I sighed sleepily. ‘This is the second time I had to wake up to that smell again. Why does it annoy me so?’ I opened my eyes and sat up.
I looked to my left where the moron was still sleeping. I looked at him with a scrutinizing look. ‘He even sleeps abnormal.’ I looked at his sleeping position, then froze when I saw his leg over mine. “Ah!” I shoved his leg off and quickly got out of bed with a wince. I looked at him to see if he woke up. ‘He didn’t even budge. I guess that could come to my advantage.’ I smirked as I remembered my goal today.
‘Now, time to find something to wear.’ I looked around the tiny house. ‘It’s not even a house. It’s just one room.’ I stopped my wondering gaze and began my search for clothes. I opened a few drawers and found a light blue matching outfit. I decided they would do and quickly put them on. ‘Hm. They’re a little big on me.’ As I tried keeping the pants held up, I noticed a white sash hung around the waist. I tied it smoothly and looked around for some shoes. I found a black pair beside the door and slipped them on. They hugged around my feet, but the toe area felt a bit big. ‘They’ll have to do.’
As I stepped out of the tiny house, I noticed that it was dawn. ‘I wonder how long night is on this planet? Well, let’s go find out right now.’ I clumsily sprinted off into the mass of trees while I kept my pace a little slow. ‘That cursed bastard! My tail is so horribly mangled I can barely walk!’ Though, I’ve only just noticed this as I was running. I kept my eyes alert and focused on anything familiar as I darted around the trees. I was also alert for anything lying in my path that I could trip over. ‘Damn it! If only I could fly! But I’m still too weak.’ Again my thoughts went to the bastard who did this to me.

“Uh, Sire?” A soldier meekly stepped into his Lord’s presence.
The creature scrutinized the warrior before letting him acknowledge his presence. “What is it?” He asked coldly and uncaringly.
“Th-there’s a…problem with…one of the P-Pods’ s-signal, sir.” The soldier shivered as his Lord’s piercing gaze settled on him.
The soldier continued as his Lord glared at him. He never repeats himself. “The s-signal is gone, Sir. W-we can’t track it.” He finished as he stared at his Lord for an order.
“Who’s is it?” The creature answered coolly as he let his gaze wonder away from the terrified soldier, still not caring.
“I-I…believe it’s…P-Prince V-Vegeta’s, s-sir.” The man stuttered even more at the mention of the young Saiyan.
That got the creature’s attention. The soldier continued. “H-he signed on in a P-Pod th-three days ago and the s-signal v-vanished as soon as h-he left.”
Frieza sat up straight as this information sunk in. “Do you know where it’s headed?”
“Uh…” The soldier quickly searched through a stack of papers clenched in his hand. “W-we c-couldn’t get that k-kind of infor-information, as he sh-shut off the com-puter that w-would tell us wh-where he was headed.” The warrior lowered the paper and waited for his Lord’s orders. Or maybe a tantrum.
Frieza stood and walked closer to the warrior, anger evident in his eyes. “Then why are you standing here telling me about something you don’t have! Find out or I’ll blast you to ashes! That little monkey is not escaping me! He’s foolish if he thinks he can!”
The poor soldier nearly fell over at his Lord’s wrath. “Y-yes, Sir!” And scurried out of the room.
‘Oh, Vegeta. You’re more foolish than you make yourself out to be. No one escape’s from me! When I told your father that I wanted you for my own tool for power and a trade for the existence of your race, I fucking meant it! Except I extinguished them for my own benefit, of course. And once I find you, you better pray for your life for the punishment I have in mind for you!’ Frieza thought out the punishment as he paced impatiently.
After a day, Frieza lost all patience and headed for the Transport Room. “What the hell is taking so long!” He startled several soldiers as he loudly made his presence known.
“Sorry, Sir! I don’t think we’ll be finding out soon. The computer to the Pod is still off and we can only find out the coordinates once it turns back on.” A brave soldier stepped up to answer his Lord.
Frieza growled. “I want someone in here at all times in case it does come back on! And I want to be notified as soon as you get the information!” Frieza waited until his soldiers understood his demands and left the room in a rage.
