Part V: The Ultimatum
Juunanagou quietly opened the front door of the extravagant home that he and his sister were residing. He stepped in and shut the door, making sure that there was no audible 'click' as the door closed tightly behind him. He inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly, the uneasy feeling in his stomach escaping with his breath. He felt better already. He wanted to take a shower, the dirt and grass was still clinging all over his body and in his hair. He ascended the stairs making sure that his boots made no audible noise on the stairs; even in his own home he sometimes felt like a prisoner awaiting the wrath of a lurking evil.
"Juunanagou, where have you been?" He stopped in his tracks on the fifth stair and turned around to meet her gaze. "I've been waiting for you for two hours. You promised me that we'd go out tonight." Her lower lip extended in an obnoxious pout, her arms were crossed over her chest, and her foot tapped on the hardwood floor in an annoyingly fast rhythm.
Juunanagou tilted his head much in the manner a dog does when it is confused. "I. . . Oh shit, what day is it?"
"Thursday. We always go out on Thursday, as our routine, dear brother." She narrowed her eyes and glared up at her roughed up twin.
Juunanagou paused and frantically thought out his excuses. When he felt he had a good one, he spoke, "I was on the way home until the two nuisances crossed my path. You understand, don't you Juuhachigou, that I had to deal with them?" Placing his hand on the polished banister, Juunanagou descended the stairs to stand with his sister.
"Well, I suppose so," she slurred, eyeing him suspiciously, "Except, Juu-kun, that you look absolutely horrid. Don't tell me that you actually broke a sweat on the pests?"
He worried his lower lip, much like Gohan had done earlier, "It took a little longer than I initially perceived." A facade quickly covered his exposed persona; he receded behind the mask and became the stoic cold figure he usually was. He couldn't, under any circumstances, allow Juuhachigou to know what had really occurred.
"I'm just glad you're all right, dear brother." An innocent smile crossed her serene features as she leaned in to embrace Juunanagou, wrapping both of her strong arms around his neck. Surprised by her openness, he wrapped one arm around her lower back and allowed a relieved sigh to escape his lips. This almost feels normal, he thought.
"I know what you've been doing, brother." She whispered into his ear. He tensed visibly and a breath caught in his throat; his eyes widened and his body paralyzed. "And let me tell you that I don't like it. In fact, it disgusts me that you would even think of screwing around with him." Her words were bittersweet; the tone was pleasant and cordial, but the meaning behind her words was tearing down Juunana's facade and he suddenly felt very venerable. Juuhachigou tightened her grip around her brother's neck, holding him securely to her body; he was unable to move and breathing was becoming difficult.
"I don't care who you get with, but what you've been doing is absolutely appalling and completely disgraceful. And I am most upset that you missed our Thursday because of him." She pulled away and looked at Juunana, her smile transforming into a wicked mask. "You smell like you've been fucking, go take a shower." She gently kissed him on the cheek, released the embrace, and walked out the front door, humming to herself.
Juunanagou fell to his knees on the floor clutching his throat and attempted to breathe normally again.
After his shower and a clean change of clothes, Juunanagou met his sister outside on the porch. She was waiting in one of the chairs, gazing dreamily at the crescent moon. Juunana strode on the porch, closing the front door behind him, and stood by the railing; he suddenly found the grass very interesting.
Juunana was still visibly shaken by her advance on him earlier, but he played it off elegantly, explaining to her why he was fucking Gohan's brains out.
Juuhachigou got out of her chair and stood next to her brother; he tensed again.
"Juunanagou, I am going to be very frank with you. You screwing around with the enemy are going to get us both killed in the end. You know it, and I know it. I will not have our fate resting in your hands, dear brother. Let us not forget how simply irrational you can be sometimes." Juunanagou began to protest but could not find the words. Besides, pissing her off now, even more than she already was, would only increase her wrath. "Damn it, Juunanagou! What you're doing is disgusting! I won't have it! Next time you 'meet up' with Gohan you had better kill him. Because if you don't kill him, then I will. Do you understand me?"
