Intelligence thy name is Goku

Prologue

She threw the suitcase into the trunk and slammed the hatch. Then she made her way over to the driver’s door. She was about to open it when a voice stopped her.
“Chichi?” a deep male voice asked. “Where are you going?”
Inwardly she sighed. She had hoped she wouldn’t have to face him. She turned around and looked at the man whom she had called her husband for the last seventeen years.
His black hair was its usual style. Black spikes that stuck out in every direction. He was about 6’7” with a physique no human would ever have. He wore his usual orange battle gi. His face was in its customary form of confusion. His look of stupidity Chichi used to call it.
Now she knew better.
When she didn’t answer him Goku repeated his question.
“Chichi, where are y--.”
“I’m leaving you.” She answered calmly and evenly looking him in the eyes. “For good. The divorce papers are on the kitchen table.”
“But why?” Goku asked. “What did I do?”
“Oh, cut the crap Goku!” Chichi snapped. “We both know you’re not stupid. It’s just one of the many lies that have become my life!”
So, she knew, Goku acknowledged. Of course she knew. Chichi was many things but stupid was not one of them. Still he had thought that when they gotten married she would never figure out just how intelligent he was. He’d hoped rather than believed that he could just act like a baka and she would believe that there was no one home upstairs. That she’d marry him because she didn’t want to become an old maid.
Well she knew now, so there was no point in pretending anymore.
“So,” he asked. “When did you figure it out?”
“I’ve known for a while now.” Chichi’s voice sounded weary and resigned. “Ever since I found out it was you who suggested to Piccolo that Goten and Trunks be taught the fusion technique. I knew then there was no way you were as stupid as you lead people to believe.”
“So you’re leaving me because I’m more intelligent than you thought?” Goku’s voice was incredulous. “That is the most illogical excuse I’ve ever heard. You can do better than that Chichi.”
“That’s one of many reasons Goku.” Chichi’s went on. “Another reason is because you no longer love me.”
There was a long moment of silence. Goku couldn’t bring himself to look her in the eye.
Then Chichi spoke.
“Your silence tells me all I need to know. I refuse to stay in a marriage where love is not the key factor. But don’t feel guilty Goku because you see, I don’t love you anymore either. But I’ve found someone whom I do.”
When she said this Goku’s eyes quickly darted to hers and he said quickly
“Bulma.” it wasn’t a question.
Surprise lit Chichi’s eyes
“You knew?”
He gave a little grin. “I’m not stupid.”
She grinned back. “No you’re not.”
They both got back to the issue at hand.
“Gods, what are we going to tell kid kids?” Goku asked.
“Goku,” Chichi said rolling her eyes. “They’re both over fifteen I think they’ll be fine. Besides they’ve know for a while that things between us are not what they should be.”
“Yeah.” Goku agreed running a hand through his hair. “You’re probably right.”
“Goku.” Chichi said solemnly. “I want you to find someone too. Someone who will love you as you deserve to be loved. And one more thing.”
“What’s that?” Goku asked curiously.
She whacked him on the head.
“Let people see how intelligent you are!” she exclaimed hotly, then she chuckled. “God how I’d love to see the look on Vegeta’s face when he realizes that you’re not the stupid baka he’s thought you after all these years!”
While she was laughing Goku remained silent. How would Vegeta react? Realizing there was something more important at hand he brushed these thoughts aside.
He hugged Chichi, and knew that while he would see her again things would always be different between them from this moment on.
“Take care of yourself Chichi.” He mumbled his voice thick with emotion.
“I will.” She answered firmly. “You too.”
And with that she released him from the embrace, got into the car, started the engine, and drove out of Goku’s life.
As she drove away Goku thought about what the future would hold and with who.
