Vegeta jumped into the stream in front of him and landed on his feet, barely dodging the attacker. He quickly pulled out his knife and faced his foe. However, he stood in surprise while the cub snarled at him, then he laughed. “Well, well what do we have here? A cub? Surely I haven’t slaughtered every one of your kind that they would send a cub to take me on.” All he got was a growl in response. The prince grinned and put his knife away. “You must be acting on your own. Cubs appear to be dumb enough to fight me.” That urged the werewolf to attack as he rushed forward and snapped his jaws at air. He looked around for the half breed and heard a swishing sound a few feet next to him and turned in that direction.
The prince was still grinning as the cub snarled at him. “You’re slow. Looks to me like you have no clue what you’re doing.” Vegeta scoffed. “Are you sure you didn’t lose your way? I’m sure that’s not the case since I know ‘dogs’ have a good sense of direction.” He smirked when that earned him another growl and another attempt at attacking. The prince dodged easily once again while the cub took in his surroundings, trying to find him. “You know, I have no interest in fighting a cub. Unless, said cub had skills, which it doesn’t.” The cub turned his attention to him once again and slowly circled around the half breed prince, trying to intimidate him. Vegeta crossed his arms as he watched the cub trying to come up with another way of attack.
However, his amusement was short lived once he noticed the collar the cub was wearing. His smirk melted into shock, then to a malicious smirk. “Well, looks like I’m not dealing with just any cub. You’re the youngest prince of the beasts, are you not?” The cub stopped his circling and eyed the prince. Vegeta laughed. “It must be my lucky day! You’ll be my new prisoner.” He said with dark intent as he pulled out his silver chain.
Kakarot eyed the chain and growled at the half breed. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to attack him. Considering that the cub had no fighting experience and his hunting experience might as well be the same. He should’ve listened to his brother and went home, but the thought of killing the prince would’ve boosted his pride for his brother, his father, and for himself. However, since he can’t even harm a deer, how was he supposed to defeat the half breed prince; the one who has been killing off his kind for the past few years? Kakarot took a step back when Vegeta advanced towards him. However, he tried not to let the prince intimidate him as he snarled in return and stood his ground.
Vegeta smirked. “Having second thoughts, cub? Too bad, and here I had plans already made for you.” He quickly dashed to the side and leaped into the air. Kakarot tried following the movement, but it was too fast for him. He looked around when the prince didn’t reappear and he suddenly felt fearful. Not only did he lose his opponent, but he could be anywhere. Deciding to flee, Kakarot swiftly turned to head home, but froze when something wrapped around his neck above his collar. An incredible force pushed him to the ground and the cub whimpered as the stream’s rocks pushed against his jaw and nose. “Not to worry, young one. I’ll take good care of you.” Vegeta said with dark humor as he moved off of the cub and tugged on the chain, urging the cub to move.
Kakarot coughed when he felt the chain tug on his neck and decided to comply with the motion so he may breathe. “That’s a good cub. Now, follow me.”
The cub was again fearful for where he was going and what would happen to him. Deciding not to find out, he pulled back on the chain, wanting to retreat into the woods. Vegeta grabbed a better hold of the chain and yanked. Kakarot yipped as he stumbled forwards, almost landing in the stream again, but managed to catch himself and pulled back again with all his might. Vegeta was actually surprised to see how strong the cub was as it pulled him forward, but didn’t give in as he tugged back. It became a tug of war as both beings tugged on both ends, trying to get one to come with the other. However, the chain wouldn’t have any of it as it gave in and broke. Vegeta flew backwards into a boulder while Kakarot stumbled backwards and quickly turned so he could escape, but didn’t watch where he was going and ran into a tree.
Vegeta hissed at the pain in his backside, but stood and quickly retrieved the cub before he could get away. Kakarot believed he blinded himself. As soon as his nose ran into the trunk of a tree, his vision went black. He staggered around for a bit while Vegeta watched him with some amusement. However, before Kakarot could get his sight back, the half breed came over and punched his lights out. The cub hit the rocky bank below as Vegeta huffed above his prize. “I guess I’ll have to drag you home.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quite some time after the moon set, Vegeta finally made it to his destination. He used the cubs’ legs as leverage to drag him there, but what surprised him, was that the cub didn’t transform into his human form after being knocked out. What also surprised him was that the silver chain didn’t have any effect on the small beast. Were the rumors true? Was this cub the strongest of their kind? The silver having no effect and no loss of transformation, Vegeta believed that they were true. However, he’s having a hard time accepting it. When he reached the main stairs, he dropped the cub with a grunt and rested his hands on his knees for a moment to catch his breath. Damn it all, that cub was heavy. Not to mention it was no easy task dragging him through the woods at night. He was worried that more werewolves would come and look for their prince, but none did. Perhaps they haven’t found out that he has gone missing yet?
Deciding he had enough rest, the prince climbed the stairs and pushed open the doors. He shivered as the interior air brushed over his wet person. “Welcome back, your-” Edward began to greet his prince when he noticed his appearance. “Oh, my. Your majesty, what happened?”
