A/N: I’m ecstatic that someone is in love with this story. :) Even I think it’s better than my other one so far, but everyone’s got different tastes.
…I see you out there. Yeah you. The one that reads the chapter and hovers over the review button, but then decides not to click it. -_- Yeah, I know who you are…and I thank you for the hits. :)
“It’s been said that when the moon was created, it learned how to control the beings on this earth. Then, it became our teacher as, those of us who chose, learned it’s energy and light. During that time, the moon gave us a new shape. That’s when our kind began. We learned how to transform into that shape and back into human form. Overtime, we learned how to live without the moon’s energy and now only use it as a guide. We now master the forms and know how to live with both beings, with or without the moon’s light. However, now we are at war with our fellow humans. The form from which we originally started from. The non-shape shifters turned against us because they couldn’t accept us for what we were. Even though we can walk around in their form, they knew of our second form and feared us. The longer they feared us, the more they felt the need to destroy us. So now, we must fight for what the moon passed down to us. We must protect what few shape shifters are left so that we may survive.” King Bardock finished his traditional bedtime story as Kakarot listened intently.
“Papa, why do the humans fear us?” The young prince asked in curiosity. Even though he’s been told the story for as long as he could remember, he still had questions every time his father told it.
Bardock stroked his cub’s hair. “Because son, they don’t understand us and it’s that fear that drives them to not care to understand us.” Kakarot’s thoughtful gaze slowly moved from his father to stare at the wall in thought. However, he looked at him again in confusion. The king of beasts just smiled. “You’ll understand when you’re older. Now, go to sleep.” He tucked his son in and kissed him on the forehead, then went to leave the room.
“Papa?” Bardock stopped and turned toward his cub. “Is there any way to unlearn what the moon taught us?”
The king of beasts was stumped. His son asked the oddest questions the more he told that story. “Not that I know of, son. Once born with the gift, there’s no giving it back. There’s only acceptance. If only it were just as easy for the humans, then there wouldn’t be a war.”
Kakarot thought about the answer for a moment before answering. “Oh, okay.”
Bardock smiled, glad that he eased his son’s curious mind. “Good night, son. Sleep well.”
“You too.” Came the quiet reply and the cub snuggled into his warm bed and closed his eyes.
The king of beasts quietly closed the door and was about to head to the dining hall, where his hungry comrades were, but was interrupted when a voice stopped him. “When are you going to tell him the truth? That we are cursed beings and that we are the ones that started the war by eating the lives of humans?” Bardock turned towards the voice behind him as his eldest came from the shadows.
“Ah, Raditz. I figured you would’ve left to go hunt food for us by now.” He tried dodging the subject, but it didn’t seem to work.
“I will once you’ve given me an answer.” The eldest prince had his arms crossed as he waited.
Bardock sighed. “Because he’s too young to know the truth. If he did, I just know it’ll crush him. He’ll probably deny his own heritage and will question if everything I told him was a lie.”
“It’s because they are lies. If you want him to be the strongest of our kind and a true leader, then he can’t stay in the dark. However, I know how you feel. We both want him to stay a cub forever, but the reality is, he won’t. He’s going to grow up someday and realize that the people closest to him were feeding him lies-”
“You don’t think I know that!” Bardock shouted as he advanced towards his son. “Not a day goes by when I think about that…and not a day goes by when I regret taking you with me to kill the king and his son! I just knew you would screw up something like that! Such a perfect plan was meant to be massacred by you!”
Raditz growled. “Me?! You were the one that was supposed to distract the king! I wanted the runt, but you just had to let him have at me, didn’t you?! Honestly, father, I wouldn’t be surprised if you took me with you just to get me killed!”
Bardock growled back. “I wish he had killed you! Then, we wouldn’t have a half-breed cub slaughtering every one of our kind he comes across and then maybe your brother wouldn’t be in the dark! So if we have to point fingers, they’d be pointing at you!”
