Chap 14: Cell Games: The Games Begin

koneka14 Koneka’s searches anxiously for Jimmy. Once we get past Goku’s giving up in order to hand the reins of battle to Gohan, I’m relying strictly on my memory for the rest of the details. My Japanese eps are C quality and it’s been over a year (maybe 2 years) since Cartoon Network aired these. To make matters worse, I’ve only seen them once. So, as long as it’s A/U anyway, please forgive any discrepancies. Disclaimer: I’d have a better chance of marrying Vejita than I would of ever owning these guys. They will never belong to me. Alas. ________________________________ Koneka’s Excellent Vacation, Part 14 Cell Games: The Games Begin By the time the fog started lifting from my brain, I was sure Jimmy wasn’t returning (or being returned) to the lookout. Something had happened to him, either en route or immediately upon arriving. My senses were now on full alert. In fact, someone had switched on all my acute buttons, and my spidey sense was tingling! I waved to Dende and Mr. Popo — who were both nervously watching me — and set off to find the tournament. And Jimmy. ********* This wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. It’s not like I have a built-in navigation system or anything. Although I recognized Vejita’s energy, it wasn’t stationary, and I couldn’t follow it. I was fearful of looking for Goku’s — Cell’s would most likely be nearby. But I had no choice. Not wanting to ralph mid-air and then crash and burn, I decided to land and search for Goku’s signal. Butterflies danced in my stomach as I sat in the grass and carefully began my search. The second I touched the edge of Cell, I backed off, even as my stomach lurched then settled. Then, I found an equally strong energy signal, but this one was... well... kind. Angry, but kind. Had to be Goku. I set off again, homing in on that signal. The closer I got, the stronger it got. Then I felt Vejita’s and finally it was stationary. His was more hostile, but so familiar to me, that it made my heart swell like a balloon. He was going to be pissed when he saw me! Then, there it was. The ring. There were figures off to either side. As I got closer, I recognized a camera crew and, standing in the midst, Mr. Satan. What a buffoon! I flew beyond the Saiyans and their group, hovering out of sight, I thought. But when Trunks looked up and waved at me, I figured I was found out. I landed near him. “Hi, Kone... What’s the matter?” “Where’s Jimmy?” I whispered. “I — I thought he was with you.” I shook my head, and, looking nd Tnd Trunks at the arena, I saw why Goku had not returned. He was squared off against Cell and the two of them were having a stare-down. I saw Yamcha, Krillin, the three-eyed guy, Piccolo, some giant of a guy with a red mohawk, and Vejita — who had yet to glance my way — standing with folded arms. “Where’s Gohan?” “Huhn. I don’t know,” Trunks said and ran his hand through his long hair. “I don’t remember seeing him when I arrived.” Trying to be as unobtrusive as I possibly could, I began to search the area. Suddenly, there was a flurry of movement and the sound of fighting, fists and feet punching, kicking and blocking — Goku and Cell had begun. No one was going to notice me now, anyway, so I rose in the air. A single figure was flying toward me — it was Gohan. “Koneka,” he said, and his face was in a scowl. “When we arrived, Jimmy had hitched a ride, but he ran off and hid so fast, I haven’t been able to find him.” I was surprised. “You can’t... uh ... feel him?” “His signal’s too weak.” Right. Crap. “Oh, my dad started!” he said. “Go ahead, Gohan. I’ll look for Jimmy.” “Are you sure?” “Yes. Watch your father.” As the young Saiyan left me, I wondered how I would be able to find Jimmy if Gohan couldn’t. And how in the world had the kid disappeared so fast that two big strong Saiyans couldn’t catch him? If he was alive, I was going to strangle him! The sound of the battle was growing fainter as I flew away. I began calling for Jimmy. “Jimmy, where are you?! It’s me! Koneka!” I searched in the air. I searched on the ground. Where in the home for infinite losers had that slippery little kid got to? The sounds of Goku’s and Cell’s battle were heating up. “JIMMY!!” Whistling sounds overhead. I gaped into the sky. All I could see of the two of them were energy trails. I had a terrible feeling this was going to get ugly real fast. “JIIIIIIMYYYYY!!” He couldn’t have gone this far, could he? I was beginning to panic as I redoubled my efforts. He seemed to have droppped off the face of the Earth. I decided to rejoin the group, landing near Trunks. The only place I hadn’t searched yet was over by Mr. Satan and his entourage. I was about to open my mouth when I heard Goku say, “NOW!” He sank into a deep sitting stance and crossed his arms over his face. Vejita yelled, “No! You fool!” and suddenly the blast of energy that exploded from the Saiyan’s body blew me off my feet. “Uhn!” Trunks cried, and he transmitted behind me to break my fall. “Th-thanks,” I stuttered, gripping his arms. “That’s incredible!” Trunks said, with his eyes on Goku and still supporting me from the energy that was rippling out in waves all around us. “How is he doing that?!” I cried, still unable to stand of my own free will. “I don’t know, but I’ve never felt anything like that before!” Finally, Goku ended his power-up and Trunks steadied me on my feet. I looked over at Vejita, who was clenching his fists and his teeth and growling. This wasn’t good. I knew Goku had surpassed him, and so did everyone else, including Vejita, and he wasn’t about to admit it. So proud... But I had more important things to worry about. Namely, Goku and Cell were at it again and this time the stakes were higher. I hadn’t found Jimmy yet, which meant Earth’s champions were on their own without me! As I watched the titans duke it out, I realized that if I didn’t find my little charge soon and get out of here, we’d both end up dead. “Trunks, I need to get over to Mr. Satan’s side of the ring. I have a feeling Jimmy’s over there somewhere.” Before Trunks could protest, I flew up, back and around the ring, keeping as great a distance as I could — just about the same time that Goku and Cell took to the air again. “Crap!” I poured on the speed and made it to the other side before the aerial shootout began. I watched as Goku suddenly streaked to the ring, landing catlike on one foot and one knee, cracking and chewing up whole chunks of the rock. These Saiyans were marvels of carbon-based engineering! My skeleton would have disintegrated with that impact! I landed behind Mr. Satan and his group and was gratified to see that their eyes were bugging out of their heads. And there, huddling behind a rock, was Jimmy. I didn’t realize how tense I had been until my legs collapsed beneath me. I sank to theund und in front of the kid, rubbed my hands over my face and looked at him. “I’m sorry, Koneka,” he whispered. I gathered him onto my lap where he curled up and hid his face in my shoulder, snuffling loudly. “When I saw Mr. Satan, I wanted his autograph.” He wiped his nose on my shirt. “But I didn’t have any paper.” I started to laugh, then we both cried. The two of us just sat there, rocking and holding each other for a long time with the sounds of battle behind us. The next thing I heard was Goku’s anxious voice. “Everyone, get away from the ring!” ...continued...
