Okay, so it's been like four YEARS since I posted on this story, but I hope from now on I will be able to regularly, assuming people still want to read it, and like it. It's a little different from my previous writing styles, but given that it's been SOOOO long I doubt there will be too many complaints. I do appologize for how long it's been. I hope that new readers enjoy this in the coming days. If there is anything you would like me to add, any ideas at all, feel free to tell me. I'm always open to suggestions. I beg that you don't flame me. If you find my story that bad, just don't read it anymore. ^_^ Anyway, I think I have rambled enough. Please Enjoy!!! And I beg for you to R&R I haven't written in so many years I could really use knowing if I've gotten better or not.
Chapter Four: You'll get used to it.
Slowly, Duo stood up, taking a few steps back from her. His eyes were still wide as he stared at her, not sure what to say.
"Duo.. I- I'm sorry.. I didn't mean to do that.." She lowered her eyes as she hugged her animals closer to her, looking as though she were about to cry. "I don't have much from my parents, because they died when I was so young. But they gave me these just before the trip that killed them. I'm very careful with them, and I really don't like anyone touching them." She looked at him from under long lashes, her cheeks a deep red from embarrassment.
Duo cracked a smile as he moved at her with a speed unmatched to anything she had seen before, wrapping his arms about her, lifting her up in a hug. "That was awesome! I've never had someone outside of us that has ever been able to knock me to the floor!" He set her back down as he let her go, his famous grin in place. He lowered his head a little, looking much like a small child. "I'm sorry about touching your stuffed animals. I didn't know they were so special to you. I promise I won't do it again. Do you forgive me?"
Erin breathed in deeply, letting it back out in a whooshing sound as she nodded at him. "Yeah. I forgive you. I over-reacted a little bit." She lifted her face. Wiping her eyes with the back of her hand as she looked at the others, her face flushing once more.
Quatre smiled at her reassuringly, Wufei nodded once in approval, while Trowa and Heero merely watched her with their normal expressions. She smiled back at Quatre, a small laugh escaping her. "I guess this means I officially fit in as part of the group." She smiled wider as she watched the various nods from them all.
Erin moved a small hand to cover her mouth as a yawn escaped from her, a small squeak following shortly. She blushed at the sound that she made, burying her face in the bear.
"Aw!" She heard Duo exclaim. "That's so cute! Do you do that every time you yawn?"
She giggled lightly. "Almost always. I don't really like it, but it hurts to try and stifle it."
Quatre walked from the bedside toward her. He looked at his watch as he got to Duo's side. "It is getting pretty late, and we do have orientation classes in the morning. Maybe It would be good for all of us to go to bed. It's been a long day."
"You said it Quat. Long, but very cool and interesting. We'll see you in the morning Erin. You want us to come get you for breakfast? We can go eat out or something." Duo gave her a pleading look as he said this.
She laughed lightly, nodding her head. "Yeah. We can go out for breakfast."
Duo hopped up and down excitedly. "Yay! We'll come get you around 6:30, is that good?"
"That's fine, Duo. I'll see you guys in the morning. And thank you. I thought I would hate it here, and that I would be absolutely miserable, but I can see that with you guys, I'm in good hands. I'm glad I started to play that card game on the plane." She closed her eyes as she smiled at them. She turned to put the bear and bunny back in the drawer, before she gave both Duo and Quatre a light hug. "See you in the morning."
"See you!" Duo piped as he hugged her back and started for the door.
"Goodnight Erin, sleep well. See you in the morning." Quatre said as he accepted her hug and then too walked to the door. He waved his hands at the others, shooing them through the doorway before beginning to shut the door. "If you need anything, you can come to anyone of us. The others will probably point you to Duo or myself. They're not very talkative, and probably wouldn't know what to do anyway. Mine and Duo's doors will always be open to you." He smiled softly as he shut the door behind him, leaving her in her now quiet room.
Erin wasted no time getting herself cleaned up and ready for bed. She lay her head on the soft pillow and got comfortable. Looking over at her clock, the numbers glowed a soft green 11pm. Sighing softly, she realized that she wasn't going to get much sleep. Despite that fact, she smiled happily with how things had turned out. Maybe her being sent here was worth it. It really was a nice place. 'I guess if this is what's best for me, I can deal with it. Thanks Uncle J.' Erin thought. With a long stretch followed by some wiggling, her body settled and she quickly fell into sleep.
The next morning started much earlier than Erin was really happy with. The alarm clock stared blaring music loudly at 5am. With a start, and a soft smack, she shut it off. Rolling out of bed, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Erin yawned widely as she made her way to the bathroom and took a shower. She was humming softly, finishing the last touches on her eyeliner as she heard a soft knock on her door.
"6:30 already?" She shrugged as she made her way to the door and opened it slowly. She was greeted by a half-awake Duo, and a softly smiling Quatre. "Morning." She said, smiling herself. She looked behind them, taking notice that it was just them. "Where are the others?"
"They're in the car. I was waiting on Duo to finish his hair and told the others to just go ahead." He looked at her, a laugh escaping from him. "You're really going to wear the uniform? You don't have to, you know. You're with us after all. No one will say anything."
