Marooned
"Well, Namek?"
"Well what?"
The voice sounded irritated to him, and Vegeta had to wonder if he had a piece of iceberg going into his ass. "Well, what are you still doing here?" His voice took on its usual haughty tones, essentially asking what the Namek was still doing on his iceberg.
The head finally turned to look at him. It wasn't quite a glare, but it was as damned close as the other could come with how tired he looked. "Why are you still here?"
Having his question thrown back at him did nothing to make the prince's mood lighten. He turned from the other with a haughty snort. "I don't owe you any explanations."
"Of course you don't. Luckily I don't need any to explain you inside out."
Arching a surprised brow, Vegeta turned back to the Namek, and this time shifted, a leg unwinding to come dangerously close to the cold water. "What the hell does that mean?"
"It means, Saiyajin, that you are predictable."
"Is that some kind of Namekian insult?"
"It's just a insult, plain and simple."
"How dare you--" moving to stand, his enraged rant was cut short as his depletion of ki suddenly struck him. His legs wobbled embarrassingly, and he could feel himself tipping right toward the water, arms pinwheeling wildly as the iceberg tilted. If not for the steadying hands on his thighs, he would've toppled right over.
Vegeta stared down at the Namek, the anger slipping away as he noticed the other's hands were not moving...at all. He was also staring intently at where those hands were.
Feeling distinctly unbalanced by the weird behavior, he cleared his throat. By the way Piccolo jerked his hands back and then his body, facing away from Vegeta, he knew they both didn't want to mention what had happened, whatever it had been.
Shifting on the tiny ice floe, Vegeta managed to keep himself from both falling or making the entire structure flip right over. His energy would take a while to recover. In the meantime, he didn't like this awkward silence between him and the Namek. He always enjoyed, privately, the quiet rapport he shared with Piccolo. He liked how easy it was to rile the other up too. Although right now he was doing a good job of riling him up instead.
"I am not predictable!"
He could almost see the relief in the set of the other's shoulders. "But you are." Now the voice was tinged with amusement, which made the scowl on Vegeta's face real. "Like why you came to fight."
"Oh? And aren't you therefore just as predictable? Why did you come to fight, Namek?" The words were completely mocking and had the intended result as the shoulder's hunched down at the accusation. He barked a laugh before the other could respond. "Although your cause was more noble than mine."
"Was it?"
Those eyes turned to pierce right into his, and he sneered. "Are you trying to say that killing Kakarott is noble?"
"It certainly was when I did it." Piccolo, smirked, his fangs reminding Vegeta he was not human...and had not always been one of the good guys. "I saved the planet after all."
His point hit home, and Vegeta's brows furrowed. "But that was not my intention."
"Sometimes intentions speak louder than words."
"Oh spare me human clichés, Namek. I'm surprised you even buy into them--"
Again he was interrupted as the Namek suddenly stood and gripped his shoulders. He almost fell off again, glaring at Piccolo as the Namek glared right back at him. "Why does it matter to you who kills Goku if you want him dead so badly?"
There was silence after the question. It hung as thick as the cold around them. Finally, Vegeta's breath puffed out between them in a small cloud. "It's just the first thought that pops into my head, out of many, Namek. Do you want me to spew them all out as the enemy prepares to charge me?"
"Why say anything at all?"
He moved his arms then, rolling his shoulders so that the Namek's hands were forced to release him. "Because he'd get the wrong fucking idea if I didn't say anything. He'd think I was helping, that I was on your little team. I'm not! If some wacko with a complex for Kakarott comes along and kills him, he'll move on down the line until everyone on the planet is dead. Then he'll move onto the next planet, and the next, so on and so forth.
"Pretty soon he's rampant in the galaxy, and I can't even take over a small planet without hearing his name instead of mine--and what the fuck are you laughing at?"
It was true. Laughter had suddenly started to spill from Piccolo's lips, unnoticed at first in Vegeta's ranting until it became almost hysterical. He backed from the Namek and cursed as his boot slipped off the floe and into the water. He jerked it up quickly, glad the height of it had kept his foot dry.
Shaking his head, Piccolo forced himself to calm down. "You have such a roundabout way of saying you need Goku's help to get rid of your enemies."
"Oh no! You don't get to twist my fucking words! I don't need his help, he needs mine! And those...those tin cans weren't my enemies! For fuck's sake, don't you ever get tired of cleaning up Kakarott's mistakes?"
Piccolo's eyes narrowed again as he opened his mouth to denounce that question, but Vegeta continued. "Think about it, Namek. Because he didn't kill this scientist, we're having to fight his drones everywhere. Not only that, but you had to help him kill his brother and save his son, and then raise his fucking son on top of that!
"Were you a marriage counselor too for whenever Kakarott fucked up with his mate?"
He was satisfied to see the Namek turn sightly purple at the last question, and he smirked. "You see? I realize you have this whole 'fatherly' complex going on, but don't extend it to me! I have no need of a 'father figure'."
"Who the fuck said I wanted to be a father to you?" He rarely cursed, so unlike Vegeta, when he cursed his coarse word got a raised brow. "How did you ever get that idea?"
