Chap 15: Cell Games: The Battle Heats Up

koneka15 I’m sorry for taking so long to get this part up. I’m afraid I’ve had a bit of writer’s block, not to mention busy with other things, like earning a living. This part isn’t exactly what I wanted to do, but I just plain got stuck. Disclaimer: Ain’t mine. Except her. ________________________________ Koneka’s Excellent Vacation, Part 15 Cell Games: The Battle Heats Up I remember standing with Jimmy in my arms and both of us looking in the sky. I remember seeing the warriors on the other side of the ring turn and run. I remember that Jimmy and I both looked simultaneously at the giant with the red mohawk as he flew at lightning speed toward Mr. Satan’s group. I don’t remember how I got from the spot near the rock to a spot on a cliff high above the ring. I do remember Vejita’s angry face as he stood before us and lectured us. “Take the kid and leave. Now.” We stared at each other for a heartbeat, then the left side of his mouth twitched. He chucked me under the chin and disappeared, only to reappear near the other warriors. Jimmy wriggled from my arms and stood by my side as we gaped at the crater and watched the incredible battle below. And above. And all around us. He slipped his hand in mine and pressed against my side. “We better go, Ji —” BOOOM!! CRRRAAACK!! I grabbed Jimmy and ran. After putting my skin back on. I came to a screeching halt as Goku suddenly rocketed high into the air. He was nearly overhead. Cell was standing just below us. “Kaaaaa...” “What’s he doing?” I said, as a ball of energy began to form in the approximate vicinity of Goku. “meee...haaaa...” I heard Krillin yell, “Goku’s crazy, but not that crazy!” “...meeee...” The warriors were beginning to run. Even Vejita. “Crap! That’s not good!” But suddenly, the glow high above us disappeared and Goku reappeared — right in front of Cell. “NooooooOOOOO!” Cell yelled. “HAAAA!” Goku screamed and let the energy loose full in Cell’s face. “Oh my God...” I whispered. Jimmy covered his face and tried to crawl inside me. I sank to the ground and gathered him into my arms again. When the smoke cleared, Cell was only half the android he used to be. “He did it. Jimmy...he did it!” I jumped to my feet and let out a whoop. Poor Jimmy fell on his butt. “Ow!” “He did it! He did it!” Why wasn’t everyone else celebrating? My arms fell straight to my side. Jimmy came up behind me. We were both staring down at the silent scene below us. Then suddenly, Krillin screamed, “Look out everyone! He’s going to regenerate!” The next thing that happened was possibly the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen. Cell’s legs jumped to their feet and there was this awful sucking sound. Both of us shrieked as the top of Cell burst from his middle, all covered in goo. I nearly retched, Jimmy screamed and ran behind a rock. And the battle raged on. There’ve been times in my life when I’ve been so totally engrossed in what I was watching, that everything else ceased to exist. Right now, there was only Cell and Goku. I couldn’t take my eyes off them. And I could tell Goku was beginning to labor. Cell had flown up and now the Saiyan was blasting him nonstop, but the android was shielding himself. Goku’s energy was doing nothing. Suddenly, to the consternation of all, Goku stopped and seemed to deflate. He drew himself up and, in answer to Cell’s taunt, he said, “You’re right. Everyone wants to see a champion.” and, to our utter amazement, he powered down. “I give up, Cell. I can’t beat you. You win.” I heard Vejita’s audible gasp. “You coward!” he cried. But somehow I knew this had nothing to do with cowardice. And to further amaze everyone, Goku said, “I want to appoint a fighter in my place.” I followed his line of vision and gasped. He was looking at his young son, Gohan. How could he? It would be like my appointing Jimmy... Jimmy. Oh, no. Where was Jimmy? I ran to the rock where he had hid. He wasn’t there. I couldn’t believe I had let him get away again! This time, I had to get him out of there. As I was searching, I looked toward Mr. Satan and saw him signal me, then point behind his back. And there was Jimmy, hiding behind his leg. I waved my arm at him. Well, will wonders never cease. As I made my way to Mr. Satan’s entourage, I saw Goku talking to his son. And as I hunkered down beside Jimmy and prepared to leave, I saw Gohan throw off his cape. We watched the young man as he faced the monster. We watched as he powered up. I looked at Jimmy and he at me. “I want to see this,” he whispered, his face full of awe. “Me, too, bud. Me, too.” ...continued...