Raditz took a step forward. “How can you put all that on my shoulders! You were there too!”
The creak of a door drew the two arguing royals’ attention. Kakarot poked his head through the crack of the door with tired eyes. “Is everything okay?”
Both sighed as Raditz turned and left while his father tried sending his cub back to bed. “Yes, son, everything’s fine. Now, go back to sleep.” Kakarot watched his older brother leave in his fury, but decided not to ask questions and did as his father said.

Vegeta stared out his window at the slowly descending half moon. A shy knocking at his door brought his attention away from it for a moment, but grunted in reply as the door opened, revealing the servant Edward. “Your highness, I have prepared a new knife and garments for you.” The servant said in a gentle tone, knowing that the prince hated hunting when the moon was out, but wasn’t quite sure why. The prince turned towards his loyal servant and looked to the items he mentioned. “I made some thicker and longer gloves. Hopefully, they’ll protect you better when handling silver; and a blade similar to the knife you had before.” Edward presented the items to his prince, but the royal seemed more interested in the knife than the gloves.
Vegeta glanced at the gloves once, then quickly grabbed the knife and tested it out by doing a few cuts in the air. Seemingly satisfied with the knife, he grabbed the gloves and swiftly put them on, then grabbed his cloak and he was off. “I’ll return around midnight.” He said simply as he passed his servant, however, taking in the way the man smelled. The prince cautiously turned towards the man again and also noted how…tender the man was. Not in personality no, by appearance. For some reason, the man looked frail and…soft. His breath sped up when he heard the man’s pulse from just a few feet away. Vegeta subconsciously licked his teeth, but shook his head once he realized where his thoughts were going. “Perhaps later. I might…hunt.” He looked to the side as if in shame for feeling the craved hunger inside him.
Edward immediately felt uncomfortable when the the prince admitted he might have to hunt food for himself and took a step back. “Oh, of course. Take care, your majesty.” He bowed and stayed in that position, hoping he was distracting the prince’s hunger and waited for him to leave.
The royal gulped, then nodded towards the servant’s words and quickly made haste towards the exit.

Raditz made a few steps towards the entrance, then a few steps away. He repeated the process a few more times. In fact, he’s been the repeating the process for about ten minutes now. To anyone watching, it may seem like he’s pacing. When in fact, the eldest couldn’t decide whether or not to wake his little brother. Even though he promised the younger he’d take him hunting tonight, he also didn’t want the cub to get hurt. “Well? Are you going to do that all night or are we going hunting?” Raditz stopped his confused walking and looked for whoever spoke. He found the source stepping out from behind a tree a few feet away and sighed.
“Kakarot. How long have you been awake?” Raditz went towards his brother, finally knowing which way to go.
“I never went to sleep. Now, let’s go before the moon sets.” Kakarot said in anticipation as he transformed into his four-legged cub form and waited for his brother to transform as well.
Raditz shook his head as he, once again, admired his younger brother’s appearance. The cub’s black and brown fur was thick and soft and waved in the wind like tall grass. His tail was bushy and longer than a full grown werewolf’s. His eyes were like midnight and the moon’s light reflecting off of them made it seem like stars were actually in that deep midnight. Kakarot’s ears perked up and his head cocked to the side in curiosity as he looked at his brother. Raditz smiled and nodded, ready for the hunt, but not before smirking at the cub’s paws. They looked just like a regular wolf’s paws, except bigger. In fact, his younger brother looked like a normal wolf altogether, except a bit bigger. To an average human, his back would probably reach one’s head.
The cub snorted at his brother in impatience. Raditz blinked away from his brother’s form to look him in the eyes. “Stay right beside me. Don’t stray away from me or you’ll get lost. Even though you’ve sneaked out many times before, I don’t know how well you know the area, but keep close. When I give the signal to go back home, you do it, alright?” All he got was an impatient huff and excited paws beating the ground. Without another word, Raditz transformed in his two-legged adult form, clothes and skin coming off in the process. Both brothers trotted off into the night under the moon’s pale glow.