Vegeta coughed. “Just…a little tumble in the stream, that’s all. Go bring my father and the doctors. I have a little present for them.” He smirked as he waited for the servant to do what he said.
The servant nodded numbly, unsure if he wanted to know what the ‘present’ was. “Y-Yes, your highness.”
While he went to that task, Vegeta went back outside to keep an eye on the cub in case he woke up. A few moments later, the king and the doctors emerged from the castle to see the sight of an unconscious werewolf still in its form. They descended the stairs, but kept a distance from the beast. “Vegeta, what’s the meaning of this?” The king asked, unsure if it was dead or alive.
Vegeta turned to his audience and smirked while gesturing to the cub. “Behold, gentlemen; the young prince of beasts.” There were gasps as the doctors quickly surrounded the cub to inspect him closer. “I brought him to be experimented on and I thought he’d be a great pet.” He grinned at his own joke, but his father frowned.
“What were you thinking bringing the strongest of the beasts here! They’ll surely come and retrieve it!” The king exclaimed as he watched the doctors look over the cub.
Vegeta’s grin disappeared. “That’s the point. I want Bardock to come so I can extract my revenge.” The doctors yelped when the cub twitched from their ministrations. Vegeta bent down to check if it was still unconscious and noticed that the cub’s eyes would open every now and then, but was still dazed. “You better hurry up and take him inside. He’ll wake soon.”
One of the doctors nodded and waved towards the entrance, signaling for the servants that were watching to come and help. They were hesitant at first, but a few reluctantly came and did so. Vegeta watched as they gathered around the cub and tried to find a good holding on it. “How come it hasn’t turned back into its human form?” The king couldn’t help but wonder as he too stared at the beast.
The prince shrugged. “I assume it has something to do with the ‘weaknesses turned into strengths’ sort of thing. It’s what makes him more invincible. A defense, if you will.”
The king sneered. “We should kill the beast now. He’s too dangerous to be kept alive.”
Vegeta shook his head. “In order for us to ensure that no such creature like this exists again, we must kill Bardock so he won’t produce another one. Besides, he must stay alive until the bastard comes for him.”
His father looked at him like he already lost it. “Listen to yourself. You’re talking about them like they have a soul. What, did you already bond with the monster?” He gestured an arm towards the cub, still trying to be dragged into the castle.
Vegeta smirked and shrugged. “I don’t know. I thought he was kind of cute.”
The king growled at his son and decided that one of their rare conversations was over. He went to leave, but hesitated when he saw the servants were having trouble with the wolf. “You might as well bring it in yourself! Otherwise, they’ll never get it in!” He spoke infuriately to his son, before going inside.
Vegeta rolled his eyes at the scene before him. They haven’t even made it up the first step. “Alright, stand back. I’ll take him in.” The doctors and servants stood back as they let their prince through.
“That’s a heavy monster. How did you ever manage to bring it this far?” One of the servants asked.
The prince stared at the servant and narrowed his eyes. It took a moment before the servant mouthed an O and refused to look the prince in the eye. Vegeta bent down and picked up the hind legs of the beast once again and dragged it up the stairs and inside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kakarot opened his heavy eyes and fixated them on a brick wall. A yellow glow flickered off of it and some sounds could be heard. Wondering briefly where he was, he became more alert once he remembered what happened in the woods. Did the prince catch him? Or did his brother come and take him home? Needing more answers, the cub lifted his head up and looked around. There were men in white coats standing at a table and conversing. Behind them was the prince that brought him here. He growled at the half breed, who smirked. The doctors jumped at the sound and turned their attention towards him. In their hands were tools of some kind, but they put them down as they advanced towards him. Kakarot stood up on wobbly legs and backed away. However, he couldn’t go far when something on his ankles and neck stopped him. He looked down and saw black chains adorning them and quickly tried to escape from them as he jerked his head from side to side and pulled the ones on his legs.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. You’ll rub all that lovely fur off.” One of the doctors cooed as the others surrounded the cub.
Vegeta scoffed at the doctors. They have always been fascinated by the werewolves. After all, they must be open minded in order to discover new things. However, Vegeta was worried that they were too open minded. They seemed to have a…crude sense about them. He was there to keep the cub under their thumb.
Kakarot’s heart sped up in fear. What were they going to do with him? Surely they knew that his father was coming to rescue him. If they did anything to him, they’d die. Deciding not to let these men in white intimidate him, he growled in warning. It worked as the doctors backed away a little. “Now, now. We’re not going to hurt you. We just want some information from you. Do you mind transforming in your human form so we may talk?”
All they got for their answer was another growl. One of the doctors sighed and went to the table to retrieve a tool. He came back with the black, twisted object and displayed it front of him. “Do you know what this is for? It was made for pulling teeth. However, we came up with a better tool to do the job, but this seems to work better on animals.” The doctor explained casually as Kakarot stared at the object with intense fear. The man even moved the ends of the object, causing the clamps on the top to snap open and closed. Kakarot gulped and tried to back away from the sight of the tool as the doctor spoke again. “So, will you transform for us?” He looked to the cub with a creepy smile.