"Yeah." Duo chirped. "Don't wear that thing. You're one of us. Besides, I think you look better in your regular clothes."
Erin laughed. "Alright then. Give me a few minutes and I'll change. You two can come in. I'll go change in the bathroom." She walked away from the door, heading to her closet and then dresser as she picked out a red shirt with a rose on it and a pair of black tight-fitting pants. She heard the door close as she started for the bathroom. She wasn't long changing, leaving the uniform folded on the counter.
"Shall we then?" She asked as she entered back into the room. She blushed as she saw them looking her up and down, small blushes of their own gracing their pale cheeks.
"Uh- Yeah. Let's go." They both said, still looking at her.
The three of them quickly made their way toward the front doors, on the way to the car and others that were waiting on them. Erin blushed deeply as every set of eyes watched her as she passed them by in the hallway.
"This is just weird.." She said to Duo, as they reached the doors.
"Don't worry. You'll get used to it. You're very beautiful, Erin. And as long as you're with us, they will watch you." Quatre said to her quietly. She simply nodded.
Rashid opened the door for them as they reached the car, each of them sliding in, then shut the door with a soft thud. She waved at Trowa, Wufei, and Heero in turn. There was no response, only more of them watching her closely, looking at her outfit and taking it in. She moved a bit in her seat, slightly at unease.
"Do they ever talk or anything?" She asked the other two.
"Very rarely. Trowa hardly ever says a word. He's always been the silent type. Wufei talks sometimes, but only if he has something to add, or when he's arguing with Duo. Heero-... He... Well, Heero doesn't speak much either. As with everything else, with time, you'll get used to it. It is a bit odd for them all to be watching you so intently though. Normally they ignore everyone." Quatre shrugs a bit.
Duo grinned at her, laying his head on her shoulder. He yawned once as his eyes fluttered a bit. "It's too early to think about all that stuff." She blinked at him, raising a hand to his hair and stroking it lightly, a small smile on her face.
"Yeah. I'll get used to it soon enough, so why worry." She chuckled as she heard Duo purring ever-so as she petted him.
The remainder of the ride was spent in relative silence. Duo fell asleep leaning against her shoulder, snoring softly. As she closed her eyes and forgot where she was, she lost herself in a softly hummed tune. No one else made a sound.
Soon the vehicle stopped, and she had to wake Duo up so they could go eat. They didn't dawdle too long, given that classes started at 8am, but it was more to do with Duo having agitated Wufei so badly that he started chasing Duo around the restaurant.
"I can't believe you two." Erin stated, slightly aggravated as they walked to their first period classroom. "I mean really. In a restaurant? That early in the morning? I should have smacked you both."
She heard Wufei snort once. "I'd have liked to see you try."
"Don't tempt me." She replied, glaring at him half-heartedly. "I'm not afraid of you."
"You should be." He said, "We're military trained."
"My Uncle J trained me in all sorts of offensive and defensive military based fighting tactics. I also know an array of mixed martial arts, and I've had extensive training with a variety of weaponry. The majority of which where bladed." She gave him a cool stare and a half smile as she watched his eyes widen. "My uncle wanted to make sure that I could handle any situation once I was on my own out in the world. It helps that I happen to enjoy learning new things."
"So what else do you enjoy?" Duo asked curiously.
"My top favorites happen to be computer related. I helped my uncle out a lot with coding computers and hacking other systems. I got really good at it. He told me one time that I might eventually be as good as the top soldier he had trained." She shrugged, missing the look that Heero gave everyone else. "I also love Manga and Anime. I have a small fascination with animals. And though I would never personally own a garden, I do find myself drawn to them. All the friends back at my schools would probably tell you that my biggest interest is helping others, but I've really only done that for good friends and the occasional person down on their luck."
She looked around at the five gathered about her, giving them a quizzical look as she saw that they were all slightly wide-eyed.
"What?" She asked. "Did I say something that was offending? Or weird? Or rude? Why are you all looking at me like that?"
In turn they all shook their heads, Duo being, as usual, the first to return to normal.
"Well, actually you just listed off at least one interest that each one of us has." Duo said, clearing his throat. "Quat helps people all the time and loves gardens. Wufei's all about training in martial arts and weapons mastery. Trowa's an animal lover. Heero's a computer genius. And I'm all about Manga and Anime."
"It's a lot to take in at once. To know that you have common interests with us. Those common interests are what we enjoy doing most." Quatre smiled a bit at her. "At least this shows that we will all get along with you very well. For there is one thing you can do with each of us, should you choose, that doesn't involve the rest of the group, should they not feel up to doing something. It'll be nice to have someone that I can do my favorite thing with, and they'll understand how I feel."
"Yeah! This is gonna be awesome!" Duo practically yelled.
"Maybe we can train together. If you don't mind. I'd like to see what you're capable of." Wufei said, hiding a smile as he turned away from her for a moment.
"I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what I can do." She smirked.
Trowa simply nodded his head as she looked at him, a silent understanding between the two.
Heero... Acted like he heard none of it.
"We'll get used to it." Erin said with a bright smile, her eyes a deep blue, as she saw four nods of agreement and the back of Heero's head as he walked into the classroom.
The rest of them followed close behind and Erin's first day at her newest school officially began.
