out a fantasy, and go completely limp when his mother would knock on the door, asking if everything was alright. Living with his parents was only frustrating at times like this. Taking a deep breath before starting a slow count all the way to one hundred, Wufei finally decided that it was safe to start playing.

He knew he didn’t have long. Dinner was almost ready, and they insisted that he eat at the table with them. So he didn’t waste any time pulling his pants around his waist and took a firm hold on his shaft. Within ten strokes he was fully aroused and ready to really go at it but the knock on his door stopped him.

“Are you alright Wufei? Your mother says dinner is ready.” The Asian frowned at the now flaccid member in his hand before sighing and replacing his pants.

“I’m be right out.” He tried not to let any of his disappointment come through his voice, but he knew he failed when he opened the door and both of his parents were there.

“Your door was locked, is everything okay?” Wufei nodded as he walked passed them toward the dining room.

His parents lived in the dark ages. Apparently, since touching yourself was improper in their time, they still thought it was improper. He could remember only a week ago when he had been so horny he had forgotten to lock his door. By that time of course, he had already gotten naked, had two fingers inside of himself and was just on the brink of orgasm. And his parents didn’t understand what ‘knocking’ meant so they had come looking for him and were…less than happy with what they found. They hadn’t spoken to him for nearly two days before his father broke down and told him exactly what they had thought of what the boy had been doing.

After that embarrassment had passed, Wufei hadn’t had the courage to do it again. Oh man…and trying to explain why he had fingers up his ass. That had been a mortifying experience. So, he had just come out with the truth. He was gay. That little bombshell had landed him three more days of silence. He knew they wouldn’t like it, but he really didn’t care. They wanted honesty, they would have to deal with the answers that brought. Dinner finished and Wufei knew better than to close his door again, so he didn’t. He had gone to bed like the good little boy that they expected him to be.

The next day, followed as all previous days. He was really getting sick and tired of this routine. Get up, shower, get dressed, eat, go to work, come home, eat then go to bed and start all over. Today though…today he had gone to work and then made a few phone calls. He didn’t have any real friends. He didn’t have time for them or his parents didn’t approve of them. No, he finally called the owner of an apartment complex. They had met, spoken and Wufei had gone home in a very good mood.

“I’m home.” It was something he hated doing, but he knew if he didn’t call out, they would come looking for him.

“Oh, honey, come in here for a moment please.” Wufei sighed, but followed the sound of his mother’s voice, knowing they wouldn’t be pleased if he didn’t.

“Who’s this?” There was a pretty little black haired Asian dressed in a kimono sitting across the table, which was a traditional table that sat very low to the floor and lacked seats, from his parents.

“Wufei, this is Meilan, she’s your fiancée.” Wufei was quiet for so long, that his parents almost thought he was going to accept what they had just given him.

“There is no way in hell that I’m marrying her.” Wufei spoke very calmly, making sure that there would be no misunderstanding. “I know you are both very traditional, but an arranged marriage? It’s not going to happen.”

“Don’t you take that tone of voice with us. You will marry her because we say you will.” Wufei was livid. He had come home moderately happy and had immediately had his good mood ruined by a fiancée…and a woman at that.

“I’m not five years old anymore. I can make my own decisions…or is this because I told you that I like men?”

“What?” It was the first time the young woman had spoken since she had been introduced to the black eyed Asian.

“I’m gay. I like men.”

“No, no he doesn’t, he’s just confused dear. Meilan, he doesn‘t know what he wants, he‘s still young, he‘s been trying a few things, but he‘s just confused.” Wufei let out a soft frustrated sigh.

“I’m not confused. I’m gay, and it’s not going to change just because the two of you don’t think it’s proper.” His parents looked mortified by his admission, but the girl his parents had wanted him to marry was the one to speak next, just as calmly as he had.

“I think I should go.” As soon as the girl had left, both of his parents started yelling. Wufei just frowned at them before going to his room and locking the door. It was unlike his parents to get this hot headed over anything, regardless of if they didn’t like it or not.

His parents kept screaming through the door, but the Asian had turned on music loud enough to drown them out. They acted like they were living in ancient China. It wasn’t that he had expected them to accept his sexuality, that was one of the main reasons he hadn’t told them, but he really hadn’t expected them to do something so old fashioned as an arranging a marriage for him. Groaning as the pounding on his door got worse, he decided to try a slightly different tactic. Plugging in his headphones, the Asian flopped onto his bed and started his normal search for an apartment.

It wasn’t that he hadn’t found one that he liked, it was just ridiculous how expensive the apartment was. It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford it, he was just going to save up enough to afford the deposit, first and last month’s rent as well as have enough for food. If he could just save up that much, he would move out to the apartment he had heard about today and he wouldn’t have to worry about pleasing his parents anymore. All he had to do was wait for his next paycheck and he would have enough to move out. He really couldn’t wait to be free of them.

