Vegeta’s POV
‘What is that? That smell…it smells…foreign. It smells…safe…warm…how do I know that if I’ve never smelled this before? Is this a dream? Maybe I’m starting to wake up.’
I try opening my eyes. I slowly open my still heavy lids as a blurry picture comes into view. I blink a few more times to clear it. I believe I’m staring at a ceiling. My eyes open all the way. ‘Did I land already? How long was I out? When did I fall asleep? Where am I? And what is that smell?!’ I looked around more as I tried to find answers to my questions.
When I looked to my right, I saw a boy with wild black hair clad in blue standing at a counter or a table, his back was facing me. I tried moving to sit up and question the boy, but I found that painful and useless. Instead I winced and moaned. I looked down at myself and I noticed I was wrapped in bandages and a blanket was covering half of my body. The boy heard me and rushed over. He has a smile on his face…why is that?
“Hey! You finally woke up! I was beginning to wonder if you were dead or not.” The boy leaned over and smiled at me real wide. Then his smile faded, “You were really bloody, but then I carried you home and wrapped you up. What happened to you? Where did you come from? I got you out of that weird round thing. I’ve never seen anything like it before!”
It’s only been a minute or so and this kid was beginning to annoy me already. I growled to warn him to shut up, but he mistook it to continue to question my ear off. “Are you feeling ok? Are you hungry? What’s your name?”
“Would you…shut up already?! I should be…asking you…these questions!” I struggled to get my voice out and yell at him.
He finally stopped talking for a bit, but then that annoying smile came back. “Oh, well…my name’s Goku! And I was just fixing something to eat! Do you like fish?”
‘Even his eyes are smiling! How can someone have…joy written all over them! I could murder him! No one should be this annoying!’ Then, I saw something at the corner of my eye. It was brown, and waving back and forth behind the boy. ‘Wait a minute…is that a…tail?!’ I looked on in shock as the boy continued to happily stare at me.
“You have a…tail?” I questioned him to see if my eyes were working correctly.
He looked behind him and then moved the object of my sight directly in front of me. “Yeah! Hey! I also noticed that you have one too!” He pointed at my brown appendage that lied limply next to me.
“When were you…sent here?” I asked on in shock, ignoring the boy’s naïveté.
That smile faded and was replaced with puzzlement on the boy’s round face. “What do you mean ‘sent here?’” That damn smile came back. “I live here! Hey! You didn’t say where you were from!” I winced as he yelled ‘hey’ again for the third time.
“I…” I’m not sure if I should tell him that I came from our enemy’s ship. He might get the wrong idea. Then again…“what do you mean you…live here? Did you crash land here? Or were you sent here…as a child?” I questioned further as his earlier answer stumped me.
He laughed at me then. ‘How dare he?! I am his Prince! How dare he mock me when I’m simply trying to get information from him!’ “I think you hurt yourself really bad. You’re not making any sense.” He moved his head closer to me, like he’s not sure of my composure. ‘Moron!’
I didn’t have the strength to beat him senseless, so I came at him with another question. “Who’s your father?” If I know who his father is, maybe I can find out who this kid is.
He looked at me with confusion again. “I don’t know. My grandpa found me on a bed of moss out in the woods and he took me in.” ‘Grandpa?’ Damn that smile! “Who’s yours?”
I blinked at him and looked away to study my surroundings. “Where am I?”
The boy rested his head on his hands as he gazed on at me. ‘Stop staring!’ “At my grandpa’s house!” He shouted excitedly, like I should be ecstatic to be here.
I growled again at his excitement and in annoyance. ‘I swear, I’m going to beat that smile off his face if he doesn’t cut it out! And that wasn’t the answer I was looking for, but no matter.’ “Where is your…grandfather. I want to talk to him.” I weakly demanded as I tried moving into a sitting position. ‘Maybe he can give me some information.’
