Chapter Four
Gohan stared dully at the screen, tears still on his cheeks. Suddenly a massive flare of ki erupted next to the house, before rapidly disappearing as the person flew away. Gohan’s mouth dropped open.
‘Mirai?!’ Gohan jerked out of his stupor and quickly slid the sleeping Trunks off his shoulder, laying him carefully down on the couch before running to the front door.
‘Mirai was here?!’ He stared in shock at the burning trail still faintly visible in the sky, his koi’s ki emanating from it.
‘Did he see…? Why was he here?! Oh Gods…Did he want to see…me?’ Thoughts tumbled through Gohan’s mind, and he made a split decision. Taking a deep breath he leapt into the sky, quickly finding the trail and following it.
‘Koi…come back…talk to me…please…Gods I just want to see your face…’
He flared his ki, speeding up as the remainder of his tears dissipated on his cheeks.
Mirai’s tears, however, flowed freely, disappearing from his eyes instantly as the wind whipped at his face. In his immense grief and rage he didn’t notice till half way back to his house that he was being followed.
‘Gohan…oh shit…’ Mirai closed his eyes in sheer shock, incredibly embarrassed that he’d been caught sticking his nose into his koi’s, obviously intimate, business. It was fine when he could go home and stew about it on his own. It wasn’t so fine when Gohan knew he’d been looking.
‘He’ll be so mad…’
Mirai stopped in the air, keeping his back to the approaching ki. He sighed heavily and wiped at his eyes quickly with the palm of his hand.
‘It’s not like I’ve ruined any chances…it’s not like we were getting back together or anything...\'
Gohan slowed to a stop several meters away from Mirai. Seeing his koi’s hunched shoulders and clenched fists at his sides, he knew Mirai was expecting him to be angry. His eyes quickly traveled over the other demi’s slender frame.
‘He’s lost weight…’ Gohan noted, aware of the same occurring in him. Since Mirai had left, or rather since he had thrown him out, Gohan had felt listless, unable to summon, even marginal, interest in anything. His appetite had suffered as he spent each night picking at the meals Goten and Trunks had meticulously laid out for all of them. Both younger demis had commented and tried to encourage him to eat more, but he always pushed the plates away, or threw out the food once they had left the room. He felt tears prick at his eyes as he thought of Mirai enduring the same unhappiness with no-one to support him.
He opened his mouth to speak, seeing Mirai’s shoulders flinch visibly at the first words.
“Why were you at my house, Mirai?” Unintentionally, his voice came out sounding cold and threatened to waver as he spoke the future demi’s name aloud for the first time in weeks.
Mirai swallowed and took a deep breath, slowly turning to face his koi. His mouth dropped open at Gohan’s appearance, mirroring his own on so many factors. The obvious loss of weight, his hair lackluster when it used to shine in the sun, the puffy eyes from crying, surrounded by slight dark circles from loss of sleep. Gohan looked terrible, but at the same time, Mirai’s heart thudded against his ribs as he beheld the Son’s painful beauty. He ached to reach out and run his hand down the other’s face, kiss those swollen lips, the same ones that used to, and still did, drive him mad with desire. He unconsciously leaned forward, his lips parting as his breath began to come faster.
“Gohan…” His voice cracked, something like raw need rushed through him and he caught himself on the edge of darting forward to press his lips against the delectable mouth in front of him. He shook his head imperceptibly, his mind conjuring up images of the last thing he’d seen Gohan doing. His koibito wasn’t his anymore. He stared into Gohan’s eyes, the other demi didn’t look angry but Gohan was skilled at hiding his emotions when he needed to. Nothing like his father…
‘Wait, don’t think about Goku at a time like this…he’s what got you into this mess in the first place…’
Mirai swallowed again, looking away.
‘Say it now…quickly…before he makes you leave…again…’
“Gohan…” He felt tears beginning to well in his eyes as he voiced his emotions for the first time since their break-up.
“It hurts so much to want you the way I do…” He paused. “..and then look at you and realize how much you don’t care.”
He swallowed.
“I still love you…”
As Mirai quickly glanced up at Gohan’s face to gauge his reaction, the Son’s brows lowered slightly and he made no move to speak. Mirai closed his eyes briefly as the realization that Gohan has moved on crashed over him.
Mirai lowered his head, wetness spilling down his cheeks. He turned, using his saiyan speed, and disappeared from sight, a thick golden trail pinpointing his retreat.
Gohan hovered in shock, his mouth open slightly as Mirai’s words reverberated in his head, the hurt in the future demi’s voice wounding him more than he could have imagined.
‘I love you…and you don’t care…don’t care…don’t care’
Gohan closed his eyes and clenched his fists, his whole body shaking as he realised just how badly he’d messed up.
‘Why did he leave? Doesn’t he know I love him?’ Gohan let out a shaky breath and opened teary eyes. Suddenly his head whipped up and his gaze locked onto Mirai’s rapidly disappearing ki trail, determination settling on his face.
“Mirai…” He whispered.
***************
Gohan: Where’d ya go, koi?!
Mirai: *points* Check out my leaving action…
Gohan: *smirks* I’m going to find you…and DO stuff to you…
Mirai: *eeps and flies faster*
I know it’s a bit short but…it seemed like a good place to leave it! *evil smirk*