2 * 5 * 1

He didn’t get the chance to wait for his next paycheck. His parents were strict, he knew that, but honestly, he hadn’t expected them to change locks on him while he was at work. Wufei had to admit…he panicked, but it really wasn’t as bad as it had first seemed. Pulling out his cell phone, which they didn’t have any right to turn off since he was paying for it, he made a phone call to the real estate agent he had talked to the day before.

She was nice, he decided the moment he met her. He hadn’t even had to explain what had happened, and Dorothy Catalonia hadn’t asked. She had only asked if he had the down payment and when he had softly admitted that he didn’t, the blonde woman had nodded and taken him to another unit and sat down with him. Dorothy had offered him food and drink, but he turned her down. He really just wanted to know if there was some kind of deal they could make so he could pay the rest at a later date.

“Well, I’m not going to pry, but I do have one option open.” Wufei nodded, he would do just about anything to make sure he could stay here. “You see, the manager of this apartment complex is moving, which leaves me without a manager.” He nodded again, waiting for her to take a sip of her tea before she continued. “I need a new manager, and you need a place to stay.”

“You’re asking me to be the manager?” Dorothy tilted her head to the side, studying the boy before she answered.

“Live in managers do a lot of work, Mr. Chang. It might sound nice with the free rent, but you would be on call all the time. It is sort of like being a maintenance man. If there is a problem you can fix, you fix it. If not, you hire someone to do it. Collect rent, do background checks on any new tenants that want to live there…that sort of thing.”

“So I’d be on call…all day?”

“Twenty four seven.” She stated, acting as though she wasn’t sure what his reaction would be to this little stipulation.

“When exactly would I find time to go to work?” He didn’t ask it accusingly, he really wanted to know.

“Most complex managers consider that to be a full time job. I don’t think I’ve ever had a manager that had another job. Besides, this makes good money and you get all the amenities of being a tenant without having to pay for them.”

Wufei didn’t have much choice. He could have said no to her offer, but where would that leave him? Out on the streets or…going back to his parents. She had been right though. It was going to be a hard job. He hadn’t even put his bag down in his bedroom before someone knocked on the door. Dorothy had answered it, explained that Wufei was going to be taking care of their problems from now on and had wished him luck before leaving.

Most of the things he had to deal with were simple. A burnt out light bulb in the walkway, leaky faucet, plugged sink. He could do most of it by himself, but there were those odd occasions that something would happen that he just couldn’t fix. He had called Dorothy on those days and asked if there was some special plumber or electrician that they went through, but there never was so it was up to Wufei to choose who to hire. He had quit his job, but as Dorothy had promised, this job actually made quite a bit of money…if you could overlook being woken at three in the morning to unclog a toilet.

It wasn’t until nearly a month later that he got his first housing application. He had felt bad about calling Dorothy over, since this was his job, but she had been very patient with him and walked him through exactly what needed to be checked out on the man applying to live there. Wufei met him when he had turned in his housing application, and he had to say…the man was gorgeous. Not his type, but still gorgeous. Long blonde hair that was nearly white and icy blue eyes…gorgeous, but he enjoyed the…darker varieties.

“So…how soon do you think I can get into the apartment? I’ve been having some trouble lately and I could really use a place to stay as soon as possible.” Wufei hadn’t even hesitated to offer this man his couch for the next few nights. After all, what kind of hypocrite would he be if he sent the man away when he himself had just needed somewhere to stay. The man had looked shocked, but he hadn’t turned him down.

“If you want to put your things in the living room, I don’t have a problem with it.”

“Yeah, thanks. If you don’t mind, can I actually come back tomorrow? It’s kind of a long drive to here from my place…my old place.” Wufei nodded and returned the bright smile the man had given him, before closing and locking the door behind the man. Well…this was going to be interesting.

“Well, he does have a red aura.” The platinum haired man stated.

“That’s what Dorothy thought. So, exactly how do we go about getting a Tenshi to Limbo? It’s different than just taking a soul, isn’t it?” Milliardo nodded at the question.

“It consists of the same physical action. Taking a soul is taking a soul, but we need to be more careful with Tenshi’s. When we take them, we have to make sure that their families will be fine with losing them…or that they will be fine with losing their family. If not…there is the chance that a Tenshi will refuse to do as needed and their soul will be sent to be reborn. So it is a little different than just taking someone’s soul.” Shinigami frowned.

“Think my wings are too noticeable to go try for myself?” The blonde smiled to the God of Death.

