Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Trunks lay down on his back on the bed, his head propped on his arms. He stared at the ceiling, thinking about what happened tonight. Somehow, something went haywire and he wound up in a whole different dimension. An alternate one. He tried to figure it out, but his head was starting to hurt. The one thing he did know was the wish he had made before that blinding flash. He had wished for a better, happier life. Kami must have heard him. Good one, Kami. Now what?
What was he supposed to do in this new and strange world? He doubted very much if they had the technology to help him repair his time capsule. It seems as if he would be here forever. He would see what this place had to offer.

He smiled. Laina. He liked the sound of her name. It rolled off his tongue easily. It amazed him that she seemed to pick up on his thoughts. He knew that she had heard him chuckle. That it was internal, in his mind, was the thing. Of course, he knew what she was thinking the whole time. He knew that she was attracted to him. He was attracted to her also. She had a good heart. He frowned. She had a lot of pain in there, too. He wanted to hure pee person who put that pain there. He rolled over on his side and stared at the window. The rain was just now slowing down.

Laina was a beautiful woman. He was surprised when he woke up from the crash to see her. She had big, brown eyes and her hair was dark brown, but wavy, long and thick. She was shorter than him, but put together rather nicely. That she was older than he was meant nothing. He had almost laughed when she berated herself for her thoughts about him. But then..when she was caring for his cut, and her body was between his legs..it took all he could not to pull her into his arms. He wanted to. Still did. He could still feel her heat and smell her scent. He was hoping that she would have carried through on that kiss. He had seen i her her mind and her eyes. But he didn’t want to frighten her.

He couldn’t quite understand this instant attraction. He had never felt this way before. He knew instinctively that he and Laina were bound somehow. He sighed. Laina had a lot of pain she needed to work out. There was distrust, too. He wasn’t sure on how he could help her overcome that. He did know though, that he was going to stick by her until she figures it all out. And accept him. He reached over and shut out the light.

An incessant thrumming was vibrating in his brain. Trunks opened one eye and noticed that it was daylight. The sun’s rays were peeking through a gap in the curtain. More awake now, the thrumming had turned into a loud throbbing. Then he remembered what Laina had told him the night before. Must be her son. Trunks rubbed his eyes and sat up. No point in trying to sleep in. He rose from the bed, pulling the t-shirt over his head before venturing out of the room.

The door across the hall was closed, but the noise was definitely coming from within. He looked at Laina’s door and sensed that she was still sleeping. He debated on whether to go in or not. He decided to leave her be for now. His stomach rumbled then, letting him know that his hunger was the priority for the moment.