‘Damn it! That signal could take days, months…years! I have the most worthless soldiers! There should’ve been someone here guarding the entrance at all times! I should exterminate whoever’s job that was!’ Frieza continued to fume as he searched for his next victim.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘Finally! I found it!’ After half the day had gone by and falling on my face and skidding across the ground a few times, I finally found the ship. When I approached it, I knew immediately that it wasn’t mine. It was overgrown with green vines and there was a brown substance that started covering the round object. ‘Hm. I’ve never seen our ships do that before. That metal is an alien substance, it’s suppose to be strong enough to go through anything.’ I brushed myself off for probably the fifth time today of anything green sticking to me as I quickly surveyed the damaged ship.
I looked inside at the greenery that had claimed the ship and didn’t pay it any mind as I immediately sat in it. I didn’t have time to study the ships’ condition, I had to get information. When the ship didn’t respond to my presence, I realized I’ll have to work it manually. I then searched for the button that would give me access to the control panel. I sighed in relief when I heard the ship respond and as the door lifted itself up to close, the fragile vines that covered it snapped as the door freed itself from their grasp. As soon as I had a view of the panel, I immediately began accessing it to see what information it had on it last time it was on.
A screen struggled to show itself as I ripped off whatever greenery was still on it. As the picture finally stopped breaking up enough for me to read it, a picture of a child showed up with his information below it. ‘Hm. Kakarot? That must be his real name. He’s…the Son of…’ I hit the control panel as it tried to give out on me. “Stop that, damn it!” Once I was sure it would stay on, I began to read where I left off. I growled, ‘damn this greenery! I don’t care how magical seems, it’s really starting to piss me off!’ I tried rubbing and ripping off whatever was there, but it was no use. Finally, I gave up on that part and decided that knowing his father wasn’t important. I did, however, look at what else I could read. ‘Let’s see, he came here…fifteen years ago and his mission was to destroy all life on this planet. So, he’s the same age as me. At least I know now he was sent here as a child. Hn. He must not be ranked very high if he got sent away. What is his rank?’ I looked below his name, which would say what the rank was and it was…third class. ‘Third class?! Great! I’m stuck with a low level! This can’t get any worse!’ I decided to test fate and read on. ‘Now, what is this said planet?’ I searched the screen. ‘Ah, this planet is Earth and it contains the species of…humans? They’re power is quite weak, but all they’re intelligence relies in technology. Hm. These humans can become a threat. Well, at least I know what inhabits this planet, but it doesn’t explain about Kakarot’s physical and mental stature. Maybe if I…’ I started typing in how I can find that type of information, when I saw something move outside the ship.
I stopped what I was doing and looked out the red, transparent window. ‘There it is again.’ I looked closer when I saw something move across my vision. Then, out of no where, the subject of my background search fell from the sky, with a red pole in his hand. “Ah!” I jumped back in surprise at the sudden entrance and groaned at the pain that shot up my spine as I hit the hardened, padded seat. “Idiot! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!” I managed to yell as I bundled up in pain.
He stood in front of the ship and looked like he was ready to fight someone. ‘What’s his deal? Was he about to fight the ship or something? Honestly, this kid’s been in this area too long. You’d think after a few years he’d wonder around the world a bit! Or maybe his ‘grandfather’ should’ve educated him more!’ I sat up to get ready to step out of the ship and yell at him in person.
I sighed. ‘Guess I’ll have to get the rest of the information some other time.’ I shut the computer off and opened the door. I watched the buffoon jump back as if waiting for an attack. I rolled my eyes. He gave up his fighting pose once he saw me. “Oh, hey Vegeta. What are you doing in there?”
I stepped out. “I was getting some information. How did you know where I was?” I crossed my arms as I waited for an answer.
He smiled then. I growled in return. “I was following your smell all over the place when it stopped here.” He became confused. “What is that? It looks like the same round thing I got you out of.” He pointed at the object of his curiosity.
I blushed slightly when he said he’d been following my scent, but quickly recovered. ‘Well, now is the time to tell him.’ I shifted my glance toward the ship, “Actually, this is the one you came out of.” I looked back at him for a reaction.
