Act Two: Scene One

Ah, Ok... So I did decide to post another chapter. Even though it's the next day... ^_^ I'm kind of surprised to see how many people have looked at my story, and I'm really happy because of that. 869 so far. I know that isn't a lot compared to some, but... hey, I'm new at this and I love what I get. And what I do get, I love. Also, this plot or theme in this chapter, to me, is not entirely original... it's actually kind of cliche` or however you spell it.... Anyway, I know that this is wasted space and I'm just going to try and stop as soon as I can... Which is now!

Ri: Thanks. I thought it was cute too. There might be some smut in this next chapter, but it might be a little while until I get to it... so far I'm trying to put some angst in... It's harder than I thought, trying to make a story WAFF and Angsty at the same time, but it sure as hell is fun to try.

Disclaimer: I do not own FMA... I wish I did though, but it rightfully belongs to Hiromu Arakawa. I love You Arakawa! ^_^

As life becomes shorter, the Darkness seems to grow. And growing, it starts to consume your very soul, until there is nothing left but your empty shell.

"Your dismissed." Was all Roy said as he turned to the paperwork littered across his desk. "Whatever, bastard." Ed said, trying to keep up the act and walked out. Everything was routine now, the work, the missions, the people around him, even the sex. And he felt numb, and not for the first time. The people around him were a slight distraction from the cold he felt every time he was tossed aside by Roy. But every time he was left alone again, it would come back, stronger than the last time.

"Hey, Ed!" Hughes called out as he saw the blond walking down the hall. "Back from the trip already?"

"Hey, Hughes." The older mad smiled and before he knew it, whipped out pictures of his daughter. "Look, I got some new pictures, isn't she cute?" He then went on to ramble about her for another ten minutes before Ed hurriedly said, "Uh... Al's expecting me, I better not keep him waiting any longer." He then shot past the overly excited father and headed for his dorm.

Walking through the door he called out, "Al, ya there?" He was met by loud clinking and banging of metal. One of the bedroom doors opened and he saw Al walking out.

"Brother!" He called out enthusiastically. "Hey Al, you OK while I was gone?" The armour nodded happily and said, "Yeah, Luitenant Haykeye kept me company." Yawning Ed nodded, "That's good, I'm heading off to bed, wake me up later, k?" Al only nodded, knowing something was wrong with his brother, but he knew better than to ask.

Ed woke up later, only to see that everything was still dark. Getting up, he walked over to the window and stared out of it. Everything was silent, and absolutely still. Sighing he walked back over to his bed and grabbed the coat he had thrown off before he had gone to sleep, pulling it back on. A long walk seemed like a good idea, maybe then he could sort some things out before going to the library and reading for awhile, though he had probably read all there was worth reading there.

Walking in the hallways at night was a lot different than walking around in the day. Everything seemed as though it was sleeping, and empty. Like him. He shook his head. He was so dumb if he was going to get all wimpy like that, but the truth was... that was the truth. That's how he felt. At first, he thought the thing with Roy was helping him, bit by bit. But in reality, it was tearing him apart, little by little. It took him awhile to notice that small fact. It wasn't until a month ago that he really felt the hurt full force, when he saw, or rather heard Roy with another women and the morning after was that much worse. He had talked to Roy about it and the older man had only told him that what he does when they're not together, is his business, and his alone.

Ed thought he could accept that fact, but he couldn't, and that's what got him most. This whole relationship was just based on sex, there was no love involved... so then why did he feel like this, why did he feel like he...

"Wha' are yeh doin ou' so late, eh kid?" He was yanked from his thoughts and looking up, he was met face to face with a stranger, an ugly old, drunken one at that.
"None of yer damn business ya old geezer." He retorted.

"Is tha' any way ta speak to yer elders, ya little twerp." Ed's eye twitched at the little comment but he kept himself in check and tried to walk past the man saying, "Go bother someone else you Ole' pervert." The man didn't seem to like his attitude and grabbed onto Ed's right wrist, "Now, now, weh can't 'ave tha', now can weh?" Ed rolled his eyes, all too used to having people underestimate him.

"It's only fair that I give you a warning before I kick your ass." Ed warned. The man just snorted before he tried to yank Ed in front of him, but the blond would have none of that. He grabbed the old man by his forearm and pulled hard, making the man lose his balance, but only for a moment. And that moment was all Ed needed and he transmuted his arm into a blade, whirling around so he had it up against the geezers neck, "Why don't you go back home or bother someone else. I'm not in the best of moods right now, old man." The drunk looked frightened and Ed could only feel a little smug about that, but soon he tired of it and pulled away, giving the man room to run. And run he did.

For the first time, Ed looked at his surroundings and realised he had wondered away from the dorms and ended up in town. Which was odd. He must have been so lost in thought he hadn't noticed. He kept walking along the sidewalk, seeing no point in turning back when there was really no reason to. He heard a noise coming from up ahead and frowned, who the hell would be out at this time of night... what time was it anyway? Thinking back to the drunk, the only answer he came up with was that it was 'happy hour'.

