Parings: 1x2, 2x1 (eventual!) 3x4
Warnings: Heero doing what Heero does, cliff… um… jumper?
Notes: Yeah Webley (my action muse) decided he wanted to play again. He likes Heero, no surprise there. So yeah bit more action in this chapter. I was bored so thought I’d put up another chapter!
Thanks: To my little demons (my muses!) who would not let this story
lie.
Summary: Duo is living with Quatre and Trowa. But what no-one
realises is why. And what happens when they find out the truth,
especially Heero.

Chapter 16 – To Save His World
The mermaid had helped Heero swim out to the yacht. There he had learned that her name was Ruby and her sisters were Sapphire and Emerald. Not very original names, Heero had thought. He had thanked the mermaid then began to change into dry clothes. He could do many things but trying to infiltrate somewhere in wet clothes was not the easiest thing to do, as well as it being cold and uncomfortable. He decided to take a page out of Duo’s book. All black. He thanked himself for the foresight of bringing his guns with him. Somehow it was almost predictable Duo would get into trouble. For some reason his lover seemed to have a knack for it. Heero smiled, his lover, yes he could call Duo that again. And as soon as this was over he wanted to re-affirm the fact.
He sat on the yacht, looked up to the sky and sighed deeply.
“Sorry Duo. Hold on for me. I can’t get to you now. I’ll have to wait for the night.” He knew it wouldn’t be long but it would feel like it. He ran his fingers through his still damp bangs. He would have to moor the yacht nearby so that he wouldn’t have to go in the water again. He remembered passing a small jetty on his way along the coast. That would do it. He shivered at the thought of the cold sea. He still didn’t understand how Duo had coped with it. He wrapped his arms around himself as he felt himself shiver. He wished that the beautiful merman could have been there that moment.
The Japanese youth thought back to their one night of shared passion. He had been so warm, almost like a comfort blanket. As soon as Duo was back, Heero would see to it that he would never let him go again. He certainly didn’t want a repetition of this past year. Heero could still remember that night so clearly, as if it had been yesterday. The surprise in Duo’s eyes that quickly turned to lust. The feel of his soft, warm skin. The noises he had managed to drag from that beautiful mouth. The way his lithe body had moved under Heero’s own. Heero groaned, realising what the thoughts were doing to him. He needed to keep a clear head for the mission he had set himself.
The sky had been painted rosy shades as the clouds had moved on and Heero knew it was time to go. He started the engine on the yacht. It would have been pointless trying to sail against the tide. He quickly found the jetty he had seen before. It was a rickety wooden bridge in effect. It looked rather unstable but it would do the job that Heero needed. Once he had tied up he began strapping a few weapons to himself. He didn’t go for overkill. He was sure that this place wouldn’t be too well guarded, the location more of a deterrent than anything else. He ran along the jetty and up the beach. He looked over to the prison looking building that he could still just see. It was going to be a long jog but it would be no problem for him. Not when Duo was on the line.

It was pitch black by the time he arrived. The building had little lighting. Just enough for the walk up to the main door and at the door itself. He scanned the area and only saw two guards patrolling. They weren’t even paying that much attention. Security was certainly lax. They obviously hadn’t had many problems here. Heero grinned. It certainly made his job easier.
Beyond the wire fencing Heero could see a white sign. Cleary written on it in bold black letters was ‘Scientific and Experimental Research For Future Development’. He suddenly realised what it meant. It wasn’t ‘surfed’ like Ruby had thought; it was ‘SERFFD’, the initials for this place. However knowing the meaning only made Heero worry more; ‘experimental research’ sent warning bells ringing in his mind. No wonder none of the animals came back. He moved further down the fence where shadows would provide perfect cover. There was also a tree near enough he could use to scale it without hurting himself. He would think how to escape later when he had Duo with him. Getting in was his main priority for now. He scrambled up the tree before letting himself drop the other side. He glanced around before sprinting to the wall. Keeping himself close to it, he slid round until he could see the front door. The guards were nowhere in sight, no-one was. He ran to the door.
He opened the glass panel and slipped inside. The smell of a hospital hit him hard. It made him wrinkle his nose in disgust. It seemed so unnatural. Looking around he couldn’t see any cameras. More fool them. He walked through another door and found himself walking down a corridor. He quickly drew his gun, just in case. He turned a corner and noticed the doors on either side. He looked around then opened the nearest one. He was surprised to find the room filled with water and even more surprised when a dolphin swam up to him. He knelt down and let the dolphin come to him. He reached out a tentative hand and stroked the rubbery feeling creature. It clicked happily at him as if it hadn’t felt such a thing for a long time. It saddened Heero, how could these people keep a creature like this?
He closed the door again and looked back down the corridor. There were a lot of doors and Duo could have been behind any of them. Heero suddenly heard footsteps behind him. He turned and held his gun up. The man in the white coat nearly walked straight into him. Heero glared at the man.
“Where is he?” His voice came out in a snarl. The man looked shocked.
“Y- You mean Duo?” It was Heero’s turn to be shocked. He nearly lowered his gun. “He told me his name. I found him unconscious on the beach. I’m sorry to say I brought him here.
“So it’s your fault.” The glare intensified slightly and the hand holding the gun became perfectly steady.
“I’m sorry to say it is. I never wanted any harm to come to him. He was just so… well, he’s a miracle.” Heero remained silent. “You must have been who he was talking about.” Again Heero was surprised.
“What do you mean?”
“He asked me if there was anyone else on the beach.” So Duo had been thinking of him.
“So where is he?” The scientist looked guilty.
“The professor took him. He wouldn’t have anyone help him. I’m worried for Duo’s life.” At this Heero decided to lower his gun. “I’ll take you to him. You look like you can save him.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time.”
“Robert Thornton.” The man quickly introduced himself. After a moment Heero replied,
“Heero Yuy.”
“Well, Heero follow me.” Robert quickly led the way to the operating room.