The boy moved out of the way as he watched me try and sit up. That smile faded again. ‘And I just know it’ll be back.’ “He died-”
“Where the hell are my clothes?!” I interrupted him when I looked at myself.
He smiled again. I would’ve sighed in defeat if I didn’t know how painful it was going to be. “They were all torn up, so I threw them away.” The smile faded again. ‘I swear, that thing comes and goes as quickly as blinking.’ “You’re still all bloody. Do you want me to help you wash off?”
I looked at him like he just told me he sold his brain. “No! I can wash myself! Now out of my way!” I watched as he looked at me quizzically then scurried out of the way.
I hopped down from the bed and held myself up. I grabbed a blanket from the bed to cover myself. “Now…where’s the bath at?” I struggled to ask in my odd position.
He stared at me, like he was still debating whether or not he should wash me himself. I looked at him more as I studied his appearance. ‘Damn, he’s taller than me! I don’t like being looked down upon!’ I studied his build. ‘At least he still appears to be Saiyan. Then why doesn’t he act like one?’ I growled in impatience. “If you go in the woods, you can wash off in the river.”
‘The river?’ “You don’t have a bath?! I have to go in the river?!” ‘Why couldn’t a rich bastard find me?’
“Yep!” He nodded vigorously. “You want me to come with you?” He asked seriously.
I growled again. “No! I’ll be fine on my own!”
I made my way to the door of the tiny house and went outside. It was dark. I shivered as the wind blew gently around me. I looked ahead and noticed the woods were the front yard. “Are you sure you want to wash right away? I’m cooking fish! Are you hungry?” He ran past me as he went to the obvious source of his food.
There was an enormous fish sitting above a small fire. The boy went over by it and poked at the fish to see if it was done. ‘That’s a fish? It looks like a whale!’ He stopped poking at it then turned back to me. “It’s ready! You want some?” He asked excitedly.
I let out a slow sigh and gave in to my now growing hunger and followed him toward the awaiting meal.
After eating the monstrous fish, the boy stood up abruptly, “That was good! Hahaha! I’m going to get another one!” ‘And he still has an appetite like a Saiyan.’ I smirked. He excitedly ran off into the dark, then paused to look back at me. “Hey! You wanna come with me? You can wash yourself while I go fish!”
I looked at the boy incredulously. “Whatever.” ‘Why not? It might be the only time I can wash myself. Anything to get him to shut up.’
I slowly stood up and hunched over a little to keep my back from hurting. ‘I’m still greatly injured. How the hell is my tail supposed to heal?’ I trudged after the happy child as I followed him to the river.
‘Damn it. I still don’t know where I am. Maybe I should’ve asked what planet I was on? No, then I would get more questions!’ I growled in remembrance of how annoying that was. ‘I wonder where he found me. It should be somewhere nearby. Then I can look at the ships computer and see which planet I landed on.’ I focused my attention on the boy in front of me, who is happily laughing and walking in an odd manner. ‘Maybe I can even look up this kid’s profile and see who the hell he is. What did he say his name was? Go-, Go-what? Hn. Whatever it is, it certainly isn’t a Saiyan name. Since he doesn’t know who his father is, it’s safe to say that he didn’t crash land here. He must’ve been sent here as a child. Then his Pod must be around somewhere. He said his grandfather found him in the woods. Is it these woods? Must be, since it’s…right here and all. Then I’ll find his Pod and get his profile off of that. If he could tell me where his ship is…’
“Hey!” I winced again as he rudely interrupted my train of thought. “You didn’t tell me what your name was!” The boy quickly slowed down and started walking my pace to ‘chat’ with me.
“It’s Pr-, uh, Vegeta.” I answered a little annoyed. ‘I can’t trust this kid, yet. He certainly doesn’t act Saiyan. The beings that may inhabit this planet might be enemies. It’s too risky.’
“Vegeta? That’s a funny name! Why were you named that?” He grinned at me like he’s trying to show the world how grand everything is.