When I got nothing but a puzzled look I continued. “See, you weren’t born here. You were born on Planet Vegeta, which is our home world.” I waited again as that bit of information sunk in.
‘I better explain in smaller sentences so he can understand.’ “You mean, I’m from the place that was named after you?”
‘Hm. That smile isn’t back. But then again, would he smile after I tell him who he really is and where he came from?’ I nodded. “Yes. And on that planet were a race of Saiyans. That’s what we are.” I pointed to him and me.
He still gave me a confused stare. “Saiya- what now?”
I growled. “Saiyans! We are beings who’s soul purpose is fighting and our genes is right next to the apes! You do know what those are, don’t you?” I questioned angrily. ‘It’s not that hard to understand!’
He brightened up then. “You mean, monkeys?” His tail caught my eye again as it swayed back and forth, up and down, back and forth…
I tore away my gaze. “Uh…yeah, kinda. How do you explain your tail? I’m sure the humans on this planet don’t have those.” I pointed towards the constantly moving appendage.
He turned to look at it. “Really? No one else has them? I thought everyone did.” He watched his tail as it moved.
‘Maybe I’m finally getting somewhere with him.’ “No. Only Saiyans.” Then a thought occurred to me. “Have you ever looked at the moon when it was full?” ‘Surely he’s transformed before. With how careless he is, I wouldn’t be surprised.’
He turned his attention back to me. “Uh, I think so. How did you know?”
I smirked. “Because that’s how we transform. As long as we have our tails and the full moon, then we can transform into what Saiyans are known for.” I waited for him to ask into what.
“Transform into what?” He waited.
My smirk widened. “Why, into our Oozaru form of course. In more simpler terms, it’s a giant ape.”
“What?! You mean I can transform into a big monkey?!” He took a step forward as his curiosity and excitement grew.
I nodded. “Precisely.”
He looked down at my tail as if to confirm what he just heard. “Hey, I noticed that your tail hasn’t moved since I found you. Is it asleep?” He pointed at my lifeless appendage in curiosity.
I frowned. “No. It’s broken.” ‘Is it asleep? What a childish question!’ My cheeks warmed up a little at the innocence of the child. Then berated myself for my reaction.
“Oh…why didn’t you say so?” The smile came back. “I can fix it if you want!”
I looked at him like he was a crazy person again. “No! I can find a way to heal it myself! No one touches my tail! Do you hear me?!” ‘Idiot! No one touches the Prince of all Saiyans’ tail! No one!’ I growled at him as it looked like he would protest.
The smile disappeared again. He stood straight as he voiced his thoughts. “You don’t trust people very much, do you?” When he didn’t get an answer he smiled and continued, “don’t worry! You can trust me! Don’t you want to move your tail again? It must hurt if it’s broken.” His tail caught my eye again. It stopped though, so did his smiling. “How did it break?”
I ignored his question. “That’s why I said I’d heal it.” I looked away from him and at my surroundings. ‘I’m suddenly no longer enthused in telling him where he came from. Besides, I bet that simple mind of his can only take in so much information until it’s forgotten.’ I continued my wandering gaze and realized the sun was setting. “Well, we should get back. It looks like it’s getting dark.”
The child’s attention was then directed toward the sun. “Hey, yeah, it is!”
He giggled joyfully and started walking ahead. I decided to follow, considering that I had no idea where I was. I kept turning my gaze from the sun’s glare as I tried looking at other things. ‘Why are we walking? Wouldn’t it be easier if we ran back?’ My thoughts came to a stop as I actually looked at my surroundings and stood in awe. The trees and the greenery made shadows over the ground as the sun made it’s last attempts at shining over all it can before it set. Whatever the trees didn’t block, the sun filtered through. It was something…I’ve never seen before.
“Vegeta! What’s wrong?” My sight seeing ended as the third class noticed I was no longer following him.
I looked at him. “Tell me, is…the whole planet like this?” ‘He probably doesn’t know if he’s never left this area and I’m assuming he hasn’t.’
