Chap 11: The Lookout

koneka11 Koneka heads back to the lookout to find safety for her and Jimmy. She also makes a new friend... Disclaimer: I love these guys, but they just don’t belong to me. ________________________________ Koneka’s Excellent Vacation, Part 11 Cell Games: The Lookout I couldn’t find the lookout. Jimmy’s face was buried in my shoulder and we were both getting tired, so I landed as soon as I spotted a comfortable meadow with some water nearby. We shrugged off our backpacks and dropped into the grass to rest. Jimmy rested his head on his pack and soon fell asleep in the warm sun. Bees buzzed lazily among the clover. Butterflies chased each other, fluttering over Jimmy’s nose and then moving on. I wandered over to the stream and splashed my face with the cool water. As I knelt there, studying my shimmering reflection, I realized that I looked older, different. What had started out as two weeks of rest and relaxation had turned into a bizarre vacation that was now one year and five days long! I’d met aliens and learned how to fly and fallen in love. Vejita... I wouldn’t have changed a thing, painful as some of it was. I sat back on my heels and sighed, looking into the sky. In the distance, a flash of light and a familiar whistling sound spurred me to action. I jumped to my feet and ran into the meadow waving my arms and screaming. And here he was again, landing in the field and approaching me. My heart did a grand jete as I watched his powerful body move toward me with the grace of a panther. We stood just gazing at each other for what seemed like an hour, then I finally found my voice hiding under a lump in my throat. “I can’t find the lookout,” I said, glancing at Jimmy sleeping peacefully. “I thought it was the safest place for him to be.” My voice sounded small. I felt small in his presence. He was quiet for so long, I wondered what he was thinking. Then he quirked that sexy one-sided grin. “Well, it turns out I’m heading there myself. Kakarot and his son will be coming out soon.” “Koneka?” Jimmy’s sleepy voice reached me. He was struggling to a sitting position. Vejita looked at him blandly. “His mother and grandmother were...ummm... you know...” Vejita walked over to the little boy and squatted by his side. “Put your arms around my neck,” he growled. Jimmy looked at me, and I nodded as I quickly threw my pack on and grabbed his. As I watched Vejita take the young boy in his arms and clutch him to his body, my heart felt like it would burst. Thinking about Trunks, I was dismayed yet thrilled to see this side of Vejita. When Vejita burst into the air, I heard a shriek, and I was instantly scrambling to catch up with him. “Vejitaaaa!” I watched the energy trail suddenly dip and zig-zag and I heard more shrieks — and laughter! He was taking Jimmy for the ride of his life! He slowed down and let me catch up alongside. The prince of Saiyans was smiling, and Jimmy was giggling like I’d never heard him giggle before. “More!” he cried, and Vejita complied by rolling over, descending with blinding speed and then climbing up to the clouds, spiraling and rolling. As the tears flowed down my cheeks, I fell in love deeper than I ever had in my life. Ahhh, what was I going to do? Somehow, some way, I had to fall out of love... Pretty soon, he leveled out and we streaked toward the lookout. This time, I tried to pay attention to landmarks, and finally I saw the thin pole that balanced the lookout. Vejita made a beeline for it, then, to Jimmy’s delight, turned a sudden ninety degrees, and Jimmy squealed as they flew straight up the pole. When we landed on the lookout, he gently put Jimmy down and turned his attention to the temple doorway. Goku and Gohan were standing there, ragged, buff... and blonde! They seemed so natural! Knowing what I knew about super Saiyans, this was nothing like I had seen before. And everyone else seemed perplexed, too. Jimmy and I watched from a distance as Goku changed back into his orange gi, and Gohan got an instant wardrobe change compliments of the big green guy. Then, Vejita, sporting his trademark smirk, said something to Goku to which Goku answered, “Sure, I’m way above you!” and chuckled. Ah, Vejita — so easily baited by your nemesis! I could almost hear his teeth grind from here! As Goku and Gohan moved past me, Goku spotted me, grinned broadly and winked. Then, in a burst of incredible power and speed, they jetted into the sky and swooped down the pole. Trunks approached me, smiling. “It’s our turn to go in, Koneka. Who’s your friend?” “This is Jimmy Lee, Trunks.” Trunks hunkered down to shake Jimmy’s hand, who grinned and gave him the secret handshake. “Argh!” I said as Trunks went through the motions perfectly. “Trunks, it’s time,” called the big green guy. “Coming, Piccolo.” As he stood up, I grabbed the front of his suit and pulled him down to kiss him. I just wanted to see him blush again, and he did, furiously. “Good luck, Trunks,” I said with a giggle, and he laughed nervously, then he and Piccolo headed toward the room of spirit and time. Just as they reached it, suddenly the entire lookout shuddered and rocked with an explosion of power that knocked me to my butt. Jimmy skidded across the floor and I grabbed hold of him as he went past. The two of us huddled together on the floor, sure that the world was ending. “Uhhhnn! It’s Goku!” Piccolo cried. Goku? That power was coming from Goku? I watched in horror as cracks began ppeappear in the floor and the temple shook on its foundation. “Oh my God!” I cried out. Then, just as suddenly it stopped. When I finally had the nerve to look up, I saw the shocked expressions on everyone’s faces — all except Vejita who was scowling, growling and clenching his fists. No one needed to state the obvious — Goku was way above Vejita! I wanted to run to him and say it didn’t matter, but I knew it was all that mattered to him. Then I spotted Bulma, who had come running and was sitting on the floor now clutching baby Trunks to her chest. Her eyes met mine, and when she saw Jimmy, she carefully rose to her feet and approached us. I stood up and faced her feeling woefully inadequate. Shifting Trunks on her left hip, she smiled, and held out her hand. “I’m Bulma,” she said. I saw it in her eyes — she knew and was offering me her friendship anyway. I took her hand and shook it. “Koneka.” “I’m Jimmy!” “Pleased to meet you, Jimmy!” she said and gave him the secret handshake. Perfectly. Argh. ...continued...