Prince Vegeta strutted into the woods and pulled the hood of the cloak over his face more, as if to block out the moon’s presence, but to no avail. He clenched his teeth, trying to rid the urge to tear something apart. This was nothing. The urge would soon get stronger as the days progressed, then he wouldn’t be able to control himself when the full moon rises. For some reason, the craving also felt stronger when under the moon’s glow, no matter what phase it’s in. He growled at the thought; scaring off the few small critters around him.
However, one critter sat frozen not more than a foot from him. A rabbit. It’s soft brown fur made it tempting to pet, but the warm, soft skin underneath made it tempting to eat. The rabbit stood stock still, watching the predator from the corner of its doll eye. Its little nose twitched as its breathing stayed at a fast pace. Vegeta watched the critter with intensity. His own breathing speeding up as he deciphered whether or not to eat the poor thing. He might as well or else he’ll eat ‘someone’ later. The prince tensed, as if ready to spring while the rabbit took a quick hop towards the bushes. Vegeta then pounced forward and caught the rabbit with his hands. The critter squealed and squirmed in his grasp and he quickly stopped the movement by biting into its neck, successfully breaking it. He practically moaned as his aching long canines tore into the soft, warm fur and skin. The blood was sickening and yet satisfying as he tore into the meat and ripped off a chunk. Ignoring the fur tickling his throat, he swallowed and took another bite.
Oh, how he hated this. At first, he ignored his cravings to the point where he became crazed. Then, the doctors gave him some deer meat and he ate it with much animosity. Vegeta was told not to hold back his cravings and to go out and sate them. He did what he was told and still feels shame to this very day. He felt like each day that passed by, he was becoming more like ‘them.’ It could be because he now knows what to expect from these ‘side-effects’ and has no problem dealing with them. After sating his craving somewhat, he dropped the skeleton of the critter and some meat and fur that he refused to eat and wiped his mouth on his long brown gloves. The prince looked around for any signs of the enemy, but found none and trudged on.

Both wolves stopped in a thicket of trees. The two-legged one sniffed out its prey, while the four-legged one watched and did the same. A moment later, the taller found a scent of deer and elk not far off and sprinted off towards that direction. The other caught the scent afterwards and followed. When they made it to their destination, the two wolves hid behind a group of trees and bushes and studied their prey. It was a family of deer, the elk wasn’t much farther from them. They looked really peaceful as they nibbled at the blades of green, unaware of the dangers around them. For a moment, the cub pitied their fate, but knew it was for a good cause.
Raditz signaled for his brother to make a move on the other side of them while he went around in the opposite direction. Kakarot panicked at the idea of working on his own and was unsure what to do, but went ahead and did what his brother wanted. He crept around the bushes, keeping an eye on the prey, but at the same time, kept an eye out for his brother, who he couldn’t spot. Kakarot began to panic again, thinking that he was all alone and his brother was making him do all the work, but then he noticed some movement through a gap of trees and felt relieved. However, he wasn’t the only one to see his brother as one of the deer closest to him lifted its head to look near his direction. Kakarot froze, waiting for the deer to make a move, but it bent down and continued eating.
As the cub crept closer, he spotted his target. The leader of the group. He was the closest one to it and had a good vantage point to attack, but as he crept closer, he realized that he would actually be killing something…alive. His heart sped faster in fear. Could he do it? Could he actually kill something? The cub took a step back in uncertainty. No. No, he couldn’t do it, but he has to. His brother is counting on him to attack with him and he’ll have to do this someday anyway. Maybe his brother was right. Perhaps he was too young to hunt. Yes. He was most certainly not ready, now that he was there, but now he didn’t know how to get out of the situation.
