Disclaimer: I don’t own DBZ, and if I did, I could think of doing things with certain saiyan characters that wouldn’t be put into the words of a fanfic.
Chapter 1
Laina was tired. She had just gotten off of work and was not looking forward to walking into the tornado that was her home. She and her husband, Ronald had split up six months ago, leaving her to take care of the mess he left behind. She was thirty-five years old, he was forty. He acted more like sixteen. He had left her for another woman that worked in the same office as he did.
She wasn’t really all that surprised, as she felt that this was a long time coming anyways. She just wished that their kids weren’t hurt from all this shit. She was rather young when she had their son, Jayce, who was nineteen. She had been sixteen when she had him. (A/N: while I am the last person to say that you shouldn’t have sex before marriage, if you don’t want to pay, then don’t play, but if you do, please wear a raincoat =)) They married not too long afterwards and a few years later had their daughter Lily, who was now thirteen. Their children were just as hurt as she was. Jayce had become sullen and withdrawn, always ready for a fight and Lily was overly emotional.
Laina sighed. Before the split, she and the kids had a pretty good rapport. They even had fun. Usually around six o’clock they would settle around the television. Her son was into an anime series called Dragonball Z. They would watch together. He had gotten her hooked, and watching the show brought back memories of her own youth. But now, he would just come home from work and hide in his bedroom, cranking up his stereo, shutting everyone away. Lily would come home from school, do her homework then run outside with her friends until it was time to come home for dinner. Then she would retreat to her own room until the next day. It was a sad routine around the house now.
Laina still watched the show, mainly out of habit now. And hoping that she could bring their little family back together.
She walked into the house and dropped her purse and keys on the table by the door. She could hear Jayce’s stereo cranking out Korn, rather loudly, a pretty good song actually. Lily’s backpack was on the couch, with no sign of her anywhere. She shrugged out of her jacket and hung it in the closet. She could feel her anger simmering. The house was a wreck, and she was damned sick and tired of looking at it. She walked into the living room and started straightening things up. She fluffed the throw pillows from the couch, actually pounding them. She had to admit it felt pretty good. She went and retrieved the vacuum. She had the living room and dining room in order in no time. She went into the kitchen and started dinner, cleaning it as she cooked. Lily came in as soon as dinner was done. Jayce came out of his room long enough to make himself a plate to take back to his room, not saying anything as usual.
She and Lily sat at the dining room table to eat their dinner. Lily picked at the food. Laina was worried about her daughter. Lily had changed a lot from the happy go lucky kid she used to be.
“ What’s wrong, honey?” Laina asked.
Lily shrugged her shoulders, her cheek resting in the palm of her hand.
“ Nothing.”
“ Do you want to talk about it?”
Lily shrugged again. Laina wanted to know what was wrong but wasn’t sure on how to approach it. “ Well, if you want to talk about it, you know where you can find me.”
Lily threw her fork down into her plate, her face a mask of anger. “That’s just it mom! Where are you, huh? You work and then when you come home, you’re too tired to do anything!” Tears started running down Lily’s face. She jumped up from the table and ran to her room, slamming the door. Hard.
Laina was shocked. She had never realized that she was keeping herself from her own kids. *I guess I have my own sad routine too,* she thought. She cleared off the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher.