“On the contrary, I think that if we could find you the proper trench coat, you would be able to walk around without drawing any attention.” Duo smiled at one of the men that had been so nice to him. He and Treize had been lifesavers. They had both made sure he knew how to do everything needed to take control of Limbo. They were his…advisers. If he didn’t know how to do something, he could ask them without being ashamed. Duo had learned quickly not to ask other Tenshi’s how to do things, they always looked at him as if he should know without being told.

“Let me guess-”

“Treize has already found you one and we can leave in the morning.” Duo nodded in affirmation. He didn’t want to ask, but he had to.

“Think he could be one of mine?” Milliardo smiled at the look of hope in the God of Death’s eyes. He knew very well that Duo and Heero were getting along rather nicely, but he could feel the underlying curiosity to find his other Tenshi’s.

“The colors that make up Shinigami’s Angels are rare. Very rare, in fact. There is a possibility, but that doesn’t mean that we can say for sure until he comes here and we can see if he gets wings.” Duo smiled in what Milliardo thought was quickly becoming a trademark way of his before he spoke again.

“Is he pretty?” The platinum haired man laughed at the question and the slight leer the God of Death gave him.

“He’s Asian, Chinese though instead of another Japanese and he has black hair and black eyes and that’s all I’m telling you. You’ll just have to wait till tomorrow.” Duo pouted but quickly regained his smile.

“I’m going to like him, aren’t I?”

“Even if he isn’t your’s, you might just invite him into your bed anyway.” Shinigami nodded slowly. He didn’t want anyone in his bed but his lovers, and everyone knew it, but Milliardo sounded certain about this. Damn, the boy must have been very pretty for even Milliardo to take an interest in him, since he was more than satisfied with Treize. He would just have to wait and see for himself.

2 * 5 * 1

“Welcome back, Mill…ia…r…do.” The Chinese couldn’t even form a coherent word for a few moments after that. The boy standing next to the platinum haired man was…god like.

“This is my brother, Duo.” The man stated, quickly biting the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. …” The blonde would not laugh at how breathy Shinigami sounded, he would not laugh.

“Wufei.” He couldn’t say anything else. If Milliardo had been gorgeous, his brother was more than perfect.

“I know I didn’t say anything about bringing my brother, but-”

“No, no, it’s okay, I just…don’t have anywhere for him to sleep.” Wufei could actually speak, just so long as he didn’t look at the boy with the long braid hanging over his shoulder…or those lovely violet eyes or his body, which was annoyingly covered by a trench coat.

“Actually…I have one more trip to make, so he can sleep on the couch tonight. If that’s alright with you.” Wufei found himself nodding before he actually thought about what that would mean. A gorgeous boy was going to be sleeping on his couch…no, no…he was probably straight. The prettiest ones were always straight.

It had been hours since Milliardo had left him alone with the Chinese. He had been right though, Wufei really was pretty. They had hardly spoken since the platinum haired man had left, but that was more than fine with Duo. He was enjoying just watching the boy move around his apartment. Milliardo had given him strict rules on what was and was not allowed before he had thought it was alright to bring him here on his own. Most of the rules were common sense, like don’t tell anyone he was the God of Death, but some of them were a little bit more involved, like don’t fall asleep on earth.

Wufei had gone about his day as normal…even if it was a little unnerving to have someone watching him do it. The braided boy hadn’t even spoken to him, but he sure was pretty to look at. Not that Wufei would try anything with him, especially since he didn’t want to lose his new job and his apartment, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t look. Which he did every chance he got, but those violet eyes would always meet his and he would look away quickly, trying not to blush.

“So ‘Fei, you’re kind of young to be out on your own, aren’t you?” The Asian blushed again as he turned away from the table he had just set two plates on, to grab the food he had made.

“I’m nearly twenty. Besides, I got kicked out and I refuse to do what my parents force me to, just so I have a place to stay.” Well, that was good for Duo.

“What did your parents want you to do?” Wufei paused as he was dishing out the rice he had made. Why had he brought his parents up? It wasn’t like he had to worry about them anymore.

“Get married.” He conceded with a sigh before grabbing the teriyaki chicken he had fried up and poured it over the top of the rice.

“Ouch.”

“No, ouch was the fact that they picked someone out for me.”

“An arranged marriage?” Duo asked as he sat at the table and started eating. “That’s a little old fashioned, isn’t it? Let me guess, they chose a pretty little girl that they thought would be absolute perfect to reign in their wild son.” Wufei found himself laughing at the tone the boy had used.

“That’s just about right.” He agreed.

“So, you turned them down, they kicked you out and here you are?” The Asian nodded. He hadn’t wanted to tell anyone about getting kicked out, but it appeared that the braided boy didn’t think any differently of him for being a ‘wild’ guy.

“What about you? What brings you and your brother here?” Duo couldn’t lie, but he could skirt around the truth enough to make it through this.

