Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Life is dull, currently. Like the dry scorching heat waves outside with its dusty tedious clouds that couldn\'t cry. Higher than normal, his ass. There is no excitement, curse the Gods instead.

The doctors asked him if he was improving and Vegeta said it feels fine and wonderful here. But, really he was living like a disaster and asked if they could kill him fast. On some days he\'d lay quietly, waiting to hear Raditz voice say something, but it never
came. Perhaps he will dream of a devil that knew him, and ask him if he knew where Raditz had gone, and if he would return. Some things you use and some things you just give away, the devil will say.

We are all candy that is covered on the outside, so peel away the shell and we\'re rotten on the inside. They\'re all angry on the outside, so peel out your eyes. Everyone thinks they\'re so obscene, so you know for certain you need a piece of lollirot. That was
Raditz advice, and he called them lollirots because they\'re blinded by fear, mixed with sugar and spice.

Bitter. People who tasted lollirot were bitter, like that nurse that wouldn\'t help him, Vegeta absently noticed. He snorted and mumbled something about her eating the scabs off his knees. Staring up at the popcorn ceiling, the prince spotted out designs hidden in the white roof, and asked himself if he\'d see Kakarot today. Today, what is today?

Growling a little, he got up from his bed to walk out into the lobby of the D ward. He felt so lost, and a part of him wanted to find that girl to ask him where she found out about that word. That was Raditz\' word, not hers, damnit.

\"Hmmmm…\" he pondered aloud. \"The apple fell right from the tree,\" he concluded to himself, almost as if he was finishing something from long ago.

Anxiety was gnawing at the edges of him again. In his mind and in his heart, he felt like he was running out of air, and he realized he was nothing. A sharp pain in the side of his head, and he winced as it traveled down his neck to stab him in the shoulder. Dead souls
dance and burn and twirl, kill this pitiful one. Where was he?

\"Raditz, please come back,\" he whispered, crouching over in a fetal
position.

Why was it so hard? Why was everything confusing him? He\'s a Saiyan, right? Maybe they\'re right when they tell him he\'s wrong. Shaking his head a little, he stood up and leaned against the cold grey wall. Closing his eyes, he stayed very still and waited for the
dizziness to pass. Black dots danced behind his eyelids, and he saw little gold stars… or where they just dots?

Stop fooling around, you idiot, and go find Kakarot, he scolded himself. Pushing off the wall, he wandered down the hall, looking everywhere, like he lost his pet spider or something. He ignored the other patients that started at him like he was some sort of freak. Feh, they were lesser beings, Raditz said once.

Standing up on his tiptoes, he looked outside the window and down to the courtyard with the gardens and the fountains. No Kakarot there, he mused. He smirked as he wanted to witness the beauty of bathing in the fountain, but he turned himself away, and strode down another hallway that led him somewhere that he hopes that no one\'s been
before. But, he was wrong, as he spotted a patient that sat on the ground behind a drinking water fountain.

Frowning, he turned away because in his head he thought that if he went down there, he\'d come out tainted. He stopped at the front desk of the D ward, grabbed a chair and laid his head on the counter. He was tired now, and he wasn\'t feeling any better than he had this
morning.

\"Why, hello there, Vegeta. Is everything alright?\" A kind nurse asked, coming up to look at him with worried eyes.

\"No, I don\'t think so,\" he answered truthfully, while looking up at her with his head still down.

The nurse paused, and placed a hand on her hip as her other hand went up to press against her lips, an expression of concentration on her pale face. Vegeta thought she was pretty, and liked to think that she wasn\'t contaminated. \"Well, is there anything that I can do to
help you?\" She asked sweetly.

\"I have come curiously close to the end,\" Vegeta stated as a fact.

\"Really?\" The nurse looked interested, but asked in a cheery voice, because she could plainly see that her patient was quite depressed. \"Would you like to tell me about it?\"

Vegeta looked at her solemnly and pondered the question. \"No,\" he finally said, and lifted his head up from the counter. \"I don\'t know what to talk about… how pitiful.\"

The nurse pulled up a chair and placed it besides Vegeta, and folded her arms across the desk. \"Can you please tell me what\'s wrong?\"

Her smile was so warm and pure; Vegeta couldn\'t look at it for long before giving in. He gathered his thoughts and sighed a little. He didn\'t really want to talk, but this lady has dropped what she was doing to talk with him. He\'d feel guilty if he just brushed her off
and ignore her.

\"Do…\" he paused again, \"do you think Kakarot will come and see me today?\"

\"Well, we can call him and ask him to come in, if that would please you.\" She smiled again.

\"I don\'t want to be a lifeless satellite drifting,\" he blurted out, not at all expecting himself to say that.

\"But, you\'re not. You are a wonderful person, Vegeta,\" she stated as a matter of fact.

Inside, he felt a little piece of himself die from those words. How wrong she was, but he couldn\'t help let her say them. He cringed and wondered if he would pine away from lying so much.

\"I would like that,\" he nodded and stood, waiting for her to lead the way.

The nurse smiled and walked around to her desk to pull out his file and get the number for Kakarot. While she dialed the number, Vegeta plopped himself down on one of the plush chairs in the lobby, and listened carefully. What if he didn\'t want to come visit him? What if Kakarot wasn\'t his friend anymore? Well, he couldn\'t really blame him for some reason unknown. He felt empty as he heard to soft click of the phone hanging up.

\"Vegeta, Kakarot will be by later this afternoon to come and see you,\" she spoke soothingly.

He didn\'t say anything, but he did let a small smile slip from his lips.