He looked at me happily. “No. There are all kinds of different places out there! There are groups of large buildings that shine stars at night! And there are places where it’s all sandy! And there’s the sea where Master Roshi lives on! I’ve seen smaller puddles than that one, but they’re all over the place!” He continued on excitedly as I tried translating what he was talking about.
I had to interrupt for, my simple translation wasn’t working correctly today. “Puddles?”
He paused. “Yeah! I can’t remember what they’re called, but there are ones that are huge, but not as big as the sea!” He demonstrated how wide by stretching his arms.
‘I think I know what he’s talking about.’ “You mean, lakes?”
“Yeah! Those! And I’ve seen them in the sandy places!” He continued happily.
“Lakes. You’ve seen lakes in…deserts?” I couldn’t think what else would be a sandy place.
“You mean they’re called desserts? Mmm. That sounds yummy!” He rubbed his stomach as he said that.
My shoulders sagged. “Not at all. They’re called deserts. With one -s-. They sound similar, but they mean differently.” I tried explaining the simpler way. ‘Why couldn’t I have seen it before? It’s obvious that he’s a third class! And it seems I was wrong before. He seems to have been all over. Then why is he so simple minded?’ I mentally slapped myself. ‘Right. The amnesia theory.’
“Oh. Well…do you want to watch the sun go to sleep? It’s really neat!” When I stared at him dumbly, at how quickly he changes the subject, and didn’t get a response, he continued. “Come on! It’s this way!” He ran in the direction that we were walking toward.
‘Great. More running. I just hope I don’t fall on my face again.’ As soon as I started running, sure enough, I think I tripped over a twig and fell forward. ‘Ugh. I hope he doesn’t notice.’ I quickly got up again and tried to keep up with my new naïve companion. I tried brushing more leaves and dirt off my front when I was face planted into the ground again. ‘Damn it.’ I growled in annoyance. ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s way ahead of me by now.’
“What’s wrong, Vegeta? If you don’t hurry, we’ll miss it.” I looked up to see that my wishful thinking wasn’t working very well today either. I picked myself up probably the seventh time today.
“Oh, shut up! I’m not used to running with a broken tail!” I growled back.
“Oh, well, how bout we go piggyback then?” He smiled at me, like I knew what he was talking about.
“What the hell’s that?” I looked at him unsurely.
“Here…” He turned around until his back faced me and crouched down. “Just hop on my back and I’ll carry you over there. It’ll be quicker!” He turned his head toward me to see if I’ll comply.
No way in hell. “I don’t think so.” I crossed my arms and walked past him toward wherever our destination was. ‘No one carries me! I’m not a child, damn it! My legs work just fine! Well…sort of…for now…’
The moron ran up next to me. “Come on! It’s not very far! It’d be quicker if we ran! Please? Come on.” He begged me until I had enough.
‘Why am I always giving him what he wants? Oh yeah, he’s an annoying third class clown.’ I growled and stopped walking. “Whatever.” I muttered without looking at him.
“Okay!” He sprinted around in my path and assumed the position again. “Hop on!” ‘How does he know what I mean when I say that? Usually people look at me stupidly whenever I say that.’
I looked at him skeptically. “How do I…‘hop on?’”
Now he gave me a look that said, how could you not know? “Just stand right behind me.”
I thought about it for a moment and decided it probably wouldn’t hurt. ‘I’m probably going to regret this.’ I did as he said and took a few steps closer. Then, he suddenly moved his arms underneath my legs and hoisted me up on his back. “What are you doing?!” I panicked.
Before I knew it, we were flying through the trees. “Don’t worry! This is what piggyback is!” He yelled out as he ran.
“Ah!” I quickly ducked my head as some leaves connected to a low branch almost knocked me backwards. I decided my head was much safer tucked behind his. I gripped onto his shoulders for dear life as we continued through the woods. Then, I felt the warmth…that warmth…from last night and…‘There it is again. That smell…I know it’s him, I just don’t know…what it is.’ I snuggled more into his back as I continued to sniff him. ‘Damn, it’s going to keep bothering me if I don’t put a name to it.’
