Gohan's Memories
CHAPTER: 2
*** Goten ***
“That’s it! I have had enough of watching this show!” He walked over and switched off the College Wrestling tournament. He got up off of the sofa and walked over to the kitchen, while stumbling over the cordless phone parked on the floor where he had been desperately trying to reach his brother’s office. He looked at it and thought to himself, "that damn secretary of his, why she doesn’t understand when something is important is beside me!" He continued his wander into the kitchen; he peered into the refrigerator and saw nothing but his father’s beer. “Father you really need to stop drinking so much. Even my life is not as bad to require so much alcohol, and mine is pretty bad!”
Goten closed the fridge and started walking up the stairs to the upper floor of the house. He walked down the hallway until he reached his own bedroom. He sat down on his bed and pulled out his cell phone from his pocket. “I am really glad I have you, otherwise my life would be lost without contact to my close friends.” He started dialing a number that he had been dialing for many years. He placed the phone up to his ear, and heard the ringing coming from the other end. "Pick up Trunks! I really need to talk to you!" The other line never got picked up, and he decided that Trunks was out with someone. Goten laid on his bed and started to stare up at the ceiling, some party...
***
Goten looked at the clock; 11:56 was showing on the bright green numbers. He decided to get up and see what Gohan was so late at work for, what was he working on? Goten walked out of his room, and walked down to the next room down the hallway. “Ah! Gohan’s old room, excellent!” He peered into his brother’s room; there was his queen sized bed, for when Videl and he used to live at home. His desk was completely covered with papers. Goten walked over to the desk and picked up a sheet of paper, it had complicated math equations and science formulas. “Bleh! Oh Gohan, I feel so sorry for you!” Upon gently putting the paper back down onto the desk, Goten came across the bookshelf.
“Gohan’s memory shelf…” Goten knew his brother loved his pictures; they were like solid form of his memories. He looked at all of the pictures from even before his own birth. “Look at that one! It is of him and dad! There’s one of the whole family. There’s one of him defeating cell.” Goten loved to sneak into Gohan’s room when he was a child, and look at this particular picture. For as long as he could remember, Goten always looked up to his brother, but Gohan always told him that he was not very powerful. Goten never believed him, Gohan had much more power than most would give him credit for. On occasion in the old days, Gohan would rescue Trunks and himself if anything ever happened. Gohan always raved about their father, but Goku was never there when he was a child. No, it was Gohan who was his hero.
Goten came across the one picture that his brother always cherished, his wedding photo. It was in a golden frame, with "love" engraved into the top of the frame. It was shining under the light; obviously it was meant to be the focal point of the entire memory shelf. Goten gently picked up the picture and frame very gently as to now break anything. He peered at the happiness that was in his brother. Gohan was not like that anymore, he was always so depressed now-a-days. Goten remembered the times when his brother was happy; back when there was little worry in the world, and Videl and him were married. "Until that day…" All of a sudden a giant clash of lightning and thunder came sizzling across the sky from outside. It startled Goten so much that he dropped the picture.
***
Goten knew that the outcome of this situation would not be pretty, he closed his eyes tightly. He did not want to see what just happened. He slowly opened his eyes and glanced down at the broken wreckage. “Oh my god!!!!” He squealed like a little girl. “I am going to be so dead if Gohan ever notices that I broke his most precious photo!!!” Goten got a broom, and swept up the glass and broken gold picture frame. “At least the photo survived!” Goten held up the half shredded photo of Gohan and Videl. “Damn it! Why does this always have to happen to me!?” Goten was in panic mode. "What will Gohan do to me if he sees this mess? Will he completely kill me? Will he disown me? Will he tell their parents, I cannot take another beating from Dad again! Last time really hurt when I cleared out the fridge of his beer."
Goten tried to compose himself, he was known to be crafty and sneaky! He got tin foil, and started to match the shape of the half eaten photo. He got some spray paint colored gold, from his science project. "I love when I am a genius!" He had a smile on his face. Then he walked upstairs again, and got some cardboard, and a marker. He wrote on the now gold, crumpled foil, "Love" and drew stick figures on the cardboard for the remaining parts of the bodies and faces that were completely shredded.
He looked at his sorry, pathetic excuse of a replication. "I hope this works." He realized time was up. Goten could hear the front door open up; someone was home, and if it was Gohan it was also the end of his life…
*** Gohan ***
“Thank goodness that I finished up that paperwork pretty fast. I feel like doing nothing but going home.” Gohan started loosening up his aqua blue tie from his white dress shirt. As he passed by his secretary she glanced up at him. “Your brother has been trying to reach you for about an hour.” She said in the nasally voice she had. “Did you try to transfer it into my office?” Gohan was not happy with her efforts at this time. She would be given tasks to help him out, and she failed at them every single time. "What made my hire this woman?" Gohan folded his hands. "No, you said that you did not want to be disturbed…” She started to tear up. “Yes, by Bulma. My brother is a different story.” He sprinted out of the office, and down the stairs.
He reached the entrance of the parking garage, and unlocked his car. "What am I doing? This thing will be too slow, but I cannot just leave it here…" He got back out of the car, and closed the door. He put his hands under the door frame, and lifted the car up into the air. This will be much faster. He walked it outside of the parking garage and took off into the air. "This would have been a good time to have gotten the model that actually went back into the capsule." Gohan sighed and continued towards his parent's house.
***
He landed just a few minutes later, at the front lawn of his parent’s house. Gohan gently placed his car in the spot in the driveway where his car is usually parked. He looked over and saw that his parent’s car was not in the usual place. He walked up to the front door, dug around in his pocket for his keys and opened the door. Gohan walked in and was abruptly greeted by his brother in an unusual manner.
“Hi Gohan!” Goten was nervous about something. Gohan could tell.
“Hey Goten, what have you been up to?” Gohan pried at his brother to see what he was so nervous about and why he had called his office for over an hour.
“I have been trying to call Trunks, but he would not pick up his phone. I wanted to hang out with him this evening. No go with that plan though.” Goten laughed a little cautiously. Gohan ignored his brother’s answer, and continued onto his room. He dropped his briefcase by the door and walked up the wooden staircase. He started to walk down the hall way, and passed Goten’s room, which the door was oddly closed.
He started reaching for his own room’s door knob, when he heard Goten say something. “Father was looking for you; he said to contact him as it was important.” Gohan looked at his brother, and wondered why all of a sudden he told him the reason for calling him at the office and what the hurry was.
“Alright then, where is he?” Gohan looked across the hallway to his parent’s bedroom. It was empty. “They went to a party at Master Roshi’s house.” Goten stared at his brother waiting for a response. “Alright then I will contract him when I get into more comfortable clothes." Gohan started to turn the knob on his door.
“No! He said it was absolutely imperative that you contact him immediately.” Gohan thought to himself a bit before turning away and walked back down the hallway. He floated down the staircase and reached the front door.
***
"Why is Goten being so odd tonight? Hmm…I guess if dad said something of that nature something must have come up, and I guess I should really get going then." He looked up before exiting the front door, “Catch you later, Goten.” Gohan flew up off of the ground, and Goten stayed in the front door frame breathing a sigh of relief.