I growled and stopped walking. ‘That’s it! I’ve had it with this kid! I know he’s not going to shut up anytime soon if I don’t give him any answers. But, who knows, maybe…’ “I was named after my father and my home planet.” I glanced at him quizzically.
He stopped walking as well and looked at me seriously. “Wow! You’re from another planet?! Woa! And you have the same name as your dad?! Wouldn’t that be confusing?” He looked at me, amazed beyond belief.
I put my hand over my face. ‘I think it’s safe to say that he doesn’t know anything. Why not? I don’t have anything left anyway.’ “No, not really. See, our people called him King Vegeta and they would call me Prince Vegeta.” I stood proudly, as painful as it was, and put my hand on my chest as I told him my title.
He stared at me. “Your dad is a King? Are they the ones that where those round, shiny things on their heads?” He gestured with his hands as he outlined a circle on his head.
Now it was my turn to stare at him. ‘Is this kid for real?! Maybe he did sell his brain!’ I slowly nodded then shook my head and came to my senses. “Kings are of high importance! They are the leaders of their people! They keep their people in order and develop ways of trade to make them more powerful! The ‘round, shiny things’ are crowns! And yes, they are the one’s that wear them, but only when they’re of age to receive such a high honor!” My voice became sarcastic when I mimicked his definition of a crown. I was breathing heavily as I basically shouted at him what a King was.
It took him a moment to soak all the information in. “Woa! That’s a lot of stuff! They sound important! Can I meet him?” He took a few steps closer as he got more excited about my father.
I was taken back by his sudden excitement. ‘Apparently, his excitedness comes and goes as quickly as that annoying smile.’ “Uh…you can’t.”
He looked at me with a sad look, “Aw, why not?”
“Because he’s dead!” I answered angrily. A little ashamed that such an important person was gone. Not only ashamed, but sad. He taught me everything there was about how to become a great leader and a warrior. Then when I was five, Frieza kidnapped me. How could Father let that happen? ‘Maybe he was busy with other duties or…maybe he…What else could there be? It’s not like father handed me to Frieza! Or…did he?’
My thoughts were once again interrupted as the kid voiced his thoughts. “Oh…so, are you by yourself now? Like me?”
I nodded. “Yeah…I guess I am.”
The kid was suddenly ecstatic. “Great! You can live with me then!” I started to panic a little when he grabbed my hand in absolute happiness.
‘Great? It’s great that my father’s dead? It’s great that I’m all by myself? Alone? Well, he did say I could live with him…maybe that’s what he meant.’ “So, where’s this river at? It’s…not exactly ‘wonderful’ out here.” I took my hand back and crossed my arms as I waited for the jumping boy to explain himself.
He stopped. “Oh, it’s this way! C’mon!” He laughed and carried on.
‘I’ve never seen anyone so happy constantly in my life! Is this normal? I don’t think so. He’s a Saiyan! No Saiyan is THAT happy! No Saiyan smiles THAT much!’ As the boy continued walking on in a happy manner, I studied him more. ‘Maybe…it’s possible that…he has forgotten who he is? Yes…that has to be it! Damn it! I need to find his Pod! But I doubt he knows where it is. I’ll have to search for it myself. It couldn’t be far. I’ll search for it tomorrow.’
“Here it is!” He pointed excitedly at the rushing water. “I’m going to get a fish! You can come in and wash if you want!” With that said, he immediately began to strip.
“Wha-!” ‘I can’t believe this kid! Doesn’t he have any shame?!’
He stopped once he was completely naked and stared at me in confusion. “What’s wrong, Vegeta?”
“Do you have to show all your glory in front of me?! Don’t you feel any humiliation?!” I practically tried shielding my eyes from the sight.
He looked at me, obviously confused. “Show all my what?” When he didn’t get a verbal response and only a growl, he continued. “I always go fishing this way!” He answered happily and with that he jumped into the water with a ‘woo-hoo!’
