Warnings: The Gundam boys doing what they do best, Preventers, swearing, death and hints of violence… you’ll see and lots and lots of guns!
Notes: Much awaited(?) fifth chapter. A bit of changing pace here. This is where I’m really evil to you all as this chapter was original going to be one it turned into three 0.o! So the Duo and Heero thing… well lets just say Duo can’t talk at the moment ^_^!
Thanks: To my little demons (my muses!) who would not let this story
lie.
Summary: Duo is living with Quatre and Trowa. But what no-one
realises is why. And what happens when they find out the truth,
especially Heero.
Enjoy
Chapter 5 – Mission Accepted
The meeting had been short and to the point as always. Heero had given a brief outline of what was going to happen, while Wufei had shown some blue prints of the building. It was a straightforward enough job, protect the leaders and representatives. Even after the wars, there were still people who tried to fight against peace. They were taking no chances. Une had wanted the best for this mission and Heero had been allowed to call in Trowa and Duo as extra backup. Duo had been silently flattered that Heero had considered him for the job. Throughout the whole time Quatre only glanced at Duo. It gave the braided one enough to know that Quatre did remember their meeting and his secret was indeed safe.
They had all changed clothes, Heero and Wufei into their Preventers uniforms, Quatre into his business suit, and Trowa and Duo into black combats and tank tops. They weren’t allowed weapons until in the building itself. They had travelled in the Jeep, to the Florida State Capitol building (1), where the conference was being held. Inside, Quatre had waved the other four goodbye and gone off to a waiting room. The others had gone to another waiting room, where the team of Preventers and Lady Une were waiting for them.
“Good morning gentlemen.” She gave them a slight smile. All four nodded back to her, knowing she would not appreciate anything more. Heero and Wufei sat down at the large table. Both Duo and Trowa stood in the corner, watching everything but not interfering either. “The task at hand is clear enough. This is an ‘observe and protect’ mission of the greatest importance. You are to guard the areas that have been assigned to you. Check in every five minutes. No one should be left alone. Make sure you check all areas are clear. If anyone does manage to get in, do not hesitate. Preferably arrest them, if they resist, bring them down. Maxwell, Barton, stay behind. The rest of you, good luck.” They all stood and left, Heero paused at the door, glanced at Duo, and then followed the others. “Sit down gentlemen.” Duo looked across to the tall man beside him then sat opposite Une, Trowa sat beside him. “I know you two are not part of the Preventers, I am sad to say. However, I do know that you are two of the best, which is why I let Agent Yuy contact you. We need all the help we can get. We have had some inside information that this conference may be targeted. We’re not taking any chances.” She let the information sink in. She could see concern in both their faces. “I don’t think I need to repeat what I said earlier. But I trust the both of you to work alone. Barton, I need you on the left half of the building, Maxwell the right. I believe you know enough about this sort of thing to work out the best place for you to be positioned yourselves. In the next room, we will provide you with weapons and head sets. Good luck gentlemen.” They both stood and walked to the door. “Oh and one more thing.” Blue and green eyes met hers. “Thank you.” She told them with a smile.
Duo’s eyes lit up as they walked into the next room. The array of weaponry was rather astonishing. He nearly giggled with glee. He sidled up to the tables, scanning over the various items. The few Preventers guarding the room looked at the two former Gundam pilots cautiously. Finally they began hooking both up with ear pieces and mikes. After taking in everything on offer Duo strapped a knife to his arm, one in each boot and grabbed a belt which housed two more. He slipped on a black vest jacket which housed spare ammunition, a couple of tear gas grenades and an extra knife… just in case. He added two Glock pistols to his belt, strapped a mini Uzi to his thigh and picked up a Walther PPK. Trowa looked at him, having noticed the antique.
“I like having something with a bit of age. They’re reliable, these.” He looked at the old gun with a tender smile. “You never know when a basic gun is all you need.” Trowa gave Duo a slightly surprised look.
“Duo, you have more gadgets than a Swiss army knife.”
“Better to be prepared.” The braided one replied with a grin, noticing that Trowa was not adorned that differently from him. Duo gave a short cough which sounded suspiciously like ‘hypocrite’.
“Let’s hope we don’t have to use them.” The smile that graced Duo’s mouth quickly fell. He gave a quick nod to the former Heavy arms pilot.
“Well if we do they will rue the day they decided to mess with five former Gundam pilots.” Trowa merely nodded at this statement.

