MARRIAGE EVOLVING

"Goten?"

"Yeah?"

"I've been thinking."

"Glad you're the one doing it. You know I'm no good at it."

"Shush, you."

"OK, OK. Seriously, Trunks, thinking about what?"

Son Goten Briefs and Son Trunks Briefs were snuggled together under the warm covers of their cabin's bed. They had been married four days now, and had more than three weeks still to go on their honeymoon, which they were spending up in the mountains.

"About where we'll live."

"When the honeymoon's over?"

"Yeah."

It was an important question, and one they hadn't really considered before the wedding; they had been too caught up in the romantic rush to think about things like that. "I thought I would just move in with you in your room at Capsule Corp."

"Well, it's kinda small for two people. It's fine when you're just staying a night or two, but I don't know if it's fit for a couple living together permanently."

"What about Mirai and Jennifer? They're living in his room, and they have Boxa too," Goten said, referring to his husband's time-travelling counterpart from an alternate timeline (now universally thought of as Trunks's older brother), the redheaded lawyer he'd married upon settling down in this timeline, and their young son.

"Yeah, but they had their room remodeled and enlarged while they were on their honeymoon. Because of where my room is situated in the building, I don't have that option."

"Couldn't you move to another room then?"

"I could, but..."

"But?"

"But I don't really want to live with my family anymore. I love them all, of course, I always will, but I'm not like Mirai. He never really had a big family. He barely had a family at all, so he wants to make up for that now. Same for Yamcha and Pu'ar. Hell, probably the same for my dad, too, though he'd never admit it. But that's not me. I've had them all my life, and I want something different. I want to live on my own, with you. Just you." He paused. "If that's all right with you."

"Of course it is," Goten replied, lightly kissing Trunks's cheek. "Why wouldn't it be?"

"I didn't know if you might want to live close to your family, like Gohan and Videl do."

Goten made a face that resembled his expression the time he'd chugged a whole bottle of bad milk. "Nah, I'm with you on this. I love them but I don't think I want to live with them or near them anymore." Like Trunks, he had spent much more of his life with his full family than his older brother had.

Trunks nodded. "Want to try and find a place?"

"That sounds fun!"

Trunks reached toward the bedside table and grabbed his pocket computer. He activated the modified capsule technology, turning it into a full-size laptop, and set it between himself and Goten.

"OK, what kind of place are we looking for?"

"How about a real house?"

Trunks nodded, and smiled to himself as his fingers danced over the keyboard. He shouldn't be surprised that his husband would want a full-sized house like the one he'd grown up in. As for himself, it would be a nice change from Capsule Corp.

"Any preference for where you want to live?"

"Hmm...somewhere between Mt. Paozu and West City? So we'll be equally close to both our families?"

"That'll keep them happy. Well, as happy as they can be with us moving away. So that would put us about right...here." Trunks pointed to a spot on the map displayed on the computer.

"That's right in the middle of the desert," Goten said, sticking out his tongue in disappointment. "I dunno about you, but I wouldn't want to live there."

"Me either. But maybe we could find somewhere that's just equally far away from both our homes? Like here, or here?"

"So...around North City, or in some of the southern tropical islands."

"I vote the islands," Trunks said quickly.

"So do I. It's nice to visit the cold, but I don't want to live there."

"Ah, yeah. Yeah, the cold."

Goten raised an eyebrow. "Is there another reason you had for picking the islands?"

Trunks smirked, and met his gaze. "Nude sunbathing."