He walked out of the hallway, through the living room, and into the dining room. He heard voices before he walked in. The voices stopped as soon as he entered and two pairs of brown eyes met him. Laina’s children were sitting at the table eating breakfast. Well, not right now since they saw him. The girl had her spoon halfway to her mouth. The boy, though more man-child, just stared at him, surprise evident in both their expressions. The girl put her spoon back into her bowl and tilted her head, as if trying to figure him out. The young man seemed to get over his surprise and narrowed his eyes suspiciously. Trunks felt his cheeks heating.*How do I explain my presence here?*
“ Who the hell are you? And where did you come from?” growled her son.
Damn. “ I’m a friend of your mother’s. I had an accident last night and she offered me a place to stay for awhile. I’m not from around here.” *If they only knew!*
“ That still doesn’t tell me who you are.”, said the boy.
The girl grabbed her brother’s arm, shaking it. Her brother glanced sideways at her, not taking his eyes fully off of Trunks.
“ What is it, Lily?”
“ Jayce, I’ve seen him before!”, she said excitedly.
“ Where? How?”
“ He looks like that guy in that cartoon you used to watch. Remember? What’s his name again? Oh, yeah! Trunks!”
Jayce looked at Trunks again, really looking this time. “ No way, Lily! Trunks is a cartoon character, not a real person. There’s no way that can be him!”
Trunks could feel his anger starting to simmer. He was getting pretty tired of that cartoon thing. “ I can assure you, I’m as real as you are.” he said in a soft voice.
“ Jayce, I really think that’s him. He looks just like him. Only better.” said Lily.
Jayce glowered at Trunks. “ Really, now? Are you trying to tell me that you’re Trunks Briefon oon of Vegeta? Dude, that’s just sick. Everyone knows that there’s no way that you guys are real. But if you really are Trunks, then prove it.”
Trunks was taken aback. Prove? “ How?”
Jayce leaned back in his chair, smiling evilly. “ I would ask you if you had your sword, but that’s too easy. You seem to like to look like Trunks, and obviously, you must know the show good enough to know everything about Trunks to act like him. Except for one thing that no imitator can do for real.”
Trunks didn’t like where this was going. “ What proof do you need?”
“ Turn super saiyan. I’ll understand if you can’t. Then you can get the fuck out of my house.” Jayce said smugly. Lily gasped at what Jayce said.
“ I don’t want to frighten you.” Trunks warned.
Jayce laughed. “ You won’t scare me. Go ahead. Do it!”
“ Since you asked so nicely, who am I to deny your request?” Trunks said snidely. He smirked at Jayce, then clenched his fists, bringing his arms up to waist level and closed his eyes.
The room became eerily quiet and then the table started to shake, a little bit at first, then more violently. The air seemed to swirl around the room and a soft, golden glow began surrounding Trunks’ body. Trunks let out an anguished yell, head tilted back, his muscles straining. There was a bright flash and then his hair turned blonde, standing out from his head. He looked back at Jayce, with turquoise green eyes.
“ Is this proof enough for you, boy?” Trunks said angrily.
Jayce looked dumbfounded and could only nod shakily. Trunks powered down, his eyes returning to their original blue color and his lavender hair falling back down to his shoulders.
“ You shouldn’t speak like that in front of your sister either.” scolded Trunks.
Lily started laughing. “ That was so cool! You’re awesome Trunks! And don’t worry about the language, though. I’ve heard mom say worse when stuff gets screwed up around here.”
Trunks smiled at the girl. Laina’s daughter was amusing. It was obvious to him that both her children fad hed her in their appearance. Both had brown hair and her good looks. Lily was going to be a heartbreaker. Jayce on the other hand, had so much hostility that his face was distorted in a constant scowl. It seemed to Trunks that this family had suffered much.

There was a noise behind him and he turned to see Laina sleepily stumble into the dining room, yawning and rubbing her eyes. Trunks cn’t n’t help but stare. She was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top. Her hair was sleep mussed. *She looks good. I wish I had woke up next to her.*
“ Hey guys. G’morning.” she said. “ Did you hear-?” she had started to ask until she noticed the mess all over the dining room.
“ Dammit! Guys, I spent an hour cleaning in here yesterday! The least you could do is keep it clean for more than a few hours!” she huffed out.
She noticed Trunks then. At least it seemed that way to him when she started blushing. “ Hi, Trunks.”
“ Good morning, Laina.” He drawled out. Laina blushed hotter. He chuckled. She shot her eyes up to his. He smiled at her. She smiled back, forgetting about the mess she was mad about.
“ Mom?”
Laina continued to stare at him and didn’t notice that Lily was speaking to her.
“ Mom?!” Lily said louder.
Laina shook herself and looked at her daughter. “ What is it, Lily?”
“ We’re sorry about the mess. We’ll clean it up, okay?” Lily left for the kitchen. Trunks couldn’t help but notice the shocked look on Laina’s face.
“ I will help also, seeing as it is my fault that this mess was made.” Trunks said.
Jayce slammed his hands on the table and stood up. He scowled at both Trunks and Laina, then stalked out of the dining room, brushing past Trunks, bumping his shoulder hard enough to push Trunks back, if only a couple of inches. A few seconds later they all heard a door slam.
Laina looked sad for a moment, then sighed.
“ That was my son, Jayce.”
“ Yeah, we met.” Trunks wryly replied.
Lily had returned to the dining room. “ Yeah, they did. It was awesome, mom!” Lily chattered while she cleared off the table.
“ Jayce was mad, too. He told Trunks that he didn’t believe it was really him, and told him to prove it or get the f out. Then Trunks turned super saiyan. It was so cool.”
Laina looked back at Trunks. He shrugged and grinned sheepishly while he put a hand to the back of his head. “ Well, he did ask.” he said. Then he went and started helping Lily.
Laina shook her head and went into the kitchen. “ Coffee.” she moaned.