As they walked out of the door, Duo was surprised to find Heero waiting for them. His face was impassive as always. He walked up to Duo and Trowa moved ahead slightly, giving them space, as if knowing what was going to happen. Duo watched the clown’s retreat with suspicion. ‘Traitor’ he thought with a smile. Heero’s voice made Duo look back at the Japanese man.
“I know I don’t need to tell you, but keep a sharp eye. Watch the other Preventers. Remember they’re not Gundam pilots. You’ll be quicker and better than any of them.” Duo could feel the beginnings of a blush in his cheeks, which heightened as Heero took his hand. “And be careful.” The former Wing Zero pilot gave Duo what passed as a smile before leaning in and giving him a fleeting kiss on the cheek. Turning away he gave another brief smile and a wave to Trowa then headed to the main conference hall. Duo watched him go. Had Heero actually done that? He shook his head to clear it, before catching up with Trowa and find their respective locations, instantly forgetting to grill the man.

It had been quiet. The meeting was in full swing. Nothing had happened. The Preventers had become bored and restless and with it careless. The first time Heero Yuy realised something was wrong was when one team failed to report. He frowned as he listened to the transmission,
“Group five report, over…. Report in group five. Over.” Only static was returned.
“Check it out.” Heero growled into his mike. He indicated for the group of Preventers in the meeting to guard the entrances.

Quatre, who was bored out of his mind as one particular delegate droned on, tapped his fingers restlessly on his desk. He was quick to notice Heero’s hand signals. Something was wrong. The blond perked up a bit, on the look out for anything suspicious. He noticed one of the representatives, continually glancing at his watch and looking a little uncomfortable. Quatre’s eyes met the man’s and he was quick to turn away. That was enough for the Arabian. He continued to watch.

Duo heard the lack of report himself.
“Shit! That’s my section.” He huffed to himself. “I’m looking into it, Yuy. Over.” He said down the mike, keeping it official. He travelled the corridor to where group five should have been on guard. “That is a negative on group five. I repeat a negative. Searching area. Over.” He looked into the offices that were along the corridors. One after another came up empty. Duo approached the last door.
“And what lies behind door number five.” He heard Trowa snigger. He opened the door. “Oh shit! It’s always the last fucking door!”
“Language, Maxwell!” Wufei shouted.
“Sorry, Chang. But we have a situation here. Four agents down. Over.”
“Status.” Heero almost barked back. Duo looked around at the four.
“Do pin cushions count?” Duo replied glancing around at what was left of the team of Preventers. He heard Heero again,
“Shit!” He quickly returned to official. “Agents. Code red. I repeat Code red. Enemy unknown. Breached security. Track them down. Lady Une? Chang?”
“Agent Yuy. Received loud and clear. Doing our best to locate here. Do what you need to do to protect the delegates. Over.” Lady Une’s voice was calm as usual, despite the hint of anger.
“Attempting to locate now. Over” Wufei told him grimly.
“Roger that. Yuy out.” He turned to the other Preventers. “Agents out.” He shouted to the worried faces. He gave quick signals to Quatre, who blinked in understanding. The blond knew he was now in charge. Two Preventers remained behind.

Duo hurried back down the corridor. Searching ahead to see where the intruders might be, or even who they might be. Something in the pit of his stomach warned him to slow. He never ignored such a feeling. As he did so, a shot whizzed past him. If he had continued to run that shot would have hit him. He rolled to the side where a pillar stood proud from the wall, giving him the only possible cover. As he glanced round, another shot whistled past. He managed to catch a glimpse of the infiltrators. This was not going to plan.
(1) I believe this is a library or something like that now. I’m not personally sure. I just needed a big building in Florida that could be used for such a conference. This is what came up. I’m not even entirely certain it’s the right one or anything! But I figured as this fic’s based after the wars there could indeed be a building such as this so that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it!
So what does everyone think? Please review. To everyone who has… damn I love you guys. Hugs and cookies for everyone ^_^!