"Yes." He answered simply.
"Good. Then let's go." And as if nothing had happened, Juuhachigou slipped her arm around her brother's and they made their way to the town below.
* * *
Though the twins were created in a lab by a madman bent on destroying Son Gokou, one would assume that they were both rather similar. But then one would be the fool. Juunanagou and Juuhachigou were worlds apart when it came to personality, likes, and dislikes. The two were immensely varied when it came down to fighting style and passions. In fact, the two were much like oil and water.
Juunanagou was created first.
Dr. Gero found the boy when he was only sixteen years old, and began training him as a lab assistant, as the boy showed tremendous progress and an enormous interest in technology and robotics. Dr. Gero and the young man soon became quick friends; however, years later, when the boy was not able to repay a loan that Dr. Gero had lent him, that was the end. For the insane doctor, reimbursement was in the form of an untainted human body. All of the boy's potential was erased, the memories of his family and friends were excised from his mind, and all that was left was a cold emotionless body made of metal and flesh. With this new body, a new passion was programmed into the cybernetic computer-like brain of the cyborg. He no longer had any of the positive emotions like love, compassion, or kindness. Instead, all that remained was anger, revenge, and cynicism. The boy was programmed to enjoy destruction and merciless killing with weapons or bare hands. The boy was no longer his former self.
When he was activated for the first time, the boy had a new name: Juunanagou. With this new name came new responsibilities: Kill Son Gokou. You are impulsive-- you do and then ask questions later. After Son Gokou is dead, the main objective of the game is to have fun. Have fun with the destruction, have fun with the killing, as long as the Red Ribbon Army prevails!
But unfortunately for Dr. Gero, the Red Ribbon Army did not prevail. However, the objective to kill Son Gokou was a success. But now the cyborg only lived for reckless fun, murder, and destruction; for before the good doctor had passed, he failed to program Juunanagou to cease the destruction and deactivate once the objective had been completed.
For Juunanagou, the longer he was activated, the more vague fragments of emotions returned to him. At times he had strange notions of peace or boredom. And on very rare occasion, he felt a strange warm sensation within him when he was with Son Gohan. The young saiya-jin boy returned to him something that he had lost, and yet he could not firmly grasp it.
It was because of these strange incomplete emotions that he feared Juuhachigou at times. She couldn't feel how Juunanagou felt. All Juuhachigou was capable of was vanity, selfishness, and the vast urge to shop. And, of course, at times Juuhachigou was violent, cruel, and determined to finish the task at hand at any means possible.
When the good Doctor created Juuhachigou, he was careful not to repeat any past glitches he made when creating Juunanagou. He programmed Juuhachigou to be incapable of overriding her programming and regaining any past memory or emotion of her human life. Dr. Gero was successful in this aspect: He had created a perfect cold-hearted killing machine intent on finding the best pair of shoes to match her outfit.
Juuhachigou was opposite of Juunanagou in the aspect that the longer she was activated, the more mechanical and machine-like she became. Fragments of emotion never came to her. The fact that Juuhachigou became less human every waking moment only made her superior to Juunanagou, and that frightened him greatly. He was no longer the superior being. Juuhachigou was, and she certainly would not hesitate to kill him if he got in the way.
And it was because of this fact that Juunanagou would always fulfill her every whim.
To be continued. . .
Author’s Notes: Sorry it took so long to get this chapter out faithful readers!
Isn’t Juuhachigou a bitch? I never did like her much, especially at the end of DBZ when she married Kuririn. What was she thinking? *shakes head in disgust* But whatever, that is why I like alternate timeline stories so much better! There is just so much room to change and rearrange plots that you don’t like!
I am very pleased to see the number of reviews that you all have given me, especially those of new readers! Thank you so much for your great feedback. Everytime I check my profile I’m so delighted to see a shiny new review waiting for me! Please keep them coming, it keeps my slash-writing-juices flowing!
See you next time!
