Konekas Excellent Vacation, Part 3
He had been standing on the edge of the overhang for hours. Meditating, I assume, but this isnt exactly what I had in mind for entertainment. Interrupting him was fruitless. The first time he snarled at me, the second time, he just ignored me. Worst of all, I had no idea where we were and I couldnt even leave.
So, I found a patch of warm grass and lay there with my hands behind my head, watching the clouds drift by until I fell asleep. The next thing I felt was a hand on my shoulder shaking me.
The young handsome face of Trunks swam into my vision. He smiled as I struggled to sit up.
How long has he been standing there?
I glanced at my watch. About four hours.
Trunks hunkered down next to me, gazing at his father. He wont let me near him.
Not exactly the fatherly type, huh.
He snorted, tucking a stray lock of that silky hair behind his ear.
Say, Trunks. Are we anywhere near a city?
I think so. Why?
I was wondering...um...if you could give me lift. So I could get some art supplies.
I looked over at the still form of Vejita and thought what an opportunity I had in the palm of my hand. I had never seen anyone stand in one spot for so long without moving. And what a subject!
Sure, he said. But I better warn you. Cell may have... He stopped, looking at the ground. He destroyed a lot of...cities, he said quietly, glancing back up at me.
I swallowed. Okay.
Trunks slipped his arm around my waist and lifted me so that I could throw my arm around his neck. Ah, what a day this has been! Flying, flying, flying with gorgeous men!
We rose slowly and the ride he gave me was much gentler. Vejita never once glanced in our direction as we took off. Soon, the green and brown of nature began to give way to the steel and concrete of man. But as we descended, it was just as Trunks had feared. The city was deserted, empty cars and clothing telling the horrible story. I wanted to ask him how the clothes had come to be empty. If the rapture had occurred, I was sure I would have gone! I shivered e lae landed gently and he released me.
How...?
He shook his head and stuck his hands in his pockets. I didnt want to know anymore.
We can bring them back with the dragon balls, he said softly. Ill tell you about that later.
The two ofwalkwalked the streets looking for any sign of life. We didnt find any, but I found an art supply store. There were clothes everywhere there, too, and I stepped around them, irrationally not wanting to disturb them in case the owners returned. I picked out a portable folding easel, sketchbooks, paints, brushes, pencils, charcoal and a big carrycase to stow it all in, then added it all up on a piece of paper.
I was lucky my wallet was still in my pocket with all the flying around I had done though I suppose I couldve just written an IOU if they were coming back eventually so, I put the money in the cash register and joined Trunks outside.
How long do you think Vejita will stay like that?
Trunks shrugged. Who knows. I detected a little bitterness in the tone.
Maybe I should get a sleeping bag and some food, too.
The lavender hair swirled as he turned to stare at me with his mouth open.
He promised me entertainment, I said, lifting my chin. And, by God, hes going to give it to me.
Oooookay, he said, and we were off again. An hour later, with a huge hiking backpack strapped to my back and filled with all the goodies Id need, Trunks air-lifted me bac Vej Vejita, who still hadnt budged.
I unpacked and Trunks and I had something to eat, then I dragged out my sketchbook and pencils. My subject was still as a statue. Perfect!
If you dont mind, Trunks said, lying back in the grass, I think Ill stay.
Eek. He could share my sleeping bag if he wanted!
Tell me about the dragon balls, I said as I found a spot to sketch.
As my pencil flew across the paper drafting Vejitas (awesome, sexy) figure, Trunks told me the whole amazing story.
An alien. I wasnt surprised. I fleshed out Vejitas form, the muscles, his clenched fists. Flipping a page, I concentrated on his face, the heavy eyebrows drawn together in a scowl, thick spiked hair, angular features, big ears.
Tell me about Goku, I said, and Trunks told me how Goku had contracted a heart virus and how he shouldve died from it. But he was saved when a boy from the future brought him an antidote he, himself. Then he told me about his baby self and Bulma. Thats when my hand started to shake.
I carefully laid the pencil and sketchbook in the grass and sat with my hands laced together in my lap. I cleared my throat.
They married?
No.
I slid a glance toward him and saw his face turn pink.
All right, then! I said and picked up my pad and got back to work.
**********
At twilight, I hauled out my sleeping bag. Trunks was asleep in the grass. Vejita was still standing in the same spot. What an amazing man! I carefully packed my supplies away.
I want to see those when youre finished.
He spoke! At least I k hek he did. Maybe I was imagining things. Yeah, that was it. The solitude was getting to me. I crawled into my bag and was instantly asleep.
*******
A gentle breeze caresses my cheek, like a soft kiss. Warm, sensual, wisps of breath on my face, my neck, feathery whispers in my ear. Floating, floating on the wind, lips on mine, a rough and tender touch, embracing my body, soft kisses all over, rough kisses everywhere.
A tempest, thunder and lightning. Moon, stars, the universe in my hand, filling my vision, pulsing through me, rocketing to the sun, exploding, spiraling down down down.
Sighing. Whispering. Gasping. Crying. Sleeping sleeping sleeping...