The sounds ahead proved to be two people in an alley making out, or probably doing more. Ed decided to ignore them but the voice emitted from one of those people made him freeze in his spot.

"If you don't stop doing that, I might have to take you right here..."

"Well, if you must, hehehe, Colonel, then take me."

It was obvious they were both drunk, but it was also obvious that they both knew what they were doing. Ed felt ill to his stomach, he always did when Roy was with another women. He walked past the alley as fast as possible, not wanting Roy to see him, and not wanting to see Roy.

The small walk from one building to the next seemed like the hardest Ed had ever had to experience, and he didn't know why. He didn't know why he felt like this whenever Roy did that, he never knew anything when it came to the older alchemist. And he wasn't sure he wanted to know, because the truth might hurt more than living a lie ever would.

Keeping his eyes focused on the sidewalk ahead of him he tried to get as far away from the voices, the sounds. Tears stung at his eyes, but they wouldn't justify what he felt right now, and he angrily wiped them away with the back of his sleeve. In all of his jumbled thoughts, he hadn't seen that the side walk had ended and he fell over and into the street. He laid there breathing hard for no reason and he just stared at the empty street. There was no real reason to get up, no real reason to move from where he was laying.

After a few minutes, he managed to at least heave himself up and onto the curb, burying his head in his hands. "This is so not my day..." He mumbled, the beginnings of a headache forming. "Ugh..."

When he looked back up, he saw everything seemed to have gotten darker. Looking over he saw the street light had went out. "Great." He said sarcastically to himself, "Now I'm sitting in the dark brooding to myself." He laughed when a particular thought popped up in his head, the dark reminded him of Roy. And with that thought it lead to a string of others, and before long, it lead to the most recent of them all. Roy and THAT women.

"No use thinking about it now." He said to himself, getting up and turning around. He froze when he saw a certain someone emerging from the alleyway, fixing his shirt as well as buttoning up his pants. He instantly turned the other way and prayed to the non-existent god that he didn't see him... and he guessed they didn't hear him as Roy spoke, "What are you doing out so late, Full metal?"

Ed froze and he laughed nervously, "Heh, well... about that..." He looked around evasively, trying to come up with something, and finally he settled on the truth, or some of it. "I just couldn't sleep and I decided to take a walk..."

"At two in the morning?" Roy said dryly, taking out a cigarette and lighting it.

"It's not like I knew the time, bastard." Ed retorted, throwing in the word bastard in for show.

"Hn." Was all Roy said in reply as he walked towards the smaller blond, and once there, he towered above him, belittling him in a way only he could.

"Is there something wrong, Edward?" Ed frowned when Roy used his full name, the only time he said it was when he was teasing him.

"No." Silence followed and before he knew it, Roy had his arms pinned to his sides and his lips were crushed against his. Once he pulled away, the blond could only scream out, "What the hell?!"

Roy just smirked and leaned in again to kiss him but the Ed turned his head to the side, not wanting to have his kiss him with lips that were undoubtedly on another women only moments before. But it seemed the only man would have none of it and instead of demanding an explanation for his actions, he forcefully pulled Ed to him and kissed him, walking foreword with the blond clutched tightly in his arms until Ed was back up against a wall.

"Stop it, Roy." Ed tried to push the older man off of him, not wanting this, not after he did THAT. "What's the matter? Afraid of a little public sex?"

Taking in a deep breath, Ed was about to tell him off but stopped, when he smelled the strong aroma of alcohol. "You're drunk." Roy rolled his eyes and moved his hands to unbutton Ed's pants, ignoring his comment.

"Nn, Roy, get off." Ed tried to remove the alchemist hands from his pants but failed, as Roy gripped him tightly, making him loose his concentration for a moment. "Ah, Roy... Please..."

Smirking the older man leaned over and asked, "Please, what?" Ed gasped and bucked his hips into Roy's hand, unable to stop himself, "P-please... s-top." Not expecting that answer Roy frowned and gave a forceful stroke, causing the blond to whimper.

"No."

"What's wrong, Ed? My touch not doing it anymore?" Roy spat into his ear, gripping him tightly. "Perhaps you want, something else?" Ed could feel Roy smirk against him and before he knew what was happening, Roy let go of him, completely. He dropped to the ground with a painfully and rubbed his bottom, when he looked back up, he saw Roy walking away, his cigarette back in his hand.

Ed was left on the cold sidewalk, confused and still painfully erect as he watched Roy disappear. He had no idea what had just happened. After a few minutes of dumbly staring at the spot in where Roy had been, he got a hold of himself and zipped back up his pants. Taking a deep breath he stuffed his hands into his coat pockets. This was going to be a long walk back.

Ugh, I know... that was really bad. I least I thought it was. I was actually going to have them do a little more, but then I got this weird little idea in my head. Your just going to have to wait and find out what it is in the next chapter. So sorry this was short, I'm trying to make all these chapters as long as I can, and I think some of the credit due for them being even this long is what I say or, er, write in the beginnings and ends. Well, until I eventually get out the next chapter...