‘What the…! Ok…calm down. He obviously doesn’t know any better. If he really does have amnesia, then someone’s got to teach him the right and wrong of things. Especially if I’m going to have to re-teach him about our race. Ugh, it’s like babysitting. I’ve never really been good with other children. But…he’s a Saiyan. Probably the only one left. I’m surprised that there’s not more of them out there. Seeing as how we always went off planet, but…that’s a curiosity I’ll look into at another time. For now, this one needs me.’ I take a deep breath and slowly let it out, then make my way towards the river.
I look around for any sign of the boy then, when he’s no where to be found, I take off the blanket that was securely wrapped around my waist. I slowly step into the gently moving water to test it’s temperature and find that it’s kind of cold. ‘Now, now, don’t be a coward. Think how good it’ll feel on your wounds…and this is probably the only bath you’ll have!’ I sighed, then made my way deeper into the river. When I’m in waist deep, I quickly dunk myself a few times to get used to the water. I gasped as the cold water hit the wounds on my back, but I stayed in the water. As I became more comfortable, I sat on my knees, I soaked my body for a while and scrubbed myself a little to get the dried blood and whatever else off. ‘Disgusting! I wonder how long I’ve been like this? If only I could find my ship, I would know! It’s alright, I’ll look for it tomorrow.’
I looked around and found out I was still alone. ‘Wonder if he drowned?’ I stared at the slow moving current and thought about how care free the boy was. ‘No, don’t start worrying about him now! Like he said, he’s done this a hundred times!’ I kept my mind off of him as I looked around me. ‘This place seems peaceful. Everything is green. I don’t see any sign of civilization nearby. Wonder if there’s any here at all? Damn I need my ship.’ I tried concentrating on other things, then looked up at the sky. I sighed as I looked at the planet’s moon. ‘Well, at least they have a moon. Good thing it’s not full tonight, I really don’t think I could put up with a full moon right now. Hm. It’s white. What an odd color for a moon. It doesn’t look very interesting. It just has a bunch of craters on it. I wonder if the boy knows about it? No, I doubt it. If he has amnesia…there’s no way he knows about the transformation. Pity.’
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, then smelled something familiar, yet completely foreign. “What is that smell?” I wondered aloud.
“Isn’t it great?” I freaked out when I heard the voice right beside me.
I saw the boy grinning as I cautiously looked his way. He already had his ‘whale’ and it was sitting on the bank behind us. He was also looking at the moon. When he didn’t get a response he closed his eyes and also took a deep breath and exhaled. “I always loved the smell of the outdoors.” He looked at me and his grin turned into a smile.
‘It must be the smell of life on this planet. It’s…different. Peaceful yet, magical in a way. Weird how I just described that. But, the scent is getting stronger. What is it?’ I turned my nose toward my new companion’s way and kept sniffing. ‘It’s the same smell I woke up with. What is it?’ I stopped when I felt a warm presence in front of my face and opened my eyes. My face immediately heated as I came face to face with the only presence around and backed away and quickly turned my attention else where. ‘I can’t believe I let myself lose control like that!’
I looked back at him and he was still staring at me. A slow smile graced his features again. ‘I think I’m starting to get used to that odd smile of his.’ “What do I smell like?” His curious voice broke the tensed silence.
I was stumped. “What are you talking about?! I wasn’t smelling you!” I blushed more furiously as I got caught. ‘Once again, I could die, but for a whole different reason!’
The smile lessened somewhat. “Oh.”
I stared back at the water to keep my attention elsewhere, then I felt something warm on my shoulder. I turned my head to see what it was to come face to face with the idiot. I jumped back in alarm and regretted it. I leaned forward a bit for the aching to stop and tried not to show any signs of pain. I heard a chuckle. “You’re jumpy.” ‘Okay, now that smile is starting to annoy me again! Don’t laugh at me!’
“What were you doing?!” I managed to accuse him.