“Here it is!” I jumped out of my thoughts and looked in front of us when I came to my senses.
“What’s here?” I asked as he gently set me down and I let go of his shoulders. Regrettably losing the warmth.
“The grassy hill! I like to come here and train sometimes, but I usually watch the sun go to sleep.” He ran up the top of the hill then as I blushed again at his innocence. ‘Why do I keep doing that?’ “Come on, Vegeta!” I tried controlling myself again as I looked up to see the clown already on top of the hill.
I joined him on top to see what all the fuss was about. “Oh…” I stopped as I took in the scenery before me. There was a field of flowers of different colors, as far as I could see. It was…
“Pretty, isn’t it?” I turned to my companion, who seemed to be smiling brightly as he too looked at the field. I nodded numbly. “Oooo! The sun! There it goes!” I looked to my left as Kakarot pointed at the bright star. I looked around at the darkening, blue sky to see if there were any other suns, but there was just the one. ‘One sun and one moon. It explains why it’s cooler here than on our home planet.’
We both sat down as we watched it slowly disappear below the horizon. Surprisingly, neither of us said a word as it completely went down. “Wasn’t that cool? I wonder where it goes?” The simple boy once again thought out loud as his innocence took another toll on me. ‘He has a naïve way of looking at things. So…childlike. Though, that makes sense. He is a child.’
I moved my gaze towards the boy. ‘Someday, he won’t be a child anymore. So, someone’s going to have to teach him to be an adult.’ I hunched over. ‘But why does that have to be me?!’ “So? You ready to go back now? I’m starving! Hey, Vegeta! Why don’t we go to the river on our way back? This time, I’ll get two fish! You seem to eat a lot too!”
‘Fish again? Does he ever eat anything else?’ “Actually, I wouldn’t mind having something new. What else is edible around here?” I couldn’t help but ask. I was not about to eat fish again!
He looked at me with a lost expression. “Edidle?”
I started blushing again at the mispronounced word. “Uh…edible. It means eatable. What else is there to eat?” I quickly calmed myself again, for the third time today and looked at him for an answer.
He smiled. “Oh, well…there’s other animals around here I guess you could eat! But if you’re looking for a quick meal, then you should try the fruit!” His hand went behind his head and started rubbing a spot.
I sighed. ‘Oh good. It looks like I get to go see what’s edible myself.’ “Do you want me to help you look for something?” ‘He read my mind.’
“Well…that would be easier.” I waited for him to lead the way, but he stayed stalk still. I growled. ‘Quit staring at me…’
“Can you run on your own now? Or do I have to carry you again?” He asked seriously.
“Depends. Are we in a hurry?” ‘I don’t think I’m ready for another one of those…rides, whatever he called it.’
He thought about it. “Well, I wouldn’t want you to get cold again and it gets pretty cold here at night.” ‘Now he tells me!’
I sighed and glanced at my tail for an instant. ‘Well, I do want to fix my tail as soon as possible, before I won’t be able to move it at all anymore. Will it actually be like that? Damn it. Figures, I should’ve listened to Father. Anatomy is important.’ Not that I don’t know anything about anatomy, I’m a killer. Not a healer.
“Oh, I know!” I jumped as he excitedly introduced what he was about to say. “We can take the Nimbus!”
‘The…the what?’ I stared wide eyed at the fool as he shouted the name again into the sky. We both stood there as if waiting for something and he continued to look at the sky. A moment later, a yellow cloud rushed down and appeared next to Kakarot. He hopped onto it and looked at me. “Jump on…! Oh, wait. I forgot. You have to be pure of heart to ride the Nimbus, but if you’re not, you can hang on to me and that way you won’t fall through. That’s what Krillin does.” He ended with a grin.
I stood there as I tried processing what the hell was going on. “You expect me to ride that?” I pointed at the yellow moving fluff.
“Yeah! It’s faster than running!” ‘Huh. I wonder where he got it?’
I looked skeptically at him again and took a few steps toward the floating cloud and studied it. I looked below it and front and back…wherever that was. “What’s wrong?”
