Braids and Waves
Title: Braids and Waves
Fandom: Gundam Wing AC
Parings: 1x2, 2x1 (eventual!) 3x4
Warnings: (Oh here we go! These are ones that haven’t been mentioned) Some spoilers later on for Episode Zero, artistic licence used for Duo’s past, I have included AU for a certain character rather than the actual story. Um… just go along with it even if it’s contradictory… please. Set post war. If there is something I’ve missed please let me know. I might have also gone OTT just so I’m covered so forgive me for that too.
Notes: This has been an ongoing project for quite a while now and finally I just had some energy to do it. I know this is an idea that has been played around with a bit but I hope mine’s a bit different and I promise you it is finished. This means of course I can upload it regularly, you just have to be patient… and maybe if I get lots of reviews I’ll upload quicker ^_^.
Thanks: To my little demons (my muses!) who would not let this story lie.
Summary: Duo is living with Quatre and Trowa. But what no-one realises is why. And what happens when they find out the truth, especially Heero.
Enjoy
Chapter 1 - Longing
Quatre had never understood it. He would never have said no, but it did seem so strange. After the war, Quatre had made the Earth his home. His family had a house in the desert, near to where the Maguanacs were based. He had decided to move in there and only go into space when he was really needed, as his sisters were dealing with most of the business.
Trowa had decided to move in with Quatre after leaving the circus. He told Cathy that he had wanted to stay in one place more. Quatre couldn’t have been happier; he had never really forgiven himself for nearly killing Trowa. It was one thing he could do for the green-eyed pilot. It was one of the things he kept telling himself, it was true, but it helped to disguise the feelings he had for the uni-banged pilot. Quatre knew he was in love. He had fallen in love as soon as Trowa had played the flute while he had played the violin. It had been quite romantic. Not that he would tell Trowa that. He would love him in silence, he promised himself. It hadn’t been the realisation of his feelings that had surprised him.
It had been Duo that had. Duo had also asked to move in with Quatre. Quatre agreed instantly but couldn’t understand why the American had chosen to do so. Everyone had been surprised at the American’s request, including Heero. Duo had said it was because he liked the desert. Quatre had suspected that there was something else but he didn’t say.
Quatre sighed, looking out across the desert. It confused him even now. A knock on the door brought him out of his reverie.
“Come in.” the door opened and Duo walked in. Quatre smiled, ‘speak of the devil’, he thought to himself. “What’s wrong Duo?” The braided one closed the door and sat on the chair and propped his feet on the desk.
“Hey Q-man. I wanted to talk to you about something.” Quatre sat down opposite.
“Is it important?”
“Vital.” Duo replied, “In fact it might be life and death. I would know about that of course.” Quatre smiled again unsure of what the American was talking about. Duo still carried his ‘God of Death’ label.
“Go on then.” The Arab encouraged.
“Well, it’s about someone you know.” Duo said airily.
“Right.”
“Someone very close.” Quatre frowned slightly. “He’s having a problem with expressing his feelings.”
“Right.” The blond said again, unsure where this conversation was going.
“He’s in love but he won’t say anything.” Quatre began blushing slightly but said nothing. “He’s in love but is trying to hide it. Because he’s trying to hide it, it makes it even more obvious.” The blond grew even redder and avoided looking at Duo now knowing what the conversation was about. “In fact he’s become so worried about disguising his feelings that he hasn’t noticed that his feelings are reciprocated.” Duo slipped in the big word to make Quatre look at him. The Arab did look noticing the longer vocabulary. Duo was smirking at him. It took a moment for the meaning of the word to sink in. He shook his head,
“You mean Trowa-“
“Loves you very much.” The different voice made Quatre’s head snap around. He saw Trowa leaning against the door.
“Trowa.” It was almost a whisper. Trowa smiled. Quatre left the desk and walked over to the taller man. “Is that true?” His voice sounded shaky. Trowa placed gentle fingers under the blonde’s chin.
“Would I lie to you little one? Why did you hide from me? I came here to be with you because I love you.” His voice was deep and steady as always.
“Oh Trowa.” Duo could hear the tears from where he sat. He watched out of the corner of his eye as Trowa lowered his head to meet Quatre’s lips. The Deathscythe pilot smiled,
“One point to the Duo love monkey, yes!” He murmured quietly. He watched silently out of the window at the view that Quatre had been looking out at only moments before, leaving the lovers to each other. He stood and silently walked around the desk to look out. He leant against the window frame. There was no glass to protect from the elements as with all the buildings in the desert. It looked out over the sand dunes. He watched as the slight breeze shifted the sands slightly. The heat was immense, enough to kill a man with no second thought. It was like how he used to be. A god of death. The unforgiving desert. It seemed very blank and bare to the untrained eye. But to those who knew it held a silent beauty. Like ‘him’. Duo closed his eyes. Heero.
“You miss him don’t you?” He started as Quatre’s voice cut through his thoughts and turned violet eyes to the shorter blond. Duo suddenly realised he must have grown slightly.
“Miss who?” He feigned ignorance, shrugging slightly. Quatre smiled knowingly,
“Heero. Don’t tell me that you don’t. I know you can’t lie.” Duo turned back to the desert,
“What can I say; I miss the death threats and suicide attempts.”
“Oh Duo! That’s not what I meant.” Trowa leant against the wall, looking into the room.
“You’re in denial.” Duo raised an eyebrow. “You’re in love with him.” Duo turned his back to the view, leant against the wall and crossed his arms. He took a deep breath.
“I kinda like the strong, silent type thing.”
“I knew it.” Quatre said happily. Duo could almost see the love hearts in the air, “Now we need to get you two together and everything will be perfect.” Duo pushed away from the wall, eyes wide with panic.
“No way Q-man. You can’t do that! Me and Heero, we’re… not compatible.” Quatre tried to say something. “Leave it Q. It just… wouldn’t work. I’m going for a lie down. See ya.” He quickly made his way across the room and shut the door behind him, silencing any further argument and leaving a very stunned Quatre in his wake. The Arab turned to the Latin.
“Did I say something wrong?” Trowa didn’t move.
“He’s avoiding something.” Quatre frowned slightly.
“What? Heero?”
“I’m not sure. Perhaps he’s hiding something and he doesn’t want Heero to know. Maybe that’s why he came out here.” Quatre looked at the closed door. Then walked over to Trowa, who proceeded to wrap his arms around the blond. He rested his cheek on Quatre’s head. Quatre leaned against his chest.
“I hope he’s not in trouble.” It was a cheerless sigh.
-x-
Duo locked the door to his room and leant against it. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm his rapidly beating heart. Questions were getting too personal for his liking. ‘They don’t know; they couldn’t’. He was safe here. ‘They’ll find out’ His mind chided.
“No they won’t. They can’t!” He shouted. “Damn, I’m going crazy.” He moved away from the door and fell on to the bed face first. He thumped the bed hard. He turned his head to look out of the window. The sky was nearly the colour of Heero’s eyes. A tear escaped and trickled down his nose.
So what does everyone think? Drop me a line and let me know.
