Cell Games: Prelude
Vejita...
Vejita grunted and rolled over, turning his back to me. I struggled up to one elbow and leaned my chin on his deltoid. The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon.
You cant get away from me.
He snickered. Wanna bet?
I slid my arms around him and rested my cheek against his back. He smelled of sweat and sex. I splayed my hand across his abs and sighed.
About Bulma...
I felt him stiffen.
Just listen to me...
All you ever do is talk, woman. Theres nothing to say. He pushed away from me and climbed out of bed.
Silly me whatever made me think this would be easy? I threw off the covers and was right behind him.
Trunks is your son.
I know that! He wheeled on me, then smirked as his eyes traveled the length of my body. We were both buck naked from our night of lovemaking. He started for me, but I ran to the other side of the bed, putting it between us.
I will not be distracted from this quest, Vejita! Geez, he was so visually stimulated!
What quest? he growled as he climbed onto the bed on his hands and knees, cat-like. I squealed and danced away as he lunged for me.
Making a father out of you... EEEEEEE!
He was so damned fast! He grabbed my hair and hauled me toward him, capturing my mouth in a soul-searing kiss, running his hands all over me.
Mmmmph... STOP, VEJITA! Listen...
You want to make a father out of me, then make a father out of me, he purred in my ear, lifting me in the air and sheathing himself in me in one savage motion.
Vejiiiiitaaa...ahhh...God...I love you, Vejita...
I said it I said it I said it.
He took us to climax so quickly, I wasnt sure he had heard me. I hoped he hadnt. He clutched me to him in a grip so tight that I thought he was going to cut off my oxygen. He was breathing hard, his mouth in my hair. Gradually, his grip loosened but he continued to hold me for a long time with my chin resting on his shoulder.
I know Trunks is my son, he finally said quietly. Im...Im... He took a deep breath and whispered, Im proud of him.
I waited him out.
But Bulma Im... were... I dont...
I turned my head and put my face in his neck.
I dont love her. I wasnt sure I heard the words just a vibration of vocal cords against my face.
Shes the mother of your son, I whispered, wondering what I was doing, if I had gone insane. If he didnt love her, did it mean...? And when your grown son goes back to his time, youre left with an infant son. I was insane.
I know. He let go of me, gently. The sun was coming up, the dark shadows of the room giving way to the orange and pink glow of a new day. I stepped back from him and looked at his beautiful form, so powerful, so perfectly sculpted, like a Michelangelo. I wanted to paint him again, this time capturing the pain.
Because for all his strength and his royal blood, he was still just a man struggling with the same kinds of emotions that the rest of us deal with every day.
Today is the day, he said.
Youre changing the subject.
He shook his head. Not really. As he gazed at me, with sudden clarity I knew what he meant. Today was the day of the Cell Games. Not one of us was guaranteed another day on this Earth. I trembled.
Vejita...
Well defeat him, he said, clenching his fists and dropping his chin to his chest. He squeezed his eyes shut, and when he looked up at me, his eyes were shimmering. Cell dies today, he said quietly.
But how many of us how many of the great Saiyan warriors would also die in the attempt?
*******
Jimmy was ravenous. He gobbled so much food so fast, that even Vejita raised an eyebrow.
Are you sure youre not a Saiyan, Jimmy? I asked.
Huh? His mouth hung open, a chunk of pancake hanging over his lip.
Yeesh! Chew and swallow, bud!
He shrugged his thin little shoulders, inhaled the rest of his breakfast and then ran out to the lookout, where Gohan was waiting to play with him. I started picking up the dishes, but Mr. Popo would have none of that (again), so I let him spoil me for yet another meal.
I sat back down and looked at Vejita across the table. He was staring at me with those fathomless black eyes I thought he was struggling to say something, but he finally got up and went outside without a word.
I stayed where I was, listening to the happy shouts of little boys playing. While Gohan was more than twice Jimmys age, he had that innocent, playful attitude like his father the kind that comes from a pure heart and he loved playing with the kids, Jimmy and baby Trunks.
Bulma hadnt returned. Gohan said she would probably go to Master Roshis and watch the Cell Games on his TV. I figured I probably should take Jimmy and go there, too, even though where I wanted to be... where I desperately desired to be... was by Vejitas side. None of this felt right anymore. I loved Vejita more than I ever loved any human being, and even though he technically wasnt married... (and technically not human)... well, I guess that was why I continually pushed Bulma on him.
Then maybe it was because I loved Trunks, too, and wanted him to have a normal family, like Gohan had. Even I envied Gohan. Happy and fearless and powerful. I envied Chi Chi (though I had never met her) because she had such a powerful, innocent and faithful husband. And I envied Bulma because eventually she would have Vejita.
Hell, while I was at it I might as well envy Dende because he was such a lovely shade of lime green! Yeesh! I pushed away from the table and stalked outside where I was just in time to see Goku arrive via instant transmission. Yeah, I envied him that, too!
He was talking to Piccolo and Vejita, then calling for Gohan. My heart plummeted into my stomach then backstroked into my throat.
It was time.
Vejita and Piccolo took off in a blaze of power without so much as a backward glance. Gohan gave Jimmy the secret handshake, then took hold of his fathers hand.
The rest of it seemed like a dream to me. Jimmy reached for Gokus gi and grabbed hold saying, Hey! Shake my hand! just as Goku and Gohan disappeared. And they were gone. All three of them.
My heart did the Russian dance against my sternum. As soon as they realized that Jimmy had gone with them, theyd return him, right?
So, I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Oh, God....
