a/n: So, I realize this is really out there, but I've been working really hard on this and I think it's an improvement from other things I've written in the past because I don't think I've ever been this creative before. Any feedback is appreciated.
Goku sat on the couch, staring awestruck at the tv, listening intently to what the news reporter was saying. He tried to follow it, but it was so unbelievable and confusing. He knew in a moment the reporter was going to start asking Bulma's father questions, and then it would get worse.
He looked over at Vegeta, who was leaning against the wall, arms crossed over his chest, a seemingly permanent scowl on his otherwise handsome face. "Are you getting this Vegeta?" he asked.
Vegeta rolled his eyes. Stupid Kakarot, of course he doesn't get it. "The universe is falling apart!" He snapped.
"Well why don't they just say that!?" Goku said, exasperated.
Vegeta rolled his eyes again and turned his attention back to the television, realizing the Woman's father was on. As annoying as the old coot was, Vegeta was curious to hear what he has to say, though he'd never admit it.
"Dr. Brief, could you please maybe explain what you believe is happening in a bit more detail?"
"Well, it's hard to say for sure, seeing as how I haven't really had a chance to figure out a way to really study this. But from what I've gathered...Well, let's put it like this. There's Earth here, of course and then out in space there are stars and all the other planets and that's basically the 'universe' right? Well, apparently, there is more than just one universe. The man found in East City for example.
The screen flashed to a picture of a strange looking "man." He was very short, probably no more than five feet and unbelievably thin-he couldn't have weighed more than 60 pounds. His skin was orangey, and a bit iridescent. Through the skin you could see tiny, bright yellow veins. His body was hairless, except for a shaggy, shoulder length mane of curly black hair. He wore only a crude, make-shift cloth covering around his waist. His head was freakishly round and his ears consisted of just a hole on either side of his head. His lips were thin and gray, and his teeth were the only thing other than his hair that looked human. He had a large wide, round nose, and four tiny, purple eyes all in a row.
"When he arrived, here on Earth," the screen went back to the young reporter and Dr. Brief. "No one could understand him, literally, not one person on this whole planet could understand what he was saying. It was very difficult to learn how to understand him, but after approximately three months-during which time he sporadically disappeared only to reappear shortly after six different times- I was able to learn that his name was Ruemoe, and he was from a planet called Majoria and that all the people there looked like him. He taught me everything he knew about his world."
"Like what?" The reporter asked, genuinely curious.
"Well, their people are generally peaceful, unless severely threatened. Their whole planet is like a desert, but there are strange trees that resemble ten foot tall baseball bats and lakes full of yellow liquid. They live in tiny huts that are made out of a material resembling ceramic. There are strange animals and in their universe, there are only a handful of other planets: Zorania, Giraden, Boshelle, and Trolla, but no Earth."
Goku was flabbergasted, but amazed. A bunch of other planets? That's so cool! I wish I could see them.
Vegeta too, was amazed, but, being who he was, kept it to himself. It would be such an easy universe to rule...
"There's a woman from another planet called Sheffel. And the story with her is the same as the man from Majoria."
"So you're saying there are two other universes?" The reporter asked.
Dr. Brief grinned. "There could be hundreds, thousands...maybe more!" He exclaimed dramatically, gesturing wildly with his hands.
"What do you think has caused this Dr. Brief?"
"I'm not sure. But in both cases, they have written histories going back tens of thousands of years. Their people have been around for many millenniums. My thought is that their universes are very old, and they are becoming weak, and somehow, things are getting mixed up and switched. Like one piece of rice falling through a tiny hole in a container. The question is: What is it that's getting mixed up? I'm not sure if it's the person's energy or the universe's energy. Or if it's the electrons or neurons of the universe or what. But for whatever reason they've ended up here."
The news reporter nodded. "Were the man and woman able to get home?"
"I can't be positive, but I do believe they were. I wish I could have studied them more."
"Do you think people from Earth will disappear?"
"I can't really say for sure. I do have a theory right now, but I have very little to back it up with...it's more of an idea than anything."
"And what is your idea Dr. Brief?"
"Well, while talking to the Majorian and the Sheffelite, I was told that they had similar things happening. On Majoria, they have citizens disappearing and reappearing, but no strangers are showing up. On Sheffel, they've had citizens disappearing and reappearing and they also have strangers showing up. Earth hasn't had any disappearing citizens but we've had strangers. So my theory is that some planets are receivers, and others are...."givers" and some are givers and receivers. Of course, I'd need more examples before I could determine for sure."