“I was wondering what you smelled like!” He answered happily.
‘You’d think he was hitting on me! Hn. I bet he wouldn’t know how to do that anyway. Let alone know what it is.’
“You smell kind of like blood, but then you have this other odd smell…I can’t really tell what it is.” He’s deep in thought.
“Are you going to eat that fish or what?” I directed his attention elsewhere, which was easy enough.
“Oh yeah! I almost forgot!” He was about to walk over to it when he looked at me again. “You know, I should help you take those bandages off. I bet you’ll get clean better.”
“Uh…no that’s perfectly fine!” I shied away from him by going deeper in the water.
“Oh c’mon, Vegeta! It’ll be better, I promise!” He came a little closer, fish forgotten.
“Back off! I can take care of myself!” I hugged myself.
“Aw, but I wanna help! C’mon Vegeta!” He came closer.
“Well don’t help! I don’t need it!” I tried growling.
“It’s okay. I just wanna help you with your bandages.” He came closer still.
“If it’ll shut you up and leave me alone!” I gave up and walked past him toward the shallow water and waited. ‘Damn he’s persistent.’
He smiled victoriously and walked behind me. ‘Oh crap! I forgot that he’s naked! I hope another incident doesn’t happen like before!’ I tensed as I waited for him to touch my back. When I didn’t feel anything, I spared a glance behind me. He was staring at me again. I shivered. “Now what?”
“I’m not going to hurt you. Just relax.” He waited until my shoulders sagged hesitantly, then he began to gently unwrap the bandages. I winced as the last of it stuck to my wounds. “I don’t know what happened, but you sure got beat up pretty bad.” He began washing the bandages in the water.
I slowly stepped away from him and into the deeper part of the river again to soak my back. I felt something to my side and saw that it was my tail floating on the surface. ‘How the hell am I suppose to fix that? Wonder if the happy-ass Saiyan has a healing treatment for it?’ I looked skeptically at him as he continued to wash the bloody bandages.
After he finally got them cleaned, he bunched them together and set them on the bank. “Maybe it was your yelling that got you in trouble.” He wondered out loudly and smiled.
I growled. “What do you know?! Nothing! Now stop getting into my business before I beat you senseless!” ‘I’ve had about enough of this…clown.’
He looked at me for a moment. “Hey, Vegeta!” *Wince* “Do you know how to fight?! Do you? Do you? Do you train?” He was really hyped up. More so than I’ve seen him all night.
“Yes, of course I do!” I glared.
“That’s amazing! We can test our strength tomorrow!” He calmed down a bit. “Oh, unless you’re feeling alright.”
I groaned inwardly. ‘Uh, this kid’s going to drive me insane.’ “I have other plans tomorrow. Maybe some other time.” I looked to the side as he looked down in disappointment. ‘As much as the feeling to beat him into a pulp is tempting, I need to take care of some things first.’ “You better eat that before it spoils.” I reminded him for the second time. ‘I’m sick of being out here already. I’m actually starting to get tired. Even after all the sleep I’ve had. However long that was.’
His hand went behind his head. “Oh yeah. I keep forgetting about it, don’t I?” He asked with a grin. He turned and got the fish and picked up his clothes that were hanging along a stick. ’I guess so his clothes won’t get wet when he carries them? Never thought of that.’ “Vegeta, are you coming?”
I looked up at him. “Y-yeah.”
He looked around for the blanket I had earlier and picked it up for me as I climbed out of the river. He held it out as I snatched it out of his hand and wrapped it around my body this time, instead of around my waist. ‘Crap it’s cold! I better not get sick!’ I let him get a head start and watched him drag the fish behind him, with the tail of it slung over his shoulder. I slowly followed the fish and stared at it’s dead gaze. I shifted my gaze as I sought to look at something more pleasant. Then, the boy’s tail caught my eye. I followed it’s movement with my eyes. ‘Pathetic! He hardly has any control of it! Someone could easily…’ I watched it for sometime, then before I knew it, we were back at the tiny, but nice house.