I finally looked up at him. “What is it? Some sort of magical thing or what? It looks kind of like a toy. Is it real? If it’s a cloud, how are you able to ride on it? Wouldn’t you fall through yourself?” I quickly stopped my questioning as I felt a bit foolish for asking so many.
“It’s a real cloud! Why? What’s wrong with it?” He looked at me curiously.
I decided not to answer and tried to figure out how to get on. ‘Guess I should do what he said. Even though, there’s no way I’m pure of heart, but I’ll try riding on my own and see where it gets me.’ I bent my legs slightly and pounced on the cloud, but met ground. Again. ‘Ugh, this seems familiar.’ I heard a laugh above me and did everything in my power to keep from pounding the brat. “Looks like you’ll have to hang on to me!”
I sat up and looked at the laughing boy. ‘Of course. It almost seems like he likes me hanging on to him all the time.’ I stood up and brushed myself off, again. “Here, take my hand!” He outstretched his hand down toward me and I blushed lightly as I hesitantly took hold of it.
He hoisted me up so I sat behind him as I immediately grabbed his shoulders again. “Get closer or you’ll end up flying off. It goes really fast!” He turned his head to explain this to me.
“So you’ve mentioned.” I muttered. I hesitated again as I debated on what to do with my legs and scooted a bit closer.
“No, closer. Like this.” He quickly scooted back as he practically ended up on my lap.
‘I’m so glad he can’t see me.’ My whole face felt red as he got himself comfortable and I rested my legs on either side of him. I almost buried my face in his back, but that would’ve made it worse. ‘Apparently he’s never heard of personal space either.’ I lowered my head in case he looked back and saw me. ‘Grr! Go away!’ I demanded the blood in my face to disappear.
When it finally did, I looked up to see if we were going to move, but we were already moving. We were just above the trees as we whirred by them. “Hang on!” He warned as the cloud quickly dived into the trees and I regrettably pressed myself into Kakarot’s back. ‘I thought I was going to fly off for a minute there.’ I froze as I felt that familiar warmth again and stayed there until we made it back to the small house.
When Kakarot began to move to jump off, I quickly straightened my legs to prepare to fall. Sure enough, when he got off, I fell through and landed a little unsteadily on my feet. When the cloud left I looked at Kakarot and found that his arms were full of many types of fruits. ‘Of course. That’s what that sudden dive in the trees was for.’ He grinned when he noticed me looking at the armload he had. “I didn’t know which ones you wanted so…I got all!” With that, he went into the house and dumped the fruit on the little table that was in the small hut.
I followed him in to see what he got. They all seemed to catch my eye. There was one that was round and bright orange and I curiously picked it up and smelled it. I scrunched my nose from the strong smell, but it aroused my appetite somewhat. “What’s this?” I asked still staring at the odd fruit.
He turned back to me from whatever he was doing and came over to answer my question. “That’s an orange. Grandpa always took the orange stuff off, but I never knew why. I like the whole thing!” He answered happily.
I studied the fruit more. ‘What does he mean, orange stuff? The whole thing is orange! Maybe it’s surrounded by a skin that needs to be peeled off. I’ve never heard of any kind of fruit that you do that to. Except for the tanges on Planet Vegeta.’ “Oh, this is an apple!” I looked up from the orange to the new fruit in my companion’s hand. It was red and looked kind of similar to a heart. “They’re delicious! You eat it like it is except you don’t eat the whole thing. The middle has seeds in it and the stem on top.” He pointed to the parts of the fruit in which he was speaking of. “Oh, and…these are cherries!” He picked up a bundle of tiny red fruit and described how to eat it.
In the end, I ended up eating the fish again. I took a taste of the apple and decided it was edible, but the other fruits I’m going to have to dissect later. After eating our own fishes, we watched the stars. It seemed neither of us was ready for bed yet. However, the silence was broken, “Hey Vegeta, I’m going back to Master Roshi’s soon. You wanna come with me? I need to finish my training for the tournament.” He looked at me then. “Hey! Why don’t you train with me? We could enter the tournament together!” He laughed in excitement.