There was a moment of silence. The deer stopped grazing and all looked up as if to see their enemy coming. It was like the calm before a storm. No thoughts went through the cub’s head as he held his breath and didn’t move. Then, Raditz came out of nowhere and pounced into the herd. He landed on two of them, successfully crushing them or knocking them unconscious and grabbed two of them by their hind legs and swung them into a tree trunk, probably breaking many bones. Three of them ran off towards Kakarot, but then dashed away once they noticed he was there. The cub felt fearful for the peaceful creatures that were grazing not moments ago. That were alive…that were now food. He hung his head in shame; knowing now that the three that escaped were meant for him.
Kakarot trudged out to meet his brother with his head hung low, expecting to get punished, but was actually surprised to see that his brother wasn’t upset. After all, it was his first time and Raditz didn’t expect his baby brother to perfect this in one night. He was actually quite surprised to get four deer, instead of two. Raditz picked up all four of them and slung them over his broad shoulders and on his back. He’d have to hunch or run on all fours to get back with his food. However, it still wasn’t enough to feed their whole army of werewolves. In fact, this was probably enough for two. He’ll have to be out all night in order to get a decent meal for everyone, that’s why they all turned to eating humans because it’s easier and more satisfying, but since his little brother was with him, it wouldn’t be right. After all, he couldn’t even kill a deer, let alone a human.
Raditz sniffed out his next prey and wondered briefly if the elk nearby were still there. He checked…they weren’t. The spooked deer probably tipped them off. Either way, Raditz will get nowhere if his brother sticks around. Deciding not to burden his little brother with the food he caught, he signaled his brother to go for home. At first, Kakarot didn’t want to leave his brother behind, but then again, he’s done this many times. He himself however, was afraid to get in the way. At least he was finally a part of a hunt and got the gist of what he was supposed to do. Perhaps his brother will fill him in more on the details later. Getting the point not to burden his brother any longer, he did what he was told and headed for home.

Kakarot sniffed around for the scent he and his brother trailed in the woods before they hunted. He stopped to look around him and recognized the area. He knew how to get back from there. However, a sound and a scent caught his attention and he crept towards it. The cub sniffed the air for a moment. It smelled familiar. He followed his nose to another trail and it lead him to a little area where it reeked of blood. He looked toward a few bushes and saw the remains of a critter scattered on the ground. Kakarot scrunched his nose at the way it was eaten and continued to follow the scent.
The cub stopped once he realized what he might be following. What kind of creature eats a critter like that? Surely not a human. They usually skin the fur and cook the meat. Could it be another werewolf? No, they eat everything on the animal. What could it be? Curiosity getting the best of him, Kakarot continued following the trail. A while later, the cub heard a heart beating not too far off and quickly, but quietly went to investigate. He looked through a group of trees and noticed that he was at a stream. He knew this stream. It was quite a ways from home, but at least he wasn’t lost. The water was ankle deep and contained large, rounded pebbles.
He was about to move towards the stream for a drink, when he spotted something on the edge only a few feet away. It crouched over the edge of the stream and sloshed in the water; probably drinking. Wanting a closer look, Kakarot moved in the trees behind the creature and let his gaze focus on it. The creature stood and swept an arm over its face while shaking out it’s fur. Wait a minute. It was hair, human hair. What was a human doing out in the woods in the middle of the night? Once the human half turned his head, Kakarot immediately recognized him and growled.
Vegeta froze when he heard a noise behind him. He didn’t get a chance to turn around as whatever was behind him pounced.

Oop! Cliff hanger! Sorry! >< …but not really. Forgive me if I get the animals wrong. I don’t know when they eat or sleep and I didn’t want to bother checking such a small thing. So, those of you who are rednecks or into hunting…sorry for ruining your vibe. >.> Then again, if a redneck was reading this, I’d be surprised. Anyway, I hope no one’s confuzzled on what the cubs and adult werewolves look like. O.o I tried to put in the setting while blending in the background story. It’s not as easy as it sounds…or maybe it is. Depending on how good one is about writing. I suppose.