Heero burst into the room, gun raised with Robert just behind him. Professor Leonard paused, the scalpel a hair breadths away from cutting into the flesh below it.
“Stop right there professor.” The older man glared at the intruder.
“How dare you interrupt such vital research.” Heero’s eyes narrowed,
“How dare you even think of touching him. He is a living person.”
“This is no person. No. He is so much more.”
“Yes he is and you will not lay a finger on him.” The professor moved away from the unconscious Duo and towards the two men. A broad smile crossed his face, it wasn’t a happy smile.
“Thornton. I should have guessed. This could have been your greatest discovery.”
“You mean yours. That’s what you wanted all along. Toss me aside and claim all the glory for yourself.”
“Clever man. Oh well, it’s a shame I’ll have to destroy the evidence.” The old man made a surprisingly fast dart forwards towards Robert, in his hand he still held the scalpel. Robert stood rooted to the spot, unable to move and jumped when the shot was fired. Red began to spread through the white coat as the man toppled forwards. Heero held the gun steadily, clearly used to killing. Robert turned to face him, shock written all over his face.
“You saved me… Who are you? Really?”
“Heero Yuy. Preventer. Wing Gundam pilot.” The scientist’s eyes widened further.
“Gundam? You were a Gundam pilot… You were the one that saved the Earth?” Heero nodded absently, more worried about his lover lying unconscious on the table. He moved forward and looked down. He noticed the IV embedded in his arm. Heero looked over to Robert. The scientist getting the point, moved over as well.
“Its how they’ve been keeping him under. When I take it out, it won’t take him long to wake up but he’s going to be groggy for a while.”
“Do it. I don’t think we’ll have long before someone turns up checking out that gun shot.” Robert nodded, quickly but efficiently taking out the IV. Heero picked up the unconscious merman, happier that he was in his arms and in one piece. “Now we just need to get out of here.”
“Follow me.” Neither man paid heed to the dead professor except to step over his body.
-x-
As they walked down the corridor Duo woke up,
“Heero?” His voice was hoarse. Prussian blue eyes gazed down at him.
“Yes it’s me.”
“You came for me?”
“Of course.”
“I feel ill.”
“Sorry.” Duo relaxed back, closing his eyes, letting Heero take his weight. The world was spinning around him and it was making him feel dizzy.
“Hey you! Stop!” A voice cried out behind them.
“Looks like we’ve been found.” Robert stated.
“We always find trouble Heero.” Duo murmured. Heero just grunted in reply, picking up the pace. A guard appeared around a corner in front of them. Heero felt Duo’s tail change back to legs. He hoped Duo would be able to stand soon.
“Quickly this way.” Robert led them down another corridor. It had only one door at the end. When they reached it, they opened it to find that it was the backdoor which led onto the cliff edge. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realise that it lead here.” He looked around frantically. There was only one way out. Off the cliff.
“I think I can stand now Heero.” Duo whispered. Heero slowly lowered him and waited until he found his balance. Duo still clung to him, suddenly very aware of his nakedness and the cold. They could hear the approaching guards. They backed up to the cliff edge. Hero looked down. It was a sheer drop.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll just say you held me hostage.” Heero nodded to the scientist.
“Thank you, I’ll send Preventers as soon as I can.” Robert nodded. Heero waited until the guards were reaching the door. He turned to Duo. “I trust you.” Duo looked down at the deep water below and understood what Heero meant. He nodded to him.
Before the guards could fire they jumped.