‘He needs to learn to breathe when he speaks. Hm. A tournament sounds intriguing. Wait a minute…he’s entering the tournament? What challenge would a low class be? Then again, I don’t know how strong the humans are. They must be terribly weak if a third class was sent here.’ I nodded. “That sounds interesting. I might as well go wherever you go. After all, I don’t know anything about this planet.”
He was so ecstatic, he was practically bouncing in place. “Yay! It’ll be great! We can leave tomorrow!”
I stared at him as his strong tail was holding him up in mid air as he bounced on it. ‘Oh, that’s right. I need to find a way to fix my tail. Now let’s see…should I…bandage it? Damn it! I feel so helpless! I don’t think bandages will do anything. Splint…is it a splint I need?’ I hunched over. ‘Maybe I should just let it heal on it’s own.’ I tried moving it to see how it was doing and quickly bit my tongue from making any sounds. ‘Nope. Still shattered. Actually, it feels worse.’ Panic rose in me. ‘Should I just…ask him?’ I quickly erased the thought as my pride took a blow for even thinking such a thing. ‘Okay, which do you want? Do you want to lose your tail or ask for help?’ I didn’t like either of these options. I decided to go for another option.
“Uh…Kakarot?” He stopped once I called him the foreign name. ‘Oh, I forgot. He doesn’t know his real name yet. Well, we’ll get to that later.’ “Have you ever broken a bone before?” I stared at the ground in humiliation and waited for an answer.
He seemed to have forgotten the name when he answered my question. “No, but Grandpa taught me how in case I ever needed to. Why? Are you going to let me fix your tail now?” He asked with hope.
I gasped and looked up at him then as he saw through my curiosity. “N-no! I was just wondering if…er, I mean, how you…” ‘Damn! I lost my train of thought!’ I put my hand over my eyes as I thought. ‘No, he’ll see through that too!’ I growled at how frustrating this was.
“Are you sure?” He leaned forward, disappointment evident in his eyes.
I sighed in frustration. “I don’t know.” I realized it was hopeless.
He leaned back with a smile. “Want me to look at it?”
I clenched my fists over my legs and nodded slightly and growled at my weakness. He didn’t say anything as he got up to walk behind me. I tensed again as déjà vu occurred. ‘At least he’s not naked.’ “Don’t worry, I’ll be really gentle.” He tried to assure me as he bent down to barely touch my broken tail.
I winced as pain once again shot up my back. “Sorry. Does it hurt here too?”
He pondered as another sharp pain went up my spine. “Yes! Now be careful! Be grateful I’m even letting you touch it!” I turned my head slightly to growl at him.
“But I’m barely touching it, Vegeta!” He defended himself as he once again poked and prodded at my tail.
I bit my tongue as a whimper escaped me. ‘Damn it! I should’ve healed myself before I escaped from Frieza’s ship! That way, we could’ve avoided this!’ My breathing started coming in quicker, as I realized I was holding in my breath. “Hmm. The whole thing seems to be broken.” ‘You think?! Even if one bone were broken, the whole thing might as well be broken! I can’t believe I’m letting him look at my tail!’ He paused as he thought. “I’ll be right back!”
I turned around to see him run into the house. He seemed to be rummaging as he ran back and forth. I heard a loud ‘clink,’ like a piece of metal that collided with an object. Then he ran back out and bent down behind me again. I looked at what he brought and there were two thin, metal rods, the length of my tail, sitting next to each other by my tail. ‘Now what?’ He also pulled out a roll of bandages and set it on the other side of my tail. “Okay, this might hurt…” ‘With you doing this, I believe it will.’
He set each of the two rods on either side of my tail, then took the bandage roll and lifted my tail up with the two rods to start wrapping it. “Ah!” I clutched at the grass below as I waited for the pain to stop. After what seemed like hours later, the pain seemed to subside. I looked behind me to see what had become of my tail and blinked at the bulged mess it had become. ‘I should just cut the damn thing off!’ But, of course, I won’t do it.
“There we go! I guess that’ll have to do until I get you a senzu bean.” He exclaimed proudly.
I paused in my horror to look up at him in puzzlement. “Senzu bean?”