The reporter nodded. "Thank you very much for your time Dr. Brief."
"You're very welcome."
"Coming up ne-"
Goku switched off the tv and looked at Vegeta and Gohan, who had come in moments after the segment started. "So what do you guys think?"
"Hmnn." Vegeta scowled.
"I don't know Dad. It's kind of hard to believe. It's true the universe is getting old so I guess it does make sense when you think about it. Someday even the sun will die from old age, so it makes sense to me that the electrons and neurons holding together the universe could get old and weaken."
Goku listened to his oldest son, a look of pride on his face. "You're so smart Gohan, I'm so proud of you."
Gohan rubbed the back of his head and laughed nervously, embarrassed by the praise. "Thanks dad."
Vegeta growled and the father and son looked over at him. "I want to train, let's go." The two Sons glanced at each other and then followed Vegeta out, heading towards the gravity room.
Joel sighed and turned off the tv. He was sick of hearing all the gibberish about people disappearing. Then they'd reappear, blabbering about other 'dimensions.'
"Lay off the fucking acid and then you wouldn't be finding yourselves in other 'dimensions'." He muttered to himself. He stood up and stretched his arms over his head and walked out of the living room. He grabbed his keys off the counter and headed outside to his car.
He got into his car and started it. He groaned and slammed his fingers against the radio button when he heard the deejay going on about the 'dimensions.' "Fuck that stupid shit." He muttered, as he drove down the road towards Benji's house.
"You hear about that shifting dimension stuff?" Benji asked.
"How could I not?" Joel snorted. "It's all over the tv and radio." Joel scoffed. "What a bunch of bullshit."
"You mean, you're not scared?" Benji asked.
Joel looked at his twin in disbelief. "You mean you seriously believe this shit? It's just some stupid druggies. They took too much acid, pass out for a couple days, and then when they wake up, they're convinced that their hallucinations and dreams were real. It's a bunch of shit."
Benji made a face. "I dunno Joel..." He trailed off.
Joel shook his head. "God, I dread twenty-twelve."
"Huh?" Benji looked up.
Joel smiled. "December 21st is gonna roll around and you're gonna spend the whole day freaking out and praying." He stuck his tongue out at Benji.
"But what if it is real?" Benji asked, curious as to what Joel would think.
"I don't think it is. But, if it is real, it'd be...interesting, to say the least. It'd be scary, but exciting."
"Dude, what if you ended up in a place with no oxygen!?" Benji exclaimed.
"Then you'd be fucked I guess."
"Yeah but, would you be like...dead, dead, or would you just die there and then come back here or-"
"Dude, Benji, I don't know..." Joel laughed. "why are you so fascinated?"
"HOW COULD YOU NOT!?" Benji squawked.
Joel rolled his eyes and sighed as Benji continued his spiel about the 'multiple dimensions.'
Joel took another swig out of his bottle of Budweiser and then picked up the dice. He rolled them and threw the dice on the board. He picked up his train piece and moved it five spaces. "Fuck," he muttered, setting his piece on Marvin's Gardens.
"Pay up bitch!" Billy cheered, taking another shot of Patron.
Joel groaned and threw the colored bills at him. Billy grinned wildly and added Joel's rent to his already large pile of money.
Paul snickered. Joel was down to his last three 5's, and six 1's. He laughed again when Joel shot him a look.
"You should probably just throw in the towel Joel, you're not gonna win." Dean chuckled.
"Shut up," Joel hissed, as Benji replaced his houses with hotels. He grinned as his older brother slid some of his money towards but but groaned when Paul snatched it up.
"What do you think you're doing!? You can't just give people money." He said, putting emphasis on the word 'give.' "That's cheating!"
"You're such a Monopoly Nazi Paul." Benji hollered.
Paul scoffed playfully. "Well, if you're gonna cheat, then maybe I should cheat." He suggested, taking the stack of 500 dollar bills out of the bank and grinning.
Joel shook his head, emptying his bottle. It's gonna be a long night.
He finally stumbled into his room at three am, drunkenly collapsing onto his bed and falling asleep the second his head touched the pillow.