There was a short pause again as each man stared at the other, assessing the question and the possible answers. Vegeta put the contemplation put an end. "You think I haven't noticed? All the looks, all the 'advice' you give me? Now that Kakarott is back in Gohan's life you're looking for a replacement. I am not it."
Piccolo looked stunned, staring at Vegeta as if he'd grown antennae like his own. "You...think what?"
Sneering, Vegeta turned his head. "You can't mold the boy, so now you're trying to mold me. It won't happen, Namek. The last man to try his hand at shaping me is dead."
It was a lot to take in for Piccolo. He was surprised Vegeta had noticed. The Saiyajin always seemed so wrapped up in himself it seemed impossible he'd notice the occasional look or words spoken. "That's...not what I was doing at all."
Narrowing his eyes as he turned back toward Piccolo, he practically growled at the Namek. "Bullshit!"
"That's not what I was doing!"
Another fish jumped somewhere to their left in this new, uncomfortable silence. The Namek was blushing now, which sent Vegeta's mind whirling as he tried to figure out what he had been doing, if he hadn't been trying to be 'fatherly'.
His eyes widened. "Namek!" He made it sound as if Piccolo had suggested pull some kind of prank Vegeta did not agree with. His mouth hung open before it clicked shut. Piccolo could feel the heat from his face to his toes.
Vegeta hadn't realized that the Namek was even capable of such affections. Especially not towards him. It made sense now though. "I see...."
It was not a helpful phrase at all. It told Piccolo nothing It didn't sound promising or condemning. It drove him completely nuts. His brows lowered as his lips pulled into a severe frown. "What, exactly, do you see?"
"That I have been entirely too predictable, Namek. From now on you can expect completely random things to happen when it concerns me." He scowled as the other seemed to consider all the possibilities of that statement. "Unless it concerns my own interests outside of you. You will no longer see predictability from me. Everyone else will. So Kakarott is still mine to kill, and I will protect my claim to the galaxy until Kakarott is gone and I can take it."
Now Piccolo was just confused. If Vegeta was starting the unpredictability thing now, it was already working. "Is this ploy to get me 'uninterested'?"
Smirking, Vegeta put a hand on his hip and then thrust that hip out enticingly. "I don't know Namek. That depends on how 'interested' you are. Does my predictability turn you on?"
Again, a blush spread across green cheeks. That was definitely unpredictable. If the Saiyajin was toying with him with this...flirtatious attitude, it wasn't funny. "Stop that!"
"Stop what?" He stepped closer and watched the Namek take a step back, his hands snapping out to grab onto the cloak the other still wore to keep him from walking right off the ice floe. Then he pulled the Namek into his own body, grinning at the bewildered look on his face. "Stop this?"
Leaning in, he captured alien lips with his own. It shouldn't have surprised him that his breath smelled like potable water, that he tasted like a hot spring. It did surprise him that Piccolo relaxed into the kiss after the initial shock. The Namek's arms came up, hands wrapping around his shoulders as he gripped him close. Vegeta found he liked what the other's body was telling, how it responded to such a simple kiss.
He couldn't even imagine, if the Namek were capable of feeling such bodily responses, what it must feel like to suddenly have them. He had to assume the Namek was a complete virgin after all.
He slowly pulled back, still smirking. "You don't seem to want me to."
He wasn't panting nearly as hard as the Namek, who looked like he was going to hyperventilate. He chuckled and watched Piccolo come back to where they were with the sound. "Are you serious?"
Tilting his head to the side, Vegeta's grin sobered some. "We've only just kissed, Namek. Don't start proposing things yet. I have to be unpredictable after all."
Piccolo's eyes widened as what Vegeta was saying, what he meant, sunk in. Then he too smirked. "So you have to be unpredictable now around me, hm?"
Before Vegeta could begin to become worried by the conspiratorial tone, Piccolo had wrapped his arms around his body. He felt himself the victim of a blush now. The embrace, however, did not progress any further though. The hands even stayed in the safe areas. It was a simple hug.
The damn Namek knew too that he had to return it. That's what happened with hugs. They were returned. Of course, that didn't mean he couldn't spice it up. If the Namek was going to try and make him a cuddling love-sick fool, he was going to corrupt Piccolo until the Namekian begged for more.
His own arms rose and wrapped around Piccolo, and the sensation of being wrapped around another in a way that wasn't sexual, or wasn't meant to be, was entirely foreign to the prince. So he slid his hands down and groped the other man's ass.
Piccolo made a squeaking noise that was just too cute to express and leaned back, not breaking the hold, to glower at the smirking Saiyajin. "This is just a hug!"
"You didn't specify, Namek. I'm sorry, weren't you expecting that?" The apology was insincere.
Piccolo just grunted, then leaned back into the other's body, trying to get used to such physical closeness outside of combat. He was sure Vegeta was going to help him make leap and bounds in that area too.
In fact, considering the hands soon became more interested in his ass than anything ever had before, he had a feeling he'd be getting a crash course right here, marooned on an ice floe in the middle of the ocean.