“Yeah! It’s this little green bean that Korin has! It’ll heal you right up!” He smiled brightly. “Also, it can keep you full for ten days!” He held up both of his hands, palms facing me. I gave him an exasperated look. ‘Good, he can count.’
“Ah.” I acknowledged this new information. ‘Why doesn’t he have any on him now?’
“Uh oh. Vegeta?” The kid made it sound like he broke something.
“What? What is it?” ‘There better not be anything going on with my tail!’
“You’re bleeding again.” I turned around to see what he meant and he was pointing at my back. ‘Oh, great.’
“Here, I’ll…” I interrupted him before he finished.
“Oh no! I think you’ve done enough! I’ll live!” I moved to get up, but fell down again. It felt like he twisted my tail off. I can hardly feel it anymore.
“Come on, Vegeta. You can’t wrap your back on your own. It won’t take long.” He bent down again to retrieve the bandage roll.
I sighed and realized he was right. ‘Damn…you…Frieza!’ I tensed again when my shirt was lifted. “Can you take off your shirt? It would be easier if you did.”
I growled and did what he asked. I groaned as I lifted the material over my head and threw it to the ground in front of me. Sure enough, the shirt looked soaked through in my blood. “Oh, did you want to wash off before I do this?” He leaned over my shoulder to ask.
I sighed in exhaustion. “No. Just wrap it.” I stared at the shirt as he bandaged my wounds.
“Okay, I’m done.” I heard his, for once, not so excited voice after a few minutes. ‘I actually haven’t seen him smile in a while. Wonder why?’
I slowly stood up, careful not to fall down again, and walked into the house. I took off the borrowed shoes and carefully crawled onto the bed and laid down. I saw Kakarot stop in the doorway as he watched me. “What?” I asked nonchalantly.
“You could’ve said, ‘thank you.’” He said in a sour tone.
I sighed and ignored him. I closed my eyes and waited for sleep to claim me.
I ignored the movement on the bed as I waited for Kakarot to settle himself. After a while, when I was almost asleep, I heard him speak. “Hey, Vegeta? What did you call me earlier?”
I turned my head towards him to answer. “Kakarot. That is your real name. It’s your Saiyan name.” I slowly blinked my eyes to stay awake and waited for an answer.
After a moment he answered, “Kakarot?” He put his arms behind his head. “It sounds kinda weird.”
I chuckled lightly. “It probably does for now, but get used to it. ‘Cause that’s what I’m calling you from now on. You should except it. It’s who you are.”
He sighed. “Well, if you say so…”
After a while of silence, I moved into another position as my arms started falling asleep. I had my back to him and he once again, gently pressed himself against my back. Instead of flinching or wincing in return, I accepted the heat as it continued to warm the rest of my body. I didn’t have the energy to reject. Though, that’s what I told myself. As my eyes started getting heavy again, the smell came back. ‘What the hell is it? Maybe it’s a similar smell to something on this planet. Yeah, I think that’s it. That would explain why Kakarot couldn’t tell what I smelled like.’ (A/N: I didn’t know how else to explain this. Vegeta doesn’t know all the smells on Earth, that’s why he can’t tell what Goku smells like. And he thought the same reason why Goku couldn’t tell what he smelled like ‘cause he doesn’t know all the smells on Planet Vegeta. I think you’re all smart enough to link it from there). I blushed slightly at the memory, but went back to my previous curiosity as the smell once again invaded my senses. ‘Damn it. There must be a name for it. Hm. I think I’ll call it…Kakarot.’ My mind seemed satisfied with that name as it finally shut itself off so sleep could claim me.
I don’t know if Goku already knew that Senzu’s could heal or not when he first encountered them, but…in this story…he does. I hope it’s an entertaining read so far and I hope I haven’t screwed anything up yet.
Also, I apologize if Goku is a little more naïve than he actually is. Since he learned ‘so much’ on his adventures. But I can’t remember the whole series, just the recent first season that I got. ^^ And somewhat more. But I just wanted to add more innocence to his appearance for Vegeta. How else are they going to get together? :)