Kakarot didn’t know what to do. Is this a trick? If he transformed, would they really talk to him or would they just torture him? He didn’t signal an answer as he tried to make a decision. The doctors decided to act and stood aside as the prince advanced towards him. Kakarot whined and tried to back away as the half breed came closer. When he was about to grab him, he half barked half whined at the prince, signaling that he will transform and for him to stay back. Vegeta stood back in surprise at the sound, but didn’t understand it as he was going to attempt another grab, but stopped when he saw the cub shrink in size. The hair seemed to fall off as skin took its place and in less than a minute, the cub turned into a human.
Everyone stood in shock when they saw a pale skinned boy with wild hair, where the giant cub used to be. Kakarot tried to move back, hoping the chains would let him move around more, but the results were the same as before. The doctor that held the tool moved in front of the prince and bent down to look at the boy at eye level. “See? That wasn’t so hard, was it?” Kakarot wanted to growl at the doctor again, but with the half breed standing there, he decided that wasn’t a very good idea and didn’t answer. “Now, can you tell me your name?” The doctor continued in a gentle voice, but to Kakarot, it sounded sinister.
The prince of beasts didn’t know if he should answer, until the doctor gave Vegeta the tool. “Kakarot.” He squeaked. He didn’t like all these strangers around him. What if more than one of them had a tool and were just waiting for the right moment to use it? He’s never been so paranoid or scared in his life. The sheer emotion of it was about to bring him to tears.
The doctor smiled. “Kakarot. How old are you?”
Kakarot flinched when Vegeta moved to his side, but stayed standing. The cub’s breathing came in pants as he watched his enemies slowly move in closer. “I-It’s my sixteenth year.” He sat back as the doctor moved a bit closer, as if wanting to touch him.
“Ah, sixteen. Still a child.” The man shook his head at the number as he eyed the boy’s nude body. Kakarot suddenly felt self-conscious and tried to disappear into the floor. The movement brought the doctor out of his thoughts. “So, I heard that you tried to attack the prince on your own. Can you tell me why?”
Kakarot turned his head a fraction to the side, where the half breed stood, but moved his gaze back to the strange man. “I…I don’t know.”
The doctor narrowed his eyes. “You don’t know?”
Kakarot shook his head. “I mean, wh-why wouldn’t I? Someone has to stop the half breed from killing my kind!” He shouted at the doctor with fear and anger.
Vegeta growled and bent down to grab the collar around the cub’s neck. “What did you call me?!” Suddenly, the prince felt a stinging pain in his hand. “Ahhh!” He quickly let go of the collar once he realized there was a silver peg on it. He changed his gloves because the others had blood from his earlier meal on them and he didn’t want anyone to see that. So, he put on thinner gloves, thinking that he wouldn’t have to deal with much silver since the cub was immune to it. Lucky little beast.
Kakarot couldn’t help but let a small smirk show through at the prince’s pain. The doctor took that opportunity to take hold of the collar, however, more gently than the prince had. “Ah, silver. I hear it doesn’t harm you. Is that true?” The man looked at the collar with curiosity as Kakarot tried to remain calm with the man being so close. The young prince merely nodded as the doctor toyed with the peg, then released him. “How about the craving to eat?”
Kakarot felt the prince tense up next to him, but didn’t look at him. He looked at the doctor in confusion. “Craving?”
The doctor nodded. “Yes. Do you ever get the intense desire to eat anything around you? Whether it be human, relative, or a deer?”
The young prince shook his head shakily. “No. I’ve never heard of it nor felt it.”
Both Vegeta and the doctor froze. “What do you mean?” The doctor asked.
Kakarot thought for a moment. “Well…my father never told me anything about it and the rest of the pack seems stable when it comes to feasting, but…I never get the desire to eat anything, except only when I’m hungry.” He answered simply. The doctor looked up at his prince, who couldn’t look him in the eye as he scowled at the wall. Kakarot looked between the two.
The doctor expressed an interesting look. “I see. So, what are your weaknesses?”
The cub stared at the man for a moment. “None that I know of.”
“Really?” The doctor seemed to smile sinisterly. “Well, we’ll see about that.” He stood and went to the table, the others followed him. “Any strengths that no other werewolf has?” They seemed to be preparing for something.
Vegeta tensed up again as he watched the doctors prepare for their experiment. He wanted to shiver at the memory of his, but held it back. How could his father do this to him? Make him hold down a cub, a boy for crying out loud, just so the lunatics can get the results they wanted. These bastards were the very ones who traumatized him when he was a boy. He looked down at the boy below him, who ignored the doctor’s question and watched the doctors in frightening confusion. Great. Now he was starting to have second thoughts about going along with this. Could he watch and be a part of the same thing that happened to him? Even though he was grateful the fools had another lab rat to experiment on besides him, he wasn’t sure if he liked the idea of another boy being scarred by such actions.
The doctors seemed to be finished with what they were doing as they advanced towards the young prince of beasts with tools in hand. “Well then, I guess we should get started.”