I headed inside as the kid got his fish ready to gobble down again. ‘Ugh, that kid has the most horrible manners when he eats.’ I berated myself again. ‘Right, he doesn’t know any better. Forgot. This is going to take some getting used to.’ I dried off. I let the blanket drop to the floor and searched around for something to wear. ‘Hm. I guess I have no choice but to sleep naked again.’ I spotted a blanket at the foot of the bed and laid it above the sheet, then quickly got underneath the covers. I shivered underneath the cool sheets as I waited for them to warm up.
I waited for what seemed like an hour for sleep, but I couldn’t get warm. ‘Damn it! Maybe I am sick! Curse him!’ I shut my eyes and curled myself up tighter. ‘If only my tail wasn’t broken! I’d at least have some warmth!’ My tail twitched subconsciously as I thought about wrapping it around myself. The shivers started to wrack my frame harder, then I heard the boy come through the door noisily. He yawned and stretched then headed toward the bed. ‘He’s still naked!’ He walked around to the other side then climbed into bed with me. ‘Wait a minute. What the hell is he doing?!’ I didn’t move until he lightly pressed himself into my back.
I sat up abruptly. “What do you think you’re doing?!” I tried not to chatter my teeth. Instead I crossed my arms until I got an answer.
He looked at me questioningly. “What do you mean? This is where I’ve been sleeping.”
I froze. “You mean, you’ve been sleeping with me ever since you found me?!”
He yawned again. “Uh huh.”
“What?!” ‘That little rat! How dare he sleep with me! Does he even know…? No, of course he doesn’t.’
“You sure like to yell a lot, Vegeta.” He answered with a sleepy smile.
“Oh no! You’re sleeping on the floor!” I pointed at it for emphasis.
He looked at me then. “Why should I? I’ve always slept here. I live here, you know. You better be thankful that I’m letting you sleep in the bed. After all, you are a guest.” He answered casually.
“How dare you! You shouldn’t have been sleeping with me while I was unconscious! I didn’t know…!”
“You never complained before.” He interrupted me with a smile. No, it wasn’t a smile, it was more like…a smirk. That’s new.
“I…you…that’s because…” I tried to chew him out more, but he interrupted.
“C’mon, let’s go to sleep. You shouldn’t be arguing anyway. Look at you Vegeta, you’re freezing.” He sat up to wrap his arms around me, then he laid us down and pulled the covers over us. I wanted to protest big time, but, something about this new warmth kept my mouth shut. ‘Finally, I’m…warm.’ Before I knew it, my eyes closed shut and that same smell invaded my senses as a dreamless stupor took over me.

This chapter was so freaking hard! I had to make Goku’s words simple because, we all know how simple minded he is. Then, I had to come up with Vegeta’s reactions to his naïveté. Good thing the Prince is wounded, no? Otherwise, I think Goku would’ve been dead a long time ago. Also, I had Vegeta’s attitude be a little more bearable because, after all, he’s a kid too. But he’s still the Prince, man! So he’s going to be a little insufferable. Just like we like him. ^^ Oh and, I was going to have Goku do his way of how he tells if whoever he’s with is a boy or a girl, but…since he undressed Vegeta, I believe it would be pretty obvious. Man, that would’ve been freaking hilarious too. Sorry if Vegeta’s thoughts are random. Though, isn’t that what thoughts are? I just hope you all could keep up with it.
Also, in case anyone was wondering, I’m not going to have any lemon happen between these two…yet. It’ll be a while yet, I’m sorry to say. Another thing, and this is the highest fear that I have when writing my stories, I hope Vegeta isn’t out of character. Though, now that I really think about it, Vegeta’s going to eventually become out of character. Since he’s with Goku now and all…and at such a young age! Maybe they’ll even grow up together! Squee! Better read and find out! ^^