“We weren’t kicked out or anything, but we’ve been looking for people for the last couple months and someone told us that one of the people we’re looking for lives around here.” Wufei nodded slowly, that was good enough for him. If Duo didn’t want to share more than that, then the Chinese wasn’t going to push him for details. Wufei almost ignored the knock at his door, but he knew that even if he was entertaining a very pretty guest, he still had to work. Duo hardly hesitated after the door shut behind the Asian to make a quick phone call to his ‘brother.’

“Milliardo, would you stop by his parent’s house and find out what they think about him moving out? I’m pretty sure he’s either gay or just not interested in getting married, but either way, see if it will make the connection to his family easier to sever.”

“Already done, Shinigami.” The braided boy smiled, even though the platinum haired man couldn’t see it. He supposed there were some benefits to working with someone that had been in Limbo for much longer than he had. “He’s gay and his parents are in denial. They hardly let me in, but when they told me their son was getting married, I knew that had to be the reason he left. I may have told them that I knew they were lying because I was his boyfriend.” Duo let out a small laugh. He didn’t like lying, but it was funny as hell when someone else did it.

“What’s so funny?” Duo kept his smile as he hung up the phone and answered the Asian that had just come back to the apartment.

“My brother apparently just came out of the closet to his boyfriend’s parents.” Duo continued laughing, pretending like he didn’t notice how uncomfortable the Asian suddenly was.

“Your brother is gay?” Shinigami stopped laughing as he turned back to his food and quietly answered him. He had to make it look like he was just a normal kid that had to deal with these kind of things.

“Yes. So am I. Is there going to be a problem with that?”

“No, not at all.” The words that were coming out of his mouth defiantly didn’t match what he was thinking. Would there be a problem with Duo being gay? Yes, there was a big problem. Mostly that now that he knew the braided boy swung his way, he couldn’t keep his eyes off him. It wasn’t until Duo had finished getting ready for bed that he commented on it.

“I made you uncomfortable. I’m sorry…most people don’t want to talk to us after they find out that we’re both gay.” Wufei just shook his head as he went about turning off most of the lights.

“It’s not that you’re gay…I’m just wondering if you’re really brothers or if that’s just what you tell people so they don’t get freaked out that you’re really lovers.” Duo just couldn’t stop himself from laughing as he sat down on the couch.

“Well, he’s actually one of my best friends, and we both happen to be gay, but we aren’t lovers.” Duo waited for Wufei to join him in the living room before he continued. “No, my lover is perfect for me.” Wufei sighed as he sat down in the chair next to the boy. Of course he had a lover. He shouldn’t have expected any different. “What about you? Do you have a girlfriend…or boyfriend?”

“No, it’s not exactly proper to ask a guy out if you don’t know if they’re gay or not. Besides, I rather enjoy not getting the shit beaten out of me.” Duo knew better. This Asian may have been small, but there was no way that someone could beat him. He couldn’t see under that traditional white outfit, but Shinigami just knew that the boy would be nothing but hard muscles.

“So, that’s the real reason that your family tried to arrange a marriage for you, isn’t it?” Wufei just stared at the boy for a few moments. He could lie to him…make up an excuse to leave the room…but he didn’t want to. Duo seemed nice enough to him, and the fact that both of them were gay didn’t hurt. Not that Wufei would do anything with him, since the braided boy had said he had a boyfriend already, but that didn’t mean the Asian couldn’t look.

“Yeah…I was trying to move out before they found out, but that didn’t happen. I wanted to save up enough to move into an apartment, but they kicked me out before I could so Dorothy offered me this job in exchange for rent.” Now was the time that Duo wished Milliardo had stayed. He didn’t know how to bring up the subject of Angels and Limbo and being Shinigami…but he would have to try.

“Yeah, not having to worry about money or a place to stay is really nice. Your family…they don’t even care that you left?”

“They have my cell number, they haven’t tried to call me. I don’t think they’re going to have anything to do with me unless I marry someone before I talk to them again…anyways, I’m going to head to bed. Let me know if you need anything.” Duo wasn’t sure what to do. He couldn’t actually fall asleep here and become an Earth Bound…but he couldn’t leave the Asian either.

“Hey…how pissed would you be if you knew for sure that you would never see your family again?” Wufei turned from his bedroom door to look at the braided boy.

“Not at all. I’ve pretty much already come to that conclusion…why?” The Asian watched as violet eyes darkened when the boy slowly got up from the couch and crossed to him.

“Because you’re never going to see your family again.” Duo stated quietly before kissing the boy softly. Wufei was...shocked and intrigued and turned on and…a little worried about what Duo had said, but it didn’t matter soon because he found himself blacking out.
