Understanding and Relinquishing Faith
All right people, thanks for the reviews. Still working on this chapter at one pace at a ttime. Trying to gather all my thoughts you know? Anyways, this should give you a nice preview at best for this chapter. If you see any mistakes, please let me know. Make suggestions. Thanks again.;p
And to Amethyst-eyed Koneko I will tell why that stuff happened in a further chapter. It'll be back and forth to why Roy isn't there and why Ed is. I promise you I won't leave you in the dark or any other of my faithful readers. You paid great attention to that matter. Thank you! I will make the third chapter go back and explain everything I promise!
Before Edward Appeared Home…
Fires had sprung up everywhere and it seemed never ending. The musky stench of dead bodies and blood hanging in the reddened sky above. War seemed to never cease as bullets whizzed overhead and the sounds of booms everywhere. His men were losing their lives due to territory being fought over. Edward thought it stupid to fight over land, but that didn’t stop the on slaughter.
Edward grabbed at his shoulder as a newly formed wound bled freely. He searched thoroughly through the medical bag for any cloth to stop the wound from bleeding profusely, but had no such luck. Edward stuck his head over the trench before realizing that half his men were gone. Either dead or possible POW, he didn’t know. He looked around as another bullet whizzed by, in hoping that a soldier would spot him and inform one of the commanding officers about him. If he didn’t get help soon, he would have to do something, anything, to keep the life inside of him safe. Edward got up and spotted a nearby coat and tore the sleeve off of it and wrapped it securely around the wound. Noticing as one of the soldiers approached him.
“Major Elric, what should we do know sir?” The soldier looked a bit shaken as he saluted.
Edward returned the salute. “Judging by the death rate, a retreat may be in order. I’m leaving the First Lieutenant in charge because I have to take leave.”
The soldier saluted and ran off to find the First Lieutenant to tell him of the retreat. Edward took this as a chance to start heading south and back to Central. Edward knew that if he didn’t make it within a day’s time, he would die or be near death. So with that, he headed to the train station and back home.
Present time….
Edward woke to a start when the memories went through his head. His head jerked and found himself face to face with his sleeping husband. Their hands still linked from falling asleep earlier and Edward had smiled inwardly before feeling pain being shot harshly through his shoulder. His first smile in those many horrible months. He found that his nights were becoming less and less of much needed sleep. Dreams of murder and that god awful stench lingering. Drowning his senses in something that wouldn’t easily be taken away. Even though touch wasn’t something that could be described in dreams, he had felt it. Felt the cold flesh of the damned as life slowly slipped from their bodies. The cold stare that haunted even the strongest of men. Edward shivered before pulling the covers back over his body. Slowly being consumed by the warmth and life growing within him. Edward placed his automail arm behind his head to prop it up. He sighed and still wondered what would’ve happened if he hadn’t taken that one opportune moment to escape. He closed his eyes once more to savor the touch of his beloved. Without noticing, he had gently squeezed Roy’s hand, who in turn, drew in a deep breath. Roy’s eyes fluttered open, then closed slowly, to pull him out of his sleepy state. He took a moment before looking over to Edward and smiled.
Edward then muttered a soft “sorry” before noticing that Roy’s lips were mere inches from his own. Roy took that moment and pressed their lips together for a brief moment.
Roy then parted from Edward and muttered his own response. “What’s on your mind?”
Edward shrugged with his automail shoulder and sighed once again, “I guess everything?”
Roy looked deep into those golden orbs finding a mix of emotions. The look of sadness those beautiful eyes held down to the fear. It was amazing how war changed a man, he himself knew that feeling. It was a time of understanding between the two and Roy sighed. He pulled Edward tight against him and kissed his young lover’s forehead. Edward let a single tear glide down his face before wiping it away. Roy reassured Edward as he laid his head against Roy’s shoulder. Both sighed contentedly as the first morning rays of the sun shown through the blinds. The rays fell along the outline of their legs beneath the blankets. Both feeling the warmth it was sharing with them.
Edward stretched his tired limbs and got out of the bed. Roy groaned at the loss of warmth and rolled over, hiding his face in the pillow beneath him. Edward pulled on his black leather pants then bounded downstairs. Roy looked up as he heard the sound of Edward’s automail leg make fast clumping sounds down the hall and stairs. He just couldn’t understand how Edward goes from a somber mood to happy and bounding down the stairs. He shook his head and let his face fall right back into the depths of the pillow. He sighed before grinning madly and let his eyes close once more.
Before long the scent of food reached Roy’s senses and he arose from bed. Slipping on his white dress shirt and black pants, he dashed down the stairs. The kitchen table was loaded with delicious food, from scrambled eggs down to the fresh squeezed orange juice. Edward turned around and smiled happily, but Roy knew better. He knew and saw deep within Edward’s eyes, the hurt that was deep inside. Roy sighed then kissed Edward lightly on the lips in thanks for the food.
Roy poured himself a glass of orange juice and scooped up a ladle full of eggs. He rest the fluffy eggs on the side of his plate before reaching for the hash browns and dumping a small helping on his plate. He took a bite of the eggs and savored the wonderful taste. Before dipping down again, he looked at Edward, noticing that his lover was pushing the food around absentmindedly. Getting tired of seeing his younger companion like this, he placed his fork gently onto the side of his place. Walking behind Edward, he placed his arms around Edward’s shoulders and hugged him tight. “Ed you can’t keep on with this. Every time I look into those graceful golden eyes, I see hurt and betrayal. Why would you even think of these things?”
“I-I rather not talk about it Roy,” Edward shifted himself away from Roy’s hold and back to hovering over his food.
Growing tired of the attitude, Roy spun Edward around and grasped both shoulders firmly. “Ed look at me. As your commanding officer and husband, I order you to tell me what the hell is wrong!”
Edward stared into the deep onyx eyes and let his head fall to his chest. “Roy you were almost killed in that war. It could have ended in a flash, all gone. I saw you on that stretcher and I nearly fell to my knees. I saw you get shot in the chest, and it tore me from the inside. Then along the damn lines, one of the friends I made died in my hands. Others were too late to send him off before they reached him.” Edward sighed and wiped away the oncoming tears. “I almost lost the father of our kids.” Edward then placed Roy’s hand on his stomach. “I had to run away after that. I ran from the front lines because of the life in me and to see you.”
There was a pause before Edward started again. “I don’t give a damn if they demote me. I don’t care if they even strip me of my title. I’m tired of wars and watching people die.” Edward shifted his head as Roy placed Edward’s hand over his heart.
Roy smiled, which in turn, Edward smiled sadly. “I am always with you, whether in spirit or right by your side. I am always yours. Now if you are done ranting, I believe we have a day to catch up on.”
Edward placed a gentle kiss on Roy’s lips before getting up and placing the remaining food in containers. Then setting the dirty dishes in the sink and bounding back up the stairs to get ready for the day ahead.
And to Amethyst-eyed Koneko I will tell why that stuff happened in a further chapter. It'll be back and forth to why Roy isn't there and why Ed is.
